Depends - single and multiplayers are different. With single player, if you know what you are doing it should not take long (I usually beat each act in one sitting and I can't sit still for very long lol). If you are going for speed here are some tips:

    1. Do not pick up everything. When it comes to items, pick up only those you need. If you think you need to pick up everything and sell them for money - you are wrong. Only pick up sorceress, necromancer, and paladin staff. Those small items can be sold for a fortune, that should be your main source of income. And pick up potions till your belt is full. That's all.

    2. There is no need to capture all teleport points.

    3. Save all your low level runes and gems, they'll become useful.

    4. When your stash is full of money, start gambling. Then pick up and sell more sorc/necro/pala stuff, and repeat.

    5. Do a little research on class building before you start, if you plan on going onto nightmare/hell. If you only plan on playing on normal, then don't bother.

When you say "not GPU intensive", just how limited are we talking? Integrated Intel graphics or low-end nVidia/ATi integrated, or what?

If both of your systems can handle it, Team Fortress 2 is fun and easy to get into, especially now that it's free to play. My ex and I used to have plenty of fun just messing around on 2fort pub servers.

If you think she's skilled enough, you could try Quake Live. It's free and browser-based, and relatively easy on your system.

The Penumbra series are pretty good for that. I've heard Amnesia: The Dark Descent is good as well, though I haven't played it.

DooM 3 is worth playing through, though most of the horror is derived from suspense and "OH SH**" moments, as well as the overall dim lighting of the environments.

DooM 3 is from 2004, I tried this back in time but did never finish it.

The Penumbra did look a bit better, but IDK. How is Silent Hill, anyone played that? I had it, but never played it now I've lost it :(

Also, I would prefer a bit highend games so I can push my new laptop a little bit and see max tempratures etc.

@tunay: check out Metro 2033. It's more survival than strictly horror, but it has its moments. It'll give your laptop a run for its money, too.

@mokylim: I'm not very big on those sorts of games, but Steam recently rolled out a bunch of free games. Spiral Knights is a pretty fun little multiplayer slasher.

I undestand you... my wife loves PvZ, World of goo, etc...

My wife is a Mac user, so she is limited in games. BUT, we tried Spiral Knights (F2P) and she liked it!. You could try that.

I'm still trying to immerse her into L4D2 (gift her a steam copy xD) and TF2. Difficult, but I will!!

I really like scary games too, is almost impossible to find a game that scares to death... I'm an horror movie fan too. Amnesia is good, but really not my type. Silent Hill is good too. I LOVE Bioshock (that is really scary) and Undying. Recently bought the F.E.A.R. pack, but ain't tried it yet. Now that I think about it, I never played Doom 3!

P.S.: Have you seen The Shutter? Thailand version, not american. One of the most scary s**t I've ever seen

I have friends in Thailand so I just get them to ship it to me if the sub is available. But I was looking for it dubbed to eng tbh...

I'm installing BioShock now then, can you guarantee I'm going to be scared? Or should I also buy FEAR Project Orgin? I had retail, lost it, oh and FYI I had the special edition or limited edition with ali cover and extra stuff...

I never played any F.E.A.R. game :( but I will eventually xD.

About Bioshock... play it with some good headphones, the atmosphere is magical... you hear screams, curses, prayers... I remember arriving at one place, suddenly lights off and you hear voices, enemies sharping knives on the ground while getting closer, whispering, screams.... Also, the story is AMAZING. The gameplay is superb... it really is a classic.

World of Warcraft! You guys could level together for at least a few months. I think it's playable on IGP on lowest settings.

For single player, she may like the popcap games, have her try them out on the website before you buy anything.

Personally, Fallout 3 was a scary game for me because of the concept mixed with the 50's music and visuals ranging from two skeletons lying on a bed to Deathclaws (which, sadly, lost their scare factor over time) to the suicide letters left behind by people who've roamed "The Wastes." F*cking brilliantly done game, in my mind (also my first game on the PS3).

But I heard the Dead Space series was pretty scary. Heard a lot of sh*t jumps out at you, lol. I don't think you'd be able to find a true horror game, though. As a society we've become desensitized to a lot of stuff. Hell, the last thing that truly scared me was the movie "Aliens" and that's when I was 5 or 6, haha.

Looked up a video for Amnesia. While being some freaky sh*t I just so happened to choose the video of the guy freaking out beyond all possible reason. I had to favorite it :D But yea, that was some weird stuff. I think the not being able to fight back is what makes the game.

EDIT: Nice profile picture, by the way, lol. Also, every time I get an e-mail response ("So and so has replied to this topic") from this thread it sends me to the previous page. Anybody know why? Usually it sends me to the last comment on the last page.

I like Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Battlefield 2, Diablo, Combat Arms/CrossFire (free, online FPS), and Altitude. I would like to play Half-Life 2, the first Far Cry, and Crysis. Any other recommendations? I lean towards shooters, but something that mixes genres (Fallout, for example) is always cool.

I'm open to pretty much any PC game, though. Thanks for any opinions.

I'm looking for a game that will run well on the following hardware, genre doesn't matter really but I would prefer fps/rpg.

    i5 540m
    6gb ddr3
    nvs 3100m
    120gb ssd

Particurarly something that will take me a long time to finish, think I can run kotor on this setup?

Graphics: 32 MB with Hardware T&L
    DirectX®: Directx 9.0b or better
    Hard Drive: 3.5 GB
    Sound: Directx 9.0b compatible

    I think you're gonna be ok. :p

Nice, unfortunately Steam cannot connect to any servers on our work network here. We have a ton of downtime at work, and on days when I don't bring in my alienware I wanted something besides netflix to play/watch.
    So hmm...

I was really hoping I could get either kotor or warband installed, although i'm not too sure on the performance of this laptop. Minecraft stutters in my windows environment, but on my nix* partition it plays great.
