Yup, Asus went mental starting with the G752 Maxwell's, too much bux, but nice stuff.

Thanks for the update. Subjective fan noise would be helpful for me - not necessarily while running a benchmark, just under normal gaming use.

Hah any type of review would be greatly appreciated. Things like how hot it runs while playing games would be great to know.

Thanks a lot for coming back here and informing us! I really appreciate the weight information, it did seemed like ASUS understated it before and it's great to have 100% info now and thus be able to make an educated decision.

On the thickness - 2.5cm? This is interesting, cause ASUS states 3.01cm for the VS (and 2.35cm for VM). Did you measure at the thickest part? If they shoved both models into the same chassis this time around then I can see almost no reason to get the VM with 1060 vs VS with 1070 (except for price, but it's well worth the difference).

Notebookcheck already has a preview of the VS, but are you happy with the idle and load noise levels and performance? How's the GSYNC screen?

Oops sorry I forgot to close the screen, so it's indeed 3 cm, maybe more with the little pads (?) underneath
    [IMG]

As for the noise, in idle it's not 100% silent, but silent enough that I don't notice it, haven't tested yet running a benchmark or playing games, i'm going to ^^

Awesome. Try running Intel XTU in the background while doing benchmarking / games, so you would be able to see graphs of CPU and GPU temperatures / clocks / eventual throttling (if it happens):

    121 percent faster than 970m...nice

I don't wanna but I feel compelled to save up for a 1070 laptop. Volta should be 50 to 80 percent faster...but when your getting 90 fps in Witcher 3 over clocked does 150 really add to the game or other games..we will need more power when Xbox Scorpio comes out.. 1070 will be to weak... So it stands.. buy 1070 before Dec and keep it for 2.5 years then buy the architect sure that ngreedia has planned to handle the 4k ports

When would the older gen laptops go cheaper? I would appreciate if i could buy 970m instead of 960m at least...

People should not even play with an FPS monitor on. I find it causes unnecessary stress and doubt.

You could be playing The Witcher 3 at 35 FPS and enjoying the hell out of it, but instead, you're sitting there stressing over not playing at 60+ FPS.

Unknown if you will find one at the time the prices are lowest.

Starting a month ago prices were dropping, but I think inventory will be depleted before prices get much lower.

There will be those sellers that hold high prices and keep inventory for a long time, again unknown why that works for them. They never seem to drop price.

I'd get what you want when you see it, before they sell out. The undesirable stuff might be available longer, but the choice stuff will sell out quickly.

Could not install Intel xtu for some reason (got error 0x80070643)
But I ran 3d mark fire strike, here's the monitoring result maybe this is enough : http://i.imgur.com/wvNEcj6.png (link because the image is big ^^)
And the score (seems a bit low and i did not overclocked anything, i'll do another later) : http://i.imgur.com/qlAV9dv.png

The computer was really noisy during the test, I'm not used to laptops so I don't know if it was a lot compared to others.
I can hear some rattling noise probably from a fan, i'm not sure if it's normal but unlucky as I am I probably got a faulty one
The middle of the keyboard gets a little hot but not to much

I've tried playing Witcher 3 on ultra with hairwork and HBAO+, I have between 50-60 fps (in Novigrad) and everything is really smooth. But the laptop does get really noisy, even with my headphones i can hear it a little, i did hear the rattling noise at the beginning but it faded

A 960m even if cheaper would be pretty useless imho. Go for the 970m, 980m or 1060 if you can find it at the same price (if you live in Europe i doubt it).

Yup, 13,624 points in graphics subscore of 3dmark firestrike seems low.

NotebookCheck median for GTX 1070 was 16,911 points (and 16,525 for Asus GL502VS)

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1070-Laptop.169549.0.html

Make sure you are not running in some power-saving mode (could be coming both from Windows itself or some custom Asus software).

Not sure about Asus, but e.g. MSI they have their own SW control center with some silly modes that throttle performance (they call it "green" / "comfort" / "sport" modes, only sport one is unthrottled).

In the monitoring, the GPU utilization appears to fluctuate a lot during the benchmark tests. This is the sign of throttling or bottlenecking. For reference, on the desktop my 1080 has flatline 99% utilization throughout Firestrike.

    Hello together,

i want to go with this one http://www.ebay.de/itm/122092215145?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
I think that this is a good price.

Can someone tell me which display is installed in the Clevo P775DM3-G with the FHD Display?
I've only found a test with the Clevo P775DM1 (LG LP173WF4-SPD1).
    Is it the same?

And is it ever time the same display and keyboard doesn't matter which reseller i choose?

I use my Laptop 80% to play games. Is the Desktop I7 6700k worth 200 Euro more when i compete it with the i7 6700hq?

