Is the first person aspect really important? If not, check out The Witcher.

Im big into mmorpgs (massive multiplayer online role playing games) so I have to recommend some mmorpgs of course. A few upcoming games that havent released but to look out for; Guild wars 2, Final fantasy 14(coming out soon),star wars:the old republic, TERA online and Rift: Planes of Telara. FFXIV(finfal fantasy 14) will release September 30, 2010, the other 3 will release Q1(quarter 1/4(janurary through march)) of 2011 heh ;). They will all be great games and worth a look, although rift might be later in the year or even 2012.

As for some that are already released, well its been tough for mmorpgs as of late. Many companys go belly up and others dwindle down to a few users. There are currently 3 great free to play mmorpgs that require no monthly subscription. Lord of the rings online, everquest 2 and dungeons and dragons online. All are fantastic games and encourage you to give them a shot, and there free to play so no harm done if there not your cup of tea.

The current pay to play games worth giving a go I would of course have to recomend my favorite game out right now Aion pronounced ION. It has a monthly fee of 14.99 and the game box cost 29.99. Its totally worth it though, there are great gameplay mechanics with both pvp(player vs player) and pve(player vs enemy(non player character)). Also world of warcraft is having a new expansion cataclysm thats something to look out for as well.

There are many more I could reccomend but I think Iv went way past my word limit. I have to say in ending though that All points bulletin is also a great mmorpg worth checking out, its similar to games like grand theft auto and red dead redemtion. As for a few first person shooters my favorite is left for dead, thats a must to check out as my favorite genere is horror in anything. Also dead space and metro 2033 for first person shooters. EA has some nice sport games as well as Fiffa 2010 and madden 2010, also pro evolution soccer is a good one. RTS world in conflict and starcraft 2.

Can someone recommend me about $100 worth of games? I currently have no PC games. I have played a bunch of games on consoles, but I don't own them either (I play at my friends house), so I'm willing to buy almost anything. I mainly like FPS and RPG games.

    I was thinking:
    Orange Box
    BFBC2
    Fallout 3 GOTY edition

If that sounds good, maybe you could recommend games I should get after that?

Oh, or should I wait for any of those three to go on sale? I'm probably buying on Steam.

Edit: If anyone could answer this while they're at it, that would be great. If I buy I game on Steam, can I play it on any new computer I get? Online and everything?

It hasn't arrived yet but I purchased the Dell Studio 17. I've had dells forever and always had a good experience (sorry to those of you who haven't). I will not be doing alot of gaming but will use it running multiple apps at the same time/presentation etc. Having said that the specs are:

    Screen 17.3
    i7 740
1080 HD screen with ATI Radeon 1GB 4650
    4 Gb ram
    500 G HD (7200)
Backlit Keyboard/Soundblaster/9cell battery/some other bells and whistles
3 year advanced warranty because something always goes wrong over time.
Total cost was $1480 give or take.

I opted to bump the processor rather than the ram knowing that I can later upgrade when the need arises.

Also, I've lurked around this forum for years and found it very useful in my research so thanks again to all of you for your help.

Seems you're a shooter fan. Have you checked out the original F.E.A.R? It's psychological horror (as opposed to the outright gore horror of Doom 3) mixed in with non-stop first-person shooting. Very tense, atmospheric, and dark. During gunfights, you actually feel like you're in the game, with the loud sounds of ammo, bullets destroying and ricocheting off objects, and some of the smartest A.I. enemies you'll find in a FPS.

Both Gamespot and IGN rated it above a 9.

Have you looked into Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines? It's first-person (uses the Source engine of choosing between 1st and 3rd person). It takes place in L.A. as opposed to a natural wilderness, but outside of that, it has everything else you're looking for.

The Orange Box is an essential addition to any PC game library, IMO. Fallout 3 is great if you can handle the constant dark mood and depressing atmosphere. To add a solid RPG to your line up, have you looked into Dragon Age: Origins?

Civilization 4. Steam will likely have another sale on it since Civilization 5 is coming out soon. Or you can hold off until Civ 5 comes out.

I want to play a horror game in night time and turn off all the lights in my room and scare myself until i cry.

Is there any scary horror games out there? I did play F.E.A.R a while ago and it really scared me to the degree that i had to sleep with lights on for a week. The thing i didnt like about it was the same thing all the time. Same textures, same enemys etc. No variation :(

Anyway are there other scary games out there, plz recommend me one or more

Oh belive me, it's like 100x times better than Doom 3. D3 don't have fear factor like Dead Space, I mean D3 dont have fear factor, period. It's like the best horror game I've played in last 5-10yrs.

