Just dropped in the t7500 2.2ghz also. My 3DMark06 score went from 7001 to 8291 ,, I Used the stock drivers both times.
I just installed Core Temp,, At Idle the cpu range is 37c-41c . This program can keep a log if its turned on , After running 3Dmark06 I checked the log and the CPU's temp hung around 60c . It did max out at 68c a few times .. I don't know how accurate core temp is but is 68c high enough to be concerned ?
-
I was amazed, I installed the trusty 169.09 and it really woke up the game, it had a lot of stutter with the stock driver, fun game!
-
You know, thats within shooting distance of the 8800M GTX benched here:
http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3196&p=6
It got 8618. Same CPU as you. Doesn't seem to be too much of a speed difference between the 8800GTS and GTX.
N -
Probably Anandtech benchmark was done in higher resolution (1280x1024), because LCD in tested laptop is 1920x1200.
-
I think you mean 1440x900, which means it will run at 1280x854. So, you're right, there will be a slight difference due to that, but I'm not sure its all that dramatic.
N -
3dmark06 default is 1280x1024. Most if not, all the reviewers tests in default in 3dmark06. Some will test in other res like 1920x1200 and they usually states that its at so and so res.
Could you guys with upgraded their CPU, take screenshot of 3dmark06 result and post it please? Has the benchmark on GPU side went up respectively with increased in CPU speed? Thanks! -
I dont know if it makes any difference, but I see somewhere that Gateway advertises the 8800m gts is factory overclocked in this notebook.
Whatever that means is unknown. Is the clocked speed same as other 8800m gts? -
It just make me feel good when it says WidowPC Sting 517D2 is priced at $3400
-
After reading all this thread and others,
I presume that we customers can upgrade CPU, HDD and Memory, right? -
you can upgrade pretty much everything on that. ram, hdd, cpu, etc.
i think that with better drivers and overclocking and such, both the GTS and GTX might be able to break the 10k mark on 3dmark06 -
There are no overclocks on the p-6831fx
-
I have 3DMark06 Advanced so I can view my scores/details ,,But I can't figure out how to "capture" the image to post it here.. What's the easiest/best way ?
-
I know that this question would require some speculation, but how long do you think that bestbuy will keep the fx in stock and at that price? how long does bestbuy usually keep laptops.
Stumpie: did you try print screen -
Press "PRT SCR" - Print Screen button next to scroll lock. Look for the .bmp file maybe under c:\windows. Use accessories->paint to open the image and shrink it to like quarter of the screen 8"x10" save as .jpg. Then post another reply and click 'manage file' upload and voila. Well almost. If you can't figure it out, just tell me the SM2/SM3/CPU values
Thanks!

Update: xp drivers are coming along nicely. I started following a guide for the x205 with xp install. There is actually a fix that turns one of the missing device drivers from "PCI?" to HD audio device. As soon as I get these working I'll post a new guide on how to install xp on the laptop.

great thread. i have had one of these laptops about 2 weeks.. thanks to this thread i took the first one back cause no matter what i did.. i could only post about 58-5900 3dmarks on the thing and that seems to be subpar.. so i exchanged and the new one posted 7043 right outta the box.. http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13514203
anyhow i put a t7700 in it .. even tho its kinda pricey..and got 8524 3dmark on only run thru..
http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13626376
it brought my windows experience up on the CPU from 4.7 to 5.3 and my RAM score up from 4.5 to 4.7... i would LOVE to get that ram score up to 5 but i just cant see it .. i only have the stock ram thats in it, though i have another 2 g i can throw in it if i wanted i just dont see the rush..
anyhow.. this is a great f laptop for the money...even after i dropped 330$ on t7700 upgrade.. this thing is still cheaper than that toshiba with the dual sli8600's and the 7250, and wayy more machine.. granted it lacks hd dvd and fingerprint reader but who really needs it.. im definately pleased with my purchase.. and really glad i ran into this thread while it was still brand new.. it contains a PLETHORA of information.. if you havent read the entire thing i recommend it.. takes a little bit but good reading

