Have you ever played the Baldur's Gate series on PC? It is over a decade old, however it is probably one of the greatest roleplaying series every to grace the industry. I can assure you that playing through these games will take you quite a while, and you will be busy for a long time to come. Not only that, the replay value is also quite astounding due to the nature of the game, and you may just find yourself visiting the Forgotten Realms soon after you think you are done.
Amazon has a 4-in-1 box set that includes the first and second installment of the series, as well as their respective expansion sets available. They also carry just Baldur's Gate 2 and its expansion.
To get the most out of the series, you should probably look into playing from the beginning. There is also a mechanic to carry over your character from the previous game into the sequel.

Honestly, I just want a game where you don't have to worry about patches and Punkbuster not updating on its own and fuzting with the damn registry. I've done so with BF2 and Far Cry 2 for a few hours and I've only been able to play Far Cry's single player.
Why can't people just make it simpler, geez... -
Someone recommend me a good tower defense game. Preferably free. Thanks!
-
Sanctum and defense grid are both great tower defense games. They're not free though, but pretty cheap nonetheless.
-
So far my G73 is loving Rift!
-
ok...

I preferred Crysis 2 to the original. Superbly done game, excellent pacing and some great cinematic moments.

Any recommendation for racing games?
I've played all NFS games. I like the ones with customization options like ProStreet, but didn't like Prostreet much because I can't beat anything on Nitrocide... And I can't get pass the third level on the pre-Grip King levels. Drift and Drag were a piece of a cake.
Shift and Shift 2 were better, but a LOT harder compared to ProStreet.
I've played Grit, but hated the handling.
I've played Dirt games, but didn't like the lack of customization options.
PS: Everything will be played on the keyboard. -
- Borderlands: Diablo but FPS
- Batman: AA: Just one of the best
- Just Cause 2: Pure fun and adrenaline -
At this point I kind of have to give Borderlands a try. It's been mentioned way too much so I'll rent it/borrow it when I can. Same goes for Batman. I've seen a little of the gameplay and it doesn't look too shabby. As far as Just Cause 2 goes... damn... Looked at a Youtube video and read the Wiki and the storyline seems kind of cool. The gameplay looked really weird, though, and Wiki gave no explanation (apparently you can throw a grapple at someone and pull them towards you and it appears that you're superhuman).
Either way I'll have to play Crysis first (I like playing stuff in chronological order). Definitely going to try Crysis 2 even if I don't like the first game, though. -
Nah, you're not superhuman, just do some things in "superhuman ways" xD. The game is pure fun!. You got a grappling hook, and you use it to get attached to "things", or to attach things. You can use it to climb a building, to grap someone to a balloon, to grap someone to a gas tank and exploding it, to grap things to your car... million of possibilities. And you are awarded points for "chaos"... chaos being exploding everything you can
-
I got bore out of the game. The Map is huge, biggest sandbox game ever made but it quite dull after a while. Too bad you can't get drunk and drive in this game, now that would be fun.

Any games out there that's like Dragon Age Orgins or Dragon Age2?
I try a ton of other games but it just doesn't compare to Dragon Age Origns. So far I have tryied
Divinity 2 the Dragon knight Sage
Dungeouns and Dragons
Ovlivion the Elder Scrolls
King's Bounty
Witcher 2
Two Worlds.
I like the combat system a lot from Dragon Age and how I can interact with my group members. So far all the games I try seems to be lacking something. -
No game is going to have the exact same system as another, unless it is a direct sequel. if all you want is a DA clone just play DA again.
-
^^ is true. I am also waiting for Diablo 3. Sigh it seems a lot of PC games these days is just.... too rush. There isn't much though into the story line and there doesn't seem to be any kind of deep development gone into it.
-
That is true, every game is different. None of the games you tried follows the same principles, you must search on older games, the ones that built the DA bases...
If you don't care much about modern graphics, I must say you could try Baldur's Gate (1 & 2) and planescape torment. In my opinion, far superior games (mostly BG2, is a masterpiece). That is why I don't recommend games such as Ultima series, the BEST RPG series EVER in my opinion (Ultima 7 is my fav)... but too old for most people
Is just a matter of taste, I like mostly older games, but new games are beautiful too... just don't try to compare too much. That being said, Diablo series are even far from DA style than everything you mentioned... -
Diablo 3 looked too iffy. Then again they only have up the demo from around 2 years ago
I'll stick to my beloved D1 and play D2 when I have the chance. Probably not any time soon as I'm buying the Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3 within the week. Hundreds of hours of gameplay, here I come
But you want rushed? Regarding the media itself (not the games), Microsoft and Sony released the 360 and PS3 so early that they couldn't even bother to tell anyone about the respective "Rings of Death." I think the same goes for some games. -
I remember when I play Diablo2 is was really enjoyable just like DA:O Hopefully when DA3 comes out it will be great.
-
Neverwinter nights (and also 2) is what you want. And to a lesser extent, dungeon siege (and 2/3).
Any ideas for me with an i7 and a gt 520? I really like older games that I never got a chance to play. Recently it was NWN 1 and Anno 1602, though now it's ANNO 1404 and Fable 3.
Any other ideas? I'll also try borderlands because of the freaking thumbs up, but I like fable-esque games. Can't do Elder Scrolls-like games because I don't have OVER 9000 years to spend on building up my character and so many choices... -
It doesn't take that long to create your character. Just autogenerate, then pick a preset class.
-
I can't stand an auto-generated character. I have to spend time to make it look how I want only base character that I actually liked was the male Shepard on Mass Effect.
-
any game that's somewhat like mass effect 2.
or a shooter game with a good storyline. [im not big fan of multiplayer game options.] -
Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Bioshock, Half Life series...
Some say Call of Juarez: Bound in blood has a great storyline. -
Most didn't seem to like it and ran into some bugs, but I think Alpha Protocol deserves a look. Some good espionage fun to be had.
-
i've consider those option but none really had an appeal to me base on other players gameplay video on youtube.
thanks tho.
ill check it out and see how it goes from there.
Mass effect 2 is really quite a different game lol. it got me hook so bad that i now prefer offline games than mmo's that im usually into.
Edit: does alpha protocol support dx10/11, cause the 6755g2 has some issues with dx9 games. -
which survival/horror games are out there?
Was a fan of Resident Evil series, and I saw the 5th on console, sadly It looked like a generic shooter more than a survival (and yes, I've destroyed RE4 on my Ps2 ages ago :3)
Also
Other Street Fighter, I guess there are no Beat Em Up on pc right? -
Go old-school and play Baldur's Gate II...just a spectacular gaming experience. The lack of time is a slight problem however...
-
Planescape Torment is more "linear" than BG 2 (and the script is AWESOME) if time is a problem
-
Dead Space 1 and 2 would be a good survival/horror game if you are on the hardest difficulty setting. As well as Amnesia: the dark descent.

