This is exactly how i felt, i tried both staff and daggers but the survivability isn't good enough. It wouldn't be so bad if my energy to dodge didn't go so quick.

I like my elementalist and will continue to level it but i think the guardian will become my main.

i've decided...Mesmers are pretty dang annoying in PvP.

how do u expect us to fight like 6 clones and someone that constantly goes invisible? not to mention, those damn clones hurt like heck!

Baka does not have problems going against mesmers in PvP :) Baka simply burns them and do lots of AoEs to the point of them not wanting to get close.

I scraped my Engi and went Ranger, not only am I lvling 2 times faster I find it more enjoyable.

The game is fun that is for sure. Needs some balancing but that will come in time, other then that, at lvl 14 I already have 8g 60s from selling mats and random drops on the Market.

I love how they designed the gameplay of the game. It surely is a lot more entertaing then any other MMO I've played (WoW, GW1, STWOR which I wish didn't die so damn fast).

The NBR guild is empty, no one is ever online and there are only 26 members. Luckily I know someone from playing LoL that plays this so I switched to her server and guild which has more members. There needs to be more GM's on the NBR guild as only 5 people have access to everything.

The only thing I don't understand so far, is the difference between sPVP and WvWvW. How do you play sPVP?????

8Gs 60S? ._.! Baka is jelly on Roken's money making abilities

Then again Baka dies so much and spends so much on repairs

For plain PvP, Press H and go to the PvP Tab. Click to go to the Mists

for sPVP you go to "Hero" window and select the bottom option for PvP. There you will find an option to travel to the Mists..

once there you have to complete the tutorial and then move ahead to the next area which is kind of a PVP lobby where you can get PVP weapons, armor, etc. Also there's a NPC with golden swords over his head who has the PVP browser where in you can find all the PVP matches taking place.

the rest is self explanatory :)

We can only have a combination of 3 illusions (clones/phantasms) out at once. The trick is weaving them so you kill one and another one pops out.

The clones hit like wet noodles... the phantasms hit like a truck.
The phantasm is the one that looks NOTHING like us. All of the illusions can almost take 2 hits with talents.

Killing a Mesmer without their clones is very easy.
I stack gear to actually take 3 hits total when you figure out which one is me.

Oh and baka, please do use all the skills you want... :)
I stack confusion and retaliation. Elementalists kill themselves very very quickly.

Warriors are the Mesmer bane... they hit HARD and die slow.

Still fun though, i usually try to kill an almost dead mob or revive the player before he gets defeated in dungeons. Enemies in dungeons do hit hard and are slow to kill, but it never felt unfair, challenging yeah, but fair.

Were you in the group that did Cadeucus yesterday?

Yup. I got owned by the first boss. Not sure how to dodge his rockets. I got smacked by the door guard cause I got too close. A couple times later on I got mobbed by groups. I'm still very much learning. I guess I just don't get the intricacies of the combat system yet. I know what buttons I press to hurt people, but I haven't yet learned how to maximize my contributions.

Not sure about the first boss' rockets aside from using a hit negating skill at the right time. Timing your dodges isn't easy either, gotta save that energy for when it's really needed.

I tried using magnetic aura to reflect the rockets, but he didnt seem to telegraph the rockets at all, and the cool down on magnetic aura is too long to use it every time. I think a large part of it was just that I was overwhelmed and had no idea what was going on for the first half.

I thought Mists just leads to WvWvW? I'll check it out.

@Baka its easy to make money, just sell all the lumber, skins, plants you harvest and any drops you get that aren't for your profession. I'm not really going to craft until i get to 80. I've never been a "crafter" in any MMO i've played. I couldn't be bothered with farming mats, but in GW2 you get XP for farming so I try to do some as I level and get map completion.

Baka enjoys the elementalist except the part where Baka is downed a lot ._.

