I ended up getting Mass Effect 2 and I am enjoying it! Maybe I'll try Witcher 2 next. By the time I get around to it, it should be cheaper and I like it that way.
-
Please recommend me a game. Looking for RPG, with life like elements that really pull you in. I have lots of the older rpgs (NWN, NWN2, BG, BG2, etc...)
I already have Dragons age, two worlds 2 and Witcher 2.
Thinking about...
-drakensang river of time
-Dragons age 2
-Arcania 4 (i hear this has an open world)
-Fable3 ?
Again graphics are important but RPG elements, story, open world/real world feel are just as important. Thanks for your time. -
The Mass Effect series is a great RPG with an excellent story. I'm playing through right now for a second time. The really cool thing about it is that you can import your character, and decisions you made with him/her and move on to the second game, and when the third is released next year, to that one too.
-
If graphics weren't important I'd recommend Fallout 2, pretty much the only RPG I can think of that rivals Baldur's Gate.
Since graphics matter, Oblivion and Fallout 3 come to mind. -
Thanks for the responses. I already have all the fallout series. I also already have mass effect 1/2. The list that I posted, anyone have thoughts on those?
-
Dragon age 2 I hear is disappointing in the RPG stuff. And I don't know A whole lot about Fable. the others I haven't heard of so i can't comment. Oblivion is possibly the most open world game out there, along with the entire elder scrolls series. Some people have well over 1000 hours invested in the game and can still do quests.
-
You can pick up the first fable for around £10 and its well worth the money, not the best GFX wise but plays well.
-
I really want to play Pride of Nations but I'm not sure if my Acer can handle it (in sig). Anyone familiar with how well Paradox games scale to lower spec hardware?
-
Is there anything else out there like plants vs zombies.....i've pretty much beaten it......thanks
-
Nothing exactly like PvZ, but there are many very fun casual games out there. Popcap games (makers of PvZ) has some good puzzle games, and there are other tower defense games that are kinda like PvZ. depends on what you're interested in really.

My question: I loved the Roller Coaster Tycoon series - Have any similar simulations been released in the past five years? The Sims and Sim City just don't seem to scratch the same itch.
In recent news... http://toucharcade.com/2011/06/12/wwdc-2011-a-look-at-david-whatleys-geodefense-2-and-tiny-heroes/

The only game that came close to Roller Coaster Tycoon is Roller Coaster Tycoon 2.

