This thread is too quiet, guess I have to bring it back to life again :)

I haven't touched FS9 or FSX for almost 2 years now, because I've been studying and using a lowly su4100 cpu in my older Acer 1810tz.

I've now bought the 3830TG with a sandy bridge cpu, so I might try fs9 or fsx again.

I wanted to ask if you guys have tried FSX with Sandy Bridge cpus? How are your results?

Well since no one answered, I'll answer myself :p

So far I've only tried FS9 with REX installed, and it's flawless :) I locked the fps at 30, and it's buttersmooth with max sliders.

However, I still haven't tried FSX, because I don't have the guts... or maybe because I don't want to be disapponited :)

It's so nice to play with max sliders and no stutters, though I'd really like to play FSX instead with improved graphics, especially the crisper textures. Maybe the newer "jesus altuve" tweaks on Avsim will make a difference?

I could never get FSX to run without crashing or some annoying bugs, but that's just me. I'm waiting for MS Flight to get my FS fix now...

FSX was the Vista of Flight Sims...MS F will *hopefully* be the Windows 7...

Must admit that im starting to tire of FSX, i seem to spend more time tweaking graphics settings than actually flying!

My Clevo P170HM with Intel Core i7 2720QM and AMD Radeon HD 6970m managed 15 fps in Heatrow Airport with all the setting dragged to the max and using 1920x1080.

I play FSX with EVERYTHING, TOTALLY MAXED, all sliders to max at 1080p, DX10, Bloom, etc on, with my 40FPS cap on, and I get 40 FPS :D Yay :D

Clear weather with SP2 applied. xD
I just slided all the options i saw to its limit, max traffic and all that stuff.

Using regular high settings its probably more playable.

Exactly. I spent more time trying to get FSX to work and run right than flying. It came to a point where I just gave up.

I followed the best installation and tweaking guides and the game was still extremely buggy and would crash randomly for no reason, this happened on two different systems I ran FSX on.

    Pretty much this.

Saving up for a i7 2600K, a GTX570, and a crap load of RAM. God I hope this is powerful enough for Flight.

Think about it this way. I only bought FSX when I could afford a computer with a duo core and a go 7600 graphic card, now I still struggle to run it on a G71 with a GTX260m.
But as the years go by I enjoy FSX more as the computers advance enough to run it decently.

I am thinking about getting the M14x. It's smaller that my G71, I would like a laptop for FSX that is just as powerfull and has a battery life more than 40 min.

I belive that with a i5 cpu and the gt555 with a mild overclock say to 14,000 3dmark 06 that it would run FSX with at least 27 fps with good quality.

I didn't think that the gpu's mattered as much as the cpu's, in this particular program, since it's HEAVILY cpu based? At least, that's what I've read on flight sim boards. Seems reasonable since my cards hardly warm up, and their fans stay on low, the whole time I'm flight simming.

Put in Crysis 2, and I can blow dry my hair with my gpu fan.

With regard to the Microsoft Flight website, it doesn't look very promising since it has been up for 10.5 months with absolutely no definitive news about what the product will be or when it will be available. Someone wrote earlier that it would be out at the end of this year. Where did that info come from or is there updated info from Microsoft somewhere else?

X-Plane 10 graphics don't look particularly good. I admire their realistic simulation of flight dynamics but if the world doesn't look somewhat real it totally kills the flight sim experience for me.

Plus, then you have to download like 80GB of terrain data if you want the whole world in nice detail, which really isn't that nice, it's accurate, but not nice...

There hasn't been any pictures of XP10 yet. The only things released so far were the pictures and videos of the default planes running in XP9. Let's not get into a XP vs FS fight shall we? :D But what do you define as a real? Those 70GB of data comes as part of the installation discs and they include mostly elevation data, not textures and the like; that's what custom sceneries are for.

FSX is more user friendly and has a bigger community. I'd just wait until MS Flight though.

Although FSX isn't too bad with Service Pack 2.

I'm not convinced of the ridiculously high requirements quite yet... I can't help but think they are trying to cater to casual users as well as the normal FS fans... so have to hope that it's a bit more performance friendly.

But hardly anything has been announced about it other than a few quick videos and screenshots that I can find... we shall see!

Also excited about X-plane 10! Looking forward to both of these.

be77solo I didn't knew they gonna release MS Fligh so fast, thought about it being released earliest somewhere in the 4Q of 2012. Now my plans are in jeopardy. I'm currently thinking about buying PMDG 737NGX for FSX, but reading your news, which are both good and bad, thinking about postponing my purchase, since I'm gonna change to new sim with 90% probability.

I have the PDMG 747 and enjoy it, but it lowers my framerate down, so I have to reduce my scenery details when flying it. Cannot use the PDMG on my M11xr1.

Release date depends on where you look ha... I wouldn't count on anything. I've read as soon as October or November this year to pushed to 2012 and maybe later. Microsoft is being very quiet on any information about the release, not really sure why... Either development is nearing completion and they are releasing all info at once, or it's really early on an there's simply nothing to release. They are sporadically updating the Flight website with short videos and screenshots, which look great and complete in my opinion, but beyond that not much else... Tons of guessing in the Flight forums but nobody really knows... If it does come out this year Microsoft is beta testing in house and nobody is talking. I say get the addon you want... nobody really has a clue except Microsoft, and they aren't saying.

I probably gonna get NGX in September, I'm on holidays visiting my parents and can't transfer money to my PP account :(. I doubt that Flight gonna have very realistic plane system simulation, unless PMDG themselves gonna do it. Also it's gonna take some time till quality crafts going to make it to Flight... But this MS strategy is killing me and everyone else. I mean is that really so hard to tell everyone what to expect. Personally I don't even read those forums regarding MSF, so much speculation without a solid proof. Some say that there won't be no ATC, flight planner and that MSF going turn into arcade... I'm already having nightmares...

yes, I have tried, very nice but to see the improvements you have to have a really powerfull system, the more cores the better, as I have check, the cpu clock speed is not as important as the number of cores.
Austin have coded x-plane 10 with multicores in mind. You can have AI aircrafts running in a core each, for example.
The 747 is very nice, but my system can't handle it with a decent fps, so I gave up.
    The clouds are fantastic too.
I thing it is worth download the demo and check it out.

Another thing, Carenado already has some GA to x-plane, now Aerosoft is making the move.

I expect that PMDG and others will come too, as X-PLANE now has good eye candy, or better, than FSX and the flight model is far superior than the latter.