Then again Baka's switching around the build and is now stacking up condition damage so Baka can just burn and bleed stuff, get downed and wait for them to burn to death and get a rally :D

    https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/info/news/Update-Notes-September-17th-2012

doesn't appear to be any changes that will effect me other than crafting. I'll have to go to starting lands and stock up on mats and do crafting again.

Wish my story got the nerf. This elite would kill all my party members while I killed the mobs, or the mobs would kill all the party members while I kited the elite then gank me. it was a no win situation for me. lol

also playable on the Mac OS now.

Baka thinks that there will definitely be a huge frame drop during certain fights like the fight against Tequatl, Claw of Jormag, The Shatterer etc as there will be tons to render and over 50 players swarming it usually spamming skills ._.

Other than that, it should be somewhat stable

Right now, in the larger events and WvWvW, pretty much any computer currently available (including desktops) has massive fps drops. We're talking 100fps in normal PvE vs 20-30fps in WvWvW for example on the higher end desktops.

I keep hearing this. Every time I hear someone complain about somethinig similar someone replies with "did you try this?" and they simply learn some mechanics and pass it first shot. Below are some common solutions when someone says "its impossible" or "no win".

-If I had a nickel for every person who didn't even know what the dodge function does, I'd be rich. The storyline assumes you are using it. If you don't use it properly, you will die. Even the heavy armor classes must dodge. Believe it or not, when the big mob charges and tries to step on you, you should dodge out of its way and hit it as it goes by! (this is a true story and had to be explained to someone)

-Standing in red circles = bad. Consider this GW2 spidey-sense. (again this had to be explained to someone)

-Runaway! that's right, charging in mindlessly gets you killed fairly often. Sometimes the best strategy is to run away and space out mobs. It seems the art of the "pull" is lost on many people. The concept of pulling to a location they can't all beat on you is too apparently. Story mode usually has a limited area, but often that makes it fairly easy to find what the devs planned on players using.

-CC: These are your standard control utilities most people conpletely forget about. No they don't last long, yes you are going to require some timing and skill weaving them with dodge.

-Line-of-sight. You must learn to line-of-sight mobs with clever use of dodge. This is mostly self-explanatory.. but sometimes certain things don't work. Example: tents apparently block projectiles while trees do not... /shrug trial-and-error I guess. Important to note: if the projectile was lauched while you weren't dodgeing and werent' behind cover, it still hits you.

Mobs follow the same pathing rules you do. That's right... you know how those stairs make you go up a certain way? When you climb them, the mobs must climb them the same way too. Knocking mobs off the stairway and making them climb back up is an effective (and intended) mechanic. Note the plan is to knock SOME mobs off and thin out their ranks.

Buffs/debuffs: these are short but VERY powerful. Learn and understand them. Some of the most directly useful for story mode buff or debuff run speed. Another buffs dodge recovery... (people often ignore this one, but its amazing)

Mobs sometimes have professions: one guildy didn't understand why that mesmer npc kept owning him. After one explanation of what confusion does and the differences between phantasms and clones, he beat him easily.

Plan to use AoE skills: what I mean by "plan" is make your opponents bunch up. Remember the stairs trick? Find a way to make them all stand in your AoE without getting squished. Remember those CC utilities?

Weapon switch: Use it. This is another completely unused function by most of the people complaining. Drop the AoE and debuff skills from one weapon set and switch to the set you need afterwards. Weave as necessary. (there is a cooldown)

Why did you quote me, edit and select one snippet, and go on a rant that had nothing to do with my post?

Seriously dude. My issue is nothing about skill, I just need more gear. this is the level 80 story line, and not 30..

edit** Was just as I said. I went and got all the 80 greens, re-socket-ed them for strength, then redid with no problems, as well as a couple more before server shut down...and done with self story, all that are left are instance stories....

leveling is so easy in GW2. most likely, most of the guys complaining are the ones that just kept running CM over and over for exp. first of all, CM shouldn't have ever been that easy to begin with, so the nerf is pretty justified.

is the game down? i can't seem to log on.

