can you undervolt the GPU with this ?

because mine is overclocked at 50% and runs good .. though people have overclocked the core at 75% too  I'm using RivaTuner for the purpose. 3DMark06 is at 2300 now (stock is like 1600 I think).

    stock is 400/600 core/memory

I run 600/900 with no problem. Another guy went up to 701/955 and didn't report problems either :)

    The 140m?

if that is a 9800m or 8800m rebrand then you should go to 635 935 1550 no prob, if you want to shoot higher then go for 650 950 1600. That should satisfy any game.

Does nvFlash support 9 series cards like the 9800M GS?

    Hi bigspin,
the computer can boot, because i can see HDD light activity, and I can ear the welcome sound on windows, but no image at all.

My computer comes with ati hd3470 256mb, but I bought a 8600m gt from a friend, and it was running ok on a Tsunami=Compal FL-90, and the problem is that friend lives 300kms from here :(.

If I took off the 8600m gt and put the ati it runs ok, but with the 8600m gt only a black screen!!!

I tryed blind flashing from usb. this is what I type "nvflash Acer.8600MGT.512.070423.bin -4 -5 -6"

When i do that i can see activity in my usb light for about 1 second, after that, 2 or 3 beeps...

First of all, before I flashed the 8600 I backup the rom before, like this "nvflash -b backup.rom" and he creates a backup from my original rom, but it has 0kb.

Do you think 5920g is capable to flash the 8600m gt?

    thanks

You can flash 8600M GT . Try to find original AS5920G 8600M GT BIOS file (Search NBR acer forum for it).

& make sure you have enough space to save your backup bios file.

Before you do any thing remember to backup original 8600M GT BIOS ROM file.

are you sure, this is the file im trying to upload to my 8600mgt but no success.

    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/1742/Acer.8600MGT.512.070423.html

im gonna try to find another one now.

that short beeps i think it was error beeps don you think?

this was my steps that i took from another forum:

    1. download hp boot key and create a bootable usb

    2. download nvflash

    3. download 8600M GT bios

    4. extract nvflash to root drive of flash drive, copy also the bios in the root drive
    5. restart pc and in bios set flash drive as boot drive (F12 key usually)

    6. on command prompt type "nvflash -b backup.rom', now you have a backup bios file named backup.rom

    7. on command prompt type "nvflash Acer.8600MGT.512.070423.bin -4 -5 -6", wait for it dont touch nothin till it finishes up

but this is for 5520 i think

It's 8600M GT 256MB DDR2 card, but will work with 512Mb DDR2 version without any error.

Ok someone told me there was another option in my bios and I changed it and now I can boot just fine although I have run into another problem. When I try to backup my bios or flash the new one on I get this error, "Load Error: no DPMI memory"

Any ideas? I know other people with my laptop have done this painlessly. I have tried v5.50 and v5.72 of nvflash btw

    EDIT:

After doing a bit of searching I have come up with the answer that 640k of ram allocated for the boot key is not good enough to load up the nvflash program and there is a way to extend the memory, but I just cannot get it. I guess I will wait for some help...

Ok sorry to take up your time. What happened is I made the boot disk and didn't know that it hides the files on the key so it looks like nothing is on it so I copied the XP files over manually and it mucked things up so what I did was just re-make the bootkey and everything works fine. My temps are BLAZING hot (93C in an intense stress test), but I flashed back to my regular bios and got the same temps in the same test so I am going to keep the GTS bios on here which gives me a serious boost in my games and seems to be rock solid. Thanks for the guide you rock!

Hi, bigspin could you please give the link of best bios for the 8600M GT 256MB DDR2 on Acer 5920 g(I have same 256 mb ddr2 card ). U said "8600M GT 256MB DDR2 card, but will work with 512Mb DDR2 version without any error." is the opposite of the situatio is possible? Can we assume a 512mb acer bios could be used for a 256mb card without any error as well? Thanks.

I flashed my Dell D800 notebook computer with Dell's NVIDIA 4200 video bios software instead of the 5200 bios and now I don't have any video on the screen or the video port. Is there a way to make a bootable CD using NVFLASH to load the correct bios? If so how, and where can I get the correct 5200 bios flash code?

is the system passing post or not ?

the beeps indicate its not passing post and there is a issue with your gpu and that is happening because it does not recognize the GPU.

thats easily fix-able if you can tell me if it passes post

you will need to blindly set it to boot off the USB drive

then do a blind flash to the stock bios

The original 9500m GS partially fried last week so I bought a 9650m and I have modded the bios swapping the module from M50v bios.
The laptop boot and the gpu it's recognised from win 7 but I have only a problem, the fan now work always at the max speed. If I install the 9500m the fan work normally with this modded bios. What can I do?
If somebody want take a look here there are the bioses: bios.rar

I guess it is. Apparently my laptop is fitted with the proprietary Reverse MXM design used by ASUS (mostly in G-Series notebooks, which I have). From what I can gather, some models do not come equipped with the vBIOS (that data is in the System BIOS).

    What now?

Without a dedicated vBIOS you can't create backup.(sometimes it work). You need to use software solution to OC the VGA. BTW Is there enough space left in your boot drive(Pen drive)?

There's NO way I can do this? Not even without backing it up? (Yes, I know it's risky.)

And yes, there's room. My flash drive is 8GB.

    UPDATE

I found a whole thread dedicated to overclocking the G50vt's, so it must be possible on mine. (I have a G50vt-X5).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/336013-g50vt-9800m-gs-overclocking.html

This must be some error exclusive to me, since I can't find anyone in the thread with the same problem.

    UPDATE #2
I uploaded a picture of the error, maybe there's some useful info on that page.

From the image I posted, it looks like I do have a vBIOS, it just doesn't want to copy. :(
