So I was looking for a MMORPG, but I have basically only found one single game without these flaws. I don't mind if it is a monthly fee or item-mall, but it must NOT have any of these, maybe a minor exception to a certain degree:
- Cheap graphics (eg. huge open flat grounds or areas and or textures with little details).
- Easy combat (it cannot be repetitive ).
- No restricted movement (eg. point and click and or laggy keyboard movement response.)
- No modern-future era, as they're mostly all just shooters. (-.-)
- No asian grinding system where you have to spend hours later on to level up (-.-)
- No asian bot-games that simply play themselves. (-.-)
- No easy to play later on. (hitting the same ability over and over again).
- Item/ gear/ class/ race/ variation, really deep.
- Capable or PvP oriented (competition, I want to bash other ppl's proud work - not dumb pixels).
- Not hard to acquire or 'high' monthly fee ( compared to other games).
- Popular/ expanding universe. (empty or abandoned games... lmao no)
- Responsive interface. (I learn very fast, but I'm no macro programmer)
- No ruining bugs/ exploits or bots. (like bot that farm gold/ resources etc.)
- no EMO games (I am successful).
Does anything like this exist? The only game I've found so far is World of Warcraft - but it has the reputation of '40y old virgin' which is bad for your personal Public Relations... blablabla.
(Gaming is socially accepted here and can be good for you, but what kind of games...)
I've heard about upcoming 'Rift' and or 'Guild Wars 2' - but I've tried Guild Wars and it wasn't exactly any good, just a bit above 'average' (compared to asian ones) which in reality is s***.
So yeah, Guild Wars 2 and Rift... how are those going to be?
Or any else game...?
Open for business....![]()

There's a Rift beta I got invited into that starts today, maybe I'll be able to tell.
If you want my honest opinion though...every single MMO on the market utterly fails at your requirements. Completely. WoW is okay, and thankfully they made Cataclysm a little harder, but it is rank with many of it's own issues. I used to champion EQII but I won't go into what it failed at right now. Quite honestly all I can really say is that if you want a good MMO, go back in time about 10 years and play EARLY EverQuest, from back when it was a delight. The playerbase alone made the game so superb that you wouldn't believe.
Other than WoW, the only really decent MMO I've seen on the market is EVE, but that takes a special player to enjoy it. You fly spaceships. It can be fun, but I hope you have lots of friends lol. WoW doesn't really have a 40 yr old virgin complex anymore AFAIK. When I picked up my copy of Cataclysm at the launch at Gamestop, there were mostly married couples there to pick up the game! There are at least 4 people at work that play WoW, me (engaged, 24), my buddy who is divorced and putting himself back through school, etc. Most of my guild is young married couples, or engaged couples. There's a few much older married couples too. I can't actually think of any single people in my guild at all.
I've played through a lot of MMOs in my time, and I sorta play WoW again for now, but the past few weeks I've enjoyed myself much more playing Dragon Age, Mass Effect, replaying through KOTOR for the heck of it,...etc.
I can't vouch for it, but I know a few people that would swear by Aion. I played it for a little while but as soon as I got the wings the game just plummeted as far as quest quality went. That and the later game is almost entirely PvP, which isn't really my thing, it could be yours *shrug*.
My beef of the week with MMOs is the cost of entry, however. Most cost $15/month, but when you start out some of them can get absurd quickly. EQ/EQII the newest expansion pack $30-40 will always get you the entire game with all of the expansions. WoW will cost you $20 for the bast game, $30 each for Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, and $40 for Cataclysm. That's $120. Sure, you can skip the expansions 'til level 60 but without Burning Crusade and Cataclysm you miss out on four of the best races. Wrath of the Lich King is useless til lvl 70 so $90 entry fee right there if you want to play all the races from the get-go. Then you add on the fact that a lot of these games these days have extra features you have to pay for. You wanna use the web tools for the game? Add $3 a month. You want that really cool mount thing? $20. EQ/EQII got bad with that kind of stuff. Nothing necessary, but still highly annoying.
Anyways! That sounded too much like a rant. I'm gonna try out Rift when that beta opens up today, I'll let you know how it goes. Or I might not. If it goes well enough, you might not hear from me all week. We'll see! -
Thanks for nice response and thoughts
Kay, I'm going to hear/ research a bit on 'Rift' and 'Guild Wars 2' but unless they offer something good, I'm going to subscribe for WoW. More opinions on those two games are welcome please

