The price is in US or CAD ?

Nice find! If I had to guess, the 502VM is the thinner one and the 502VS is the thicker one then
-
Those are Canadian prices all right. Lol take off 25-30% to get the USD.

Around $1.5k US Dollar for the 1060 laptop.. not too bad when its Asus which is always overpriced their stuffs alot.
-
2000usd for 1070 laptop. Not so bad.

In an official review format, this is the closest thing I've found. They mentioned that the "970M puts out raw heat" and that there's no escaping it. I don't know what "raw heat" they think a 970M does compared to other mobile cards we've had in the past, but whatever.
I'm certain what I saw people talking about were from regular users who just got the machine directly. I've seen no actual reviews pop up, though the minute they announced it I did remember laughing. -
As far as I have read, the Aero 14s CPU is what hits 90+ degrees under load, resulting in throttling.

I'm not sure that I agree with all the talk that Pascal in mobile is gonna be hard to cool. I think desktop Pascal is hard to cool because it's operating at a fairly inefficient place on the Mhz/voltage scale - i.e. they've pushed the cores to their max, which is why there's not much headroom for overclocking those desktop GPU's. I think they've done this to decrease costs - less cores/less silicon/less complexity per GPU. I'm thinking that the laptop versions of these desktop GPUs will be operating at a lot lower voltages (& Mhz) & consequently will be operating in a more efficient place on the Mhz/voltage scale - I think they're gonna be cooled ok. I understand the argument that the heat density is greater because the surface area of the chips are smaller...but still, I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by how well some laptops can cool these GPUs.
-
Wow, that GL502VS - GTX 1070 isn't half bad. (For my needs I don't need 32GB DDR4, hope there is maybe a variant with half that to shave off a lil bit of money). I'll still wait for reviews before making a final decision.
-
Yup, I've seen that one... Thank you though

One of the good guys Notebook Consultant
So like I said in an earlier post (probably about 10 pages away by this time) I'm looking to replace my dead 17" laptop with a new 17" laptop. Hoping to spend ~$800, not more than $1000, that would put me at a 960M right now, but I was advised to wait. I'm guessing from what things look like now the 1050 will be the likely GPU for my budget? Also, when do you think the 1050 laptops will start to be available?
From what I'm reading here it seems that at least the 1060, 1070, and 1080 will be announced soon, but that the mid-tier cards will be later. When is your best estimate on when those will come out?hmscott likes this. -

I guess we'll see official announcement for ASUS laptops with Pascal soon.

The official ASUS website does not list any GPU because they're under NDA until the announcement. I'm skeptical of all these pre-order websites, and you should be, too.Kade Storm and Mr. Fox like this. -
Yes sir, under $1000 will place you in 1050 territory. As for dates, I haven't seen any leaks yet :/hmscott likes this.

Actually, I made a big excel file with all gaming laptops for comparisons purposes and I know that page very well - the VT is the old model, and it said "NVIDIA , with 3GB/6GB GDDR5 VRAM" months ago when I visited as well. Further, I don't think we expect 3/6GB do we?
-
What kind of price drop can we expect in the upcoming weeks for the 960m and 970m laptops ?
Surely if the gtx 1060 laptops are priced around $1500 which is the price of current 970m laptops those 970m would have to be reduced to clear stocks no ? Any chance to get a 970m laptop for $1000 in september ? -
The current cheap laptops are stock-clearing for Maxwell.deadsmiley likes this.
-
So you're saying no further discount for the 900 series ?
Will they automatically stop selling maxwell laptop ? Would they actually sell 970m laptops alongside the new 1060 laptops at the same price ? -
Not bad cheers. Still I have not been able to find a similar offer in France
-
That $800-$1000 budget doesn't give you any kind of shot at a new Nvidia Pascal GPU bearing laptop...
But after the announcement the prices of Maxwell GPU laptops will go down again, and you might even swing a 970m in the $1000 range:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/466732/ROG_G751JT-WH71(WX)_173_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Black
We have no idea when anything is shipping, let alone getting announced, for any Pascal laptop. Everything is rumor, and the 1050/1040 aren't even getting rumors yet. -

