It's irrelevant whether you'll be doing 4k or FHD content, the problem lies within the display's construction matrix. The cells simply cannot refresh faster than 40 ms grey to grey. That is the worst possible hypothetical scenario, but still, you're better knowing this.
And this is what I'm going to do. Impossible to get over this, I'll just get an external display.
It can, but the worst case scenario disables it from doing more than 40ms of refresh rate. I'm a bit angered myself, as I really needed a 4K display with 60fps, then when I read most reviews on laptop displays on notebookcheck, as they measure both rise and fall time, I was disapointed.
Of course, most people will be able to use a 4k screen without having to notice this, the subjective impression over current 4k screens in laptops is that they're amazing, no need to have too much fear over this physical limitation, just saying, they're not fully ready yet.

The new laptops with Pascal are coming very soon guys!

Hopefully, biggest hint has been Sager stopping to sell the P640/650RE..

When Sager stopped selling the P640RE, I got hyped.
1060 replaces 970M -> 970M was in P640RE -> new 14" notebook could have 1060 -> 14" of Maxwell-killing, near-GTX 980-levels of power.
In literally one generation, we have a notebook that's 3x as powerful as its predecessor. I think it's time I bade farewell to my good old W230SS.Last edited: Jul 24, 2016jaybee83, Prototime, spmo and 1 other person like this. -
Faster!
Faster!
But seriously, I kind of have a thinking thing. It seems that 1060 laptops will be about 980 levels, but it seems that all of the cards above it will not be more than 50% stronger. Is this correct, or have I misread something?Ionising_Radiation likes this. -

Not really sure. I think the 1080 on notebooks would probably approach ~ 80-90% of the desktop 1080's performance.
At any rate, it seems like this time, the 1060 will be nVidia's bestselling GPU, both on desktop and notebooks.Georgel likes this. -
Don't hold your breath my friend...it won't be refreshed alongside the first wave Pascal announcement...Ethrem, hmscott, Georgel and 1 other person like this.

When is the 1st wave oh great Prema? Come on give us some hints! I'm sure you can do so now!

Of course not. But even the announcement of just the GPUs themselves is worth getting excited over.
-
Probably will every OEM's push out everything they have of BGA machines with old tech first. Nvidia know this very well and wait!!Georgel likes this.

You can expect the launch of new laptops and GPU's around PAX West. The announcements are coming within a couple weeks, which is great.

So you may not get the Pascal laptop before Sept.?
-
As long as they add in hdmi 2.0 in the pascal laptops I'll be very happy. Some games just limit to 30fps on my 4K tv. And is annoying because games like street fighter v NEED to be at 60fps so I can't play it till then

They will be for sale in August but won't start shipping out until September. So, nope.
The only people I would see having them in August are the major reviewers or people who are sponsored / partners. -
I hate that people xD.

Here, I fixed the crucial part.

That should be fine as long as they take orders at August.

The current gen P870DM, P775DM1, P770DM, P750DM all have HDMI 2.0 output. I can confirm this with my laptop as well so you should be good to go with the next wave of laptops.
-
Well I can assure you it happens so rarely that I've never noticed it becoming choppy when displaying 60fps. It looks the same as any of the lesser resolution displays I've had in the past when displaying 60Hz. No need to worry about it, honest
Still, my next laptop will not be 4K because I'd prefer to have a G-SYNC capable display and as far as I know G-SYNC is incompatible with 4K in laptops because it needs 75Hz+.Georgel likes this. -
Apologies for going a bit off topic, but how is the Sharp IGZO panel treating you? I'm expecting my P750DM with it and I know its beautiful but I'd like to hear from an actual owner
-
How important is g-sync? I mean, I couln't test that technology it and I want a full gaming laptop, that's why I'm waiting for Pascal...
-
Just to add, only the Samsung 4K panel supports g-sync as far as I am aware.Georgel likes this.

