I believe I read Nv saying the 680m is up to 50% faster than 580m, so this means 680MX is up to 10% faster than a 680m, and I believe that number was thrown around before. However, they will need to redo their figures when it comes to the 12.11 drivers and 7970m, that 30% won't fly now, but 10-15% all around would not be so out of scale for marketing jibber jabber.

Actually, the 680m is twice as fast as the 580m, and the 680mx is about 15% - 20% faster than the 680m - worth every penny IMO.

Well some people in here, they still can believe it when they saw the stock 7970M to be the boss now on all benchmarks and games with the new drivers release (12.11 v4) (i dont want to say names......because we know them from all this months of BS talking)but they still posting on threads benchmarks untill now (680M vs 7970M)having 7970M with the old drivers, and not with the new ones.Anyway i think the 10% isn't enough for an excuse for somebody to throw 850$ for this 680MX ;)

Then the current marketing jibber jabber doesn't add up. You're saying 680m is up to 200%> 580m and this marketing is only saying 680MX is 160%> 580m. They are also saying the 680MX is 130%> 7970m. Yet here is Nv with that 2x marketing speak GeForce GTX 680M | GeForce Maybe they should get their story straight before running for preside....err posting marketing :D

"The fastest, most advanced mobile GPU ever built
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX leverages NVIDIA’s revolutionary new architecture to deliver up to 60% more performance than the previous generation.1 Built for speed and efficiency, the GeForce® GTX 680MX GPU outpaces the competition by up to 30%.2 Plus, NVIDIA GeForce™ drivers ensure that you’re always getting the most out of your GPU for the ultimate gaming experience.

    1 - Compared to GeForce GTX 580M
    2 - Compared to RADEON HD 7970M
3 - Optimus only available on notebooks running Windows 7 or newer - Please contact your OEM for Optimus support on specific models "

Maybe not, but it's always nice to have a Ferrari option for those that want to plunk down. I would doubt the 7970m is boss on all benchmarks and games, but it finally got unleashed.

Sounds like he told the truth since he knew exactly when its available in Alienware systems plus he knew that they are currently working on this card.

You`re right, I should have asked him about notebooks or desktops to have everything word for word, but none of their desktop have MOBILE graphic cards, and pretty much everything they offer with their desktops is way better than GTX 680MX so it wouldn`t make sense to offer that as an UPGRADE option... ;)

GTX 680M is 22% faster than 7970M in average over 15 games with max settings. That is 12.11 vs the latest driver from Nvidia. 15% if you count 1366x768 + 1600x900+1920x1080 and take the average of everything.
So yeah, that 30% with 680MX will absolutely fly now. It will perhaps fly even higher (max settings). AMD better step up their game against this behemoth ;)

I said to you what I read from the NVIDIA website. It doesn't say 200%, it says something to the extent of, "delivers up to two times the performance."

    Edit: Here's what it says...

Well to be honest, if you pull out borderlnd 2 / batman AC (PhysX) and the wierd Diablo 3 result, you get 9% in average 12 games. Wich I think is much more accurate.

I don't really want to trade my 7970M for the 680M, but the 680MX seem like a far much viable option to get rid of this enduro issue. ( 12.11 is good but far from perfect. )

Yes, I linked that in my reply. Please read again (or finish reading) and don't go thinking I am putting some type of attack on you, if I'm attacking anything, it's Nv marketing math. Since one piece of their marketing was using % (680MX), I put them both on % (680m). 2x = 200% Saying "up to 60% increase" = 1.6x

So which one do we believe, the 680m is up to 2x faster than 580m or the 680MX is up to 1.6x faster than a 580m.

Read the review. Anandtech didn`t use PhysX since he wanted to make it a fair comparison.

Yeah, there is no immediately to buy 680M now that you have the 7970M and the 12.11 driver. :)
680MX is looking pretty interesting though. Especially since some say MXM can deliver up to 200W. Im super interested to see what they can do with this beast especially when overclocked

Depends. I haven`t studied all game benchmarks but I wouldn`t be surprised if 1 or two games had 2x FPS than 580M. But of course, the average is far less than that. And they might have tested it on 900p with low details. Sneaky marketing from Nvidia :p

Ah, sure thing. No offense taken. :p

I believe they made a mistake when describing the 680MX, we've all seen that before. Only the real numbers can tell us for certain, once the GPU is released and benched! I can't wait to see what it can do.