I edited to shorten... and it seems you did learn what you needed to solve it. It really WAS you which makes your response all the more entertaining. :)

I offered tips for the typical "too hard" people... your problem wasn't on my list because even the most basic MMO players consider proper equipment to be an elementary part of playing an MMO. I didn't think anyone needed help with that. /shrug

did I ask for help? No
Do you look like a tool assuming you are the only one who knows how to play a game. Yes

I'm sure I have been playing MMOs longer than you have as I beta tested Meridian 59 and was a big player in UO and DAoC among others before WOW. I'm 50 years old, and don't appreciate being talked to like I am a 12 year old. Kindly do not quote me and go on your ill advised childish rants.

Please refrain from insulting others, calling someone a tool was unneccesery.

My 0.2 cents on Guild Wars (Since I can't say it any better than these folks, I'm just going to quote them)

"People disliking it doesn't make it a bad game, it's just not for everyone.

Perfect analogy is when a band puts out a new album and changes it's sound and direction. Many fans of the previous material will cry bloody murder that the band has lost it's way, given up on it's fans, etc, etc.

At the same time many older fans will like the change and evolve with the music while the change of direction will also encourage new fans to check it out, and in many cases go back and listen to the older material.

Games of this nature are no different imo. Some will stay here, others will play both, others will move on."

"Personally, I'm not too keen on GW2. Played it for the majority of today, and I have a lot of complaints.

To summarize, it feels like they had us put on blinders and introduced us to a skill system designed for special ed students.

    The combat feels stiff
    Lack of overall skill customization
    Personal story lines feel forced
    Overflow queues
    Event grinds

The only props I can muster to give GW2 is for it's graphics and including the ability to jump, neither of which count for much IMHO. "

The above quotes were taken from a single thread on Guild Wars Guru

Sorry, the post was unclear. (I've gone over six hours without food or water so you'll have to excuse me)

To summarize, the game is not for everyone and has major flaws such as the ones listed. However, these issues may or may not be fixed in the near future. If they are, the game will receive much praise.

For those who can overlook the flaws, go for it.

I have to disagree on certain points. Overflow will fix itself once the population is more evenly spread and Anet also deployed extra hardware.

I actually prefer having less skills, but having every skill count. The system is a drastic change from GW1 though so not necessarily for everyone.

Combat doesn't feel stiff to me, but that's a matter of taste.

Not sure what you mean by event grind.

I somewhat agree with the personal story.

It's funny because there is a whole thread with a poll demonstrating people who've experienced wrist pain after playing Guild Wars 2. Although Arenanet said that keyboard movement would be a necessity, certainly it's a demanding task on the wrists to keep up with combat sometimes. Additionally, combat isn't captivating for me as it is for others. It's also difficult to locate your target your attacking, as someone said " it doesn't help that your targeting circle/highlight is so tiny that it's next to impossible to see which of several identical critters you actually have as your target, even if you're the only one in the area"

Well, then i just misunderstood your definition of stiff. Anyways, i do not experience wrist pain while using the keyboard in GW2 myself or after using it for that matter.

I don't have pains after playing it, but then I'm only playing casually now... maybe people who have 3 lvl 80's would be in pain. I absolutely agree that targeting is more difficult than it should be and too often it isn't really clear who or what you are targeting. Having played GW1 I'll also agree that skill customization leaves a lot to be desired, you pretty much only have 3 flavor skills, the other 5 are determined by your weapon choice... and often your weapon choice is determined by your traits/how you want to build your char. And, those 3 flavor skills become pretty cookie cutter themselves once you determine what traits and weapons you'll use.

I don't understand what you mean by event grinds, there are times when events seem to chain/restart so fast in certain areas that yeah it simply makes sense to stay in the area and do them again, but you can level up just fine without any grinding ever. I've got something like 27% map completion and I'm lv 65, and I know I still have 10+ levels to gain from crafting and the other 5 can come from personal story/random kills. It's not like grinding gives you a tangible benefit ala wow rep grinds, it just gets you to the next level in an easily repeatable but dull way...
