AFAIK that's more likely playing with the TDP levels rather than any multipliers.

Yeh. That just sounds like it's for turbo boost.
-
I have no idea how it works. All I have heard is that it overclocks the CPU and GPU 10% until the battery is down to 30%, then stops the overclocking
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No way to overclock the CPU 10%, sorry, neither base clock or multiplier.
-
Well its no use to raise the TDP either since there is more than enough TDP to allow max turbo boost from the CPU. Notebookcheck just did a GT70 review and they found no throttling from the CPU

I can see how this happened. Someone in MSI purchasing accidentally bought (or purposely to save money) 100,000 200W PSU's when they needed 240W PSU's. They asked engineering if it was OK, and they said no way. This purchasing guy was probably related to the CEO, so instead of firing him, they directed engineering to "make it work". So they made it work and forced marketing to sell it.
-
So yeah, instead of investing in a new ser of PSUs, they made it work with the current 180w PSU. You gotta admit it was a creative way for them to spin the issue hahahaha
I don't mind it, but they should definitely include new PSU offerings soon. -

I just have to post this here. I`m so excited
MSI have done it again. The newest laptops brought many new features to the GT-brand. Cooler Boost 2, with improved cooling. Support for 3 screens, Super Raid 2 with 1500MB/s speed, Newest GTX Nvidia card along with the newest CPU architecture from Intel.
Now MSI is proud to present Ultra HD (UHD) 3K display for the GT60. That is a 2880x1620 display to fully support the powerful hardware GT60 boasts.

Looks like I probably won't be skipping Haswell anymore.
-
Meaker, looks like you'll have to update your order again.
I think that's awesome, but wouldn't you really need SLI to take advantage of that resolution? 680m can be beaten down to 35-40FPS or so at 1080p with current games at ultra settings, Even if 780m is 30% faster, it would still struggle at running over double the pixels.
Clevo better up their game, or MSI will be winning over a lot of new customers. If I were buying a new 15" or 17" this year I would definitely be highly considering MSI. -
Check my response to your post in the MSI thread HT.
Yeah MSI is the best company ever. They are super fast with including the newest tech. So many new features this year, Alienware with IPS is the only one that can compete. This UHD screen on the GT-series is so awesome -
MSI is being incredibly aggressive with their new strategy. They not only have amazing gaming notebooks with top of the line components and good prices, they are attacking the high res "retina" people with their 3K LCD, and then they are also taking a stab at razer with their new GS70 series.
We are about to see some serious competition -
wow, and hear i was wishing for just a 1920 x 1200 screen again...I'm going to have to take a real close look at this new MSI

HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Max overclocked 680m goes passed 9k in gpu scores, mine did with some over volting. Do you mean max overclocked "stock voltage" 680m? lol -
Yes of course I meant on stock voltage.
-
and imagine that the 780m is a little oc with stock volt(8639 gpu) -
Push it to 1000MHz on stock voltage, that difference will increase further. Fire up Extreme benchmarks, further it goes because of the bandwidth difference.
We still haven`t even touched higher voltage -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
cant wait to see what this thing does on higher voltages, that will determine if i should sell my 680m and upgrade or not. Im assuming, like the 680m, this thing will be godly once voltages are tweaked
-
I can't imagine how nice this rez will look on a 15" display. I assume they'll be bring this to the GT70 as well...?
Edit: I think a 780m (and certainly overclocked) will run most games fine at this resolution. I was running a single GTX 680 to 2560x1600 for a while and even that was a bit overkill for most games. -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
i def see the need for 2 780m's to run at that res, especially since im picky about about my framerates. Turning down some eye candy in games though to run at that resolution will be well worth it
-
While the resolution is pretty huge, I prefer 1920x1080 for my 15incher
But a dual GPU setup with such res would be sweet!
-
Do you think it's affordable for a guy like me?
-
At that pixel density and with newer games supporting higher number of triangles and more detailed paralax mapping who needs anti-aliasing anymore
Just place those highly compressed textures to 4k x 4k resolution to fully utilise the memory bandwidth and we are good to go
I hope it's matte too -
-
Hmm, afterall I still don't know if it's worth the upgrade from 680M to 780M. Can any of the owners give me feedback on the card?
-
Good thing I keep track of notebookreview when I can. HOT DAMN IS MSI BEING ! I'm still on the wall with next gen, as though the 780m is nice, the rest isn't that big of a difference. I do doubt that we'll have as big an increase as from Fermi>Kelpler. Now if only I could afford a new laptop, my 550m is nice and all, but I'm tired of my 768 screen. I want 1080 :<.

Everyone can save and get a super high end machine as long as you have your expenses under control

This is my next notebook, I wonder if it even has optimus on it since the 2 DP and HDMI dont since they support nvidia surround gaming. -
Maybe it was the Notebook God`s will that the seller backed out and that you didn`t get to buy that 4930XM. Instead you get to buy this high res GT60 instead.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Which comes with a 4930xm installed actually, it's going to require some extra saving but it looks like I have some time to do so.
Sorry guys it looks like work on the MSI Vbios and system bios will slow without me having the system yet but there you go. -
Patience is a virtue as they say.
-
Indeed it is. I`m still waiting for June 10th to see what Alienware have in store before making up my mind
I think its between M17x or MSI GT70/GT60 3K -
Do they/will they have a GT70 3k?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, it looks like we get a GT70 dragon edition 2 extreme with 4930xm.
-
Not the same resolution. I tried googling "2880x1620 17.3" but could only find 15.6 inch displays with that resolution.
I just hope something similar have been made for 17.3 inch laptops which MSI will use
Fingers crossed -

I'll swap out the 32GB DDR3L for my 16GB of 30nm samsung and I might replace the mSATA drives for intel 525s... hmz.
-
Do all GT70s have the issue of not being able to use the keyboard and touchpad simultaneously, or is that exclusive to the Dragon Edition?
-
Its Alpha and Omega to choose the most reliable brand if you are going Raid with 3 drives, thats for sure. If 1 of them breaks, then bye bye files.
Intel is reliable, but Plextor M5M or Samsung PM841 is just as reliable.

in 3 hours, my P150SM, 4700mq and GTX 780m will be in my possession
I debated if I needed that much power, and the conclusion was - no, I debated if I had the money, the answer was probably not....... I reminded myself how much I'd been looking forward to the W230ST, and also how the 770m option was £200 less and MORE than fast enough......... but ultimately the 780m is like a siren, and this femme fatale has drawn me in to her trap..... such beauty, such power.......... -

It will be nice to get up there and have a snoop around to see what else they have - I now know they've been sitting on the European supply of P150SM's and GTX 780m's for a while now!
I'll see if I can video the unboxing and upload it to youtube, and I'll drop in some photo's here.
I don't have any sort of video editing software and my camera will be my iphone so apologies in advance if it's a bit rough!
I`m upgrading, are you? (GTX 780M review inside)
