See, the ZM early boards, at least on 770, were all lvds. This means buying the eDP variant at $325 or soldering, plus a new display and cable, plus card, plus heatsink

Isn't AW18 and M18x series eDP? Or they were all LVDS?
-
-
I guess the Alienware machines which had the 120Hz option only have the eDPs, M17x R4 and Alienware 17 both have eDP ports, AW17 does have for sure & I don't see that on the AW18 mobo.
EDIT :
From a quick search I found this guide and only one video where they only address the LVDS port but cannot get a full shot of MoBo in either of those, If the laptop had the 120Hz choice even when the 780M was released then there should be an eDP port else EOL. Sorry.Last edited: Aug 12, 2016 -
NVIDIA supporting eDP encourages the ODM's to start pushing out higher resolution and refresh rate displays.

that really blows. Maxwell is end of the line for all legacy systems, what a shame. Time to pick up a M17x R4 since it can use eDPGeorgel, ajc9988, Ashtrix and 1 other person like this. -
What about the MSI GT60 with a 4th gen i7? Does it have an eDP? It originally came with a FHD. I haven't bothered to check my notebook since I bought it
-
True. But I'm not complaining! I don't have a gaming PC, so it doesn't affect me much.
I imagine something along these lines will change again with Volta. That's when I'll complain. -
So my panel is eDP but the cards won't fit. Thanks Nvidia. Oh well, maybe I'll just part it out and sell the 980Ms and the 4940MX. Probably get more that way than selling it as a full system.

It really doesn't matter. Even if the legacy systems had eDP, the (Pascal)cards probably won't fit. ZM-Series at best....
Even my P570WM which sports eDP is most probably screwed! -
HP's 8740w till 8770w have pure DP (for DreamColor) and LVDS. ZBooks switched to eDP only. M6600 has eDP (for PremierColor) and LVDS and I would guess that the design was kept till eventually switching to eDP only. The question about fitting remains though.

A DM machine is confirmed to work with the card. Considering it is a year and a half old, I'd expect support (which you need a new heatsink and the new one looks to handle heat A LOT BETTER, so I was looking forward to the upgrade). Some of the other machines mentioned are older than that, some aren't. But that is the rub with me! I know it fits. I know a new heatsink with better heat dispersion will be available. BUT, I'd damn near have to pay for a new machine to get it! At that point, sell this beast and purchase a new DM2 is more cost effective as proceeds from the sale + upgrade costs = maxed out config. (Talking barebones, max on GPU, buying ram and CPU aftermarket to get fastest ram at a good price and a silicon lottery chip (or equivalent binned chip))...
-
So I went back and forth reading the previous 40 pages, and still no leaks for the lower end Pascal GPUs.
I'm on a very tight budget. I still don't know whether I should wait for laptops with the 970M to be put on sale, or just grab a 965M for 950 Euros... -
They're announcing them next week. Guess you missed that?
-
Let me see costs and we can discuss you purchasing my ZM with a 980M, a cherry 4790K, Kingston ram running stable 2400MHz DDR3, if interested. I don't know your time frame though... Pm me if you want to talk...

So we know for sure that nvidia is announcing lower-end GPUs next week? The 1050ti and 1050? I don't recall confirmation of that.
-
I'm not pro spending cast cash. But if you want to enjoy something with all its glory. You gotta spend the cash. If netbooks and videos is your thing then that's fine. I look for the best I'm willing to spend my limit on. But people are free to spend it if they earned it.
Who knows. After your school is over and your in a nice job. You might just be like dr see and buy a $21000 car cash out right and a $5000 next big big from nvidia.
But for me you can't do all of what you want on a netbook so if you can afford it. Just get what you can.
But I seriously hope you never financed to by a netbook

Dunno, if I will jump on the Pascal-Train. Rather would go with Volta and Cannonlake next time.
NGreedia and INTELligence can **** my *Peep*! Jumpin on every 3 Gen's should suffice!

With how powerful Pascal is, I'd imagine they will table the lower end chips for a few months to try to get people into 1060 machines. They will definitely cannibalize sales of the 1060 if they come out the door swinging with 1050 and under too.

This. You might be waiting a while longer, @SkidrowSKT, for GPUs lower than the 1060 to be announced and then make their way into laptops. Then again, you might not actually find discounts on 970M laptops, at least not unused laptops. Sager and XoticPC have simply stopped selling some of them, such as the Clevo P640RE and the MSI GS40, and never offered discounts. So something to keep in mind.

There's a small promotion from MSi for buying lower-end tier Maxwell laptops from Aug 9 to Oct 3. We maybe able to see lower tier Pascal by then? I could be wrong, but just an opinion.

