Before you start with OC'ing the 7720, if you go over to the Dell forums, there's a few threads regarding the 7720 and an annoying (but fixable) bug that can stop the GPU boost and prevent OC'ing.

Once you've got that nailed, the 7720 will OC nicely. Unlike some people's experience with the 650M in other laptop makes, temperature seems to be the limiting factor here. For example, OC'ing to 950MHz will get you up to around 86-88C in LA Noire at 1080p max settings. So although extreme OC'ing is probably out, you should be fine up to around this level.

Just as an update. I installed the 295 drivers which came with my clevo, and the low GPU usage on TF2 is even worse. This is getting a tad annoying now, but I guess I just wait it out for a stable 304 or something.

Oh yeah, that's a Kepler card. I actually saw this on another user where you can only set the P0 and P8 state, which is weird. From my experience, you can't overclock the P8 state, it just crashes for some reason. And the P0 state is limited to +135mhz on the core. The only way to go past +135mhz on the core is to get the vBIOS modded since you don't have the middle P5 state =/ what drivers are you using btw?

Bought this laptop yesterday and I'm finding it's performance while playing BF3 ordinary, I've tried both the 295.55 and 304.79 drivers with everything you could possibly set to high performance, even going into bios and disabling power saving CPU. ( Have been getting much better results playing with a second Gen i7 + HD 6770M)

I'm sick of this stupid power saving phase laptop manufacturers are going through. switchable graphics is a good idea on page, but blows hard in practice. If the retards don't let it go soon, I'll be going back to desktops even though I believe they're yesterdays news, at least you can build or buy one that hasn't been crippled by the tree huggers ideology.

If anyone knows of something I've missed in my set up, I'd appreciate hearing about it

Not getting as many kills in TDM  Usually when up close to an opponent player, I'd get killed more often than not. If you're up close one on one and you shoot first you should (if your aim is good) kill them in the majority of those encounters.

I'll tell you for some time I was having this problem with the HD 6770M and it was a driver issue, I thought I'd be smart and use the drivers from Nvidia or Guru instead of the stock package from HP and more often than not in a one on one encounter I'd get bent over (I believed the HD 6770M was to blame, thinking it's a very average card) . One day I was update from Nvidia or Guru and encountered a glitch, not being able to get both the catalyst control center with drivers, downloading any version. So I went back to HP and tried their download knowing their drivers are much older, but they were by far the best drivers and started getting results (kills wise) I would only dream of.

Anyway back to the issue at hand, after posting the last post I went to the Intel® Driver Update Utility and I needed to update the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 + Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi drivers (even though I used the Easy software manager to auto detect updates, that comes installed on the laptop), doing this + changing my external monitors resolution from 1600 x 900 to 1920 x 1080 has helped, still IMO not as good as the HD 6770M in a one on one encounter.
I know this 3rd Gen i7 + GT 650M rig runs much faster (game wise) than the rig with the 2nd Gen i7 + HD 6770M and I know that in a Benchmarks test this will blow the 2nd Gen i7 + HD 6770M away, but Benchmarks tests don't shoot back

I've created a store point and I'm going to try installing a driver package from another laptop manufacturer, in the hope of getting a little more out of it.

Performance = FPS, not your K/D ratio. Could be that the wireless network card in the Inspiron 17R SE isn't as good as the one in your previous laptop, but the performance, thus the FPS, should definitely be higher with the GT 650M.

You are right, benchmark tests don't shoot back, but FPS is FPS. And the FPS should be higher, so either the cause is something else (like the wireless), you've just become worse, or there is some other issue.

No doubt, but having FPS of 1,000, 000 means little if when you get close to other players you have hardly any control of your weapon or no matter how many times you hit them they still kill you.

If you go on the notion that FPS matter more than stability, good luck to you.

This could be true, but also I could have gotten better and this laptop is a pig, only time will tell :p

Het Guys, Its my first post here so, Hi all :)

I got a XNotebooks Palladium (a Clelvo W170ER) wich is quite nice, But I got a little problem.
When i play a game on de dGPU, wich is a GT650m 1Gb DDR5. I got my FPS "locked" @ 200 on 1920x1080. No matter what game I play, its constantly locked on 200.
When I turn down my resolution, my FPS will lock a bit higher, like 320 on 1600x900.