The way I'm reading your links are this one has 680m (306.97) vs 7970m (12.9HF) and this one shows the difference of the 7970m between 12.9HF and 12.11B. Do I have your agenda correct? I give you an A for effort to make your case with the piece by piece info available from one source using Clevo's.

The games chosen will always make or break a chart and it's up to the user to research the type of games one plays. I find in that chart, AMD is winning or equal with the games I play (Sniper Elite V2, Sleeping Dogs, Dirt(s), Max Payne 3, Skyrim, BF3, Batman: AC), pretty much racing and shooting and those 8 games have a 2% advantage to 680m (that's 306.xx vs 12.9HF) and a 3.68% advantage to the 7970m if I remove Batman: AC. I believe I read Sleeping Dogs alone has reported a large increase from 12.9HF to 12.11B, haven't tested myself yet and I only went from 12.8whql to 12.11b3 anyway.

All in all, new tech is good fun to put into perspective.

Indeed, both teams guilty of marketing shennanigans :) I wonder how much of my life is spent trying to cut through the BS in this world.

Stop spinning things. 46.2 vs 42.1 is not 2% difference to take just one example (and see the 12.9 hotfix vs 12.11, BF3 went down a bit from 42.1 to 40.8. So its 46.2 vs 40.8 still not 2% ). But whatever, believe what you want.

Anandtech tested the 7970M vs the 680M with 12.9 hotfix. A driver you guys never had a chance to test out. It turns out this driver performed 2% better than the 12.11 driver you guys are using now, so this chart is what counts TODAY. Its that simple.

No its not BS. FPS results depends on what map and what area you tested the GPU on
GPU utilization is 95.4% for 7970M. Slightly under 2% below what 680M get (97.2%) which have no Optimus problems. So your HM isn`t doing any better.

But seriously, Im sick of this discussion. It is what it is.
Im out of this discussion. 100% this time. You guys are giving me a headache. Off to play some Terraria.

I respect your opinion and all your input here Cloudfire, but when it comes to Dell reps and accuracy I take it with a molecule of salt. They are not in the know, except when something is within 24-48 hours of being released or already publicly announced. Dell superpowers would not release that information especially to their reps.

And the 680MX is firmly in the discussion, I'm sorry, did you want a 680MX cheerleading only thread :p It's not spin, it's math to the game preferences of an individual gamer which is clearly stated. If that's spin, then we can say Jarred is spinning it to because of the 15 games selected. My 8 games are a completely fair representive reduction to the 15 he did. A respected reviewer, his results are not dogma.

Get a grip man and read, "those 8 games have a 2% advantage to 680m", as in add up the reported FPS of those 8 games and divide by 8 (you know, like they are doing for 15 games to get 22%), how can you not see that's what I did. That chart is what I used to get the numbers, but that chart isn't what "counts TODAY" because it is the 12.9HF chart and aren't you trying to stipulate that 12.11 lost performance to 12.9HF.

"BF3 went down a bit from 42.1 to 40.8" Dirt 3 gained 4.2% from 12.9HF to 12.11b, see I can pick one game to, even though I realize you just didn't understand what I did with the 8 game avg.

or whatever, read what you want. Don't get on your persecuted high horse, you're not ending anything.

All i see here in this topic is offtopic! The title is about 680MX and all i see is comparisions with ATI 7970 vs 680M!

So.. my question, will the 680MX be worth it?

Even with the possibility of flashing a vbios on the 680m and overclocking it?

Apparently ppl that want the 680m to clearly be better than the 7970m by some substantial % and the 680MX to trounce the 680m.

How is it off topic, clearly you didn't look very hard or long. What comparisons do you expect for the 680MX right now since all there is to evaluate from is the 7970m and 680m. So if someone just says "yes, it's worth it", that's good enough for you and your $ is allocated and no longer need to research it? How will you know at this point if it's worth it, is there even a published price?

So much garbage about 7970m vs 680m atm when the thread is about 680mx....