Then correction, speaking only about 15.6" screens

Those i dont know much about

That's the only thing that put me off the p640re and msi gs40 plus the fact I had the 970m twice before.
The refreshes interest me. Designs aside frontage two. I'll choose the one that has hdmi 2.0. But I'll also hope to see gigabyte, aorus and maybe overpriced razed blade depending on its gpu. They are all 14". So theres room in all5 to impress my wallet

HDMI 2.0 on a P640RE refresh would be excellent, especially alongside Thunderbolt 3 and longer battery life. Assuming it comes with a 1060 mobile or better, I'd be sold.

I would prefer to see HDMI 2.1 for dynamic metadata. If you don't know what this is, it basically gives you an experience very similar to that of G-Sync.* Not exactly that, but that's how I like to explain it, in terms of best picture quality.
*For those sticklers out there whom love to jump to conclusions and/or make assumptions - I know it is not G-Sync.
I just used that as an odd form of analogy.

Haha, yep, as you say Dynamic Metadata has absolutely nothing to do with G-Sync, I had to look it up to find out what it was! For the benefit of others here's a bit on Dynamic Metadata (1st post): https://www.avforums.com/threads/new-hdmi-2-1-standard-said-to-improve-hdr-support.2027077/Georgel likes this. -

Hello community
I have a Clevo P771DM-G, with a I7 6700K, and a GTX 980M, is it possible that the 1080M or 1070M or 1060M, fit on this machine?
Should i sell my laptop and buy the Clevo P775DM1-G, that brings a GTX980, to be more easy for swaping to an 1080?
Thank you in advance -
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Just sell and wait until mid-August / early September to grab one with a 1080.
-
Al_Jourgensen Notebook Consultant
But could it be possible to put an 1080M in the P771DM-G?
-
It may fit but may not work (BIOS). We don't know for sure.
-
Al_Jourgensen Notebook Consultant
ok, so probably an update of the BIOS could fix it......i bought it in march, and now i have to sell it...again same thing........it was supposed to support them.....at least, was what my seller said, that people was buying the P771DM-G with the GTX970M now, to change it for an 1080M latter......i don´t know if this is true......or if he lied to me, just to sell the notebook......
-
A lot of people have trouble with upgrading because of the BIOS. Eventually someone may release a custom BIOS to work (worst case scenario), but I would not hold on to the notion that it will be a "plug n' play" upgrade. It's rarely that simple.
If I were you, I'd either sell it now to squeeze a little more money out of it and then wait for the 1080M or 1080, or just keep the laptop and wait to see if it's upgradeable. -

yes i know.....sellers.......bunch of liars.......... -

You do understand that you're having a very strong laptop, no?
Like, the investition was not a bad one. Not to mention that a single 980 card costs about 1000$, it's never that easy when buying something.
Actually, when buying something, you should always assume that you won't be able to upgrade at all. This way, you won't ever be disapointed, and you can plan ahead with better care. -
Desktops are almost always upgradeable. Maybe you need a cheap laptop for work and a decent gaming desktop for home? That's what I'll be doing soon! More bang for your buck, too.

I would wait, Prema BIOS should support the card and usually even if stock BIOS doesn't support new GPU, in new Clevos like P771DM, the GPU will work, you will just need to mod drivers which is fine.. I would say the worry for me will be if there is a GPU that fits the standard MXM slot in P771 as all the leaks point to non standard sizes but we don't know.. Anyways hold on I would say or sell now and get what you can..

yes i know my friend, that´s why i bought it with this specs, for future upgrades, and the seller was so convincing, that i get out of the store, believing that a future GPU card, could fit in this system......but i guess not.......but he tell´s me to wait until October, and that the 1080M cards will be compatible......how can he know this?......it´s a liar, or he doesn´t understand nothing about what he is talking, because he is saying this to every single person that goes there to buy a P771DM.....Georgel likes this. -
Which reseller is this if I may ask?

Too early to hang oneself over this, be patient, it's too late to sell for a good return.
All the new releases will have new model numbers, but MXM cards may be freely available too.Georgel and Al_Jourgensen like this. -
