To tell you the truth my performance is pretty weak! Spent 2 hours last night tweaking and fiddling following some instructions and Im still barely getting 20fps with the stock planes. Luckily my bf wasnt round because hed be even more mystified why i spent 2 hours not playing a game that he cant see the point of!!!

A, I really don't see that 20 fps is bad at all... if you are in a big city, for me it is very nice. I've ordered a x9100 to try to get close to it.

Anyway, good luck with your tweaks, I'm sure there's lot that we can do to optimize this beast...

After several hours of messing around I raised from 20 to a steady 30 even with add-on aircraft and lots of scenery - just goes to show its possible if you can be bothered!

If you don't mind, could you tell us what you have done to get this 10 fps increase?

Was it on windows or FSX?

A bit of both actually, got rid of all unnecessary startups and other processes in Windows 7 (google NickN's guide to Windows 7 setup for this).

Also fiddled with the fsx.cfg file (search for Jesus's tweaks)

Between the 2 and about 3 hours faffing around it really made a differance.

It`s really impressive, good work, A.

I`ll try it today, it`s a major hollyday here in Brasil (Indepedence Day), and I guess my wife will not complain of 3 hours tweaking win and fsx, not flying....ahahahaha

I think i only did the first 2/3 of the training missions and then gave up - definitely havent mastered anything!

I can take-off and land most things (apart from helicopters) without killing myself but I think id fail most of the check rides - I know i never understood the one on NDBs and VORs

    I never did those tutorials.

I just start flying, but I deal with aviation for a long time, in maintenance and as 727 Flight Engineer, so it was a litlle bit easy to begin with.

And by the way, I only like to fly NDB and VOR!!! That`s the fun of navigation, old style!

About the tweaks, I failed. I`m not so good at computers at all. I`ll try again sometime.

After upgrade to a X9100, it increases 10 to 15 fps, where I only had 7 or less...

Now I can use some traffic and wheater, and others ultra-high.

I'm trying to get more 5 fps ovcking the gpu and with some tweaks in FSX.

    What a really damanding game...

Hope MS FLIGHT will be more light...

Flight Sim X is a piece of c**p on multicores. xD
If it only supported and used more cores efficiently.

One of my friends owns a copy of FSX and a bunch of plane addons, so im thinking of testing it on my Asus once i get it.
(9 days until paycheck, cant wait!.)

Hes playing on a old AMD Turion 64 (65nm) with a Nvidia Geforce 7200m IGP.
Needless to say it runs pretty slow but at least you dont need 60+ fps on that game. ;D

Yes, for me 30 fps is good enough.

20 fps is fair too. And it only decrease fps when you are turning, in a high scenery city. \

I don`t play other games, so I don`t understand why someoone desires more thans 30 fps.

Movies in Pal is 25 fps and in ntsc. 29.9 fps, and I never seen nobody complaing, even in high movement scenes.

    Maybe someone can explain better.

Only games with fast movement like FPS and racing games benefit from 60 fps, anything higher wont show up on a 60 Hz screen thats usually fitted on every notebook.

    Hey all,

I am having a FS2004 problem. The sim doesnt have any adjustability. I go into Display Settings and everything is locked, grayed out, will not adjust, and everything is set at zero.

I am running an Alienware laptop, M9700 with AMD 64 Turion, dual SLI nVidia Go 7900 GS graphics cards, 2 Gigs of DDR 1 RAM, (cant go to 4 as they never made a 2 Gig DDR1 stick), and running Windows XP. I have FS9 mounted on E: drive (laptop has dual HD's also). I have fresh, new 500 Gig high RPM HD's, fresh clean install of Windows, newest DX 9.0c.

I have tried all graphics drivers, from nVidia to Alienware. I have reinstalled FS2004 to C: drive, that didnt do it, reinstalled back to E: drive, same thing, no sliders ability.

The Laptop runs FS2004 really nice, at 60 to 70 FPS, but its locked at zero settings, so everything basically looks horrible and fuzzy, not special effects, etc. I installed FSX and it runs fine with high sliders providing about 30 FPS with drops to 20 FPS.

I have tried SLI 'off' to see if that unlocked the sliders. Nothing...

Anyone have an idea why the sliders are locked on FS2004? I really love this sim and bought this used Alienware just for running this sim on.

Many thanks for any help and input. Thanks also for starting an FS thread. I just read through all the posts. Good stuff.

    Happy flying,

    LH

You can edit settings directly in the fs9.cfg.

    Hey Ayle,

I tried that. As a matter of fact, it hit me, to try and see if the FS9 config file would work from my large desktop computer which has the settings I would like. I copied that into my FS9 on the Alienware, renaming the FS9 config that was already there to Backup. I booted up FS9 and it was still locked at zero settings.. As a matter of fact, this time it was in 800X600 resolution.

    Wierd, eh?

One thing you could try is delete the FS9.cfg file all together, and let it regenerate a new one when you boot up FS9.

Be sure to have the SLI off as well.

    Hey Othonda,

I did try the ole FS9 config rebuild thing several times, but didnt think to do this with the SLI disabled. Good idea.

When I first installed FS9 on it, the SLI wasnt enabled yet, but who knows, this just may work.

    Thanks for the idea.

You have a weird problem on your hands, never have heard of it before. I usually scan the FS forums daily and have not seen this. You could try and post this in either the FS2004 or graphics card/driver forum over at Avsim, if my suggestion does not help.

