Microcenter is pretty cool about it, ask the store manager if you don't get a satisfactory answer from the techs.

Nope, not seen the GL702VS yet. If there is a 1070 in a 15" GL502VS model, it stands to reason there will be a GL702VS as well, eventually
My 17" recommendation was a general recommendation - bigger is better for cooling. -
I'm ok with no g-sync but these cheap lcd panel are really that bad?

Oh.. but i think i will buy it since it's really cheap for a 1060.

Same as MSI GT62

If you plan to run mostly on an external monitor, with the lid closed, and I assume it's a good price, I'd say go for it
But, what's the return / warranty / service policy on something like that?? Shouldn't you purchase locally? -
Just thought Id check in. Hows mobile Pascal looking wrt Temps, Power consumption and mxm compatibility ?

Does anyone know if the P775DM3-G supports a 1080p screen @ 120hz with or without gsync? From what I am seeing you can only get the P870DMx with this screen which is disappointing.
-
If I want to take a heavy one, what do you think about 750DM2?hmscott likes this.
-
I've mostly been watching the P870DM* series because it will support a 1080 SLI (was hoping 980 SLI earlier).
I did a price comparison between the P775 and P870 with 1 980, and the price was so close, I stopped checking out the P7XX series and focused on the P870DM* series.
The only pertinant comment I can recall about the new P7 vs P8 series is that someone was complaining about the P7's not offering the 120hz 1080p screen...
I think there is a support forum for the P750, check out comments there

We're in the same boat. I've been wanting a 14" model, but there's nothing appealing thus far; as I'm sure you know, MSI is the only partner with a 14" option at ALL currently. I'm a working professional who is on the road 35-40% of the year, and every single ounce of weight matters to me. I've got a old Sager P150 with a 560m and a power brick you could murder someone with; the whole packet is just shy of 10 lbs. 10lbs is no big deal, but comboed with other stuff in the bag, and when you're walking everywhere with it, it wears on you.
Best I can determine is that the 15.6 clevo models with the 1070 come in at 5.50 lbs and the power unit is about 1.5 lbs. Sure, that's a reduction in weight, but not as much as I had hoped.Prototime likes this. -
The 13.9" Aorus X3+ is an attractive buy. It features a 6820HK, GTX 1060 and a QHD+ display.

Nvidia spills the beans on its newly released mobile GTX 10 series
"Nvidia will no longer separate its high-end laptop and desktop graphics chips. Instead, it will stuff its Pascal-based desktop chips, the GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080 into various laptops from all the major manufacturers currently making gaming machines."

Just waiting patiently (at least I tell myself that) for a <$1000 pascal laptop. Is the 1050 incoming? Any word on that?
-
Interesting. It's a little XTREME GAMER for me, I often have to use these things in meetings, and even the MSI is pushing it in terms of design. The Clevo at least is just a black laptop. Any reviews on it? It does have a certain appeal and I'd like to see temps. Sold out on newegg but I can wait. If I'm going with a pre-built, newegg is my best bet.Prototime likes this.

Then you should go with Clevo. It's quite low profile.

They probably won't for at least 2-3 months.. Last time, they took something like 6 months to release their BGA junk laptops with Maxwell cards..

Is it worth to pass from a GTX970M OC to the GTX 1060 if the last one costs like 200-300€ more? (i am not interested in VR and am planning to play 1080p only).
From the first benchmarks i can see a difference of 10-25fps in game, i expected more.hmscott likes this. -

You might want to consider getting a stealth wrap from XoticPC, if that's an option for you. I have no experience with the wrap, and it's a bit pricey (not sure if there are other wrapping services out there that are cheaper), but it may help transform something like a flashy ASUS into something more professional looking. I've been considering it because I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to wanting a professional-looking laptop too. http://www.xoticpc.com/stealth-wraps/

