Some people only have an X3100 and don't want to spend money on a new notebook.
Some games work very well. Most don't.

Yes but the X3100 was never intended to be a gaming performer. To think a driver upgrade is going to deliver a phenomenal gaming experience is a joke. I have found allot of laptops with dedicated cards priced reasonably or lower than laptops that included X3100, 4500 MD or any other Intel integrated card.
Something to consider when purchasing a laptop especially with gaming in mind is performance. Intel isn't known for making mid - high end GPU's. -

intel come back to versian 14.38 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? -
you think the people here don't know that its not a dedicated gaming solution and will play everything out with full AA and max res? im sure they are well aware and maybe they just like the thought of tinkering with the x3100 to see what they CAN do with it.
maybe they are like me with a quad core rig, a 30" lcd and dual 8800 ultras and still would rather play plants vs. zombies on their crappy little netbook or whatnot. -

It's a series 4 driver (X4500). 'Update driver' type installation on mine results in a blank bootup screen. -
I think the saying goes something like this:
You can`t polish a turd -
QFT. Most logical statement in this thread lol.
-
then why bother posting over and over on how bad it sucks? point is noted. it sucks for all gaming. the 4500 sucks for all gaming.
now you don't have to interject it every time someone comes here to ask a question. -
Ok good that we agree. I go back to my cave now

i like my cave. the wife likes it too when i get on her nerves.

Heroes of Newerth works great on low details on the x3100 which is all i need

Hi guys I've got a problem. Yesterday I have changed my os for win7. Before Win7 I had been using Vista. When playing games on vista, games in resolution 4:3 were stretched to the whole screen. Now that I have installed Win7 and installed official drivers from the intel site for win7 32 bit games are not stretched. Can it by changed? I mean I like to use my whole screen not just 2/3 of it ;P

You have to install the vista driver (don't worry, they work fine with win7).
-
but u will proably get slower performance with the vista driver
-
I guess you've seen it already (Clarkdale intel GPU Performance):
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3704&p=4 -
The new graphics panel even has manual control for software and hardware vertex shaders.
-
How is the win7 drivers compared to the Vista drivers?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
About the same.

Moral hazard is right, I havn't notice any difference.

Hi all
I'm new and am looking for any solution or any software, drivers ... anything with which to activate the acceleration directx texture as these leave me disabled, I try to play the L2 and tells me the AGP, not activated, how can I activate it?
Lineage2 game at 10-15 fps and it feels fine.
Install Windows Vista could be a winning solution for FPS?
My operating system is Windows XP SP3 DirectX 9.0c and my driver the last -
You have no ing idea

All been very quiet on the x3100 wn7 driver front
still lots of improvement to openGL support/bugfixes to be made -

I haven't posted here in a while, but I just found something interesting that might help us X3100 owners a bit (I did a search on the forums and didn't find it anywhere).
It's called the Intel Display Adapter Management Tool. It works with Vista/7 and is simple to use. What it does it allows you to choose Software Rendering instead of Hardware Rendering.
Running several back to back 3DMark '06 tests, my system would score consistent 380's without it, and consistent 530's with it.
That's a 40% increase. Not bad for a free tool that's a breeze to use.
You can d/l it from the programmer's site here:
Isair's Programming Heaven
http://theprogrammingheaven.blogspot.com/2010/02/intel-display-adapter-management-tool.html
Let me know if you guys heard of it before, and what results you have with it.

It's almost a year, but intel released a new driver for Vista:
v15.12.4.1666 -> v15.12.6.2039
Vista 32-Bit ( Download)
Vista 64-Bit ( Download)
Taken from the desktop mainboard section and thus no change/release log. This one is usally available once driver enters gpu driver section.Code:* Intel(R) B43 Express Chipset * Intel(R) G31 Express Chipset * Intel(R) G33 Express Chipset * Intel(R) G35 Express Chipset * Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset * Intel(R) G43 Express Chipset * Intel(R) G45 Express Chipset * Intel(R) Q33 Express Chipset * Intel(R) Q35 Express Chipset * Intel(R) Q43 Express Chipset * Intel(R) Q45 Express Chipset * Mobile Intel(R) GL40 Express Chipset * Mobile Intel(R) GL960 Express Chipset * Mobile Intel(R) GLE960 Express Chipset * Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset * Mobile Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset * Mobile Intel(R) GS45 Express Chipset
I quickly tested Trackmania Forever on my machine and got 28.4 fps (15.12.4.1666) -> 28.5 fps (15.12.6.2039), which is hardly a performance improvement. Anyone has WEI winsat d3d and dwm numbers? -
On 3Dmark '03, I scored 1060 with the new driver.
Going into software rendering mode with the Intel Display Adapter Management Tool, I scored 1488.
Software rendering is kicking the X3100's butt ... -
im trying to install XP on a VGN FZ210C sony vaio laptop, which i believe has this video chipset but i'm having a heck of a time, anyone out there done this? i'm wrackin my brain on this one

What's the problem?
HDD not detected?
If so, go to intel driver download site, select your chipset (GM965/PM965), download the floppy config utility that will make a floppy disk for you with the SATA drivers for the chipset. Need to press F6 or something during xp setup to load the driver. Or you can disable AHCI in the BIOS to skip all that... -
Hallo. I want to ask if someone have saved official Intel 8.15.10.1749 driver for Win7. Because I have problem with flashing screen and slow the NHL09. On Win XP i never had this problem. On win7 with original 8.15.10.1749 WDDW1.1 driver was not flashing screen, but this driver has not Intel Control Panel and doesnt support -hwtnl and -swtnl atributes (I use it for COD2 and UT2004). Thanx for reply.