DDO may fit what you're looking for; however, it has instanced gameplay by and large (i.e. you group up with 5 others or 11 others for raid-type quests and you enter into a group-specific instance of most quest areas).
Home | Dungeons & Dragons Online
Also, its PvP isn't its strength, but you can participate in designated zones.
Its free to play (you have to buy access to various quests if you want to access them, but there are many free areas), so can be tried out for minimal outlay.
It has extremely good combat for an MMORPG imo, and it has good character creation / customisation options. I think its relatively well populated these days following its transition/relaunch to a f2p model. -
is there a similar game like the fps shooter Borderlands? i really like the sci fi fps with lengthy game play and replayability.
-
The last two Fallout games definitely come to mind, assuming you haven't played those before. The Bioshock games?
-
OTOH, if you get well and truly hooked by an mmorpg, there is also a decent chance you won't be buying any more games for awhile, so you could end up saving money.
-
Not spending $15 a month on it. base 120, + 15 * 12 = 300. more than I spend on games in a year. and I get variety.
-
MMORPG kills gaming. But its a good way for developers to get loads of cash out of their product and if they are free or inexpensive they are crap. Not even mentioning what impact they have on your 'normal' life. I'm not touching any MMO with a six foot pole...

My laptop currently on RMA so I stuck on backup laptop that uses Intel X3100 with mere 1GB of system RAM
I surprised it could run some titles very well like UT2004, CnC Renegade and GTA Vice City. Is there any other games suitable for integrated graphics?

Tales of Maj'Eyal and T-Engine4 | Topdown tactical RPG roguelike game and game engine
(actually a very nice Rogue-a-like, although the tile set isn't complete, and at the moment it feels a bit "loose" - not sure I like the pre-ID of gear that much though). -
YMMV. It depends on how hooked you get, how long, and how many games you otherwise buy in a month.
Lets say I normally buy 1 new game a month. That's could be around $500-700 for the year. If I get hooked on WoW for a year, that is the significantly cheaper option. Sure, it's less variety, but if I'm addicted, what do I care? ;-) -
Has anoyone played Breach?
Would you recommend it? -
Anyone have any recommendations for games that will not require a mouse / game pad? I'll be going on a two 8 hour bus ride and would like to play some good games on my laptop (specs in sig). I'm not particularly into puzzle games, but it seems I don't really have much of a choice.
I've picked up Bejeweled 3, PQ2, and PvZ, and Zuma's revenge. I don't usually follow "casual" games, so I have no idea what else is good. Recommendations will be great!
Edit:
Perhaps civilization 5 will be a good choice (40% on steam)? Is it comfortable enough to play with a touchpad? -
Plants Vs Zombies.
-
Just Cause 2($30 Steam) is great with a touchpad. I was on a trip, and being lazy, I didn't get my mouse out, I just used a touchpad.
-
Machinarium.
Braid.
The Misadventures of P.B Winterbottom. -
I play Civ4 with a touchpad all the time. I've also started liking Greed Corp, it's a nice turn-based game. Anything turn-based is pretty nice to use with a touchpad.
-
Mount and Blade: Warband or Mount and Blade. Hours of entertainment and worth the low price!
-
Civ V ...fabulous game and very addicting. You can save and reload your game anytime you wish.
WoW is fine on a touchpad too if you're into casual MMO's. I've been playing it strictly on a touchpad since its been released since I like it better than a mouse. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Peggle is a very fun and pretty addicting "casual" game, I love it.

I haven't really been playing any games intensively lately due to school work. But now that I'm accepted to my dream graduate school (University of Michigan Ann Arbor), I have a lot more free time after I finish my homework. Any recommendations on games? When is Diablo 3 coming out?!?!
I'm looking for an open ended single player game, I can't really tolerate multiplayer competition anymore
-
The Fallout series (mainly 3 and New Vegas) are great single player games. If you're in the fps thing, there is always Crysis Warhead, Metro 2033, COD, BF2BC, among others.
-
Good luck seeing Diablo 3 within the 2Q of this year, earliest anticipated year is end 2011 since Blizzard will never release the game until it's properly finished.
The new Dragon Age 2 demo has been released and there's lots of discussion going over it. It's primarily single player and reasonably open-ended. If you can wait until November, the Elder Scrolls V will be ready assuming no delays from Bethesda. -

Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Oblivion and Dragon Age. -

Played Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Not really a fan of 3rd person shooters. Played Crysis, CoD 4-7, and Battlefield games. Will definitely check out Metro 2033, I love horror games.
Will check out DA2's demo.
Have played all of those. Did not like Mass Effect one bit

You preferred to play the Fallouts in 3rd person?
Mako driving was a pain. Hard to play ME as a completionist and be compelled to use that thing. -

I just didn't prefer Fallout in general. I hate the idea of post-apocalyptic/ post-nuclear war type of political propaganda more than I hate anything. -
I liked the setting and world building that went into Mass Effect, but actually playing it... I didn't really care for it much either.
*hides* -
Dead Space 2 is exactly what your looking for.
-
Take a look into Tera. I'm in the same boat and I have a lot of the same wants in an MMO as you do. I've quit WoW about 10 times now because I can't find anything better and give up, go back to WoW, and then realize I hate it all over again. Tera looks really nice, and they say that the U.S. version won't be all asian grindy (we can only hope), and the combat is supposed to play like a hack and slash (no tab targeting).
I'm currently playing EVE. It's a little slow paced most of the time, but it's fun blowing up other peoples shiny toys and looting them.
Other than Tera I'm waiting for D3 (not exactly an MMORPG, but it can fill the same role), and GW2 might be decent, but I believe it's going to be extremely instanced again (which I can't stand). -
Arenanet stated that GW2 would feature a persistent world with some instanced areas. How much will be persistent and instanced remains to be seen. From the PAX and gamescom previews i've seen so far, it looks like a good chuck of the game will be persistent but at this point it's still speculation.

Also try out Amnesia: the Dark Descent if you love horror games. best played at night, lights off, and headphones. I can only play half hour at a time... -
Is there any robot/mecha games?
-
Not exclusive games, but there are several options.
One is to wait for the new Double Fine game called Trenched. It is exclusive on the consoles, FAIK. Looks pretty .
There is a mod called MechWarrior: Living Legend s. It requires Crysis: Warhead to run. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
could wait on hawken to finally show up. I mean it may take a couple of years...

Wow, that game looks awesome.

EDD on my Alienware M17x is 5/03.
Definitely going to try some of these games but can't WAIT to DL and start playing Forsaken World- it looks absolutely siiiiiiiiick. -
Great thread!
Can someone please post some recommended shmups? (old school style top down shoot 'em ups, can be either vertical or horizontal side scrolling)
Thanks! -
Try the touhou series.

Hey everyone!
I'm very new to computer gaming, but I do like a few titles. I prefer not to play RTS or FPS, but I am looking to expand my boundaries a little and try new things with some good games that are work my money.
The kind of games I like:
Batman Arkham Asylum
Prince of Persia Series
Prototype
Racing games
X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Mr. Mysterious -
Need for speed Hot pursuit
Need for speed unleashed 2
Dirt 2
DC Universe online
Legacy of Kain. Blood Omen to Soul Reaver.
Devil May Cry 4
Dungeon Siege series
Diablo series
Alas I play mostly FPS (Have gun will travel)
GAME ON.

Assassin's creed 2 and Brotherhood are fun I hear as long as you don't mind Ubisoft's DRM (Brotherhood has the newest one and better - it does not require constant internet connection. But AC2 does have the constant internet connection DRM). And if you haven't played Mass Effect 2, I hear it's a great game as well.
-

I tried AC the first one and didn't like it enough to finish it. I just uninstalled it near the end. Also, doesn't Mass Effect need you to shoot some stuff?
Mr. Mysterious -
But didn't you just say you wanted to expand your boundaries a little? Also, ME2 is not like many modern first person shooter games. It's third person shooter, and you don't need uber aiming skills or anything like that.
ME1: More RPG-ish
ME2: More action/shooting -
Can you folks recommend me some nice Star Wars games? I played KOTOR 1 and 2 and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. I liked those, especially DF2. Are there more recent developments of these two genres?
-
The only ones I've ever played were the Force Unleashed 1 & 2. It was actually fun.

Try the second AC. It's way better than the original.
