I really think that they did a good job. I am not a fan of razer at all but I really hope that some other laptop companies take notes. I actually like the touchpad where they put it and the fact that its a capacitive screen (like an iphone). Overpriced? Yeah. Cool? I think so.

GPU upgradable on that thing ?

i loled. sad sad sad, im so so impressed at razer right now. makes me ashamed using 3 of their products atm.

Feels like blackmail, "buy these or PC gaming will die!!"
Seriously, $3000 for a $1000 laptop, with the only major difference being a $2000 flashy keyboard and new placement of trackpad. I'm still shocked by the price; trying to make Apple look cheap.
Dumb crap like this is what makes people say PC gaming is dead. -
In other news, I hear the computer accessory maker CoolerMaster is coming out with a laptop geared towards overweight PC gamers. This new laptop comes with the highly acclaimed CoolerMaster cooling fan system. These fans allow the laptop to hover and fly to the gamer by voice commands.
Just what us PC gamers wanted !
Ya I'm just kidding. -
-
you also dont get what words mean apparently. impressed and depressed are 2 completely unrelated words except they both end with pressed. -

I really like the look of the laptop but it does not have enough power to be a real gaming laptop. I mean the m14x will probably perform better. The form factor is really nice and I'm sure the battery life will be decent. But I wonder if Razer has seen the Envy 17, more power and half the price with almost the same form factor. Also a 320gb HDD on a $2800 computer?!!! what were they thinking?
I guess this thing is all about the keyboard though and that is not worth a $1000 price hike imo. They should partner with Asus and Alienware and offer that touchpad and keys for a $250 premium on their gaming laptops. No gamers use touchpads but I bet if offered for a decent price many people would like to have it included on their gaming laptop and run it as a secondary screen. -
This is an utter and complete farce. -
It's April 1 in August!
-
-
Are they seriously going to charge 2,700$ for it?
What a rip off.
I still stick to the M11X line as being the best portable gaming system (even though the R3 has a 540m vs the Razer's 555m).

Razer Blade: Eyes-on With the 'Future' of PC Gaming | PCWorld
Edit:
The specs offered in the M14X is the same (actually a little better) than the specs in what Razer is offering. Plus, with some haggling, you can get 15-20% off the list price (or more), which starts at 1,199$ for the i7 version (+50-75$ for 900p res). -
Me: "I'm not sure how you can say the MBP can't compete with the Razor Blade. The HD 6750m has about the same performance as a GT555m and the MBP comes with a quadcore i7, while yours features just a dual core.
Coming from someone who has been gaming on laptops/notebooks for the last 4 years I can honestly say that your system is way underpowered for the next gen games coming out. The blade with maybe be able to play them at medium with AA turned down. Not to mention you're running at 1080p with a mid level mobile gpu. I love your peripherals, but this thing is just not competitive in price or function."
"Min-Liang Tan @****- we worked really closely with Intel and nVidia to develop the Razer Blade - we'll be releasing benchmarks when we get the chance to and you can make your assessment from there. How's that?"
-Developer's response to me
Apparently according to him it sounds like they can make hardware run better than it's supposed to just by working with the companies...gl with that. -
-
-
I wonder if they will make Razer exclusive versions of games. Maybe Razer will just act as another console where a game will only work if it is a stripped down Razer versions that is optimized for it's hardware.
I sure hope not. -
Haha, these comments are pure gold. They tell it like it is! Razer: PC gaming is not dead - it's portable.
-
-
they doomed themselves to failure when they decided on their slogans for the blade
-
Someone very observant noticed that it's a gaming laptop with no optical drive. Hehe.
-
If Razer's idea of proving to me PC Gaming is alive and they have revolutionary hardware is a... Coffee Table decoration that looks like a MAC with a GT 555M? PC GAMING IS DOOMED!
I also noticed there was no mention about the cooling system on their demonstration. I want to see under the hood and know that it's not going to fry my balls. -
I also wish laptop manufactures would spend a good few million on research into cooling. That way they might be able to run their componants properly without them either throttling or hitting 90*C. -

Wow they put the equivalent of a desktop GT430 in there and call it a gaming machine?
EDIT: BTW I never see 90C =) The most I ever see is 82C at stupid BBQ stress test settings. -
Disappointing and gimmicky.