    Thank you

I built a desktop (well, my brother-in-law did the building, really) a couple years ago with 8 GB Ram, i5 4430, and GTX 760. Just out of curiosity I looked up my old pcpartpicker list and noticed that the computer as a whole would actually cost me pretty much the same today; the 760 I bought isn't available anymore (same with my specific motherboard), the i5 4430 is actually more expensive, the memory has dropped significantly in price, and the storage is cheaper, but overall about the same price. This surprised me.

So, if laptops are similar, and I'm guessing they are, old tech prices don't really drop in price, it's just that their same-price replacements perform much better; a similarly priced 6th generation i5 would outperform my 4th gen 4430, or alternatively I could find a 6th gen that performs equivalently for less than what the 4430 costs. We're already seeing big performing boosts from Pascal over their Maxwell counterparts (though to be honest I don't know how prices compare), so my guess is that Maxwell won't necessarily get cheaper, it will just become obsolete and phased out.

That's just my impression, so somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm looking to replace my recently-expired laptop (AMD 6770M), budget currently has me at 960M, so I'm waiting for a similarly-priced Pascal to become available, since all indicators point to it being clearly superior to the 960M.

Generally speaking in laptop land, because of the limited upgrade options, older parts tend to become scarce and worth more. 980Ms will probably start selling at a higher price since they're effectively the highest upgrade for most machines with MXM.

So I just got my notebook with GTX 1060, and the leap from 960m to 1060 mobile is incredible (like we all expected). With 960m, Witcher 3 was unplayable even with lowest settings, unless you tolerate sub-30 FPS. Now I can run ultra w/hairworks at ~40 FPS. With small tweaks on the heavy stuff it's easily 80+ FPS. Also ran Heaven's benchmark and the temperature never exceeded 70 degrees celcius. It's not the thinnest notebook, but far from bulky. Pretty neat.

Have you looked into the GS73VR? It's by far the thinnest/lightest option with the 17" 120Hz screen at 0.77"/5.3 lbs. It doesn't advertise GSYNC however.

Yes, i know 960M is pretty useless but I dont have any other options :( I live in europe, 970M is still very pricey(more expensive than buying a 1060 laptop in usa) and 1060 laptop prices are just ridiculous.

So i think im going to finally upgrade from an old P170hm with a 580m inside.
I know im going to see the difference but i cant make up my mind if i should opt for a 1070 with 6700HQ or pay another £500 to get 1080 with a 6700k.

Nice. At least our Sagers will be valuable since it has the highest upgrade in terms of GPU.
I'm happy with the performance on that rig. Played Witcher 3 60fps 1080p max settings except hairworks.

I do plan to get a new Sager with Volta GPUS (SLI of course) on 2018 so I have time to save haha

I'm considering selling mine but I'm waiting to see what Dell drops. If Dell drops a standard MXM card, it will work in the SM-A and increase resale value. It isn't likely that Dell will release a standard MXM variant but I'd rather wait and see before I put it up for sale.

Right because they were EOL for many machines. The 980M is effectively EOL for any machine from Clevo produced between the HM and DM so I'd expect a similar thing to happen here unless a standard MXM module becomes readily available from Dell which is highly unlikely.

Wait, so if they do sell standard MXM card, then our Sagers will rejoice??

We will see what happens, brother. Let's be honest. Our laptops are amazing. I love my laptop. I tend to keep it and maybe use it for business computer in a few years.

Also I'm in no rush anyway since games that are coming out does not give me the WOW factor yet. I mean, MGS V and Witcher 3 plays amazing on my laptop. Arkham Knight is alright thanks for not supporting SLI. And I only play Street Fighter V hahaha....

Well I have an eDP model (120hz display) and Clevo implemented standard MXM support in the SM-A line so yes if we got ahold of a standard MXM card, there's a pretty good chance it would work as long as it's either an eDP machine or someone solves the LVDS problem.

Yup, it did make a blip on my radar. I think it's an interesting product, but at 5.3lbs it just doesn't make sense for me (as a weight-minimizing customer, or rather a max perf/weight customer) because with just 0.3 lbs or so you can get a 1070-equipped Sager. Thanks for the thought though :)

Nvidia could have done a lot by releasing 1050 mobile along with others. It would be the "sweet spot"
Unfortunately I need a laptop now and I cannot wait for the spring term.

They haven't yet replaced the 960M and below (the 1060 occupies the spot of the 970M in the lineup) but I imagine they wanted to get their big gaming ones out first. I'm optimistic we'll see lower ones sometime soon though there's no actual word on it.

Fingers crossed. I think this release was the 'VR Ready' release, I can't imagine they will make us wait that long. I'd expect the desktop cards to show up first though, just like with the 1060/70/80/.

I have been reading that the new screens on the NP8153 have a 25ms response time, how does that compare to the older sagers? (NP8658 or the NP8652)

I owned the NP8652 and if I were to consider the newer models at all this would be a decision maker for me.

Are there any 17" 4k models out with the 1070? Everything I've seen only has 1060.