Hey guys Im picking up Brink and another shooter for my laptop to play, can you give any suggestions? I've been a bit turned off by Crysis 2 and what people have said about it.
I looked at the shooter list here, and I have some idea but suggestions are always nice and how the game was for you etc. -
This.
(10char) -
Mass Effect 1 & 2, and Fallout 3 & New Vegas while not really shooters are decent enough if you don't mind the RPG blend. Also, stay away from Homefront until it's 20 bucks at most. Its mp population is insignificant and sp is supposedly real short so you don't get your money's worth.
-
Well, a hard copy of BFBC2 is only 20.00$ at the local EB Games, I think i'll pick it up considering how cheap it is and the love it recieves haha.
-
Bad company 2 is a good choice, still a very populated game and a good single player campaign as well. I am worried however that your envy 14 may not be able to handle it very well. quad cores are generally better for the game. My laptop (in my signature) can handle it ok, but I have to turn some settings down quite a bit.
-
There is a deal on "Monday Night Combat" on Steam for less than 3€. Is it worth the purchase?
-
Absolutely, go for it, you won't regret it.
-
Now I know some of you might laugh at this, but I'm being completely serious. I only have this laptop to work off of, it isn't much, and the best I could do is upgrade it since buying a new one was out of the question (every other cent I have is going towards college tuition, lol). Anyway, here's what I have to work with, sadly:
- T8100 2.1GHz CPU
- 2GB PC2-6400 RAM (soon to be 3GB)
- 80GB, 5400rpm SATA HDD (soon to be 250GB, 7200rpm SATA)
- Vista Home Premium 32-bit (soon to be Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, 32-bit)
- And lastly, the only real reason I hate my laptop: a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (yay for integrated graphics...)
I don't know if updating the drivers for it will help any nor if the aforementioned upgrades (OS, HDD, more RAM) will cause any increase in performance. So, in essence, what can I play and where should I draw the line?
With these upgrades I would like to try Combat Arms and CrossFire again (decently fun games), but I highly doubt I'd be able to play something like Half Life 2, Borderlands, or Counter Strike.
Also, if I were to recommend a game it would be "Altitude." Downloaded the free trial, fell in love, and bought the full edition for $10. Youtube it and check it out because it's hours of fun. Thank you guys for any honest answers (even if they aren't pretty).
EDIT: Crap, this is what I get for not reading ahead of time what thread to put this in, sorry... -
Hi all,
Please could you recommend some games that I could comfortably run on this laptop?
Core i5-460
Nvidia Geforce 420m 1GB
4GB RAM
Any and all recommendations welcome - I'm new to PC gaming and so far have only played Fallout New Vegas, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. All genres please! No crappy games.
Edit:
Okay, maybe that was too vague. Do you think my laptop could comfortably run any of these:
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Dead Rising 2
Civ 5
Mass Effect 2
Spore
Starcraft 2
Portal 2
Many thanks. -
Is League of Legends REALLY free?
Is your character customizable and can you level him/her up? I'm pretty vague on LoL's details but am hesitant because I typically have had bad experiences with 'free; games. -
LoL is a bit like a double dip. You're a "summoner" that summons souls (you're in game character) to fight for you. On the battle field, it's pretty similar to DotA (made by the same people essentially). There's not much you can do about out-of-game leveling of your in-game souls, but you can level your summoner and add perks (think WoW talents). You can go through the entire game without paying a penny (what I'm doing lol), but if you're keen on spending real money to purchase in game money, you can do that as well to help you level faster etc. I've been playing without paying anything and it's been fine and fun. I highly recommend it.
My current Acer can run SCII at low settings with decent FPS in 4v4s; I think your laptop should be able to run it at ~medium settings. -
Just a quick reply to my ridiculous post:
Laptop graphics controllers — Game playability on Microsoft Windows Vista*
The list of supposed games that work with the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I keep seeing "GM965" and "G965," but I don't know the difference. How in the world can Call of Duty 4 be on that list? -
Well, I might give it a try then! Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a casual MMORPG to play. I played WoW for a while, eventually going into high end 25man raiding in Wrath, but I've had to stop due to this weird thing called Real Life (I heard Giant Bomb gave it a 1.0/10.0 rating). Leveling was my LEAST favorite part of wow. The primary reason I stayed on WoW was for the raids and the huge scale of the world. I'm looking for a game that I can do something of that sort without the time consumption that comes with WoW raiding. Something without a monthly fee would be preferable, but I know most MMORPGs charge. What do you guys think about Guild Wars / Guild Wars 2?
-
Check out all the new Free to Play games that popped up on Steam last week. You might find one that suits you. I'm currently playing Spiral Knights myself.

Recommend me a game for:
My next Let's Play series on Youtube. I'm about half way done with Duke Nukem Forever and when I get done I want to hop right into the next game.
The requirements for me is that it needs to be a game with some sort of progression aka a beginning and an end. So it cant be open like say Minecraft.
It needs to be entertaining, something people will want to tune into my channel and watch. It can be old or new. I went new with DNF thinking lots of people would tune in to see how the game plays to help determine if they would want to buy it or not, but it seems to me some of the more successful casters are doing more older games than newer ones so that does not seem to be the case that new games get more views/attention.
I like RPG, FPS, Platforming, SHMUPS, and other misc genre's so just think of a game you would tune in to watch and you pretty much know what you should recommend to me.
You can post the answers in this thread but it would help me even more if you take 10 seconds to fill in this form with your top 3 picks

@Vicious I think it would be cool if you did a playthrough of the new F3AR 3 game

I'm looking for a game very very similar to POP 2008. Ideas?
Mr. Mysterious -
I am looking for a turn-based RPG to play with track pad.
Thats also the reason why it has to be turn based — i cant click fast with track pad at all. Another reason is that i want something with relaxed game play. Something where my character would slowly level from 0 to 100 while getting some epic experience.
Fallout comes to mind. Though you cant really play vegas with track pad, heroes of might and magic (not exactly an rpg), got board around HOMM IV. TBH i dont know any tb rpg. Recommend me smth pls. -
How about Fallout and Fallout 2? They're on sale for 2.99 each on GOG.com.

