hmm i have a question, does WC3 runs like poo on the x3100 for you? for me, its fairly laggy (18-25 fps range) and i have to tone down some of the settings in order to not lag in battles when i play dota...

    i have a lenovo R61, with a intel core 2 duo T7250 2ghz, 1 gb of ram and the x3100 integrated card.

hmm, i set reso to 800x600 and all to med setting, if i set reso to 1024x800 everything to high i get similar to yours but not very laggy even in battles, but always get system error with the high setting..with the newest driver on xp can't even create a game

Try running it on software mode. It might run much faster. The default mode for WC3 is hardware mode.

    OK, 14.34 Quake 4:

800x600 Hi quality videos, 16:9 aspect ratio, shadows off, aa off, vsync no.
Definitely playable, no choppy play due low fps like with 14.33.1 with same settings. Even outside is playable.

how do you force warcraft 3 to run in software mode? i tried google and found a way to force it to run in opengl but is that the same as software mode? running in opengl didnt increase the fps by that much (although it might of been a shade better).

You have to use RegEdit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ialm\Device0, find _WoW.exe(or whatever is the exe of WoW), rightclick->Modify change the '0' with '1'. That should do it.

P.S. Make sure you know what you're doing modifying the registry.

Edit: If it's not in the list you have to rightclick->New->DWORD Value. Name it _WoW.exe. Set it to 1.

I am pretty sure he said WC3(Warcraft III) which is different from WoW(World of Warcraft). You need to create one if its not there.

    @IntelUserYou're right, sorry for that.

@Crazeman The instructions are correct, but you have to use the Warcraft 3 executable, not WoW, sorry, my bad to not read carefully.

OMG yeahhhhh....i cant believe this...i had given up all hopes and installed vista (so tht atleast i can use this card for Aero  )...thinking that i wil not be able to play Wolfenstein Enemy territory (The ONLY game that i play!) on this *&#%#@$# CARD!

BUT...yesterday i saw new drivers for xp.....somehow i felt that i shud give it a try......i cant say how happy i am!!!!

In a map..ET Beach....where i used to get 8 FPS....mind u among 30 players!!!!.....now i get 27-28 FPS!!!! YEAHHHH!!!!!! now the fps NEVER drops below 17-18..even in artilery!!!!...and is always around 30-45....in open areas.....(its above 50 "indoor" since old drivers...tht was never an issue).....

i dont play any other game.....after reading that x3100 can run hl2....i thot it can easily run W:ET....i never bothered to read the actual W:ET performance.....was also tight on budget!.....so bought inspiron 1525.....after realinzing tht this card is OUT OF THIS WORLD! i mean it runs latest games BETTER than old games...i was DUMBSTRUCK! I felt CHEATED!....but neway....thnx Intel....for these drivers.....if u improve them...i will be EVEN happpier.....

you know what guys....i referrd this thread or some other thread named "X3100 Gamin thread" before buying x3100....where games like COD4 were being discussed...that reallyMISLEAD me.....no offence meant...but the FIRST post should be edited to add that "THIS CARD IS DIFFERENT...i mean the CATCH about OLD GAMES!" noone reads the whole thread rite?

Thnx all...i joined this forum only to write this....wanted to share my SAD story with everyone...which is no longer sad... :) :) :) :) :)

Will keep an eye here....thnx again....

Personally I think that if you read the whole thread, you could actually found very interesting stuff - benchmarks, tweaks, what works or works better with different driver..I think it's worth reading it.

but i cud NEVER imagine that a card which can run COD4 @ 25fps & HL2 @ 30 FPS........will not be able to run a 4 year old game!!!!!! It was REALLY the SHOCK OF MY LIFE!

Just to add to it....i once even tried to run midtown madness.....(NOT midtown madness "2") and it DIDNOT detect graphic card! and ran game in 320x240 mode!....i was ACTUALLY STRUGGLING to find "1" " ONE " DAMN GAME that cud run at CONSISTENT 50 FPS+....I HATE gaming at LOW fps....i woould play a 3 year old game at 60+ FPS rather than CRYSIS @ 20 FPS......

Yeah well I found about this weird thingy about x3100 here, in this thread :) By the way Wolfenstein was ok even with 14.32 for me..ok you're right it was never near 60+ fps :) Anyway the thing is, you shoud have more tolerance with this IGP and eventually it will works :)(whatever it is :D)

HELL! no buddy! it was never OK!....i bet u didnt play online among 20-30 players!....the FPS was like....

    1st second 50
    2nd second 20
    3rd second 5
    4th second 60
5th second "0" as if laptop HANGED!
    6th second 7
    7th second 15

    it was WEIRED!

Now atleast i can be sure that its not gonna LAG me in a fight! 18fps is the MINIMUM i got in ETBeach! All flamethrowers, artilerries around! normally it was 25 in long draw distace [was 8FPS HERE before!!!!] and 60+ FPS in short range or indoorr.....

I ran it at 800x600 lowest settings and got 10-15fps on a 32 man server...basically, totally unplayable.

