Oh yes and Xotic just sent me an email they are sending me a fan to replace the slave fan that is squealing... Not a damn thing from them or Sager about what they're going to do about my 880s...... Haven't gamed on my laptop since October.

So basically, you have a $5K paperweight.

Screw Nvidia. There needs to be a class action lawsuit to get them off their asses.

Yep, especially after they admitted something was wrong in the Nvidia thread. Although I didn't get burnt by 880m I don't really feel too happy with buying any of their other products after seeing them take a dump on 880m users.
They need to fess up to their wrong doings.

Don't forget they're taking a dump on desktop 980/970 users too with borked drivers.

Yeah and while Sager is going to replace the slave fan by shipping a new one, still no eta on when they will be able to do anything with the new cards. To say I'm pissed is an understatement.

By new cards do you mean 980M or yet a third set of 880Ms? For your sake please tell me it's the 980M.

Also I'd say in your case 90% of the blame should be directed squarely at nVidia for knowingly releasing a broken POS and not giving a flying Peking duck about it afterwards.

Either 970M or 980M. I'm not taking another pair of cards that are broken. Forget that.

Just 90%? Nvidia deserves 110% of the blame for the broken POS that is the 880M. It starts at the top. Their defective product makes everybody down the line suffer.

I'm just really mad. Sager initially offered me to downgrade to 780M for 160 bucks and then Xotic told me that Sager said when the new cards drop they'll let me know but Sager isn't releasing any stock for RMA purposes right now... So I'm stuck. At least they are sending me a new slave GPU fan... But man...

Why don't you just drop those 880m on eBay and pick up a couple 970m or 980m cards on your own if they won't do anything? I'm willing to bet for the price you could almost cover SLI 970m which would vastly out perform your 880m setup.

Unless you have an extended warranty I understand. If it's just a year then I would self insure and do the upgrade myself.

O in that case then nah. I'd be pushing for a replacement of those cards. 780m replacements would be a very fair replacement IMO. They are both Kepler; Kepler is what you purchased with the laptop, and they perform the same or better than 880m. They are available brand new at certain resellers online. They could source them and replace the 880m for you.

Although anything 9xx Maxwell would be better and ideal, and it would be an upgrade. Do they have the same policy as Dell/Alienware? For equal or same replacement.

They want me to pay 160 bucks for the video card downgrade and that's just not acceptable. They sold me a machine that came with defective cards and I shouldn't have to pay for a downgrade. NVidia charges Sager more for 780M cards. Why? It should be obvious. They know the 880M cards are broken. They are the same cards on paper but with 8GB of RAM per card instead of 4GB but I'd bet money they used low voltage, high core clock desktop leftovers to make these cards (they do 993MHz @ 1v while the 780M will likely need 1.025-1.05v to achieve the same core) which means they are high leakage which increases heat massively.

I've already had one replacement after my slave decided to just disappear from the system one day, showing revision FF. There are nothing but problems with these cards. Even the ones that work properly will eventually get so hot that they will massively core throttle.

So tell me... Why should I be forced to endure a lemon of a machine?

780Ms (though the fact that they'd work would mean they'd be better) are theoretically WORSE. 4GB vRAM vs 8GB and 850 clocks vs 993. Also their memory usually can't OC as far. 970Ms or 980Ms should be his only option; they've given him replacement 880Ms before and that didn't fix a thing.

Also, they wanted to CHARGE HIM $160 USD for a downgrade replacement (though in effect it'd have been an upgrade, seeing as how 780Ms actually work).

I know that if I were in your shoes I'd be very upset as well, especially if you opted for a good warranty and spent thousands of dollars expecting a high performing machine.

Push for the 9xxM series and I wish you luck.

I'm getting to the point of just paying the 900 for two 970M cards... Refuse to pay 1440 for two 980M and a single 980M is slower than my 880M SLI from what I've seen but that just burns me... I don't know what to do at this point. Sager is not even offering an upgrade price which means I'll be throwing my damn warranty out of the window!

Posting this for others' benefits to illustrate just how broken Maxwell is right now:

tl;dr version: be prepared to play the ASIC and voltage lottery if you're going SLI with Maxwell. Since all available cards are based off of GM204, there's a very good chance mobile cards might be affected as well.

I think it's safe to duh. If they were to release a fix, it would result in massive throttling over long gaming sessions. Pidge himself had a 94C Alienware 17 throttling to 770MHz... But we never knew if that was stock or not.

The 880M is good as long as I limit frame rates to 60fps. Mechwarrior Online main menu will run up 180fps while waiting for a match to load and cause the heat to spike. Not good.

I thought I would try newer drivers than 327.23 and that was a huge mistake. I cleaned everything up as best I could and went back to 327.23 and it doesn't clock nearly as high as it did before. This 880M is rather finicky.

Get the 980M and be done with it. Mine don't pass 70C. And that's with whatever stock thermal paste they used. My fans don't even kick on.

If you are expecting a fix for the 880M, I'm sorry you got suckered like me but stock clocks even with liquid ultra got into the 90s.

GTX880m stopped throttling with DELL latest vBios but that's for DELL machines with 8 GB MXM GPUs .... Since you have the 4 GB one I don't know if it is soldered or MXM

If it is MXM you can go over at Techinferno and ask svl7 or maybe Prema to make you a modded non throttling vBios but make sure that you repaste the GPU with good thermal paste

This is not entirely true. I have a dell/alienware machine from Dec 2014, with what it seems to be the very last vbios for 880m. Vbios version which many claim to have solved the throttle issue.
I can only say that I have solved the throttle issue in a 90% thanks to Mr. Fox "desktop" 345.20 drivers. Throttle is away almost completely although clocks never step up from the base clock of 954Mhz..

The only downside it's newr gamer optimizations like gta V.. textures look weird and performance its rather low. Besides gta V everything else its working "constantly" fast :)

ps: I've never tried any other custom vbios though.

Last time I was GTA fan was back in the days of GTA 2 :D ... But for me other as heavy titles (Witcher 3, DA Inquisition, Dying Light, LoTR Shadow of Mordor) are all working flawlessly on high-Ultra settings & native resolution.

That being said I am using svl7 custom vBios though with the card scoring at stock clocks around 8,900 in 3DMark11 graphics section and OCed scores as in the sig.

I don't need to run it neither on the OC nor even at 993 core clock as no game is unplayable to make me do that (I can run useless settings like shadows on low & I hate all blur effects so that helps); thus I run my card on 954 with -25.0 MV undervolt and that thing runs as cool as hell with my Gelid Extreme

Everyone here had been pretty forthcoming and helpful to you as they are with everyone.
If you want to spit the dummy because it doesn't fit your flight plan then good luck in life :)

If you need a vbios this minute go buy a subscription techinferno forums when you'll be able to download a copy of a modded vbios from either prema or svl7 straight from the source. Short of that what more does your Heiness want ?

Word of advice, fix your attitude and quit your whining when people are trying to help you. Your not exactly going the right way about things are you!

It will not be tolerated. Be respectful like everyone else or don't post here but don't think that just because the filter caught your foul mouth that your context didn't come across.

Can someone examine that vbios that was posted to see if it is @Prema or @svl7 because it is not appropriate to post their hard work without going through the proper channels and I will delete the posts, I just have other things I'm dealing with right now so hopefully someone can compare and see and PM me.

880m be damned. It is a bad joke by Nvidia and should purged from the face of this earth.

    In any case...

You know better HT... either put it in a spoiler and add something to the thread or delete it before I have to. At the very least shrink it...