    Anyone has tryed X PLANE?

I download de demo version 9 and like it very much.

Very light (although not really much scenery, but animals crossing the runway, etc).

Fly dynamics very diferent from FSX.

I flew a Cessna 172 and wow, that was amazing.

People say it`s more realistic, I hope so, cause I fly a 727 in FSX (captain sim) it realy lacks much of reality, IMHO.

I ordered today and when it arrives I can tell better.

Please share your opinions and experiences.

I have XP9 (X-Plane) and loved it, but it doesnt have good AI traffic, like planes and air traffic control.

The new XP10 is going to be amazing. Austin, who built the platform and has a huge team working on the new version 10 is putting in new AI ATC (air traffic control) and some new planes. It will have more features, bump mapping, wet runways in the rain, etc. He states it will blow the doors off of FSX, and it will run smooth.

Some of the screenshots of it look fantastic. They look 'real'...

I`m flying the demo, and it`s impressive how light it is. My cores temp is below 60C and one processor is at 70 % and the other is 55%. Everything maxed out.

    Incredible frame rates!!!!!!!!!!!

The gpu is at 70C, which makes me believe that this sim is more gpu oriented than fsx.

Nices mountains, trees, animals crossing the runway at T/O...

Buildings well made...I`m really enjoyng it.

Bad points are that the aircraft are not as detailed and beatifull than fsx and the terrain is low detailed.

No virtual cockpit in most of aircafts of the demo.

Only the cirrus has decent virtual cockpit

And you can fly on Mars!!!!!!

    Nice tip, thanxs.

    Ive already have for FSX.

The advantage of REX for X PLANE is that you wont notice the amoous of fps it takes as you notice in FSX.

IDK abiut others but my FPS actually went up when i installed rex 0_0.

Runs great on a 5650 with i5 450m. Get around 25 fps with a PMDG on ground and around 30-40 in the air. Every other airctafr is 40-60.

Most settings are on high, but iv tweaked it quite a bit.
Does anyone know how to make the keyboard more fluid? moving with the keyboard is garbage, not accurate one bit. I wish i could hook up my ps3 controller but stupid 64 bit driver signature.

    CruiseX,

You need a proper Saitek control stick rig, like the X-52 with seperate throttle quad.

Although I don`t have this Saitek (but I wish it), I have a Thrustmaster joystick, and is far better than keys and is not expensive.

Nice, get some flights and tell us about!!!

By the way, I`m trying to get a little more from FSX, and I really want to know where I am.

So, if you guys could say some informations. like:

    Which city are you flying;

Is it default or addon? Photoreal?

What settings are you using? (slidebars, AA, etc)?

How many frame rates are you getting (on app, over city, etc.) min/max?

    What are your rig?

Any other information you judge usefull.

Thanks a lot, I guess this information will be helpfull to everybody.

What hardware/software do you play FSX with?

What are your addons and configuration settings for FSX?

Anyone here of the new title speculations for the next sim?

I use FSX with TrackIR5 and an Xbow PC controller.

I run the game on max resolution and settings with medium air ground and sea traffic.

I only seem to get low performance around Hong Kong city.

I just ordered a m17x for the purpose of FSX and Civilization V.

    Have the dual 5870's and 6gb ram & a 740qm quad core @ 1.73.

I am worried that the processor may be too slow to run FSX at high settings with the slow clock speed it has.

I wouldnt worry - its should do ok at high but not very high settings, especially if you remove road traffic and dial down the autugen density a little.

i have the m17xr2 with dual 4870's 720qm and 4gb ram and i play fsx on high setting just fine. I cant get it past 30fps though if i have scenery settings on high. perhaps i should upgrade my drivers or cpu but idk.

your new m17x should handle it all on high no problem.

I use REX and some addon sceneries.

    I fly mostly capsim 727.

I've been using some realy usefull utilities, as FSBOOSTER and FSManager.

I use FPS LIMITER too, I set unlimeted in FSX and limits a 30 with FPS LIMETER. Very good utilitie.

I'll never have to tweek again, FSbooster takes care of it and it really increased my FPS.

I'm flying Rio de janeiro photoreal, impressive scenerie and very demanding, with 20 to 30 FPS. (With a cessna 172. With the 727 it drops consistenly, in certain points with a lot of autogen being seeing, it drops to 12 - 14. Id like to mention that for bush flyng in a heavy scenerie, it is better a light aircraft for the sightseeing and for the Frame rates).

FSmanager is very good too, you can do whatever you like in FSX in another screem.

I saw the screenshots from FLIGHT and I think FSX with some addon sceneries and aircrafts, with REX, are even better.

I hope at least it will be not so demanding on hardware.

I'm running with everything maxed out, minus traffic, weather, boats, car, etc.

    Core2duo X9100 at 3,6 Ghz, 4 G DDR 3, 1900 X 1200 screen, nvidia 9800M GTS.

This thread is awfully quiet... If anyone is interested, Microsoft as poster new screenshots of Flight, available here. There are new screenshots for xplane 10, which look extremely promising. There is also a trailer available here.

I just bought a Origin 17 with dual 485m's and 990X 3.46GHZ 6 core Extreme processor. 12 GB ram with 512 GB SSD.

How do you think this will run FSX? Thanks!

It should be ok, I wouldn't worry too much.

No offense, but is that a joke? That system can pretty much run anything, maybe even metro DX11 4xAA very high at playable fps.

Only thing you have to worry about is the weight and heat.