Why do most of these new laptops only use the i7-6700HQ? Did they backpedal from the 6820HK or are they going to release them later? Or are they stalling for the i7-7th gen?
Also the chipset is the HM170 which is limiting in terms of PCIe lanes. The CM236 chipset allows for 2 PCIe M.2 drives (20 PCIe lanes total) -

Excellent information, the best kind of information for this thread, potential award for Best Post in Thread (not that hard so far!)! GTX 1070 performing very well, I'm impressed! I do understand where you're coming from though when you're finding it frustrating that it won't hold max boost clocks, perhaps Prema can work some magic!Mr Najsman likes this. -
Wow, yeah. Thanks for the tip...very appealing. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the Clevo P650RS (gtx 1070, $1700) or the 14" MSI ($1500). There's an MSI tax involved there but the form factor is better. Would be nice to be able to work on a plane without concern about breaking my seatback tray.
On the other hand, I can get the clevo and another device, like an MS surface, for working during travel and depositions. I already carry an ipad in addition to my laptop so I'd just change out the ipad for the surface. I don't need massive specs for MS office. My head tells me this is the better plan. My impatient asshole heart tells me get the MSI cause I'll have it by the weekend. lol
Also, with the 14" device i can carry it in my work bag for shorter trips. I won't be saddled with my larger laptop bag. I often fly from JFK to Chicago or FL for an overnight trip, and lugging the big rig adds a whole separate bag. There is some appeal there as well.
I'm really leaning to the MSI. I can always get this wrap treatment, and they did a pretty good job of not making it too obvious that the 36 year old guy in the suit thinks of himself as a l33t G@|\/|3rLast edited: Aug 17, 2016Prototime likes this. -
The weight is about 6.28 lbs. Check the data sheet.
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2016/OMENX/HP-OMEN-Notebook-17-Datasheet.pdf
It's not very attractive comparing to ASUS GL502VS or possible 702VS. -
I'm starting to feel like the resident ASUS-basher, which is totally not my intention because I'm actually considering the 502VM myself, but I want people to be informed:
The VT/VY from before, and the VM/VS now, are *not* the same. The VM is succeeding the VT, and the VS is succeeding the VY. The VM is 6.6mm thinner, and 2.2kg vs 2.3kg according to ASUS. So the info above is not accurate: the VS is not 0.94", it is 1.19" (0.94" should be the VM).
If you read something like notebookcheck, and assuming the info holds for VM/VS as it did VT/VY, then ASUS also understates the weight: the VY (VS) was 2.58kg (5.68lbs) and the VT (VM) was 2.49kg (5.49lbs). Plus another 665g (1.47lbs) for the power adapter.Last edited: Aug 17, 2016 -
Do you know if the 502VM will have the same display as the VT?
-
Nope, I haven't seen a VM review yet and I hope someone does one at some point
However, I will say this: I am no GSYNC guru, but I was under the impression that a special display (certified or different or whatever) was needed for GSYNC, and the VT did not have GSYNC but the VM will, so if I had to put money one way or the other, I'd guess it is a different display.
On the product page, the performance does leave me a little underwhelmed:
http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/ROG-GL502VM/
117.6% of 970M is about 980M performance, the 1060 should have been considerably higher I thought, and closer to 980 desktop. -
Desktop 1060 will be closer to 980, not the mobile one.
-
Correct.
-
Don't expect too much for 1060. 1070 and 1080 are really close to their desktop variants.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk -
Not exactly true, the desktop 1060 beats the 980 in most cases. And if you look at notebookcheck's main article on mobile Pascal:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Nvidia...-1080-SLI-GTX-1070-and-GTX-1060.171566.0.html
you'll see that the 1060 mobile is supposed to be considerably faster than the 980M. Either ASUS has made a little oops on the product page, or there's rather bad throttling happening and they've accounted for that. -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
980M performance? So this means no excuse not to use mxm 3.0b then
1060M should only consume 90w at this performance level...perfect replacement for 970M.
Oh yeah of course greed got the better of them so of course not.....
