I see :) I will let you know when I find more information about the GS43VR. Which model are you considering? Is it the P650RS?

Thanks!! I'm considering both that and the RP6, between the two I'm leaning more towards the RS because it's reasonably priced for a 1070, despite being a little heavier and thicker. Still haven't made my mind up yet though.

I'm trying to understand something about the asus GL series.
I can see different product code on internet. GL702VT and G702VT...
I thought it would be the same laptop. After checking google, I haven't find really info, one guy on a forum mention that one would be using plastic for the case and the other one using premium meterials...
    Are G502 and GL502 the same ?

As some of you might remember I´ve had an MSI with GTX 1070 and 6820HK for some time, an IVY 172 MP from pc-konsulten.se, but was asked to delete my posts. I promised a repost so here it is and some more info of what I have so far.

This is my old screenshot, the latest GPU-Z still can´t recognize the 1070:

Internal pictures, I´ve yet to snag a pic with the heatsink removed:

The 6820HK is fully unlocked but with all tweaking possible and help from @D2 Ultima I still can´t get it stable over 3.8 GHz on all cores due to power throttling (stock 2.7-3.6 GHz).

The GPU is on 980Ti level in Firestrike and on 1070/Titan X level when OCd to max stable +250/+400 MHz. Graphics score are Standard 17150/18770 stock/OC, Extreme 8019/8717 stock/OC and Ultra 3878/4214 stock/OC.

Firestrike compared to desktop cards (desktop scores from Sweclockers) and 980M in my P771ZM.

Shadow of Mordor 1080p Ultra gets min/avg fps 67/98 and 80/100 for stock and oc respectively (prolonged Stronghold fight during alarm). The benchmark gives min/avg 75/128 fps stock.

    BF4 1080p Ultra differs alot from game to game. I´ve had 92/119, 110/152, 45/138 and 59/118 min/avg fps.

Sadly there are some restrictions in the vBIOS and it wont hold max boost clocks even at stock clocks. It seems it throttles down every 10C at 46, 56, 66 and 76C (haven´t been able to push it higher). Clock bounces between base and boost. Nvidia would probably call it a feature, to me it feels like an unnecessary restriction and a throttle.

I have some gameplay recorded, will upload it tonight.

what do you think about i76700hq vs i76820hk?

if I google it they seem to have pretty much the same performance ..

Nice photos. It would be nice to see that "naked" GPU :D
Also I'm really curious about how bigger 1070 is compared to 970m and 980m. I wonder if mxm connection is 3.0b

Anyone else wth these new cards try and read/save the vBIOS? My GTX1060 on my GT62 cannot be read and or saved.

Leads me to question whether the card is MXM like the 1070 model or if in fact the 1060 model isn't MXM in which case it will be going back. No going to lug around a large laptop without a benefit.

Or another possibility and more likely scenario is Nvidia has required the vBIOS to be located off the card and placed into the system bios to make tweaking more difficult or attempting. To flash desktop vBIOS to these cards.

Temperature throttling your seeing also happens on DT cards, a feature. :) Pascal likes to be cool.

FWIW looks like MSI mobile 1060 and 1070 VBIOS show 78W and 115W limits respectively. Expect some throttling if hitting those. What power limit do you have on your card? Also what are hard throttle and shutdown temperature limits?

My 970M couldn't get a vBIOS dump with GPU-Z so I doubt your 1060 can.. Use NVflash, that is garunteed to work when doing a dump.. Ask @Prema if he has a Pascal compatible version which you could use to do this!

I'm pretty sure the G502 series was the 970/980m. VT had no Gsync, VY has Gsync.

The GL502 series signifies its a Pascal laptop and from what I've seen thus far; they will all have Gsync.

    *Edit*

I mispoke. With this laptop the "stats" are what's after the GL502. For right now the VS version is the 1070. I'm sorry about that. I'm keeping a kid occupied and just overcooked 2 packs of bacon.....

GL702 also shown in that video @ 1:00:

    upload_2016-8-17_5-13-27.png

Seems odd the GL702 shown only has 75hz G-sync, when the other Asus 17" displays have 120hz, maybe the GL702 wasn't the shipping version and Asus will ship with a 120hz display... I hope so :)

I mispoke and edited it. The VT/VY are Maxwell. The VS is Pascal they also add more letters on the end for other specs.

    -DS71
    -DS74

From what a preview said; they are basically all the same minus the gpu and extra storage and rams. I've had to spend several minutes double checking I had the right model when I was juggling between the 970/980m.

Thankfully I only had one model to choose from when they announced the 1070....lol.

Too heavy for mobile. My new apartment is about 3 miles away from my new working location, I plan to ride the bike for work. Therefore, weight is an important factor.

So after reading some GPU benchmarks, I've come to the following:
    1060 is approximately 15% better than 980M.
    1070 is 50% better than 1060.
    1080 is 90% better than 1060, and 30% better than 1070.

    I think I'll settle with a 1060 once I save enough. :D

IDK if they have stock, but it's worth checking :)

As with most new hardware releases, you need to camp on their listings, sign up for alerts, and proactively keep polling the links / sites / info to find one, then snatch it up - you may only have minutes or hours to act.

Gaming laptops and bikes don't mix well, top heavy causes instability, unless you pack them in panniers, and balance weight on the other side as well. I wouldn't want to carry a $2000+ laptop on a bike...

I would have 2 laptops, one for work/school and one for everything else. Get a nice 2 in 1 for notes and school/work and get a massively protective case to allow for backpack slapping back and forth.

The gaming notebooks don't fit well on lecture hall school desks either :)

So if you go single 1080 in the gt73, does it have more dedicated cooling to the one gpu versus having 2 1070s?

I did it all the time for my old laptops, ASUS G50VT, Apple MBP. They survived. I'm not a student, so I don't care about that. Besides, GL502VS and P650/670 are quite low-key for me.

Typically a little more cooling space is used per GPU in a single GPU laptop that is also configurable as a dual/SLI GPU combo.

GentechPC did a teardown, check out the cooling parts starting at 18:10, and check out MXM 1080 - they show the empty slot too @ 19:00:

My GE62 with a soldered 3gb 970m was able to dump and flash the vBIOS just fine. I doubt a higher end laptop with a stand alone card wouldn't be able to dump/flash the vBIOS.

I will try what you said when I get to the hotel @Dufus

My GT62 has a 1060 but I can't se through the bottom and until I'm 100% sure I'm keeping this and not getting a 1070 laptop I'm not breaking the warranty seal. I know it doesn't actually void the warranty but not sure Micro Center would like that.

Has there been an announcement about the GL702 with GTX 1070? All I've seen is the GL702VM with a 1060.
