And wow I underestimated last stand big time. I once got 4 kills before I died. I was wearing dark camo and fell on a black charred floor and the guy shot me from far away and then was attacked. Then all of a sudden a crap load of guys come right in front and are waiting to ambush. I killed 2 with quick headshots and one more by just firing. Then I shot the last guy when another guy game and killed me though I hit him a few times so I got an assist too.

I played it on Xbox 360... realism is a different thing but soon u feel irritated by not being able to see enemies clearly..
I could hardly make out difference between enemy & objects on a high definition screen...

Although gameplay is rocking & it really captivated me..i was in a battlefield.

 

I'd try the 169.09's. To nocturnal did you turn your brightness up? I did a little and do not have any difficulty while playing on my pc

 

Is multiplayer crossplatform (Xbox360 users playing with PC users)?

 

No. There would have been more hype about it.

 

it would almost be impossible I think to do that... PCs have so much more control than controllers and those nubs....

i heard ut3 is going to be cross platform -- xbox vs ps3 vs pc ;x

 

Halo 2 Vista pulled it off well IMO (though not cross-platform, it can use the 360 controller). All they did is give a slight amount of auto-aim when using the controller, it's not as strong as in the xbox version and the bullets don't actually curve so don't think it's at all like in the xbox game where you can sweep snipe and stuff. Some people complain, but I think that's the right way to balance it out.

 

Wow i just turned on spectular map and glow and it makes a huge difference XD

 

I try to play CSS and battlefield 2142 in the dorms at my college and regularly get a ping in excess of 400. the only time I can play W/O lag is early in the morning. Must be too many people downloading S***. I guess I won't be playing COD4 online.

 

Forerunner, I don't know if you got my PM or not but could you please tell me what ingame settings are you using for specular map, depth of field, shadows and glow.

As when some people say "max" settings they have shadows, specular map, depth of field and glow set to off (some dude said it ran at max on his 8600M Gt with 48 fps, he then showed the ingame settings and all those were off..not quite max if you ask me)

Before you do so, dont worry I'm not calling you a lier or anything of the sort mate

Man COD4 looks great and I will buy it but I do have to say that I am extremely disappointed with the no health bar deal...That put me off COD2 so fast it was sick. I mean, if you can't die by just running and ducking for a few seconds or evading someone on a map for a little bit...its just dumb. I really really hated that from COD2 and I wished they would have stayed with a health bar system. Just my opinion though. Other than this dissapointment, the game looks fantastic and I will purchase it regardless and I will enjoy it!

I thought that before too about games not including the health bar, but after a while my opinin changed.

Im glad games nowadays come withouth that health bar/regenirating health thing as then you focus more on playing the actual game rather than looking around for health.

Also in CoD4 if they did implement the health system..everyone would be looking for health or just doing nothing as due to the intensity of this game you die instantly if you step out of cover or directly into enemy fire. Having a health bar ruins the immersion level as well.

Trust me you will appreciate the no health bar thing sooner or later.


Also on a side note, this game does NOT save your stats on an online server/to your cdkey/anything of the sort unlike Battlefield series. So if you uninstall and dont save your profile you will loose all your stats, so be sure to create a backup of the "players" folder inside the instalation directory and to copy it back when youve installed the game again to keep your stats.

This is annoying as you might forget to do a backup but good if you have a brother or friends who want to play your instalation/shared computer as they can each create individual profiles and take it from there.

 

Aww you lost all your crap?? THat sucks. I think without the health bar is just less intrusive. health bar is distractive because when your in a fire fight looking specifically at a bar detracts you. With the blood screen you kinda know how much your damaged and waht you should do right away.

BB about your other post. I have everything on but spec maps. Like I said my avg fps was indoors/outdoors. Indoors gives you a big boost in fps. So averaged around 30 but out doors alone is like 26 and drops down to 22-23 minimum in firefights.

 

are you using fraps to check your fps or does cod4 have an ingame command ?

No I didnt loose it hehe, I was going to do a clean os install so I decided to look up on the net if CoD4 saves your profiles online or you have to backup a folder, good thing I did.

Current rank is now 28, man I want to unlock the deagle...last stand with it will be awesome, too bad its unlocked at 43 or something like that. Man I love those servers where you play by time limit like 25 minitues instead of score...you get massive points in them, maximum ive gotten so far is 730.

Thanks Forerunner, my card without OC at those settings but with specular map on and no AA gets down to 18 fps outdoors during intense situations, in doors its like you say above 30 all the time. However maps like Downpour and Overgrown (hate both these maps) the fps drops down to 11 at times with the settings, does it drop lower than 22 for those maps?

Currently I am using 156.65 drivers from my manufacturer, Zepto. These do not allow overclocking but performance is as stated above. I tried 101.19 also provided by my manufacturer, these do allow overclocking however there is no difference between the overclocked fps and the stock clock fps so Im thinking these drivers are bad.

Will try 169.04 again, but if I get problems like I was before with the fps dropping down to single digits then catching up again then dropping down again I will stick with the 158.65.

