Notebook Check measured it.
686:1 contrast ratio, 0.5 black levels, only 55% aRGB and 84% sRGB.
Objectively mediocre specs, for a new display in 2016. The color striping is the sour icing on the moldy cake.

I'll have my X7 v6 with the 1440 screen next week, hopefully. Until then I have to go on what the reviews and those that have actually used it say. It's for gaming, not photo editing. I encourage you to read the review on this site. Their verdict is: 'The great display reacts quickly and offers a 120 Hz refresh rate and G-Sync. These are great features for passionate gamers, who wish to enjoy a smooth gaming experience.' The screen is mentioned in their pros, not cons. I'll take that.

Both Notebook Check and Trusted Reviews actually measured the screen with their own equipment, and both slagged it as mediocre.
Smoke all of the hopium you want, but in the end it just isn't a good screen, technically.
What reviews are you going on, if you're ignoring the two most in depth ones available? -
Ummm... the above quote is from the Notebook Check conclusion. I read the WHOLE review.
I'm not arguing it's a great display globally, but if I have to choose between a 120 hz g-sync 1440p screen and a screen with none of those that has more accurate colors... and I'm getting it for gaming? Easy choice. YMMV.

im guessing it depends on the shape and power requirements of the MSI 1080 card. we still havent seen one in the wild as far as i know....

@Papusan @hmscott - Considering the Aorus X7 v6 with 1070 as a relatively thin and light 17.3" laptop. Would you guys have any other suggestions? I've looked far and wide, and can't find anything that is as well rounded. I know the PSU is a bit small, but I'm hoping that that "battery boost" will let me game at full power for a good long while. I've read Notebookcheck's review and liked what I saw. Thoughts?

Yeah, good point. However, I worry a lot about Clevo QC horror stories, and my last laptop was a Sager/Clevo and I had a poor experience with it.
If only MSI made a 1070 version of the GS73VR with an upgraded cooling system. It would be an easy pick then.

The more recent Clevos are quite a bit better, and should have Prema Mod support, especially if you buy them from HIDEvolution.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -

Okay. Thanks! If I get one, I'll probably ask them to stress test it and tell me temperatures before I take delivery.

Would you recommend the P670RS-G or the X7 v6? The X7 v6 seems to have an underpowered PSU, despite it having only a 1070 (NotebookCheck said it draws 253W at max load).
Also, because I live on the other side of the world, I can't try stuff, since the shipping to my location costs $250+ - imagine shipping both ways if I don't like it
I have to go on reviews and other people's impressions. That is why I am thinking of ordering either the P670RS-G or X7 v6 from HIDevolution or GenTechPC and asking them to repaste with CLU and see if the temps are acceptable. If they are, I will confirm the order.
First, though, I need to arrange the money

For the first. I don't recommend BGA to any buyers of laptops bigger than 14 inches. I can't tolerate soldered hardware in 15-17 or 18 inches laptops!! Second... Aorus is known for heat problems. You can't expect decent hardware temp in thinnest possible chassis design. Third... Battery boost is a terrible fix on a gimped design!! Either deliver a strong enough psu, or stop selling the machine.SirSaltsAlot, Ashtrix, TBoneSan and 2 others like this.

Thanks for your inputs! All absolutely valid points. What is your opinion of the P670RS-G then? I know it is BGA, but if you look past that, what do you think? It has an OC-able CPU, a 1070 as GPU and ample storage options. With CLU and a (hopefully) good heatsink, temps should be under control. If I buy one, I'll ask the guys I buy it from to send me screenshots of temps before I confirm the order. Thoughts?

The only I se valuable with BGA machines aka Clevo P6 series... is @Prema firmware!! If you absolutely *have - must* go with BGA.., Go for Clevo but with Prema firmware. I don't touch such machines
Edit. Look for HID. Ask @Donald@HIDevolution for a deal http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p670rs-g-custom-built-gaming-laptop-w-nvidia-gtx-1070-w-g-sync.html

Thanks for the help! One question - how is Clevo QC? I'm quite worried about that. I have had a bad experience in the past with my old laptop, and I'm concerned.

I'm on my second Clevo now. These two are the only laptops from my 6 last laptop purchase without problems
@Donald@HIDevolution will help you so you get the best experience. Ask for good hardware temp. Aka Liquid ultra and a decent heatsink. Ask and He will test it before he send it to you.hmscott and ThePerfectStorm like this. -

It's a tough decision.
No matter what you get there will be some aspect that is below another's implementation at purchase, and more such under performing aspects as time goes by - faster and better implementations continue to be released.
I look at it this way.
If what I am buying meets it's specifications, review benchmarks, good and bad points, and I accept that before purchase, then I need to remind myself after purchase that I got what I bought, and to be happy with it.
There will always be something better in some aspect, but nothing exactly like I have and enjoy over the many months and years to come.
Enjoy what you have, and be happy.

So this 1080 is a MSI one similar to the 1070.

Hello Guys,
I've been reading this forum for quite some time but now time has come to finally ask you guys for advice. I'm a proud owner of a GT73VR 6RE (GTX1070, 32GB, 256GB SSD) and in general I'm happy with the choice.
Unfortunately, when I try to use the Turbo Mode in MSI Dragon Center and start up any game with cooling in Auto setting, I immediately get a black screen and laptop restarts. Situation is similar with cooling set to CoolerBoost setting. Games are starting up nicely and, depending on the title, I can play from few up to 15-20 min and then again black screen and restart.
I noticed that CPU temp is quickly rising to 65-67 degrees and I guess then the restart happens.. Have any of you had similar problems? Or maybe you know what is causing the issue?
Or maybe Turbo mode is just an advertising trick and in reality its unusable?
Thanks,
Max -

Only because the 1060 paired with it is clocked higher than the others listed

this sounds more like a gpu issue. what are the gpu temps like in those situations? even if the gpu core itself is cool, other components are likely overheating. if access is not abysmally difficult, i would make sure to check correct placement and contact of the thermal pads on the gpu.

Thx for the replay. I checked the GPU temps and they reach to max 67-70 degrees. While I was running HWinfo I noticed some parameters called "Distance to TjMAX" (screen attached) under CPU sensors list. And that's why I thought it might be the CPU temp. On the other hand, if they are some critical values, why set them so low?
I'm seriously thinking to return it to the shop so they can check the themral pads on the GPU and CPU.. I even paid extra to change the cooling paste to a better one so I think they owe me..Attached Files:

67 degrees is nothing. You should be worried when it hits 90+.