Quick question.
I have a laptop with a X3100 and Windows XP. It's in a dual boot, so XP is only there for gaming.
What's the best driver?
Thanks -

The latest one from intels website.

So this one then?

My computer wont update to the newest version for Vista (15.12.4.1666), even when I unistall the driver and install the newest version it still puts version 7.15.10.1637 on. is going on?

I Got Huge Problem Pls Hlp Me ...how Can I Incrase My Memory To The Graphic Card From 128 ?? It Ays I Can Have Shared Memory Up To 386 Pl Hlp Me Pls Pls Pls :
-
There's a fixed size of main memory dedicated to the X3100 and a dynamic (DVMT) one. Both together can't be more than 384MB on X3100. It's very likely that your computer already uses these 384MB of memory if applications require it, since you didn't tell to which OS and which numbers you were refering.
Windows XP and Windows Vista/7 behave completely different regarding shared memory for GPUs. E.g. in XP the fixed size is determined by the BIOS and can NEVER be more than 128MB - however the XP driver will still be able to facilitate the entire 384MB if applications require it. The driver tries to be smart and doesn't statically steal memory if other applications would require that memory much more.
Read about the differences betwenn XP and Vista/7 and their different reporting of GPU memory on X3100 here in Section Dynamic Video Memory:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-gma-3000-and-x3000-developers-guide/
Read about how GPU shared memory allocations reported in the different UI controls here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/graphicsmemory.mspx -
Well i use windows 7 but i installed drivers from Vista c'z it shoed that have 64 MB and i know i have 128 MB so now it's up to 128 MB ...but i want to make it up to 256 at least ...
can u tell me how it can't be done trough the bios
-
Basically you made it worse by installing the Vista drivers. As I already pointed out: You're only refering to the static part of the GPU memory allocation, which is 64MB on Win7 and 128MB on Vista. You CANT change that (except disassembling Windows drivers). Even another BIOS can't change that.
Go into the display properties and read:
What that means is that the driver uses always at least 128MB of memory and if it requires more memory it will allocate up to 358MB by itself. Everything is alright. The same applies to Win7.
All information is contained in the documents I refered. Eg. Microsoft document incl. Screenshots p.6 "Graphics Memory Reporting through WDDM" and p.12 "Example 3: 256-MB Shared Graphics Memory on a Mobile PC". -
well tnx
) i wanted to play games better like PES10 and so ...i understand now ...tnx

Thanks for the link to that utility that enables software T&L. Gonna try to install it tonight.

Does anybody know if Intel plans to release any updates to x3100 drivers(Win7)? It's been more than half a year since the last update
Does it mean that they abandoned further development of the drivers? Do I also understand it right that there won't be an update to support Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration on x3100? Does anybody have any input on this?

Off topic but.... i just noticed over half a million people have viewed this thread... wow.
-
yup.. that much people have integrated graphics in their laptop. I was one of these "millions" of people. I didn't do enough research before spending 900$ on a crappy dell laptop. Well now i sold it and i have upgraded to Asus which I love
-
thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
Integrated GPU's never have any sort of decent power.
-
integrated graphics aren't just in poor cheap laptops, they've been used in a lot of VERY expensive laptops too to keep size/weight/heat down. Like.... thinkpads for example.
half a million thread views, you'd think Intel would take that as a hint to update the win7 drivers wouldn't you
sigh
(proper adobe creative suite openGL 2 support pls, etc) -
Flash Hardware Acceleration is about H.264 acceleration:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/releasenotes.pdf
which is a feature the X3100 lacks in hardware. In other words: You won't get a software driver update with H.264 hardware acceleration for X3100 graphics.
Intel GMA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And for the intel G4x and intel HD there is H.264 hardware acceleration support in the latest 10.1 flash player:
Adobe Labs - Adobe Flash Player 10.1
If you really require flash hardware support, you could try the Broadcom Crystal HD Mini-PCIe card:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/2898
It's supported by the current flash 10.1 rc6 and should be available on e-bay.
The fastest Software H.264 Decoder you can find in the x86 world is
http://corecodec.com/products/coreavc
Great product thus I bought it. Although most people will find ffdshow-tryouts sufficient as well. unfortunately neither one can be integrated with Flash. It's just for DirectShow players such as MediaPlayerClassic HomeCinema.
Yeah, intel gfx is crap for gaming. Except maybe intel HD in certain cases:
The Clarkdale Review: Intel's Core i5 661, i3 540 & i3 530 - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
At work I use a thinkpad notebook with ATI graphics with latest Ubuntu. And I actually wish it had intel integrated graphics (or nvidia). I'm suffering severe lagging with current official ATI Linux drivers:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/568988
and the open source drivers on the other hand crash the notebook once a day. -
The newer BCM970015 chip sounds great (even lower power requirements, and mpeg4 acceleration) but it isn't on a mini PCIe car yet.
When it is though it seems it should be a great choice for anyone with a spare mini PCIe slot (like thinkpad x6x users with no WWAN card) -
What do others get in CS:S under Windows 7? Performance is definitely better than under Vista. I get 32.21 fps average though at 1280x800 with settings on high. 55fps is a huge difference.
Edit: I get 43fps average with all settings on low at 1024x768 res..
Intel X3100 users rejoice! It's finally here! New Pre-Beta Drivers