Yeah jb, I used fraps when I did the review. Those are all review numbers I don't check anymore.
I think I'm 35 my friend loves the game and he doesn't a console or a decent comp so hes always playing it on mine. Hes like rank 12 or something. I'm about 36 I believe.

Yeah I am using .04s because of the overclock. Hell I can run gears of war at 1680 x 1050 with shadows low and everything else high. THough the game drops down to 15-16 fps in really big fire fights, I am averaging 20 fps and even more indoors. THis game lookks stunnnning.

Also taking requests for future reviews though theres nothing big in the horizon but UT3 and I'm not a huge fan though I might buy it. Assassin's creed is looking iffy for 08 because of the mediocre reviews it is getting.

THursday is gobble gobble day though and I might go out town with friends this weekend but I'm free tomorrow and friday. THough I might suck I've just been playing gears lately while my friend is playing cod4.

 

For Those Having a HIGH Ping In Multiplayer & Occasional Stuttering​

I used to get a high ping in the mutliplayer despite my connection being good, I always got around 110, now with this little tweak I get 50-60 which is great!

Anyway make sure you have the console enabled in the options

Join a server, play a bit and note your ping for comparisons sake.

Open up the console bry pressing ~ or that key next to 1 under Esc.

Type in without the quotations " /cl_maxpackets 100" and hit Enter.

Play in the server for about 5 minitues then check your ping, it should be lower than before.

Another useful tweak is, again without quotes " /pb_sleep 500" what this does is makes punkbuster check your hard-drive for cheats/problems every 500 seconds instead of the default 20 seconds. This is the maximum value so dont put anything higher, also this is safe as in punkbuster will not kick you out thinking your cheating or give you any trouble. This can reduce lag and stuttering.

 

DANG IT!!! my video card, a radeon 9250, is ONE MODEL below the min. requirements. so i can't play the demo!!! THIS SUCKS!!! does anyone know how i cna override this???

 

Also does anyone know why the game is smooth everywhere except when you strafe or turn...its like the game catches up or something.

A lot of people are having this problem, they get 70 fps and all with their 8800 ultras but when turning or strafing the game stutters/catches up.

 

I played the demo. Was a blast. I think I may buy this game. Hopefully I can get it for under $45.00.

lol yes, that is why i kept bf2 installed to relieve me of some of the annoying aspects of cod4.

 

im lvl 41 now, name is Bruce Lee, i was just wondering... where are all the 60+ level playes?! i have yet to see any of them. i know once u hit 60 u reset to lvl 1 again but u unlock "prestige mode" in whcih u get unique emblems to show how much u kick @ss.. but where are these people? i seen them on my buddies xbox, and i KNOW there are plenty of people that are past lvl 60... are they on different servers or wat?

 

The highest level you can achieve is Level 55 which is the 'Commander' rank and has 5 stars by your name. There is nothing higher.

 

there has to be something, on the menu u can unlock prestige mode in which u reset back to level 1 and have the "prestige emblems" (which look like purple medals) next to your name ... i looked at a leaderboard and it was full of people who had that.. i jsut never seen them... prestige mode is for those who reached the top level and u can keep gaining xp so u will keep going up

my fault - i guess prestige mode is exclusively for xbox right now thats a shame, ij ust looked at a cod4 forum and there is nothing but complaints about how they shorthanded the PC version because once u get 55, its done. whereas on the 360 its 60 then resets and u keep getting better badges with all the complaints i see about the cap on PC and not on 360, hopefully they will give us prestige mode or something just like the 360 cuz i dont want to just end at 60 thats a shame that they implement something in 360 and not on the pc, but at least they are hearing teh complaints... hopefully...

 

The only map that I experience this is shipment, which I will not play. Atleast there is a grenade warner.

Best rec for me is still 30-2.

Alot of people are still having probs with 1.1 and 1.2 patches. Since they aren't mandatory and my game is working without issues, I didn't do any of the patches yet.

 

Yes, I dont have any of the problems the patches are meant to fix so didnt apply them as people report on having problems with them such as not being able to see servers or join games etc.

By the way, what the hell is up with the high pings on servers....I entered the /cl_maxpackets 100 command to reduce ping which it did, but now servers are having some problems, the ping randomly goes to above 500ms from 65 for everyone playing.

When playing lan ping is always below 17 though


Oh btw a couple of tweaks for people if they didnt read my earlier posts

In console

/pb_sleep 500 -- may help with stutering
/cl_maxpackets 100 -- helps with ping
/com_maxfps 0 -- helps overall

In menu

make sure smooth mouse is set to on, strafing and turning around feels much more smoother now.

 

I didn't even know there were patches lol. I just got the red tiger camo for my m4 . Like 5 levels away from the g36

 

Guys I just got the game from Amazon for 39.99 and it is awesome as expected... I have yet to try multiplayer tho!

 

Which should i pick up first, GOW or this. Im also picking up Unreal Tournament III with it, so these, along with my precious crysis, should keep me busy. If i decide which to get.

 

Pick up COD4! I don't know why, but I'm enjoying this game a lot more than I should... I haven't finished the campaign but I kinda wanna go back and play the game from the start already.

 

Well I got this score by running around with the M60 and firing from the hip, I believe I had the deep impact and steady aim perks.
