My main is a thief but only level 14
As a thief what is the advantage of being a jeweler or tailor?

Isn't something like leatherwork or weapon smith better, I have leather and huntsman?

Hey guys. Just started playing a couple of days ago, trying the game on my brother's account. I posted this in my laptop brand's subforum, but thought it would be more appropriate here. So right now I have two sets of overclock profiles, my safe oc for basic gaming and going off-battery, and my more aggressive Dark Souls gaming overclock. I'm having some weird results with my overclocks (HP dv6 with A8-3500m).

My safe oc has:
b0: 2.4ghz @ 1.3125 (lowered from 1.3375 from stock)
p0: 2.0ghz @ 1.0375

My Dark Souls overclock has:
b0: 2.8ghz @ 1.2500
p0: 2.8ghz @ 1.2500

So the weird thing is that GW2 runs smoother on my safe oc than on my Dark Souls one. Could it be that the voltages play a larger role?

Deleted the one in HP since you can't crosspost. Overclocking is always a tricky thing, some games will like a particular overclock, others won't. I'd say that GW2 isn't entirely stable with your Dark Souls OC, but it is with the other.

ele is nice in terms of versatility that's for sure.

Nah, i just played the game to death lately and crafting really makes you level faster.

Re-read the post as you missed most of the point.

I made a specific point to separate someone who plays a hunter from a huntard even in the quote you used. Thus, due to your own lack of reading skills you pretty much proved my points.

My dislike of WoW is fueled by having played from release to shortly after the first expansion. WoW was a mediocre game to begin with and reached the end of its dev cycle after vanilla. Since then, it has catered to the lowest common denominator and created a festering sewer of a community.

Do all WoW players redefine awful? No. However, the vast majority do. Of those that don't redefine awful, you still have the people who have only WoW as their MMO experience and still don't understand why /faceroll /faceroll /rollneedoneverything isn't suitable for any other MMO. Thus you have huntards and WoWites..

Even playing GW2, the WoWites are obvious... they are usually complaining in shout how "hard" GW2 is... the thing is the GW2 community even tries to help, giving numerous hints and trying to help what they think is someone just new to MMOs. The WoW-ite responds to their attempt to help with hostility and brags about his maxed out WoW toon and how much "better" WoW is...
I was just trying to help those people not waste $60.

There isn't a problem with me disliking WoW and calling a spade a spade. If you don't like it I guess you can do the typical WoWite thing and /cry and ask the WoW devs to nerf me. Neither will do any good.

i have to say that GW2's community, so far, is pretty dang nice. i haven't run into any retards yet. even /map chat is pretty funny/random sometimes.

i haven't joined a guild or done any dungeons/instances yet, so i only expect that aspect of the game to get even better for me.

I've definitely seen a few, we all know how elitist MMO players can get towards newbies sometimes, but yeah overall i haven't seen anything to really make me cringe.

Ascalon Catacombs story mode can be brutal if you're not ready and if you screw up once, it doesn't really forgive, Cadeucus' Manor story mode is a real joke though, only the first boss fight is challenging. I need to do them in explorable mode now and i need to do them again with the NBR guild, so far i've been doing them with my GW1 crew which includes my sis and bro in-law, yeah GW2 is a family thing for me.

MUCH faster. :)

The game intentionally encourages doing a little bit of everything.

I'd like to also point out that you can CHANGE tradeskills. You can only have two active, but you don't lose progress on one that is inactive.

One hint... I'd pick two skills which use differing resources (at least main resources) to have active at any one time.

Another hint... make different things and you get a bonus for making something you haven't before.

Switching crafting professions will cost you money each time and the higher the level, the more it costs, it is something to take into account.

I was having problems logging in last night and later learned about all these hackings that went on?! I thought I had been hacked and my password was reset, but after a half hour I was able to log in again with the same email/pass combo (I quickly changed both to be on the safe side). Freaky @_@

Not having much luck with crafting. Great exp, but I don't have the funds to put into it yet as I need to buy next manual. Kind of sucks that I can't skin for leather working, and basically get my leathers from salvaging. Huntsman is easier as I use a lot of wood, and just run low on drops like totems, blood, claws, etc..

hoping my next toon has better luck. I should be able to fund him better as well.

So one of the things I like about the elementalist is that earth attunement has some pretty sweet damage over time. I basically stack +condition damage and power and pull from range with eruption. They're usually half dead before they get close, at which point an arcane wave basically does them in. If not, I finish them with stoning. If they're ranged mobs, I throw up magnetic shield and let them beat on themselves.