7970m with latest driver is on par of 680m, sure some games nvidia does better and the same for the 7970m, no 1 benchmark is 100% accurate here because it depends on games listed for the benchmark, i can create a benchmark with certain games showing that 7970m 20% faster etc

    Question is regarding 680mx

I expect it to be 20% faster otherwise nvidia wouldn't have bothered to release it, and no this is not a rebrand situation , this is a new legit card etc

Would anyone even bother paying that much to upgrade if you got 680m?

Keep your 680m and 7970m people, the real upgrade is summer 2013 with intel haswell and 780m/8970m

I'm selling my entire laptop and upgrading to Haswell/8970m or 780m next summer , Haswell is officially released between march and june of 2013 according to intel and AMD already said their next GPU releases at Q1 2013

Looking at the 670 Vs 680 desktop, hoping for a 20% gain is a bit optimistic.

The 670 was notorious for being only a hair behind the 680.

Probably because the 680/670 were bandwidth limited though. Judging by the core/bandwidth increases from the 680m to the 680mx, the performance increase should be at least 15% at 1080p.

How are the 680/670 even remotely bandwidth limited at 1080p.

One mans garbage is another mans treasure, it's all information to be read by someone that may find it useful or interesting. If someone is holding a gun to your head making you read it, call 911.

Some ppl clearly don't believe your second sentence and it all provides a base in which to discuss the 680MX. It's all speculation, guessing, wishful thinking and jibber jabber on the 680MX right now.
I think you clearly under estimate Nv on that 4th sentence, they'd be happy to sell a card that does 5% better for 20% more cost. Look at the cost/perf difference on the desktop 680 vs 670.

They are mostly ROP bound actually, something the 670 and 680 share. They linearly scale with core clocks because the ROP speed is also increasing.

Nvidia would have dropped the 680M core clock a bit more and attached regular voltage ram if it made such an impact to get the most bang per watt.

Agreed. If money is tight, I would wait. The 680M's price should decrease, unless they make the 680MX more than the 680M, which would be quite ridiculous, but I could see that happening...

Either way, wait a month to see what happens. :)

At 1920x1200, I've seen what kind of bottleneck my GPU faces at the moment. Need to update the sig but I'm not running the 7970M anymore, back to a 6970M. :p

The 6970M is bottlenecked by it's memory bandwidth, especially at only 115.2GB/s. For 1GB of Vram that's plenty, more than plenty, but for 2GB that's hardly enough... so I am to believe. >.>

If it hasn't been publicly announced, Dell reps don't know either. Dell reps are sales people, they'll tell you what you want to hear.

I'm sure once the new iMac is available the 680MX will be available elsewhere. Apple seems to have gotten it specially ordered for the release of their new product, so they have first dibs.

In other words, Apple pre-ordered them, ha ha! :p

Btw, contacted alienware support, they had never even heard of the gtx680mx, and had no record in their system of it, and recommended "checking back later"

This reminds me of when I was trying to figure out if you could locally buy unlocked iPhone 5s in Canada.
I asked like 5 different support people, who all said yes, even though apple had announced they would only be online.

Also shows the difference between small and big companies.

I asked Ken when the 680mx was first announced and he did not know, so he told me he didn't know.

Alienware support just makes stuff up or doesn't understand, it seems.

I spoke with Xotic PC today, as well as Dell, and both of them seem to have very little optimism for the 680MX being available for PC in general. I hope they're wrong, I don't see why NVIDIA would do that if they could expand the market for this GPU and make more money on it, but you never know. I'm also getting tired of waiting... :( The temptation is killing me! I want to buy an Alienware with the 680MX already!

P.S. Yes, I did see the chat log in this thread about a Dell rep stating the 680MX would be available by the end of November, but the three reps I've spoken with this week claim they have no idea (you'd think they'd know, right? Oh come on!) or don't expect it to be available. As I said above, I hope they're wrong!

I too was really hoping for the 680mx cards for Clevo's but its looking very unlikely at this point, even Origin PC stated its exclusive to Imac only :-(

We're just months away from beginning to hear about the 780M and 8970M anyway. Why get excited for the 680MX?

Impossible to keep up with this technology anyways, as of right now 2 680m cards in Sli should be able to run the latest games on MAX settings for at least 2 years. :)

I doubt it at 120hz 1080p max details or hooked up to a 2560x1400 display.