Atmosphere and sound are pure 10s, gameplay is so good and catchy and you can get pretty cheap from steam i think, around 10 euros/15usd

EDIT: And the best things of all is that it works well even on low end laptops and pcs, for example 8600gt with everything on High without AA. I've been playing it on my older laptop with 2gigs of ram and 8600gt 512mb ddr2 memory when it came out.

I've played quite many horror games, and nothing beats silent hill series in creepiness.

I recommend silent hill 2, silent hill 3 are the best. Silent hill 4 and silent hill home coming also worth a try.

But for action oriented horror games I agree Dead Space is definitely worth a shot. Condemned Criminal Origins is also pretty good.

Ok I have to admit, SH series are creepy indeed, but in Dead Space you play in whole new perspective and the way they done the HUD is just awesome. You definetly should try it, you wont regret it ;)

AVP2 I did not like very much and I am a huge predator fan, its my favorite moive and I really liked the first AVP game.

The 2nd one just did not do the series justice in my opinion and I did not find it scary, horror, terror or any of the above at any level even close to games like Doom and Dead Space, even Bioshock and others were better and I didnt like Bioshock very much.

There is another game I would also like to recommend, although the graphic isn't the best to look at compare to recent PC games, but the scariness and creepiness are off the chart.

I think lots of folks like the fear engine. Fear 1 > Fear 2 but 2 is still good. You get a good shooter with good story line. Metro 2033 seems to be creepy as well. BW, Stevenx

What are some good and intuitive casual games?

Looking for something an older person or someone who's never played games can pick up right away and enjoy. Fun but challenging. Anything recent fit the billing?

If you've already played Mass Effect, I'd recommend ME2. If not, go with Dragon Age.
    DA: RPG
    ME2: RPGish action/adventure game.

I've played some of Mass Effect (thanks to my friend), but not the whole game. Are you saying I should play Mass Effect before I play Mass Effect 2? I might be able to finish Mass Effect and then buy Mass Effect 2 for myself. In that case, I might get Dragon Age first.

Note: I like all style of RPGs pretty much equally, including ones like Mass Effect.

Thanks. I'll get Mass Effect 2 later then, after my friend hopefully lets me finish Mass Effect.

Also, should I get BF:BC2 now, or wait for a new FPS to come out? Like COD: Black Ops or something.

man this is very helpful for people like me who never play games on Pc/laptops and wants to try it, so here is my question for someone to take their time to help me with if they please could.

so, I am waiting for my first ever laptop (asus g73) any time soon and I want to ofcourse play games on it and after seing this list of games I have to say that I found exactly what I was looking for which is the "company of heroes" but can't find anywhere that sells them for windows 7 (only for windows xp and vista); does someone know where to buy this from in the UK??

ps: I feel stupid with this question but I lovew ww2 games and I will be getting the Crysis games as soon as I can.

    thanks in advance

I purchased Company Of Heroes on Steam, I got the Company Of Heroes Complete pack but you can get them individually for around £7 each. You can also buy the complete series on Amazon.co.uk for only £9.99 and £1.85 shipping. Most of the games I purchased from Amazon.co.uk had free shipping.

The game works perfectly on Windows 7 X64 even if it was designed for XP and I haven't had any problems. Many games that state compatibility only for Vista / XP still work just fine on Windows 7. Some of the patches for older games also introduce better compatibility. You should also take a look at World In Conflict as well.

If you don't mind digital downloads, Impulse has a sale on the THQ Ultimate Bundle which includes the CoH games. I'm not sure though if they sell to the UK or if there will be any currency problems. Impulse Driven : Digital Download Store

It's a bit off-topic, but can someone recommend a gamepad for gaming? I'll be using it for Mortal Kombat Trilogy in console emulator (I own the game and console, so it's not illegal) but would like it to be also adequate for modern games.

I'm gonna be pretty lazy here and suggest the 360 controller. I don't know if it's the best for the MKT but it does feature out of the box compatibility with most new games.

    I'll second that.

I use my 360 controller for a lot of games I don't like using the Mouse/Keyboard with. And most games support the 360 controller, so you don't have to mod anything.

I saw oblivion on the list (I've heard amazing things about that game). Anyone know if the steam version supports community mods?

Also, are there any good single player rpgs or sandbox games with a lot of exploring? I've already played ME 1/2, Just Cause 2, GTA 4, Fallout 3 and I'm planning on getting oblivion.

Dead Space has to be on my top lists of games. It's freaky and absorbing and totally intense. I have to take a break from it every now and then because I'm afraid I'll end up dreaming about it, lol.