Quite enjoyable.

Crafting is really fun, although tailoring is hard to get the materials imo.

Jewelcrafting seems easiest to get mats.

Part of the fun is finding things and putting them in the discovery window.

The system will tell you how many items are possible and won't even let you put in the wrong things.

There are almost always a combination of three (or more) things which make any object.

Example:
Staff head, staff shaft, blood (or totem, or claw, etc.)

Two of the items are usually structural, one is the "special" item and the othr two slots are usually for more special items or stat direction.

Example:
Staff Head, Staff shaft, blood, heaing dowel, power dowel.

I spend far too much time walking the edges of lands trying to get to the adjacent zone. I'm actually finding it more difficult to get to some zones to level than the zone itself.

Its usually as simple as finding a road that continues off the map :)

Those portals also usually have a waypoint near them, so that is also a good thing to keep an eye on.

finally did a dungeon today. went through AC and it was pretty fun. i was a hardcore raider in Rift and these dungeons are kind of a breath of fresh air to me. they don't feel like such a grind, but neither does it feel like i mowed through it.

Made a new character - Human Thief. I like the play style of the thief more than the Guardian and the Elementalist. I guess this will be my new main.
Probably going to go Sword - Dagger and Dagger - Dagger with Jewelry and Tailoring.

What's different compared to guardian (aside from less flashy skills)? I like my guardian but I feel like at level 40 I should be killing things faster than I am, and be harder to kill than I am...

Mmm, personally, I feel that the Guardian has very less mobility -- I like things that are very mobile. The Guardian's skills are a bit more flashy than the Thieves in my perspective. The Thief, for some reason, also feels a bit more tanky than the Guardian and way stronger than the Guardian. Other than that, I don't know what to say. :)

Can't buy chocolate bars from the vendors anymore or butter, anyone know when they made them into drops? I'm really liking this game, I'm a level 35 Asura Bleed Thief, I am exclusively using Dagger Dagger, but I am gonna start using that and Pistol Pistol or maybe just one Pistol not sure yet but now I just have to find one since I salvaged them before I thought about using them. I'm having a hard time getting off this game though, every time I tell myself that I'm gonna get off but then I see a waypoint then a point of interest then a skill point. Last time a looked at the time and it was 3am then when I looked at it again it was 6am.

I have a Norn Guardian at level 22. I think Guardians are stronger but I also like Thief play style..

I have been playing Guardian with a Sword + Shield/Focus/Torch in the early levels.

The Sword has some nice skills (2 and 3) where you can flash to the target with 2.

Then later on I started playing with Great Sword.. It looks gr8 .. very bulky and skills are also powerful.

Last night I tried the Hammer and that was awesome.. although it looks slow as the Hammer is quite heavy :D .. but very powerful.

Tried WvWvW for the first time lastnight.

It was really fun! Except it seems like its just a huge zergfest, and whoever has the biggest zerg-swarm at that point in time wins the battle. I might like structured PvP more ...

They do get harder, but mostly because the higher level areas aren't very populated with players yet. The lvl 30 and below areas are very condensed atm, so they are probably a little easier until the population stabilizes.

Dungeons are the real challenge.

You can try it right away, with a good team, it should take around 1h if things don't go bad. Yesterday, i did it with a few other guild members and because we screwed up at the Lovers we got delayed a bit. I would plan for 1 hour and a half just in case things don't go as planned. Make sure your team is conscious of aggro because the "regular" mobs are brutal.

I noticed that the play style of the Guardian really depends on the weapons and what type of person you are.

I recently tried Great Sword and 2H Mace, I would knock them back them switch to Great Sword and launch myself at them. But now, I'm using Sword + Focus and Great Sword, where I would start with Sword + Focus on [2>3>5>4] and then alternate to Great Sword for a [2>5>5>3>4] to end it. If it keeps going, I'll just auto attack and repeat the combo. At least I don't die as much anymore.

Well I'm royally cheesed at this.

Got home early today, decided to play some GW2, so turn on the lappy yadayada. Double click GW2.exe, launcher comes up, nothing happens. So I for quit. Re-launch. Samething. So I try it a 3rd time, finally the login screen comes up, login...BUT WAIT a black hole. Hangs as soon as the game launches. Force quit. Turn off AVG/MS Security Essentials. Try again. Same thing.

Create shortcut with -repair, still hangs. Try to uninstall...hangs. Deleted the folder and tried to install again. HANGS!

I'm at my wits end. I have not installed anything on my PC since last night. I don't know is wrong with it :(.

Anyone have this issue?
