I wouldn't call the IL-2 a fighter jet. If you're looking for something close to realistic, I recommend Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2.
-
FIghter jet game with good graphics would be lock on: modern air combat. it is semi realistic but if you want full realism and don't really care about graphics look at falcon 4.0 allied force.
-
Another realistic game to look out for is DCS A-10C. However, that type of sim will either frustrate the hell out of you, or will be the most rewarding thing ever after learning the basics
-
If you REALLY don't care about a game being "modern" I would recommend Novalogic's series F-16 MRF and MiG-29. I grew up playing those games
-
HaWX is about the closest to a fighter jet game...Like others said it is a arcade type feeling...I downloaded someones profile so I got to fly all planes, for the most part it is arcadish but the graphics are insane.
-
I found Battlefield 2 to have a great gameplay, but jets are only a part of the game, you're probably looking for flying only game.
-
I think the OP should have a look at Thirdwire games. They offer WWI/WWII and Modern fighter Jet games. At their most extreme they fall in the middle of Arcade and Hardcore. They look good graphically and are a blast. The Devs constantly update their games with patches and features. These flight sim lite games also have decent support from the community.
Now for the best part. They are downloadable, cost $19.99 and have ZERO DRM.

I also second Lock-On for a semi-realistic game, but can be played without having to get too detailed.
HAWX is also great. I gotta go back and finish the campaign though. It is a fun flight game. Better than Ace Combat IMHO.
I lost probably a good 400-500 hours with Falcon 4, but probably took a good 100 just to master then controls. After that the game was phenomenal, and still is despite ancient graphics.
I'm looking forward to DCS A-10c. I have Black Shark but just couldn't get into too much. I like flight sims of aircraft I can relate too. I would much rather see an Apache sim come out of them, but have waited a long time for a good A-10 sim. -
I used to play Battlefield 1942 and BFV a LOT several years ago. I really liked the style of game play, especially the larger maps in multi-player capture the flag games. I haven't done any gaming in years. In fact, my main comp has been a netbook the last 2 years. I am planning to upgrade soon, probably to an Envy 14 with i5. Can someone recommend a newer game similar to BF, with servers that have a good amount of activity? Is the style of play in Bad Company still similar to the earlier games?

Guys, I'm going to have LAN parties in a few weeks..
Please suggest recent games (2007 - now) for LAN.
Categorize them into -
FPS-first person shooter
TPS-third person shooter
RTS-real time strategy
Appreciate your help in advance. -
RTS - Dawn Of War II.
The Co-op campaign is so much fun. -
RTS - Company of Heroes
Maybe C&C: Tiberium Wars & Kane's Wrath
TPS maybe Nation RedSimilar to Black Op's Dead Ops arcade mode or Alien Swarm-ish really...
-
RTS - Supreme Commander
FPS - Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
TPS maybe GTA 4 or Episodes from Liberty City can be pretty hectic with enough of you -
Bad Company 2 and Black Ops seems tempting to get. I just haven't decided yet. Are the BC2 server quantities decent? It's the worst thing to buy an FPS and the servers are dead.
-
Crysis Wars (it's free to play on LAN).
CoD 4
Bad Company 2 (only $20 on steam right now)
Shattered Horizon
TPS - uhhh lol dunno.
RTS -
Starcraft 2!! -
I haven't played some FPSs since a while, and I was wondering if there are any modern shooter games since 2007 and up, with a decent campaign, I'm not really into online playing when it comes to this type of games. Sure, I heard about the recent call of duty games, the last I played was world at war. But starting from modern warfare all have very short campaigns as far as I know. I enjoyed crysis, far cry 2 (amazing graphics but got repetitive and haven't finished it) and tried to play bioschock 2 but I got bored after a while. I played call of duty 1 and 2 and they were also very fun.
-
Soldier of Fortune II I thought was good, really old game, but like you have noticed, good campaign FPS games are far in between.
For crazy fun games
Wolfenstein (2009)
Singularity
Both games by Ravensoft and both games have some similarities, but the best thing, both are a lot of fun. Not very serious, but fun gameplay, guns look good, they sound and play well and the stories are just enough crazy to make it fun.
For tactical fun
ARMA I and II
For RPG like FPS Games
Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3
STALKER series, first and 3rd, skip the 2nd.
Borderlands
3rd Person Shooter
Mass Effect I and II
- The action isn't particularly great, it gets repetitive and boring. But the story and RPG elements is what carries the game. It's not a true RPG like Dragon Age Online, but it's enough to carry a 3rd Person Shooter. -
I didn't like fallout at all. I played both of the ME games and the 1st one was great, the 2nd one was average. Oh yeah, I looked into ARMA some time ago, but I heard its a PC killer, it takes a lot of horse power to run it properly, so I'll skip it. Stalker CoP looks interesting, does it have a good story? How well would it run on my machine?
LE: Oh yeah, wolfenstein looks good indeed, I might give that a try. -
Try Frontlines Fuel of War. Not real long, but it's cheap now.
Half-Life 2 with Episodes 1 and 2 if you haven't already, and get the cinematic mod.
Original FEAR is good and FEAR 2 isn't half bad either.
And of course Crysis and Crysis: Warhead. I enjoyed both very much. -
I'll throw Bioshock 1 and 2 into the mix. Along with Metro 2033.
-
Halflife 2 gets a vote from me. takes a total of about 25 hours to beat with episodes 1 and 2.
-
Timeshift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Long campaign very innovative. -

