"They are either hijacked Steam Accounts or opened with stolen credit cards."
What an ignorant statement.
Way to generalize a whole niche, with no facts or evidence.
Either way I don't see how they will "close" down accounts even after they said in that same post "ebay and paypal are not going to help us"
Anyways thanks for the info, crash.

There was a big thread over at www.hardforum.com from a guy who bought CoD5 off of Ebay for Steam. The seller gifted him the game, he recieved it and downloaded it... and a week or two later his account was deactivated. Apparently the game was bought most likely with a stolen/illegal credit card, and of course he got blamed. It sucked because that was his actual account where he had bought a lot of games legally directly from Steam.
Anyways, it's definitely something to be aware of. -
If you buy someone else's steam account, you are at their mercy. Sometimes it will be a honest transaction where someone will provide you all the info, etc and never attempt to reacquire it, etc. If that's the case, Steam/Valve, etc will never know. Same thing for buying WoW Accounts and other stuff that it tied to a different owner. If all goes well, you have nothing to worry about. But the fact is, it is against policy, and if you encounter a problem, and you stuff getted banned, removed, you can't blame anyone but yourself. the risk, although small, still exists.
-
) I will make a new account for them, just because I know there can be a small chance, but a chance of them closing it. So For the games that I did buy individually, I want them safe.

Thanks. -

- Many deals expired, Dark Sector still 50% off even though deal was supposed to be only until the 22nd

Interesting on the Might and Magic sale...
You can buy each one of the three Heroes of Might and Magic V for $5...or you can buy the pack of all three for $13...
You can buy Dark Messiah for $5...
And here's where it gets interesting...you can buy all four of the above for $20...
BUT if you buy just the HoMM V pack and then Dark Messiah, it's $18 ($13+$5) instead of $20...*scratching head*...
It's like when you find brand new games at Gamestop that are cheaper than the 'Previously Played' versions.... -
I got Zeno clash half off and the Heroes V pack for 12 bucks. Sweet.

Just slightly off topic... BUT...
Impulse ( www.impulsedriven.com) appears to be doing the weekend sale now, too...the coming war between Impulse and Steam is a sure-fire winner for the consumer...
Impulse
Elven Legacy $10 ($30 on Steam)
Supreme Commander Gold $20
Aztaka $18.50
AI War: Fleet Command $15
Space Rangers 2 Complete $20
Sword of the Stars Complete $16 ($16 on Steam...now it's your preference of digital delivery platform)
Impulse seems to treat gamers a little better, too (although I've never had problems with Steam, and Steam has a bunch of my money now)...though not quite as good as gog.com... -
Does Impulse digital distribution stay tied to your account like steam? or is it basically a download manager -- where each time you download it from Impulse there is a charge/fee?
-
I scrolled through just the first page, but... is anyone else disappointed that it's not really Might & Magic V, but Heroes Of Might & Magic V, that's not offer?
-
From experience: More of the first, but not exactly like Steam...tied to your registered e-mail account vs a Steam account, which I guess is somewhat trivial. Impulse will allow you to install the same game (most games) to multiple machines as long as you are not using them simultaneously (eg, multiplayer...it would be hard to be a single person playing the same game on multiple PCs simultaneously, but I've heard some of the WoW addicts are doing that). The Impulse client does not necessarily start when you launch a game as does the Steam client (eg, single-player, offline). -
-
I bought Titan Quest through Impulse for a friend when they had it on sale for $4 or something ridiculous... I remember it as being like Steam, you downloaded the game via the Impulse client and would open the game from it... although I don't remember if it actually opened if you clicked a shortcut to it.