Final Fantasy 1 - 10, 10-2, 12, 13 are all turn based.
-
I highly doubt you'd do it (and I don't blame you) but personally, I'd love to see a NBA 2K11 Let's Play. My Player or Association mode would both be neat. Even the Jordan Challenge would be pretty cool.

Diablo 3 needs to come out ASAP. No games I played this year lived up to its hype, except Diablo 2, which I beat three times this year on all three difficulties, after having played it a million times since it came out.
-
Is Diablo 2 worth playing? I know you're going to say "yes" based on the comment you just left, but hear me out. My dad has it somewhere, but I was hesitant to put it on my computer after playing the first game. Borrowed it (D1) from him one day and fell in love, great game. I just don't want the Diablo series straying too far from the original.
And I can't judge D3 based off of a Youtube video Blizzard made 3 years ago while still in production, but it looked like World of Warcraft. That kind of temporarily killed it for me. Alas, I'll have to wait and see. -
No, go and play D2. Diablo is a genre of its own and is truly unique. Of all of the rpgs I have played, I feel like this is one of the most rewarding. You won't regret it.
-
Diablo probably was the one that invented the "RPG hack n' slash" genre. Is faaar from being an RPG on the "pure style". You practically don't talk to anybody and the story is *null*. Is far from series like Ultima (the best RPG series of all time on my opinion!), Baldur's Gate or Elder Scrolls.
That being said, is an AWESOME game! I played more D1 than D2, but both are incredible. I can't wait for D3. I believe I would buy the collector's edition if available and doesn't cost 120$ bringing only more online content xD. Have tried a demo of Torchlight... but it really doesn't catch me.
So, GO AND PLAY Diablo 2

I say it's worth playing. And I have played it a lot. If I had to guess I would say almost 1000 hours (almost the same as my MW2 hours). It is way different from Diablo 1. Being open-ended leaves lots of replay value; on top of that, there are many more items, classes, skills, etc. I can't judge D3 either from the few gameplay videos released, but hopefully it won't be like WoW.
+1 to both comments. Diablo is in a genre of its own, but that's not a bad thing. I guess it's categorized under RPG because it's closest to being an RPG than anything else. -
Great, thanks for the responses guys. Time to give daddy-o a call, hehe...
-
About how many hours of play is it for a first run through Diablo 2 + the expansion?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
If you want a more modern hack & slash that is quite fun and you can just play it by yourself check out Torchlight.
-
I tried to play d2 a while back but the graphic was so ugly on my 24 inch monitor that i couldnt bear it.
-
For an inexperienced player, you'll take about 20 hours to beat Normal level with your first character, assuming you play without reading online guides on how to make an overpowered character etc.
This is severely affected by:
- Cooperative play which can significantly speed up the time it takes to finish.
- Gaining knowledge on how the game works, which also speeds up things. For example, at this point I finish Normal difficulty in about 5 hours or so, even if I only use items that I find.
- Using items from more advanced characters you have to give your weaker characters a jumpstart.
On the other hand:
- There are three difficulty levels: Normal, Nightmare, Hell. Although the places and enemies you face are the same visually in all three, the added difficulties are more than just "enemies have more hitpoints and hit harder". They gain immunities to certain elements which forces you to change strategies. Some even gain immunities to physical weapons, which makes things very interesting for sword (or axe, spear, polearm, staff, dagger, etc) based characters.
- Also important: the quality of the items that drop in higher difficulty levels becomes much better. If you only use stuff you found in Normal level, you'll never get past Nightmare.
- There are seven character classes to play and they play *very* differently. I recommend you play at least two or three so you get the feeling that you can easily enjoy the game seven times.
- Even within each class you can have quite different builds that change how you play the game.
All in all D2 is definitely an excellent game, even though I miss that dark and eerie feeling from D1.
By the way, if you guys are based in Europe, PM me and we can get together on the European realm. If you are newbies I'll help you get started.
