Ive had vapor chambers on GPU bloat and severely damage card before im sure the pro will be prone to that happening then people will ask why the laptop looks like its eaten too much cake. Its a rare occurrence but still...
They should've put a 1070 and called it a day.
Alsu i want in on this brofest.

Can't wait for pascal modded vbios.
Gonna be such a huge improvement, playing with power & temp target.
I don't want to bother prema about it, even by mail. Any idea if he is working on it ? -
From what I understand Prema is working on custom BIOS for Prema partnered clevo resellers.

Looks like the AERO 14 has been updated with the 1060 too:
http://www.gigabyte.com/press-center/news-page.aspx?nid=1479
Since they don't mention anything about improving the cooling system, I guess they didn't, and that's a damn shame. This laptop is almost perfect for me, but not at the price of throttling, loudness and a lack of eGPU capability. It's a shame, I feel like we would all gladly take another 100-200 grams of copper to get a good heatsink and better fans in there.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -

Dammit. Just when they had to deliver a good new cooling system like the one in the GS43VR so that the new Aero 14 does not overheat or throttle, they make the inexplicable decision to stay with the old cooling system to deal with a hotter card.
@D2 Ultima - any chance we may get something that does not overheat?

Interesting. If only it could have the AW15's 99Wh battery for good battery life. Let us hope and pray that we can get 6+ hrs of web browsing on whatever battery they put in it. Then I'd seriously consider it.

Can almost guarantee up to 10 hours with the OLED panel. I owned the R1 and R2, and both saw well over 7 hours of school use and browsing with the QHD+.
P.S. At idle, the 1050/1060 shouldn't be much different than the 960M/965M.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -

Well then. That is interesting. Thanks for the info. Let us hope that them switching to the quad-core H series processors doesn't kill the battery too fast.

Look at the dimensions on this page:

What it lacks in height, it more than makes up in depth... Probably will have massive heatsinks and a battery to match.

According to this article, the Kaby Lake "H" processors will be released Q4 2016. Maybe it's worth the wait?
I'd definitely expect to see the 7500U.

So hopefully that means that the overheating part will be taken care of. For my personal usage, battery life is the key.

Does that include HK?

I would assume so, yes. All H-series CPU's week 51 of this year (late December).
In my opinion, it's worth the wait, especially if you are looking for better battery life. What's another month? Big deal.

It's nice to see some more 14"-and-under laptops join the Pascal party. I especially look forward to seeing how the AW13's cooling stacks up against the GS43VR's. I expect the AW13 will be better, given it's a 13-inch laptop that weighs 5.8 pounds/2.6 kilograms. But how much better? The GS43VR already keeps GPU temps in the low-to-mid-70s C when gaming on with near-max settings at 1080p at 60 FPS, and it weights ~4 pounds. I wouldn't settle for the AW13 unless it keeps its GPU ice cold. Though an OLED screen and twice the battery life of the GS43VR would be amazing...
(Then again, I'm not super excited about OLED, and am content saving cash to buy a direct-view QLED screen when they (hopefully) start coming out in a few years. Given that they will be cheaper to produce, I'd expect to see direct-view QLED screens used for computers much more than OLEDs have been. We're still a few years away though - if we're really lucky, they'll start showing up in laptops just in time for Einstein GPUs in 4ish years
)

How much better? It's fair to say that given the 2.6 kg heft and the massive dimensions of the AW13 R3 (it's easily four centimetres deeper than my notebook, and five hundred grams heavier), it should keep both graphics and central processors well under the 70s mark.
Although according to you the GS43VR cools well (despite @D2 Ultima's doubts), I really hope Alienware has a small form-factor winner here. Not nearly as light as the competition, but it should blow everything else out of the water when it comes to thermal performance. True to what Alienware used to be.
Just look at that rear extension, looks like it's entirely thermal hardware under there:

Your vendor doesn't seem to be coming through for you anyway, maybe better to cut your losses, get a refund, and wait for the Kaby Lake revision.
I don't think we can count on many Kaby Lake HQ/HK units shipping before the end of the year. It will likely take time for makers to turn around new models.
It could be 5 months before you get one... Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March 2017.
That's the timing I am expecting at the earliest.
And, we have seen the teething issues with new laptops for Pascal, so maybe wait for some owner reports before ordering.
So that could be April/May 2017.
Do you want to wait that long?
-
I don't doubt the AW13 will cool better. I'm saying that for me, and probably for many others in the market for a laptop with a small form factor, the cooling-to-weight tradeoff won't be worth it.
Also, the GS43VR temps aren't just "according to me" but according to many of us in the GS43VR owner's lounge. Non-owners are welcome to "have doubts" of course, but it's reality (do you think we're making these temps up?). My decision to buy a GS43VR was based in part on the earliest of the early adopters who reported such surprisingly good temps. And since you bring up @D2 Ultima, who I too have much respect for, I'll mention that I certainly agree with his gripes about the GS43VR's heat pipes being too close to the wireless card and to the ports on the right side of the laptop. I never said that the cooling was perfect, just that it's good enough for me (and probably others) not to want to trade up for something like the much-heavier AW13.
Nonetheless I remain curious to see its thermal performance. I'm sure it'll be the best choice for those who want the absolute best thermals in a small form factor and don't care about the weight. (Or for those who want a sweet OLED screen
)

Ah no, as @Prototime said, my doubts were on the expected longevity of the machine due to the layout of the heatpipes. I don't believe I questioned the direct cooling capability, but I refuse to recommend to someone that notebook based on the layout of the heatpipes. Whether it cools well or not doesn't matter much to me.
Also, according to what I saw someone test with a GS73VR for me, the heatpipe running over the PCH seems to be a mostly non-issue. I had someone stress it with a somewhat demanding title for me and the system PCH only got near whatever the CPU was at under simultaneous load, so I assume they must have a very thin form of insulation material there, or something. This is completely gone from the GS43VR, mind you, but I think the GS63 and GS73 aren't so bad. Clevo's P6xxRx models cool better, but with the BIOS and hotkey problems, I wouldn't blame someone for picking something else. At least until a Prema mod shows up.Prototime likes this. -

Or the MSI GT62VR, which can house a 1070 and cools very well. Admittedly a bit thick and heavy.
@Talon @Diversion can attest to that, even though they returned theirs for the 16L13 barebones.

Ah, no, clearly I got the wrong message across. @Prototime, I didn't mean the GS43VR didn't cool properly, merely that the cooling assembly itself was not good enough, given @D2 Ultima mentioned its shortfalls like the heatpipes going too near the ports, Wi-Fi module and PCH. Ah, my phrasing was terrible.
The thing is, the AW13, despite being a 13" notebook, will have the volume (and mass) of a small 15" one because of that massive thermal dissipation assembly behind the lid. It's an odd trade-off, making a notebook deeper rather than taller or wider. It would have absolutely no business having worse cooling than the GS43, since it is intrinsically bigger.

I actually spoke to my vendor on this last night and my laptop came into the country over the weekend. So I will be getting it later today or tomorrow.
As for waiting I'd rather not. Lol I have been without a reliable computer for about 3ish months now and it drives me bonkers.
And that's what I figured about kabylake lake.....I'd wait for it...then it would be "OH Volta in a month"....Wait for that.

Well, setting aside the BGA part, is the gpu mxm? (Haven't looked it up yet) what is the price tag? For NVMe, Intel is the bargain brand with prices very similar to sata SSDs. Look into it. Also, waiting for Samsung 960 Evo to drop costs of NVMe in a week or two should be a must (which means get the 256GB 960 evo or get a 512GB-1TB Intel 600p, noting the 1TB is hard to find). For the ram, without knowing speed, brand, etc., hard to say the value. It's almost always better to get the least ram possible and buy the additional ram yourself. On the GPU, wait to see temps. It is a 980 equivalent, but I thought I saw somewhere heat on the larger machine from alienware was not as nice as other machines. If that is what you are looking for in a 13", then it is fine. Get a QHD display (the 1440) so long as the reviews are solid for that display size.
Meanwhile, it can't hold a candle to a desktop CPU, but for what it is and its uses, should be fine...