Where can you guys get all the mobile CPUs?
Ebay? I dont like ebay much.
Anywhere in Canada you guys recommend? -
http://tddirect.ca/category/?minorcatid=1079&vendorid=1216
Somewhat on-par with newegg.com plus, I don't know anyone else who sells mobile cpus in Canada. -
thanks for the update on installing XP cuz right now i don't really care about bench mark scores because those change as you upgrade and currently i'm running everything on stock so as soon as i manage to change to XP i will then care about performance
BTW - i hear that crysis runs better in vista. is this true? -
http://www.tddirect.ca/products/2595/BX80537T7500/INTEL MOBILE CPUS ONLY/
looks like the best for buck now. 270$ for 2.2 G. How fast is td's shipping?
I am trying hold myself until the t9300 is out, any info on the availability of that cpu? -
use -dx9 to force crysis to run on DX9. It will run about 10% faster. With XP, it will run 15% faster.
-
benchmarks in xp with a 9262 with a 8800m gtx showed a little more than 20% fps increase in xp. On top of that the rumors I've heard about vista sp1 state that its a security patch not a performance patch.
-
tddirect ships as fast as NCIX. They are own by same guy after all. So it should ship next day or two.
Yea, for me, this little CPU does everything I wanted to. So, I don't need to upgrade right now. Maybe I will do it just so I can have bragging rights
-
TD ca has mobile cpus while ncix doesn't really carry. I wonder if I special order it from ncix, would they get it from TD ca and i can pick it up in store to avoid shipping?
-
btw, all t9xxx series are socket P, right?
but not all t7500+ are socket P, right? -
http://www.ncix.com/products/index....80537T7500&manufacture=INTEL MOBILE CPUS ONLY
NCIX price is $285.11 + 1-2weeks waiting time since its not in stock. -
-
wiki shows me there is 2 variation of t9300:
FCBGA6 and socket P and have different Voltage spec. -
how can you be sure it's socket P?
-
Why does 3DMark06 read your processors as an E4300 and an E6600 and not a T-series? I'm guessing it's just basing it on your processors' speeds. I'm glad to hear you're pleased with it, I'm holding out for P-171X FX (WUXGA) first impressions.
-
This is what I got from intel :
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/mobile/core2duo/sb/CS-023116.htm
Could try asking guys who upgraded to T7500/T7700 to post their Boxed/OEM order code on their CPU box. -
Man , I figured out how to print screen , When you hit Fn & PrtSc it "copys" ,, Then all you have to do is "Paste" where you want it to go ..
Anyways ,, Here ya go ..
-
That 1200 points increase was only with processor change?
-
that i cannot answer.. installed the gateway updated graphics driver and that fixed the generic vga driver or adapter, whicheveri forget
it was recognizing it as before... didnt change the benchmarks tho.
-
If you compare T5450 to T7500, you get 500 point increase in CPU and 700 increase in sm2/sm3.
-
Just to add some 3dmark06 scores :
8800m GTS w/T5450
SM 2.0 Score 3284 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 3450 Marks
CPU Score 1463 Marks
3DMark Score 7043 3DMarks
8800m GTS w/T7500
SM 2.0 Score 3807 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 3783 Marks
CPU Score 1935 Marks
3DMark Score 8291 3DMarks
8800m GTS w/T7700
SM 2.0 Score 3846 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 3794 Marks
CPU Score 2120 Marks
3DMark Score 8524 3DMarks
By looking at this picture, it looks like 8800m GTS has almost max out with C2D 2400mhz. I am sure if T9300, 2500mhz, is compatible with FX, it will be perfect match for 8800m GTS. -
Lost 100pts of 3dMarks moving to the 169.28 Drivers. But I here they are required for better DX10 performance and they also help with some stability & shudder issues. Is this true?
Also... Tweaking my GPU as I type on my desktop. Just curious to know what people has been able to OC their GPU Core & Vid Mem to on the 8800m GTS -
i wonder how the new penryn processors are going to do. there shipping with the t8300 2.4 but anyway. how is the xp coming along. and what tutorial were you reading..
-
do you think this unit will support an upgrade to the new quad core mobile cpu's that are coming out later this year?:confused2:
-
as long as they use the p socket this thing can use any processor. Unless it consumes too much power which is very unlikely
-
$1249 + Tax + Another $300 for a CPU upgrade is a bit too much for me to swallow. I could justify if it came with at least a T7250, but it is sad this comes with such a crappy processor.
-
I like that it comes with a crappy processor for those who want to focus on gaming...keeps the cost down. Also you can configure it with a better processor online.
-
With gateway's warranty service, I wouldn't O/C my laptop.
-
If that is too much for you to swallow, then you shouldn't be looking into gaming laptop. My XPS m1710 cost me more than $3k. -
the upgrade is unnecessary for gaming because you can run most games on it perfectly fine so....
-
Agreed. The reason it is getting higher synthetic benchmarks is because 3DMark tests your CPU. Games do not rely much on the CPU. Thinking about buying one of these for the wife. Maybe I'll just swap her...
-
Ya I was thinking about buying a T9300 sometime soon after purchase when they become available.
But now.... I might wait a long time till maybe even price drops. It performs just fine
One thing I noticed Although Half Life 2 is considered old the laptop doesn't even heat up enough for the fans to turn up speed... so far that is lol.
Its like ehhh NO SWEAT!
the old mobile x700 could get pretty warm to hot in it.
I've been starting to reinstall my old games
I actually havnt gamed all that much on it yet.
IN games where it does heat up u dont notice it as much as my old laptop either.
The board would get pretty hot on my old one. You could cook on my old laptop lol.
This one does a good job so far of keeping the heat away from you. -
as long as its dual core you'll be fine. the gateway will let you play pretty much every recent game on max (except crysis). cpu is usually for multitasking purposes and i doubt you'll be running a bajillion apps while playing a game
-
Just picked mine up a few hours ago. It has some issues tho, not sure yet if they are hardware or software related. Got a wonderful score of 741 in 3dmark 06, and it seems to have some serious issues accessing almost anything on the HD. Took almost 2 minutes to save the 3dmark install file after downloading it.
Working on cleaning it up at the moment, tons and tons of bloatware junk on it.
Oh, windows score was 4.5 due to the RAM, all else was great. Tried playing Unreal Tournament 3 on it, took forever to load, but zero lag while in game.
Maybe an antivirus or something checking files? -
once you remove crapware it should give better performance. with 3gb ram it gives 4.5??? boy vista just sucks. i believe UT3 just has long load time, but performance was excellent im betting. have you tried playing oblivion or anything like that on it on max? please let me know if you do. anywho, congrats on the notebook!