I must uninstall, clean and reinstall though....my terrible performance in GTA, coinciding with 20fps in Dawn of War at 1024x768 medium settings on a 2 man map leads me to believe something other then the hardware capabilities are at fault.

so im buying a macbook with the x3100 and i was wondering how it performs for games released in 2005 or earlier (with the exception of orange box and maybe cod4). the main games im interested in are: Doom 3, Far Cry, FEAR, Morrowind (although Oblivion at low setting and decent framerate would be awesome. anyone tried this game yet?), Halo, CSS, and KoTORII. is the macbook a good choice for me?

Halo is ok on 800x600 - the default setting actually, CS:S 1280x800 but in dxlevel 70 mode, FEAR runs ok at 640x480(Single Player) but so ugly I can't play it this way. The other games don't know :)

Right about FEAR, I didn't bother playing it after I installed it because it was so ugly. Far Cry, with tweaks, will run well on the newest drivers. I was getting 20-30 fps outdoors and 40-80 fps indoors with my settings (looked medium-ish @ 800 x 600). Doom 3, I haven't tried but I've heard bad things.

The general impression seems to be 15.9 and its XP equivalent(14.34) is a good improvement. This is good, I hope it improves.

atthegates: Doom 3 runs better on 14.34, didn't you say Quake 4 runs better?? Well Quake 4 uses the Doom 3 engine, so try it!

There is no reason not to be able to run it. They still don't have the drivers right. Unless the manufactuer has specific code saying X3100=do not run, which would be stupid since running it at all means=sales.

I just found out how to pass through 'video card not supported' message in Medal Of Honor: Airborne. I just add 'dxlevel 81' to the shortcut, like in HL2, just to see what happens and voila! The game loads, and tells me something like 'Map not found, do you want to load the default map?'. Choose OK and there you go, MOHA running(struggling :D). I tried the DEMO, I can't change VIDEO options in there, don't know if in the full version you can do it. So I can't tell if it will run ok..
After adding 'dxlevel'(I suppose you can put any word in there :)) to the shortcut and make the game work, I removed it and tried to run it again and it runs like a charm, no error msg whatsoever. I guess if you pass one time through this videocard check, it modifies the registry and do not check anymore.
Anyway, for the people who wants to try MOHA on their x3100, maybe this is a solution..

Edit: I added dxlevel 81 not -dxlevel 81 like it should be in HL2, but I suppose it doesn't matter. I can't try it now to see if matters, so I decided to mention it just in case.. :D
Edit2: Tested on XP Pro SP3.

How well did Quake 4 run exactly? Doom 3 has moments (when you're not looking at anything complex) when the FPS is fine, but it seems any time you're looking at a light source, the FPS plummets to the single digits. I'll play around with it more tomorrow but it doesn't seem playable.

Quake 4 runs fine. The only time I get low fps, is in huge rooms with at least 8-10 people(marines and bad guys). But is very rare. I passed 2/3 of the game already. Good graphics and 20-50FPS.

Interesting, I'll try it on mine. I tried to play STALKER, but it seems pretty impossible. Outside with no villages in sight or in enclosed tunnels, it runs fine, but once you get into small towns or in houses, the FPS drops to unplayable numbers. This is with static lighting, most options on low. Disappointing, though this is an '07 game.

Quick question about processors- right now my Lenovo has a Celeron 540 1.86 Ghz @ 533 mhz FSB, I'm wondering if I'll see much of a performance increase with the T5550 Dual Core 2 @ 1.86 ghz? In other words, what kind of performance increases, game wise, would I see by trading up for a "better" processor?

P.S. I've run STALKER with the settings listed on Intel's website and lower, they don't make a difference.

It will make a difference, but not too much. Framerate won't boost through the roof, but it will show a small improvement. It will, however, show improvement on tasks, and CPU intensive games/applications. But for say, Stalker... not too much. I would guess 5-7FPS boost. The X3100 is the bottleneck, not the CPU. (Even though it is very weak)

800x600, shadows off, AA off, videos HIGH. XP SP3, 14.34. It was unplayable with 14.33/14.33.1 with the same settings.

Personally, I'm not a Quake fan, but Quake 4 is a damn good shooter.

    It should improve performance..upgrading my T2370 1.73ghz 533FSB to T7500 2.2ghz 800FSB gave me 5-10 FPS more in CS:S.

I wonder if it's my processor- I just tried Quake 4 at 640 x 480 high (med and low are same) and it's unplayable in the same way Doom 3 was. I'm running the newest drivers, don't know what else it could be.

Yeah, I think its the processor too..Celeron 540 1.86ghz vs T7500..I'm telling you, with my 1.73Ghz T2370 it was unplayable..always struggling.
What is your HDD capacity/rpm btw? And how much RAM do you have?

@Eason Just tried S.T.A.L.K.E.R, with the Intel's settings I must say it runs fine, better then Quake 4. Got 2-3 slowdowns but for like 1-2sec then back to normal..