When I play on my HD4000 iGPU there is no such FPS limit.

Does anybody here have that some problem? Or want to try it?

I used to play CoD4 competetive, so I'd like to play that on 250fps op 1920x1080, wich I know for sure this laptop can reach that.

    Thanks

Th screen refresh rate is 60Hz as far as I know, so 60+ FPS will not make a difference.

Well there is a big different in playing CoD with 30/60/125/250/333 FPS. The point is, is that I used to play cod competetive and I play it on 250 FPS normally, but I cant right now..

There is a big difference even if refresh is only 60Hz because the data is being processed more quickly and still displayed with v-sync off, just it may not look pretty at times due to the out of sync fps to refresh.

I'm having the same problem with my Clevo. Low FPS in TF2, but the card hits proper benchmark numbers in 3D Mark 2011 for example.

    If I run TF2 with -dxlevel 81, then I get the performance I'm expecting - 150-200 FPS @ 1080p. Without dxlevel, it runs with DX9 and it gets 40-60 FPS @ 1080p.

I'll be playing with -dxlevel 81 until NVidia releases new drivers :(

I have problems with the current drivers too. Dragon Age 2 crashes in Direct X 11 mode, meaning I can't run the game in anything above 'medium'. Annoying!

These are still beta drivers though. I don't know why it's taking so long for NVIDIA to get proper WHQL drivers out for the 600M series!

You've been missing for a long time cakefish, wassup? I have been experiencing the same thing. The card limits fps to 200, 320 in 1600:900. I think it has something to do with power though. Anyone try out the 304.92 drivers yet from laptopvideo2go?

Hey guys! New to the website, but I am having issues with my laptop. Samsung Series 7 Chronos 17-inch | Notebook Reviews is the laptop. I have downloaded the latest nvidia driver from samsung.com driver for this specifc laptop as well as the intel HD driver. Something is still wrong because I am receiving very low fps on games with even low settings. In furmark, I receive a score of 614 with the resolution at 1920x1080 and AA:0. Thats depressing. At 1280x720 and AA:0 I only get a max of 19fps. The renderer: GeForce GT 650M/PCIe/SSE2 (10DE-0FD1) drivers: 8.15.10.2618 (1-5-2012) - GL:ig7icd64.dll clocks: GPU core: 835 MHz, memory: 2000 MHz. Any information would be greatly apreciated.

Make sure Furmark is set to use the GT 650m in the nVidia control panel, otherwise it's just using the intergrated HD 4000 which would result in the low scores.

hi, i intend to buy a dell inspiron 17r special edition that comes with this graphic card (NVIDIA GT 650M 2g DDR5) and a i7 processor, i would like to know if with this system i can play the sims 3 + all the expansion packs with settings in high, i also play walking dead and ragnarok but these two last games don't seem to require much capacity because i play them with my current laptop (which has an integrated gpu), the only game that cant be played with it it´s Sims 3 God knows why. Is this graphic card (NVIDIA GT 650M) good enough???

Hey all. Been ridiculously busy these past few months - last year of uni including the dissertation, need I say more?

Anyhoo, I've got the latest NVIDIA 310.54 beta drivers and Windows 8 so I'll try and get round to seeing how performance compares to my previous benchmarks ASAP.

    Cheers! :)

I have 310.54 drivers. They seem to be fine. I don't overclock like crazy but i can go over the 135mhz thx to Prema modded bios for Clevos.

I get P3000 by clocking my 650M GT at 1100mhz core and 2500mhz memory. That's without cpu turbo so four cores only at base clocks 2,2ghz. The gpu doesn't even break 70°C.

I got P2900 with same clocks with older drivers so there's improvement.

Yes, but now I'm undervolted. Will run overvolt later and let you know. I'm running ~ 1.000V at 1050MHz. 1100MHz is a bit unstable.

With OC and OV on my last W110ER before I bricked my mobo, it was running over 1300MHz at ~ 1.1V I believe. Something like P3300 3DMark11.

Seems like 650M GT ddr3 and ddr5 models are scoring the same in performance 720p bench. Would be interesting to bench the 1080p extreme mode. theoretically, the ddr5 should fly away.

It should be about 10-15% improvement. It's quite limited by the 128-bit bus.
