I played this quite a bit at E3 and it's great. Very realistic-feeling controls and physics and it's quite challenging, but very rewarding. The graphics are top notch.

Dang this game looks great, can't wait for it to come out!
-
I like to call it "Try before you buy"
hate buying games and then they don't run properly. -
Running like aboe crap on my 9300m gs lol gotta wait for my 9600 to turn up..
amazing car list! Lambo Reventon is even in there! Classic RS CosworthBugatti Veyron....
wish my card would hurry up -
And the first race is at Brands Hatch, my hometown!
-
just played it, overrated, nothing special - at all.
-
So you thought GTR was crap as well?
-
It's okay so far. The HUD isn't the best I've seen though...
-
-
I like it a lot so far. The presentation is slick, it runs well, and it's highly immersive, even though I don't prefer the "cockpit" view.
My only complaint so far would be that you can't toy around with any of the faster cars at first, not even in the "quick race" mode. -
I rather da tuner/street racing scene it has more of a storyline and more to offer da nascar scene is kinda boring
-
-
You have to 'earn' your cars, which is a pain but it makes the storyline fun, but it'll be a while...
Kinda like getting the F1 vehicles in GT5, anyone got a few million?
So far, not many complaints yet, though I only got a few races in, in about an hour.
OH, and one more thing, the Logitech G25 doesn't always play nice with it and once I switched from the G25 to the PS3 controller, it didn't want to switch back and I had to restart the PS3. *shrug* -
Hmmm, loading times don't seem too bad to me, maybe because I'm playing it on my PC? I actually like the HUD, it isn't distracting, but I guess in your case that's a double-edged sword.
I still wish they'd late you take one of the faster cars for a spin right away, so that I could experience that epic sense of speed all the reviewers have been raving about. Most racing games give you that option in the exhibition mode. -
Love it! Graphics are beautiful, the cars react and handle like the real ones, and FINALLY, a default cockpit view. I can't stand chase cams.
Overall, this is my favorite racing sim to come out. Great job guys!
I think most of the people who don't like this game are those who enjoy the auto tranny, chase cam, does everything for you kinda games. This is a simulator, not an arcade game. -

So this game has no automatic transmission?! Oh well, that would be weird if it doesn't.
I like Forza 2 would this appeal to me do you think, after playing it? -

Isnt it possible to drive from a far camera rather than camera inside car?
I really hate driving like that. -

Only played for an hour and here's a few early screenshots in replay mode.

I think it defaults to an automatic transmission, which makes the name of the game that much more ironic.
And yes, you can use the "chase" view. You get the most frames when you use the perspective that doesn't show you any aspect of your car, though. It's too low for me though, so I prefer either the "hood" or "cockpit" view. Everything is a tad clearer with the former(and slightly better performance), but the latter is more immersive.
I'm really digging the game so far, and it's giving me that weird feeling that only good racing games seem capable of. -
Ok so being a racing driver and playing the game, here are my thoughs:
There was sooo much hype considering this game. Ultra huge budget with plenty of racing stars hyping the game. Does it live up to its expectation!? .... well ... no, but that doesnt mean its a bad game.
First ... handling. The only view you can play in this game is the cockpit view. why!? every other view doesnt give you any feedback at all about whats the car doing. Unless your looking for a totally arcade game which NFS Shift can be. The cockpit view is the only camera to go for and it actually feels a bit realistic. Its still a bit arcady but its a huge step up form the previous NFS games. It is the most realistic NFS game ever. Still its a long way behind GT or forza though. Thats also how the game feels. It knows its not forza or GT so its all about fun, and you can have plenty of it here.
Its been a long time since PC had a more realistic street car type racing game. GTR and LFS are awesome but it can get boring driving race prepped or not real cars. NFS Shift brings the whole fun back. If you own a 360 or PS then I would suggest you wait for forza/GT. If you re on PC then your stuck with Shift, which isnt bad at all.
My final verdict is 8/10.
I was expecting more, but then I was comparing it to forza and GT. As a stand alone title its very good. -
guys i only have one question for ya ....is it better than grid?
that is going to be a deciding factor for my purchase lol -
The cockpit view is NOT the only view you can play in.
-
-
-
What kind of "feedback" are you referring to? I also play with all the assists off(can't stand them in ANY racing game) and have no problem with any of the views except the "chase" view.
The only thing you lose by using, say, the hood view is a little bit of the immersive quality. The graphics are otherwise clearer. -

Good, that is awesome. Wow and Forza 3 is right around the corner. These 2 games combined are probably like 300 hours of gameplay lol

NFS Shift I believe has reached the factor of perfect realism in terms of physics, AI, and handling. The Infiniti G35 handles exactly like my dads does. The camera action is phenomenal, the models perfect... I think we've reached a point in racers where the only thing that can be majorly improved on is graphics, and NFS: Shift certainly isn't lacking there. Its an absolute beautiful game. Well optimized too. Running 35-40fps on my hardware with everything maxed, 4x AA, both cores running about 90%.
