YAY! new driver! @j95 already made their modded INFs so I'll be installing it tonight and check if that improves things.

There is no way MEA has worse animations than ME1 as animations in ME1 are as animations in any ME game, abominable
But seriously I enjoyed ME series more than any other game series I ever played, so who cares about animations.DukeCLR likes this. -

Well, I care about animations. A game with so much dialogue must have good animations.
And I really think facial animations look better in ME1 than MEA.DukeCLR likes this. -

LOL people still faulting the animations. Animations are there. Its the stupid queuing and blending that is messing things up. But who wants to listen right. Pitchforks up, all common sense down. Lets goo!

My common sense says: don't care for the reasons why animations are bad - bad queuing, lazy devs - game should be ready before release.Ashtrix likes this. -
My post was more towards people are ready to point fingers at an individual , than a companies collective **** up. There is no way this stuff didnt come up in QA.

If someone is to blame, it's EA. They probably demanded Bioware to rush release of MEA.
I agree that no way QA didn't notice things like tired (clown) face lady. I mean, it's in the first 1-2h of game! But EA needs that money! So out you go, MEA.Mitlov likes this. -

hopefully a patch comes out to fix performance issues.

Yeah, but this is EA. When's the last time they did that?
-
And here we, the players/consumers, are again. A triple A game that feels like it's not ready, but hey it's EA, so let's shell out our hard earned cash for it. Would we be saying the same thing about a car, hey the brakes don't work buts it's a-fill in car manufacturers name.Last edited: Mar 22, 2017 -
Mass Effect Andromeda To Be “Strongly Supported” http://wccftech.com/mass-effect-and...ward-character-creation-improvements-evalued/

Considering the system specs involved with this game... would it be 'hardware suicide' to try and run this game on my laptop (in signature)?
If I max out the resolution to 720p and lower the detailing to Medium, or possibly Low... hypothetically... what kind of performance could I expect?
I am being serious btw. With no other recourse or funds at my disposal to buy a proper new machine, I'm stuck.Atma likes this. -
On the other hand, EA has a good track record of eventually patching the bugs out of games that are buggy at launch. And a game where the character sometimes walks funny isn't exactly as bad as a car with faulty brakes.
While part of me wants to delay my purchase to punish EA for not fixing these bugs before launch, another part of me says "they're not game-breaking bugs, just some visual shortfalls in a game that otherwise sounds fun-as-heck." I'll probably buy it this weekend.Atma likes this. -
I doubt you could run it. The minimum is supposed to be 2mb vram. You can try this and see what is says. Nevermind. I don't see MEA listed there.
-
Not going to execute that Detection.exe file... sorry, but the website is unfamiliar to me and don't want to run something problematic.
Guess I could try and see if it takes... the FPS might end up horrible though.
-
It's safe. It just checks to see your system specs to see if you can run a game. I just checked again and Andromeda is in the list now.
Well I'm liking the game. I've probably only played 4 or 5 hours so far and .. damn .. there are a lot of cut scenes. I hope that slacks off the further I go. Getting good frame rates with ultra/high settings. 120 with dips to 90-85ish with gsync on. -
the fps take a hit during the conversations / cutscenes whenever the camera changes to a different angle or a different scene...it's like a 5-6fps hit but noticeable.
not sure what others get in this situation.Atma likes this. -
Yes same here. I noticed that yesterday especially when zoomed in on someone talking.
-
You would not even be able to launch the game.
-
Had a chance to install it and get it set up, but I won't have a chance to play it at any length. The character models are definitely a step back from ME3, and several character have eyes that are perpetually a bit too wide-awake...but the issue has been overblown IMO, because for me, Mass Effect is about the story and the exploration, not about amazing graphics and eye candy.
I'm darned excited to start exploring Andromeda.hfm likes this. -

Isn't the story delivered through the amazing facial animations, which kinda does make it big deal. So far I noticed that Tired Face Lady is by far the most. The rest are of variable quality. Aliens do look good, but with humans it's a hit and miss.
Anyway, since I'm a hypocrite, I bought MEA too.
So far so good. I like it better than ME3. The gameplay itself is fun, partially thanks to jetpack. Nomad is also a vast improvement over Mako.
But unfortunately I do have a few complains, some of which are nitpicks. Crap Character Creator (step back from DAI), goofy/bad animations (duh!) and at parts bad voice acting/cutscenes, mining (whoever though it was a good idea to bring it back?), that unskippable planet zoom in thing, it crashes for me a lot, no quick save function, can only map 3 powers (it's like no one who play tested it never played a game on a keyboard), mouse cursor often remains on the screen after cutscenes, problems with scanner (I take it out but it goes away, have to Alt+Tab for it to work properly again), can't use Enter to select menu items (I know it sounds like scrapping the bottom of the barrel, but it's kinda annoying I can't use enter to select things). Also you have to restart the game to change graphics settings. And of course there are microtransactions in yet another full priced AAA game..
Story is OK so far. At least I like being explorer more than a Earth/Galaxy saver for 120128312nd time.
Performance seems good, although after I just start the game it stutters a lot. After some time it runs very smooth.Last edited: Mar 25, 2017DukeCLR likes this. -
Following the story arc of ME1 through ME3...no. Not at all. In fact, one of the most compelling storylines of the Mass Effect trilogy contained no facial expressions whatsoever: the Quarians and the Geth. Half the actors wear opaque facemasks at all times; the other half have flashlights as "faces." Most other alien species aren't much more expressive. Even among the human characters, I can't think of a single moment where facial expressions made a moment memorable.
When I think of memorable moments, they're because of events, actions, plotlines, music, and words (either dialog or text).
Tali's suicide and the reasons for it were heartbreaking, not the facial expression of any character as she fell.
Mordin going up a tower to deliver the genophage cure, knowing there's no time to come back down but that he has to cleanse his sins with this act.
Near the end of ME3, when you're walking around the burned-out husk of an Earth city, you find a datapad with an email to a fire chief to firefighters. The reapers are now targeting first responders as well as civilian populations, and he's asking for volunteers to drive fire trucks as simply as decoys to try and buy time for more civilians to evacuate, knowing full well those volunteers are doomed and can't even fight back.
Realizing that the evil AI in "Overlord" isn't an AI at all but an autistic young man that's been tied into a computer and weaponized by his own brother.
Urdnot Wrex in ME1 struggling with whether or not to destroy the Krogan cloning facility, a godawful ethical choice with no right answer.
Etc.
Hell, whether you're into JRPGs like Final Fantasy or western RPGs like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, facial expressions have rarely been a part of those games at all until quite recently. They've historically told their stories, some of which quite compelling, without any reliance whatsoever on facial expressions. -