I really hope we will be able to see a GTX 1060 in thinner laptops. If I have to buy a big, bulky laptop, I'll rather just skip getting one at all. Recent leaks shows the 1060 mobile will have a 75w TDP, compared to 65w TDP on 960m, and 81w TDP on 970m. So it will be intresting to see how thin they dare to go.

As far as I know, the NVIDIA GamesCom announcement will be primarily focused on the new "desktop mobile" cards coming out. And then about a week later (before September), they'll be launching additional cards out of the blue, like the Titan X (Pascal) was. This is speculation based on rumor, so probably not true.

I've got to get in on this 666 action, which is Pascal mobile EOL for many notebooks out there! (Made it relevant)!!!

I can wait an extra week or two, so let's hope the rumors turns out to be true! Actually I thought they would delay the announcement of lower-end cards even longer.
I showed up at this topic exactly at page 666, coincidence? Don't be so sure
-
Even if they don't announce any other cards - which I don't see why not at such a big event - we'll at least know more about which laptops and what prices [exactly] will be offered. The NDA's will be officially lifted and all companies may start selling!

So.. Guys... We should stop being so OT for a bit, and focus on the news!
Pascal will be here soon!
All shops in Romania have sales now on maxwell, (it started with just a few)
The big news is that this means PAscal is drawing very close on all laptops, not only Clevo and MSI.
No words on price and date yet, but I'll be sure to ask some insider friends and see what news I can bring to the table.jaybee83, Ionising_Radiation and sisqo_uk like this. -
Same here. 2 retailers have already started kicking sales on their maxwell 965M and 970M laptops (although only 10% off, it still counts).
More sales are coming!Georgel likes this. -
Guys... I've heard from 2 people that the end date for the NDA is the 16th. Pretty much confirmed since everything pointed towards that date till now. Get ready

If the 1050 is anounced in a few weeks we haven't heard of it at all for the specs. Leaks of specs for the mobile 1060 and 1070 started almost a couple of months ago so a release of mid-range pascal soon seems unlikely. Unless they didn't say anything on purpose to focus the hype on the 1060/1070...
Can we expect the 1050 to be at the level of a 970m ?Ionising_Radiation likes this. -

Yup, I'm 99% sure now too, those Amazon links saying "This item will be released on August 16, 2016." that have still not been taken down were proof enough for me

HP has another 25% or 30% off coupon going on this next week, for those of you on a budget wanting a 960M laptop for cheap (I feel like it applies to so few of us). It seems HP comes out with those every 2-3 weeks or so anyway, at least this time of year.
I'd hate to find out that the 1050 will not be available or in my budget for a long time (like next year) then decide to settle for the 960M and miss out on this current deal (you can get a i7 6700-HQ, 17" 4k display, 8 GB ram, and 1 TB 7200rpm HDD + 128 GB SSD, and a 4GB 960M for $903). -
not in France you can't ahaha
Here we can see the first 970m at €999 but they are 15", i5-6300hq, no ssd and free dos....
If it could be a 17" with windows at that price would be great. I just sold my ps4 today to increase my budget a little bit. Damn you budget
-
Alienware raise the prices by roughly 150usd atleast laptops equipped with 970m 980m.

With a 17" 4k display? I haven't seen any around. If you find one, let me know. The FHD version would cost $833, and some would argue the 960M --> 970M upgrade for ~$166 more is more worth your money than the FHD --> UHD upgrade for $70 more. I could drop the GPU from 4 GB to 2 GB and save an extra $30 as well. The reason I mention the FHD display price is for a more apples-to-apples comparison of a similar 970M laptop, as I said I haven't seen any of those with a 4k display as low as $1000.
That being said, I am hoping for the 10 series. It will do much better than the 960M. But that depends on how long the wait will be...
(when I say "that depends on how long the wait will be", I'm referring to getting a 10 series card, not referring to whether or not it will do better than the 960M
)

I'd think Nvidia would want more of a gap so maybe 1050=965M or 960M. It's pretty obvious Nvidia wants to push 1060+ systems. Who knows, maybe the low end will just be Maxwell refreshes for now.Georgel, hmscott, ajc9988 and 1 other person like this.

Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
That sucks, to be frank. Why can't nVidia make life simple for themselves and us, and increase performance more or less linearly? -
How would the 1050 cannibalize the 1060, when they're literally sold to two different markets?
Furthermore, Nvidia cares way more about cornering the ~$1k market share, than they do the ultra niche $1.5k and up. They aren't going to artificially delay the card which suits the most important market.
Time to speculate on power will be when the 1050 is revealed on desktop. Nvidia will only be able to limit the mobile card to what the desktop card does anyway.
