    Wrong

When trying to flash a custom vBios with successful TDP modded vBIOS via nvflash you get BCRT Error: Certificate 2.0 verification failed
The tool is not compatible with vBios that contain some 8th gen CPU information in the ROM, which is the problem @Mr Pras is facing.

If he would flash that modded vBios via a HWprogrammer on his coffee lake system, he would probably have a blackscreen.

Pretty much, welcome to Ngreedia and intel. TDP limiting the crap out of our hardware. Now we live in a time where a GTX 1060 is not eqal to another GTX 1060. Can't purchase notebooks based on specs, but have to read through multiple reviews figuring out how much it has been nerfed compared to others.

I9 in dell XPS/macbook and possibly other thin and lights are worse than non bottlennecked 8750H, good job intel.

Then mod then hex edit it to match the cert 2.0. If you have to change 1 you have to change all of the chips to accept the same cert. It is the same thing as reprogramming the super i/o chip. U program it through thr keybaord interface becuase it needs to be flashed live with not on its ona seperate stand alone type of deal.

I agree in a general sense, but you also have to put a TON of blame on the half-assed notebook manufacturers for poorly engineered systems that require castrated performance just to cope with heat they did not adequately plan for, or just didn't care enough to build right. Intel and NVIDIA know that their processors are going to be installed in broken turdbooks that were slapped together in a haphazard manner, so there is not much point in them caring. If they made their products perform at full capacity the garbage they get installed in would overheat more and throttle even more than they already do. The OEM/ODM approach is already from the angle of crippling to fit the chassis rather than building the chassis so that no crippling would be necessary.

    What are you talking about?
We have 3 GTX 1060 versions, all with different performance.
GTX 1060 3GB inferior to GTX 1060 6GB and that one inferior to GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 ram. All desktop cards, it has nothing to do with notebooks.

    Hell even the same GPU:

Is giving you different performance because of the garbage GPU Boost and silicon.
I know you like to blame everything on notebooks, but this is just nGreedia being idiots.

Really? Go back and re-read your own post. You specifically mention notebooks.

And, I don't blame notebooks. I blame the retards that buld them so half-assed. They're responsible for the fact that they suck, not Intel and NVIDIA.

GTX 1060 is a cheap, low-budget product and inconsistent performance results should be expected to some extent from products that fall into that class. It should be durable and adhere to a minimum standard, but don't expect gourmet cuisine on a McDonald's budget.

Within the confines of the GTX 1060 model line there are also varying degrees of mediocrity. A "deluxe" version that costs more and has had more attention to design should perform better than one that has not received the same level of attention and costs less. But, this is not exclusive to GTX 1060. Same concept applies to other GPUs sold with NVIDIA and AMD graphics chips. They are not all equal just because they have the same processor.

Yes reread my post. I said limiting TDP, the notebook part was an example.

Also no, NNgreedia and intel specifically instructed manufacturers to limit the hardware. That's why we can't have a superclocked GTX 1070 for instance, so that nGreedia can release the GTX 1070 TI. If you had read into the whole nvidia partnership drama, you would have known about this as well. Same goes for the whole maxq bs.

Also most, if not all notebooks can EASILY handle the TDP limit set to them. I cannot think of a single new notebook that runs hot after a repaste. Most modern notebooks suffer from bad thermal compound, not the actual cooling solution. I was suprised to see myself after repasting so many thin and lights, how well they actually handle the heat. Once you unlock the TDP however, you're in deep ****.

Hey guys, I saw a post where coolane mentioned about modified clevo gtx 1060 vbios from 78w tdp to 88w tdp, which is safe to flash with nvflash, could anyone share it please? thanks.

The override switches -4 -5 -6 that nvflash used to have to ignore id string mismatch and force the flash were removed with 10 series.

We've been using hardware spi flashers for the past couple years as a result

Perhaps lucky in your case I'd check whether 1c20 and 1c60 are able to be cross flashed because if they aren't, you have just been prevented from bricking your gpu
Not sure what your specific complaint is, but you should search for the story how years ago they screwed members of this forum such as Mr.Fox by pretending to want to work with enthusiasts and instead just took the info and locked down their systems even more. That was the day they ditched AW and started playing with the Clevo P870.

Try adding -6 and answer Y to both prompts that follow and see if that works. In other words, using your screen shot, the command would be nvflash -6 oc.rom

I forgot where, but there is a different NVFLASH version ( I believe @Mr. Fox posted it in the MSI 16L13 thread) that will allow you to flash this bios. I did it with my 1060. Although honestly the 10W TDP increase didn't really help.

@acekard don't try force flashing that vBIOS it will result in a brick for sure, even SPI Flashing will cause a Brick on the GPU (It was one test i did which was to do it the other way round 1c60 to 1c20 resulted in black screen) like @bennyg said it saved you from bricking your card.

