I'm not complaining anymore...just asking whether the question mark and the face was directed to the USB or macbook. Sorry if i'm pissing you guys off, but i really suck at this right now. As we speak, i'm putting the drivers onto the cd. Thanks snowsurfer and pete, you've helped me a bunch![]()
(Actually, I'll take snowsurfer's offer to email me the drives. i'm clueless.)

Yo peter, where did you order your T9300 from? 'cause I've been waiting 2 weeks for mine too, lol.
-
Tokay, http://www.lagoom.com/ has both the T8300 and T9300 in stock. I'm the impatient type so I had my T8300 overnighted, but they have several shipping options to choose from. Like I tell my wife, if I had patience, I'd be a doctor.
-
Lagoom no longer has the 8300 in stock. I'm trying to decide if the 9300 is worth the premium.
Can anyone reccommend a good laptop cooler for this laptop, most the ones I've seen are made for 15" and may not be stable enough.
TIA
-
It still shows up in stock for me.
-
might as well spend the money for the 9300 if ur gonna buy the 8300. make it a meaningful one rather then a small upgrade iMO
-
Huzzah! I just downloaded all the drivers that i need for the p6831fx, but the windows welcome center keeps reading the 8800GTS as a standard VGA adapter...or something close to that. Does this mean i have 2 download the drivers from laptop2go? or is it cause i did something wrong?
-
yes i told you in your OTHER thread to download those drivers.
-
My bad T.T well thanks a bunch for helping me out, guys.
-
no problem, its why were here
-
I found it when I search T8300, but not when I filtered Socket P.
Thanks -
I purchased my T9300 here. http://www.priceguidenetwork.com/
Shipped really fast. -
yea, lagoom wanted a money order for out of country orders, and that would add about 50$ more onto the order. I ordered from yesplay.com since a friend bought some stuff from them a while back, but they are being really slow about it.

Hey! I use this forum a lot to advise me about notebook issues and i was wondering if i could get an explanation for something thats been bothering me about my p-6831fx recently. I ran 3dmark06 several times over the past two weeks and have gotten scores like 7001, 7030 and then also scores like 6967 and 6950. I ran 3dmark again today after getting 6967 last night, and got 6907. What's wrong with my laptop?! Or is there anything wrong at all? Please help!
-
Nothing wrong with your laptop, I've always had different scores when running any of the 3dMark benches on any system, seldom ever get the same score twice..something could be running the background, or the bench was after a fresh reboot. A million things could change the score by 1 to 200 pts. Your laptop is fine.
-
Definately nothing is wrong. Since 2 weeks, have you installed any thing on your FX? Probably. Do a clean install and do the test if you are paranoid about 3DMark06. Most likely, you got resident memory programs running in the background. Plus, 3DMark06 scores ranges from 6800~7000 from various people. If you got like 1000 points then you should be worried.
-
how clockable is the GPU in this laptop?
-
In Canada, you can order T9300 from TDDIRECT.COM for $343 + GST + $10 delivery.

Okay so this is pissing me off. There's been certain things that have been bothering me about this laptop. Firstly, its given me the blue screen of death twice (not recently though), and its crashed on me once. Secondly, if i plug in my ethernet cable, i have to restart to get connected to the internet, cause when i plug it in, it connects to two networks and the internet doesn't work. This is somehow solved only by restarting. Then, I just did a scheduled thorough disk check (search for bad sectors selected) and the thing froze while going through clusters (stage 5 of 5) - and yes, it did freeze: no activity and the hard drive process light remained off for about half an hour. and i had to forcefully reboot. Any advice? please? help! (i dont know if this helps, but theres a folder named "QUARANTINE" in my C:\ partition.)
-
p.s. And the folder named quarantine has a ****load of .bup files in it that were already there when i got the laptop
-
OK Guyz here's the thing. I play world of warcraft and in emty areas i have like 50-60 fps but sometimes my fps drops at 3-4 for minute or more and i have a screen flash and then Vista lets me that my nVidia driver has recovered from crash .....and after a few minutes my fps comes back. i have Dell Latitude D820 with Nvidia Quadro NVS 110M and the thing is i can only download drivers from Dell website and seriously they suck and all others drivers for vista. And can't find driver on nvidia site......so if any1 can help pls give me some advice tnx in advance
PS: I tried a few times to download driver from nVidia website but they just point me to dell's website saying its recommended to download from their site

Sounds like your GPU maybe overheating. I would monitor your GPU temp using Rivatuner, ATI Tool or some other monitoring program. Check and make sure your GPU fan is also working.
-
See this guide for monitoring your notebook temps.
-
Mmhmhmhmh.....ok m8 so i instaled riva followed that guide and now i was monitoring my GPU temp and in idle mod its going 68-70 C. So i don't know but think thats a little too much.........but i use my laptop very often so i have that notebook cooler with 2 fans......... and it made life to my CPU cooler lot easier
but i don't know if it affecting GPU cooling :/..........so ur opinion pls
-
Clean the laptop for dust. Look at the vents, open it and apply thermal paste(preferrably Arctic Silver 5) , keep the laptop end raised by 2 inches or so(with a book or something)and if you`re Ocing, which I doubt, lay off a bit.
But my best bet is that you have a lot of dust in the vents
-
68-70 is fine for your GPU. GPUs are designed to work up to 100C, so I would only worry if it got above 85C.

