Because 1) I had Amazon credit to use; 2) the non-SLI GT Titan for $2199 isn't available on Amazon; and 3) the extra $200 for the CPU upgrade isn't justified IMO.

The 17" version might be better if you want the 1070, the GL702 should have better cooling.

MSI GT62VR with 1060 and GSync. Right now at stock clocks and fan she is holding 1600mhz core and 2004 on mem. CPU temps around 60C and GPU at 64C.

I'm between the MSI GS43VR PHANTOM PRO and the CLEVO P650RS. It might seem like an odd comparison, but I'm often on the road, I fly 75,000 miles a year. So while the performance of the 1070 is highly desirable, I'm also really interested in the lightweight portability of the MSI 14". I have an old Sager 15.6" with a 560m GPU, and it weighs 10 lbs between the laptop and the brick, and I'm ****ing traumatized by it.

Best I can figure is that the Clevo is 5.6 lbs + 1.5 pounds for the power brick. MSI is 3.75 lbs and I can't find a goddamn thing on the weight of the power brick. I'd pay the higher price for the portability, I really would (and newegg charges no tax, a huge feather in the cap). If the MSI had the 1070 it would be a no brainer. Does anyone have info on the Clevo 14" or any other 14" laptops coming down the pipe? Price isn't too much concern, but I don't like to waste cash either.

The 1060 is no slouch, but it's clear the 1070 is a cut above. Thoughts? Optimally I'd get info on a 14" model with a 1070 coming soon.

That's the 1060 version, the 1070 (VS) is still to be found...

Msi GS73VR looks very sexy but read a review somewhere here in the forum that the gpu and cpu went all the way to 90-92C but the gpu was 1070 on that model. How do you guys think the temp will do with 1060 on GS73?

Was that the Furmark + prime95? That simultaneous combo will bring most laptops to their knee's - thermal throttling, and I don't think that one did, so high temps, but just below thermal throttling - pretty amazing for a "slim" laptop with a 1070.

Noone loads that kind of CPU/GPU under normal use, you won't see that extreme while gaming or under normal use.

    I wouldn't shy away from a 1070, it's much faster than the 1060 :)

I'm also stuck between the ASUS GL502VS and the SAGER NP8153-S. Any suggestions? This will be a college/gaming laptop so I'm leaning towards the Sager as it doesn't have the "gamer" look to it.
Also, if I were to get the Sager, should I get the 4k or 1080 display? i7 6700hq or 6820HK?

Considering you'll write papers with the laptop, I'd say the 1080p.

Display is up to you. 6820HK is the only option if affordable! Minimum for 4K is 1070, although 1080 is preferred... Your choice!

Thanks guys. What makes 1080p preferable for writing papers? And what are the advantages of having a 15.6" 4k laptop screen as opposed to 1080p?

1080 has a more comfortable native size of text.

15.6 might be small for writing, but is more portable.

4k has much better colors XD

In 3dmark it benchmarked within 1% of another 1070 laptop, and there is no mention of overheating, throttling, or loss of performance.

The only related comment is "One thing we do not want to hide, however, is the subjectively pretty loud system noise while gaming."

Please point out the quote / section that shows thermal problem.

I've read that review several times. He threw me off with what he said as well. Matter of fact they clearly state the GPU performance is great but it's the noise that can get you, and even then it's not too awful.

Btw, I'm not sure where you are located but Amazon and Newegg have it as well. I just purchased mine from Newegg.

That one at 4min mark is The Real Machine - P775DM3, superb stealth look & the only machine with the GTX1080 A true beast !!It says GSync so the panel is 75Hz of which make ? Since I heard the 120Hz AUO, 5ms panel is not GSync certified. The only issue with that machine is the keyboard and runner up is the MSI GT73 VR at 3:08 which also has the 1080 option :D

Edit : Subtle things like that side ventilation in the GT73VR, I think that's good, since you can now use that as a "laptop" whereas others can't xD, also that massive heatsink on the M.2 NVMe SSD's, separate heastinks and the 6pipe massive HS on GPU - Absolutely fantastic work there. Really wish that machine was a Z170 6700K one...

    @Beasthunt

Ahhh, that CPU sample has 1 hot core at 92c - the other cores maxed out at 85c/86c/89c, really not bad at all, in fact it's really good :)

The GPU hit 88c, again not bad at all.

    Asus GL502VS.JPG

That combined Furmark + prime95 generates a lot of load on both the CPU and GPU cooling at the same time, so shared cooling gets affected more than independent cooling.

Those results aren't bad, they are good.

Most people won't have 1 hot core, and will likely see 86c across the cores / package.

Again, go for the 1070 over the 1060 if you can, it's much faster.

The 120hz G-sync was configured in @Phoenix 's new P870DM3, so they do exist for Clevo's.

The GT73VR can also run 1070 SLI, for games that scale it's a big boost over the single 1080.

The P775DM3 looks good too :)

Oh that's cool ! still going through the 870DM3 page ;), Yep that 1070SLI option is quite cool over the 775DM3 1080, If it only had that 6700K, Like the Eurocom Tornado F5 /MSI 16L1 . It'd be best option for Single GPU purchasers and even have the upgrade-ability for SLI :D!

Do any of the 120Hz G-sync displays support ULMB (ultra low motion blur aka Lightboost aka strobed backlight)?

If anyone happens to come across a GS43VR review, please do share. It'd be great to see how a 14 inch laptop fares with a Pascal GPU.

Yup I am ordering a P870DM2 w/ 1070SLI...big boost over single 1080 (in games that support it) and not the extra $800 ~ $1000 for a few more fps with a dual 1080 setup

I know. I've bought my P870DM from Hyperbook. Great support and contact. They're reselling Clevos for at least 4-5 years. Their prices are great too. ;)

Not to dash your hopes or anything, but if the 15in model cannot handle the 1060 without throttling, I doubt the 14in can handle it too...

I have been reading this and the previous forum for a long time now and seeing that Pascal is finally out for laptops, it feels great.

Yet, I live in Sweden and the prices here are crazy for Asus, MSI, Clevo. What I am looking for is a 17.3" 1070 with ips 120Hz. And hopefully, it will not be a brick! Something less than 3500 grams. I do not know about the 4k screen, undecided really.

In Europe, is there such a system available yet? Can you write them please you notebook deities?

Fair enough. (I was mostly just wondering if you might have had a different link.) It seems MSI took a "no compromises" approach to the GS series and just shoved Pascal GPUs into their chassis without improving cooling.

You didn't dash my hopes... MSI did when I saw the GS43VR had the same exact dimensions and weight as its predecessor.

Oh well. Seeing as Razer and Aurous will probably offer even worse cooling on their 14"/13.9" refreshes, and Clevo is tight lipped on any plans for a 14" Pascal refresh, I'll probably bite the bullet on portability and get a 15.6" Clevo, unless other reviews start speaking more favorably of cooling in the 14" models soon.