Your best bet is to get a USB SPI programmer that supports the chip, a 1.8v adapter , some wire and the SOIC 8 test clip. Plenty of links in this forum for these items.

Then that way you can dump the original vbios 3 times to check the checksums match then keep one as a back up then use the tool to mod the vbios TDP limit and flash back with the SPI programmer.

if I have original vbios and accidentally brick through nvflash I can easily reflash with hw programmer, yes? just don't really wanna spend money for hw programmer if not needed for ~10-15% gpu performance.

Mine was 1C60. Just saw yours is 1C20, I wouldn't try flashing then. Your best bet is to just use MSI Afterburner to tweak your card.

Ok, so I´ve bought everything I needed to do the mod. I´ve read trough the whole 143, pages, but still I have some doubts about the process.
I´ve got a Msi GT73vr 6re (1070 rev 1.2 and 6820HK) with a 230w. From what I´ve seen, if I want to stay with the 230w adaptor, which is the easier, I should do a maximum of 150w. Also, after 150w, the gains in performance are not so great. So, I think I will buy the 330w adaptor, but I think I could do 150w to 185w, so, for everyday use, I don´t need to change the ec, value, using only 150w and if I need the extra performace, I could just use afterburner to overclock it to 185w besides changing the ec. After this, I´m going to write the process just to check if I´m right.

    1. Take out the 1070 and connect it to the sky pro.
    2. Use the skypro tool to load the bios and do a backup
    3. Modify the bios to 151w-185w, modify mw to 19200 and the temperature throttling at what number?
    4. Flash the new bios
    5. New thermal paste and pads and ready to go.
    6. Should I sand the heatsink?

Thank you very much for this great tool and post

What values in Bios tweaker should I enter to securely reach 19000FS Graphic Score?

He was friends with Dremonic (voltground website for modding?) but even Dremonic (?) shut down his own site.
Wish this tool had been open source.

Surely someone else knew about Dreamonic's work with checksums and can try to make an up to date editor?
Would be very nice to have one that worked with RTX cards too, even though SPI flashers and 1.8v adapters are still mandatory.

I'm very surprised with all the intelligent people around here, no one wants to try to code this thing....

I´ve got a question, is it possible to do the mod on a Msi gt73vr v1.0 1070? Will there be any problem with it? I´m going to do it on my gt73vr which has the v1.2, but my brothers is a v1.0....

Nope shouldn't be any problems if you follow the procedure. I'm pretty sure others have done it for gt73 1070s. My cards were v1.0 and went to 200W with no problem (except cooling)

The MSI 1070s are the best candidates as they have a very strong vrm and can easily handle the higher power draw

Only way to know is to experiment and try.
The only thing I know is that some voltage points between 0.900v to 1.013v were bugged on the 1.0 cards, making them crash when they power limit throttled down to that voltage.
Setting TDP to 230W will prevent the card from ever downvolting to that point, although going past 200000 mw TDP value in the editor will require you use the GTX 1080 extreme power limit "preset" overclock value when you mod a gtx 1080 card and want to go higher than 200W (forgot what it is, you need to open a GTX 1080 vbios (MSI has them for the GT73VR on their website), open it in the editor, then click "Preset" and write down the extreme power limits that changed (one I know was 19,200, don't remember the other but it was the third value).

    NO it will absolutely NOT.
This is a hardware bug on the card itself with some sort of missing or bad VRM or resistor. It has nothing to do with the vbios.
1.2 and 1.0 cards have the same vbios anyway
86.04.5b.00.3a for GT73VR, and some other one for GT72VR's (I believe that ended in 0D). No problem with using that in a GT73VR except the build date was older than 3a too. No changelogs make things really fun.

There was an '86.04.5b.00.44' vbios that was temporarily released and then pulled by MSI after some people complained it wasn't working (I'm using that in my 230W TDP 1070 simply because it's a newer build date).

    Any source on that?
I know that the pre preduction cards were bugged and needed a wire to get fixed because of the issue you just explained but never heard of the 1.0 having hardware related bugs. hence I'm interested where I can read on that.

The old MSI thread. But no hardware proof as i dont have an oscilloscope or any probing devices. @heliada knows more.

People were trying these vbioses left and right with no help.
Then MSI (China) made that "oh too bad here are boost clocks disabled" vbios, then the "famous 8A" vbios which disabled boost 2 clocks.
The .44 vbios was released for 1 week and recalled. (For the GT72VR). I snagged it and modded it and had no problems but some people couldn't load windows.

@bloodhawk and @bennyg know more about this. But you need hardware tools to probe the board to find out why the 0.900v-1.0v range is failing.
MSI started replacing the cards with 1.2 cards when people started pressuring them hard on phone/email recently.