Alright people I am crying UNCLE...
I have been a geek for almost 30 years. I'm a huge fan of blowing computers up on a fairly regular basis since the are NOT like TVs, etc, in that they are not exactly the same every time you start them up. I've built computers from scratch and ran into all kinds of problems that I have been able to fix. This is the first one that I just don't get.
I've searched these forums (as well as LV2G) and followed all of the same instructions to at tee (and there's several versions with regards to installing video drivers). This seems like the best place to ask this question about this laptop vs. starting a new thread in this or the Gateway forum.
This is a straight up out of the box stock machine. Here are my steps:
1. insert Vista DVD - reboot - install Vista on partition 2 (the recovery partition I leave intact)
2. after Vista is installed and the OOBE is through I install the wireless driver from my PSP (it's the newest version from Intel's site) for Internet connectivity
3. Video adapter is identified as standard VGA (with a WIE of 1 - OUCH)
4. download 174.16 Vista driver and modded inf file for x86
5. expand, copy\overwrite inf, use the have disk method, to a tee, failure. Vista reports that I already have the most up to date driver (standard VGA, come on Vista?!)
6. 2nd attempt - I repeat 1 - 3, do all windows updates (including the 8800M GTS driver - I thought Vista liked it as a standard VGA???) and then step 4-5 again. same failure.
All of the other methods do not allow me to update to the 174.1x drivers. I have tried them all. The modded LV2G inf file(s) have entries for the 8800M GTS which I assume mean I should be able to install it after forcing it to continue at the red 'are you sure' screen.
Now I can successfully install 169.09. Have disk, setup program, either way, 169.09 installs fine.
What's up? Please, I've waited for so long to have a PC that can play the games I crave to play, I'm seriously not a noob, I've reinstalled OSes more times that I will ever be able to count. This is my first laptop with the type of hardware installed and I'm just not getting it. Again, if it matters, I'm starting with an out of the box none hardware upgraded system using the included Vista HP DVD to install fresh Vista on partition 2 (partition 1 is the recovery partition that I leave intact). -
I'm guessing here, but, are you absolutely sure you downloaded the Vista drivers and not the XP drivers? I know you said Vista...
I'm running 169.09 but waiting for dust to settle on newer driver.
Good Luck -
-
Everyone would be broke if they had your mind set. hahaha
-
I am using Windows Update video drivers, 167.56 with DX10 driver. Works fine on all games I play. Will update to whatever the version may be when the current drivers I am using stops working.
I recommend this to everyone who is having problems trying to get modified drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. FYI, my machine never had problems installing mod drivers. Installed 169.09, 169.28...171.xx then did my Windows Update and saw a set of video drivers there... I said yeah... installed... crap lower version... then got tired of installing various drivers. If there is performance loss, I don't see it. I don't care much for 1-2fps loss. -
I am curious....If I follow the instructions here on my making this apps/drivers recovery dvd, will this + the included OS dvd = what's on the recovery partition. Is it safe to wipe the recovery partition after making the apps/driver recovery dvd? Or should I just use some program like acronis true image and make a backup of the actual partition onto dvd or whatever and then wipe it. Long story short...I wanna wipe the recovery partition
I searched the forums and haven't really found anything about doing this or if it's safe to wipe it. I just know that I would always like to have my laptop "factory fresh" if it needs to be.
First post, glad to be here on these forums. And also glad I'm a proud new owner of the 6831FX. Lots of good info here about it.
Thanks
Stephen -
once you make the disks its safe to delete the partition

so if you didn't all notice, best buy brought the price back down to normal. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8651167&type=product&id=1195599780039
-
DUH! The sale was Monday to Saturday
-
I've stress RTIBHDRLed and 3DM06ed it with a mild oc to 600/900, no problems, no artifacts.
And temps didn't change much.
Of course YMMV. -
You are not the only one with this problem with the 174.xx drivers. I can get the 173.xx to install fine, but nothing newer. Unfortunately, I too get asked silly questions ("You sure you downloaded the Vista version?"), but no real help. I have searched, and personally come up with no answers. The only fix i have seen is a reinstall of vista, something I don't feel like wasting my time on yet...
-
umm without the sale its still back down to its original price, not the 1600 bud

I OCed to 600/950 with no problems and no temp raise at all....kinda wierd
-
Just curious if you monitored your gpu temps after gaming for an hour or 2, or running 3dmark06 several times in a row. I know my load temps took a nasty jump after 3 loops with 3dmark.
-
i gamed for half an hour, and temps did not change, and they do not change on idle either...
-
Hmmm....sounds like something is not working correctly, there should be some type of change.
-
Not necesarily...
Maybe he didnt notice if the fans where on higher ... idk...
Its not that much of an overclock anyways... right? -
from 500/800 yeah it sorta is
-
That's a very good overclock for a GPU, especially without any type of modded cooling like you would have in a desktop system.
-
Not a bad OC, indeed. Should get your a nice improvement overall, but the temp thing is weird. No way you can OC and not get bigger temps, that is physically impossible. Unless on the non OCed version temps were low enough so the fans would not kick in on high , and now they`re bigger and the fans kick in at high and keep temps at about the same level...
Maybe some wookie charm in that laptop afterall
-
When I was overclocking my P-6831fx I saw the same thing, there was some increase in heat but it was barely noticeable. The cooling system on the laptop is one of the best I've seen, think about people with the x205's with the single 8700m. They've been able to overclock by huge amounts because of the cooling system on the laptop. Since the 8800m gts shouldn't use much more power than the 8700m I'd think it should overclock just as nicely.
-
I saw a little rise as well. Here's my logs from the other night;