An ASUS laptop with an 1070 in it for less than $2,000?
Not a chance. I fully expect and predict that any ASUS/Sager/ MSI configured Laptop with a 1070 in it will go for nothing less than $2800. -
-
Yup, I'm with you there, I'm not sure why someone would say $2800 when every leaked/early preorder page thus far has indicated that 2000-2200 is the likely price band at launch.
-
Yeah, with those pre-ordered sites on previous posts. I believe my hope can come true.
-
Here, look. Like I said, launch on the 16th of August. https://gaming.msi.com/promotion/alter-your-reality
Now you will see your prices from Mr. Overpriced aka MSIMr Najsman, CaerCadarn, TBoneSan and 6 others like this. -
There was a post about this event.
Yeah, MSI is usually overpriced. I will stick with ASUS ROG -
I'm ready. 2K for ASUS 1070.
-
What game is in that MSI link?
-
There was a leaked ASUS ROG model GTX 1070, 32GB RAM for ~$1950 .If we shaved off 16GB RAM, it could be less than $1900 , i think so.
-
Both ASUS and MSI are overpriced when you consider that they are emasculated with a BGA CPU, crippled TDP and cannot be fully serviced or upgraded with the CPU welded to the motherboard. And, if you draw a short straw in the silicon lottery, then you're really screwed... with no way to fix it.
CaerCadarn, deadsmiley, TBoneSan and 7 others like this. -
Nice! Love the count down clock. Interesting that it's coming before Gamescom. Even more interesting that this count down clock doesn't violate an NDA.
...unless this is all an elaborate ruse, and MSI is just planning to release a new "generation" of Maxwell laptops
"We promised you two generations of upgradability! Well, here's another one for you: Maxwell Generation 2.0!"
...nah...

Thing is, CPUs are a lot more resilient than GPUs. Given a choice between BGA CPU and BGA GPU, I'd take the former.
P.S. I know you'd say BGA neither, but this is assuming we only have 2 choices
Robbo99999 and Mr. Fox like this. -
Not to mention ASUS quality is suspect and their systems are made to be ridiculously difficult to clean.
-
Personally, I would advise against buying Asus gear after the state of their (900 series) & seeing the reviews of their RX 470.
I don't understand what they are playing at especially as they market their stuff at people who overclock.

Announcing first day when I start school again awesome
-
Even if you are lucky in the silicon lottery with a **** BGA... There are still a stillborn crippled product from Intel. Even more stillborn that OEM's will use them!! Big No thanks!!
-
That is true, they are a whole lot more resilient, but resilient doesn't mean extremely powerful and totally unlocked.
Assuming BGA either one is the only choice, then I will buy a $150 candy colored red or blue Inspiron for web browsing and email in my recliner, then build a desktop and just wash my hands of expensive laptops forever. BGA is not an option unless it is ridiculously cheap to the point that if it functions every time you press the power button that's good enough. If it lasts a year and dies, no biggie... you simply toss it into the dumpster behind Wal-Mart, walk in, buy another one and take it home. Kind of like socks and underwear, or disposable baby diapers.
That's just me and my own personal opinion, and how I will address the tragedy if Clevo stops selling good laptops with socketed desktop CPUs. Now, if the folks at MSI would pull their heads out and drop a 6700K or a 6900K or something even more awesome like an X99 Octacore CPU with a fully unlocked BIOS and remove the power handling limits on the Titan, then I might be tempted to pause and consider the possibility of an option besides Clevo.Last edited: Aug 5, 2016Georgel, deadsmiley, TBoneSan and 4 others like this. -
I will not buy anything if all you can get, is BGABOOK'S / Laptops with nice socket hardware + crippled firmware. I will take good care of my laptops I already have and use them for many many years. What good is it with nice socket hardware in laptops if the firmware will be totally locked? This will come!!

Don't forget the 460M in my M17xR3 guys.
It's a beast when it comes to playing CSGO competitively though (because of the 120Hz screen) and as it turns out, I'm quite good at playing it just because I can't play anything else on my system and I played the game for over 1500 hours!
My next laptop will have a 120Hz panel and a 1080 running under the watchful eyes of some Prema witchcraft!

CSGO is meant to be played in very low settings because it's a competitive shooter and the fluidity of the game dictates how's far you can get in the game. Most of pro players play at a resolution of 1280*780 with black bars on the side. I play at 1080p with all of the in-game settings turned down to low (it actually makes seeing the enemy more clearer) and get about 120-150fps most of the time.
I still play Skyrim at high settings on this system and I have to say, I am still not tired of this game.

I was ready to pull the trigger on an SLI 780M Sager when they were pulled from reseller sites. When it came back the 860M, 870M and 880M were the available options for MXM systems. There may have been some soldered GPU systems left over that were on sale but I was not looking for those.

The thing is, if they stop selling 960m and 970m laptops (currently around $800 to $1000) to put the 1060 in the new laptops (expected at $1500) there would not be any products for the $1000 range which is for many people (including myself tbh) kind of the limit for their budget.