They are really trying to push Xeno Clash, isnt this the 2nd time it had a huge sale?
I looked it up because when I saw "Xeno" I though XenoGears, but it looks like a crap game. -
However, the Impulse client does not launch when you click a shortcut to a game...at least in my limited experience...but I never play multi-player either...multi-player may use the Impulse client...
I bought Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilizations 2 at a brick and mortar...downloaded Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds: Survivor from Impulse...also downloaded the micro-expansion (Entrenchment) for SoSE...none of those shortcuts launch the Impulse client...
Additionally, I get to choose where Impulse installs the game unlike Steam...
But it's not an EITHER Steam OR Impulse...it's more of an AND for me...I have both...enjoy both...and between those two sites and gog.com, I don't really care if Gamestop stops carrying PC games... -

There is also the EA Downloader thing, I had to use it for BF2142
I may be screwed by now, have nto played that game in a long time and remember reading they changed there policy from holding your download for life, down to 2 years, and after 2 years you have to pay like $15 or $5 or something to reactivate your download.
I really hope they changed that by now as that was very low & dirty. -
Nope, you still only get a year or two in order to download from EA.... best thing to do is get the download and back it up somewhere, whether that's to an external hard drive or burning a DVD, to avoid paying extra to redownload it later.

I got fallout 3 for 25 bucks during the xmas sale last year and I must say it a must play. Great game!
-
1. I just spent a bunch of money on my desktop build
2. I have several games from past Steam deals that I haven't played or finished yet
I think I'm going to have to pass on this one -
The key is to say 'I will wait for x game to go on sale before I buy it' and wait for that rather than to decide on a game after you see the sale
Not that I've followed that ::looks at prenumbra, tower defense, lost planet, overlord::, but I did do that for Bioshock and Fallout 3. Waiting on prototype and/or COD4 to go on sale.
-
I agree with you on that, Dire NTropy, it's just hard to resist some deals even if you hadn't considered purchasing the game before then
Personally, I'm waiting for Assassin's Creed 2. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
im tempted to buy fallout 3 for $25. but i won't.
if they make a fallout 3 *whatever edition* that include all the extra content, put it on steam, and release it for $19.99999 or less, i will buy fallout 3. -
I am soooo tempted to buy it, but i kind of been saving up for diablo 2 again cause i wanna play the ladder reset (if it ever gets reset).
I regret spending $50 on GTA4 though, i didn't like/didn't beat it. -
Yeah, it's a good price for a good game, but then again... how many DLC's do they have for it now? That's a lot of extra money to spend on it, if you want the full deal. I agree with maserchef.
@Dire Ntropy, I usually succumb to Steam Weekend deals as well, although it's much easier for the $5 games than it is for the $25 games, for obvious reasons. I actually really wanted to play HAWX but even with the $25 deal I didn't get it... -
Me too, especially since I just got paid
edit: wow I never thoughtand 'I just got paid' would ever go together in one sentence
-
A note here. If you buy the game through steam *I think* not 100% sure. You can't put the add ons. or is another problem. I heard.
-
But in Fallout 3 for PC don't you buy the DLC packages within the game via the Games for Windows?? I think it's something like that.... I haven't done it though.

I'll get Street Fighter 4 on Friday when I get paid, well pre-order it on Friday.
My joystick is calling out for itand its really nice since it has online matchups so somebody like me that doesnt have company almost ever can still get human vs human fights, and thats what fighting games are all about.
I wish they would do a MvC2 online PC game TvC when it comes to Wii America should have online, lets just hope its much better than SSBB -
Fallout 3 is great game, I would recommend anyone that doesn't have it to jump on this. One my all time favs
Just bought Trine today, and will maybe pickup Street Fighter IV before the preorder deal is over -

I hope SF4 has some kind of "lobby" so I can create a NBR lobby so we can all meet up and do a tournament style match up.

grid is tempting. i think 75% off is my purchase threshold though. there is definitely a number i would insta-buy. $15 is a bit high! but its close! rawr!
i would have also bought fallout 3 when it was on sale if they had included the bonus content. i'm waiting on the GOTY edition or whatever to be about 20 bucks. insta-buy again! -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wow i am a HUGE racing car fan....i guess theres no reason not to pick this up eh? How much hours of gameplay have you guys got on this game? Thanks in advance.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