Original Far Cry.

i have had a lot of fun with metro 2033.

I've gotta say borderlands. With the GOTY edition, you've got a solid core + a bunch of awesome expansion (multiple playthroughs)...this game will give you a huge amount of playtime. Co-op is awesome, but single player is nearly as fun.
-
+1 for Crysis, but Warhead is sooo short... It's only 10 h of gameplay or so.
-
Does anyone know if there are any other (good) superhero games on PC, other than Batman. I loved that, I know #2 is coming out next year but other than those, any others that are already out or coming out soon?
-
I recently heard about City of Heroes, and there was one other that I can't think of off hand. I was in facebook and there was an advertisement for it, it said it's so intense, it could be banned in some states (I don't know how true that is though).
-
Wovlerine (the game base on the movie) yea it might be a movie tie in but this game is awesome and it runs smooth on pc. Hell it is even better than the movie itself and the plot is told in a better way.
Also, may not be superhero in a way, but Prototype is really fun! -
what about PRINCE OF PERSIA...!!!!
-
Not interested in MMOs, but i played prototype and it was fun! Will check out wolverine but i tend to avoid games based on movies.
-
I really enjoyed Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
-
How about Spiderman Shattered Dimensions?
-
Story starts off with a random encounter with CS 1.6 with 3 friends against 16 knifing bots in a small house and only $800 to last the whole time they survive. The passionate crew grew to the word of L4D in high difficulty alongside Warcraft III's DoTa. IL2 Sturmovik, Borderlands and CoD: Black Ops were considered but didn't make the cut. Lost Planet 2 became a staple within the crew with exteme difficulty co-op and amazing customisation.
Recently L4D2 was given by the gods and the hands of the players could not stop shaking and clicking the left mouse button...but there will be a time that we need to move on to something new. I, on the behalf of the crew, like some suggestions of amazingly difficult but filled with fun and frustration LAN/SystemLink/Co-op or LAN enabled games for us to see the future.
Also, another question. Does Halo 1/2 support co-op? -
Thread moved, comment no longer relevant.
-
I'm coming out with a game about myself
-
Freedom Force?
That should run pretty well on modern hardware too.
-
Prototype is about as destructive hero as you get IMO.
-
I enjoy Spiderman Web Of Shadows.
Edit: I had never heard of Freedom force but it got good reviews and Steam has a downloadable Demo. I will try it out. -

reason why i made a thread because it attracts people in the forums rather than it being in a sticky....but oh well. see no one recommends.
-
Can anyone recommend me a dungeon crawl (roguelike) game?
-
Yeah, Freedom Force is an old game, but it's very funny! I'm also waiting for Batman Arkham City
-
Torchlight?

Spiderman Shattered Dimensions looks fun.
But its still tba. -
Freedom Force really isn't like Batman: Arkham Asylum which I consider an action-adventure...it's more like an action-RPG a la Diablo (slower-paced)...and it's not dark and gritty...but very, very funny...
Having said all that, I love Freedom Force and its sequel...
There's also Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men Legends 2 along with Marvel - Ultimate Alliance...all decent super-hero games...