I'd like to point out for that money you could buy:
A decently powerful desktop.
A decently powerful notebook.
AMD fusion based netbook.
And have the right machine for any circumstance! -
-
Razer's Switchblade will ultimately fail.
2,000+ USD? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWAAAAAAAAYYY!!!
I can get my dream computer for that price! Razer, go out of your office and have a huge breath.
Razer is now my most hated company next to Ubisoft
Razer just proved that PC gaming is dying due to console PCs. -
Someone needs to start a company that produces decent console priced PCs that can game at console levels (30+ fps on low-mid settings). If I had the money, I'd do it myself. >.>

There are loads of laptops around like that, just look at the first ones with dedicated graphics.
-
im also pretty sure there are tons of websites that sell decent ~$500 "gamingish" desktop pcs.

Merry christmas.
Also, I can't believe the specs on that thing... I'm sorry but that's more overpriced than alienware! And that's saying something. Who cares about a gimmicky touch screen that will probably get hot and unresponsive during intense gaming use.. If you have 3k to spend on an overpriced laptop, definitely go with an alienware M18x... You can get a MUCH better graphics card, plus freaking 3D capability and just all around better everything. Portable my A$$ lmao razer just go kill yourself now. -
$2800 for a laptop with a GeForce GT 555m and a dual core i7? Come on ... That's floating around the same specs as my laptop for over double the price. I mean sure, a thin laptop with a controversially innovative touchpad is worth some premium, but for over double the price? If this were a true gaming laptop, I'd expect at least a 570m or 6870m in a 17" form factor. This could at most be a good multimedia laptop with gaming capabilities.
-
They're going to pull a "switcheroo" on us and swap in the 6990 and quad i7 right before shipping them to our doorsteps! And it comes with a free tablet?
^^^^^^all lies and completely made up -
After taking a closer look at the ditchblade, I see missed potential. I just don't understand why companies keep on getting it wrong, it is like they completely ignore all common sense, logic and the views of their potential market. The people want a standardized upgradeable gaming laptop so they release an overpriced, under powered pile of unworthy plastic and have the nerve to call it a gaming laptop?
I honestly think that the only way to get a real gaming laptop is for everyone on the NBR forums to join together as one big company to design and release one.
The switchblade is like a beautiful chocolate teapot, nice to look at but it just won't do. -
Do they even do surveys for these kind of things?
-
It looks too much like a Macbook..
-
That's the only good thing about it...
the problem is the huge premium so that you can have some LED thing where my right hand goes. Take out that second screen, add a 2630QM, take the price down 400 dollars, and you have yourself a really great laptop. -
-
With those specs even with the new doohickeys on it, less than $1500 with a quad. For that kind of coin, users usually want to get a solid two years or more out of their laptop. Those specs won't cut it.
I think when they started with the design they said "let's make the thinnest and lightest 17" laptop we can make, and throw in our LCD button technology" And then just threw in whatever fit. It's essentially an M11x R3 but with a 555m instead of the 540m, seriously. -
I lol'd at the price, you could buy 4 consoles with that, or an extremely powerful alienware/sager with that. A great failure on razer.
EDIT: You could buy a decent car in my country for that thing. -
How does this un-kill PC gaming?
Also this is going to BOMB hard. -
Frankly, although I agree that it's most definitely not the solution to "resurrect" PC gaming, I'm a bit surprised that no one has anything positive to say about the Blade. I actually rather like the muted design cues: it looks better than any Alienware and most Asus gaming laptops, and there are some good ideas in there.
Yes, it's overpriced. Yes, it isn't really comparable performance-wise to "true" gaming notebooks from Sager/Clevo/Alienware/etc, but I think its thin, attractive looks aren't bad. If they can get the price down a bit more, it'll be comparable to the MBP17, which I think is much more of a competitor than say, a Sager.
Bottom line: will I buy it? No. Will most "true" gamers buy it? No. But is it a product without merit? I don't think so, and as the halo product that it is, I think the Blade is an interesting entry. -
I like the physical form of the Blade. I'm sad for its lack of ports other than USB/Video. I like my options. For less $, I can get a higher spec'd Alienware that can be connected to virtually anything.
-
Consumers accept that gaming laptops are big, heavy and not that portable so the manufacturers have no reason to change the game. Hopefully this opens the door to a new line of gaming laptops that might not play everything on ultra, but have decent power in a package thats actually portable. You cannot honestly expect something thats .88" thick to have the same power as something thats more than 3x thicker.
The price seems a little high, but its not uncommon for manufacturers to release things at an ultra high cost to try and recoup some of the development costs from the rich first adopters, then drop the price later allowing it to become more mainstream. People spend $3k on 17" mbps, why not on this? It looks much cooler if you ask me and I prefer windows anyways.
I don't think its a complete miss, maybe not a complete win either, but I definitely like the direction they are pointing in. -