That's why I keep my teammates with mask on all the time
.
Well yeah, if there are no face to face dialogues, it's all fine. No complains. If you can't make them or think they are not necessary - don't.
But MEA has those, so I expect them to be on par with recent €60 AAA titles. -

this game is killer on my system in my signature. Playing 4K with every setting maxed out (besides AA) and its pegging both of my GPUs at 100 percent most of the time. First game to really stress my laptop out in a long while.

I come back to this thread with my hat in my hand, head bowed and humbled. This game is hella good. It looks awesome on my 49" 4k screen with all the eye candy cranked all the way up
just got to the space station, looks like the Citidal. I do like the way the game controls play like the other ME games so far. Nothing new to learn

ME:A should be pretty cheap by the time Bioware fixes all that. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Doubt they will fix the animations.
Let's hope they at least fix the bugs, because this game is rather buggy. -
Has anyone had any cutscene skipping? ( I loaded it up on my desktop which I'm shortly replacing as it's several years old and the intro cutscene's were ridiculously choppy)
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Yeah, I had a few stutters during cutscenes, but now they are gone.
I guess the new nVidia driver did work. That or I haven't been to the Cita... Nexus for far too long, since it's where I had stuttery cutscenes. -
thegreatsquare Notebook Deity
That would be unfortunate. I made it through Dragon Age 2 twice [...don't ask for three times] because the story/banter. I don't think I can make it through ME:A unless it gets fixed.
Bioware needs to do a ME:A-Culpa and then fix this. -
Former Mass Effect animator speculates they used algorithms for the animations and didn´t have time to polish them by hand:

I'm intermittently having the dialog wheel bug where it selects whichever option is selected when the wheel first comes up, instead of letting you see the choices and choose one. Anyone else having this?
In terms of substance, I'm struck by how less "alien" Andromeda feels than the Milky Way did in ME1-ME3. I mean, even the aliens just feel like humans in makeup instead of something totally foreign like the Hanar. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Happened to me on a few occasions. Just Alt-Tab'ed and everything worked well. -
I played Mass Effect 2 and 3, but I will give it a try. I'm not so much impressed, because I read mixed reviews. However, I don't jugde a game by its cover, so I'll have to find out.

LOL is this AAA title ? BioWare is dead, Patches are not going to fix this...RIP -
I haven't had a chance to play since the 1.05 patch came out yesterday. Does it help the game?
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Classic Bioware was dead long ago. IIRC most of the staff lrft after Mass Effect 3. Current BW is just a shelf of its former glory.
Moreover, this game was made by a so called B team - BW located in a different town.
Well the eyes do look better now an some animations were fixed made better. A few bugs are also gone, though that annoying mouse cursor bug still exists.
The way they implemented that track skip is also not very good. You can't use it during trips form one cluster to another, and when flying from planet to planet it still does that annoying zoom to first planet and then goes to second one, so you have to click Tab to skip it. Just wish I could disable it altogether without the need of constantly clicking Tab.
Also we are now able to select dialogue options by clicking on a number key. BW finally figured it out!
I do wish they would also let us bind more than three powers to quickslots. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Seems the patch introduced a new bug for me - when I Alt-Tab it goes into windowed mode and won't return to fullscreen unless I go into settings to switch it back on.
-
A lot of small changes result in a dramatically-better feeling final product. It still doesn't exude the brilliance of the best DLC of ME2 (Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker, etc), but it doesn't feel like a train wreck either.
I had the same issue last night. Couldn't figure out how to turn it back to fullscreen so I just played it windowed with the taskbar visible. I'll check settings next time.Atma likes this. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Apparently if you use left Alt with Enter instead of right Alt (like I did) it goes back to full screen. Haven't tried it, but people on the Internet say it helps. Very weird bug...
I just went in Video settings and re-enabled fullscreen and it went back. -
This "bug" has been in Frostbite Engine games since at least BF3.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Well before the patch Alt-Tab worked without a problem. -
The 1.05 patch did not fix the kill the Kett mission bug on Eos. So far I'm still able to progress. Game should have Restart level option
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Which mission is that?
I also encountered a bug, which doesn't let me complete Earn Your Badge task.
I have finished the game. 73 or so hours, level 60. Only have about 10 tasks unfinished, which I doubt I will bother to complete, but otherwise I have finished everything I could find.
Overall, despite it being, I would say, above average, I still enjoyed the game pretty much. I even think I might do an NG+ some time later. Hopefully BW will fix as much as they can by that time...Atma likes this.