Another good survival horror game(s) is the Stalker series! Fantastic atmosphere and can get REALLY creepy at times!
-
Could you recommend me a game, such as The longest journey 2? That's by far the sickest adventure game! Is there any similar game?
-
I assume you've played its predecessor, "The longest journey"?
There was a highly rated indie-developed game of the same genre released two years ago, I think the title was "Machinarium" or something to the effect. -
I never played that game, but when Still Life goes on sale on Steam, it raises comparisons with The Longest Journey and Syberia. BUt as I'm reading, TLJ2 has an RPG touch...
-
Anybody have any suggestions for some open world RPGs. I am waiting for Skyrim to come out and am wondering if there are any other games to get me ready for it. Played many hours of Morrowind and Oblivion and hoping there are other great games out there.
-
fallout if you're into the western thing. -
So I've never really played PC games that weren't ported to consoles. Now that I'm getting a "gaming laptop" I was wondering if someone could recommend good story driven games that have come out exclusively for pc in the last few years. Not looking for MMORPGS though.
-
Stalker is awesome, just make sure you skip the 2nd game as it's easily the weakest of the series.
-
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
indeed i was talking about CoP which is fantastic :3 -
Blizzard games are pretty good. If you don't mind decade old graphics, The original StarCraft and it's expansions have dozens of hours of gameplay, and it's continued in SC2.
It's also a good idea to check out Indie Games, There a hundreds of them, and they are a LOT of fun. one of the best platforms I've played is Trine, And one of my favorite Co-op games is Magicka. The Humble Bundle Three Is out right now, and it seems to include some pretty awesome games. -
And if donate enough, you get Humble #2 too! 5 more games, all of them excellent! Also there is Terraria... or Minecraft if you wish.
The Witcher 1 & 2 seems to be PC exclusive too -
Well I finally am getting a laptop and was wondering if you guys could recommend some games for me. I guess I could list off games that I have played/looking forward too, so that you I can give you an idea of what kind of games I like?
I'm really looking forward to Skyrim and Guild Wars 2. I've mostly played games on Ps3 and these are games that I've played and liked. Guild wars 1, Oblivion, Call of duty Black Ops, Little Big Planet and Uncharted. I've been looking at the Witcher 2 and Crysis 2? Would you recommend these, I'm looking for 1-2 games to keep me busy for the next 3 months until Skyrim comes out so any suggestions are appreciated! -
Witcher seems like a good choice, as well as Dragon age. Oblivion is worth getting on the PC for the excellent modding community that is on the PC.
Half Life 2 is a fun shooter with a good story. You should also try Battlefield Bad Company 2 (or jump into BF3 for 64 person multiplayer). Many people enjoy it a lot more than the CoD series, and it has a great community. -
Can you play the Witcher in first person or no? Also between these 3 shooters which would you suggest Crysis, Crysis 2, or BF2?
-
I assume you mean BF:BC2. And I would definitely go for that over the other two. I haven't played Crysis 2, nor do I plan to. The first crysis was cool to look at but I never was really interested in it... BF:BC2 is awesome, and the upcoming BF3 looks even better.
The Witcher can be played in first person with a mod only. -
I'll probably pick up BF:BC2 for sure because its only $20 and do a lot of people still play online. I'm still trying to figure out what RPG or MMO I want to get, anymore suggestions in that genre besides the Witcher 2? Thanks!
-
Bad company 2 still has a lot of people that play online.
For an RPG, there's Dragon age Origins and Dragon age 2, Fallout Series, Mass Effect Series.
MMO: Star Wars: The Old Republic is Coming soon, as well as Guild Wars 2. and There is always WoW. -
Which Dragon age Origins is better the 1st or 2nd one. I've heard it's more of a strategy RPG, I've never played a strategy RPG before. The reason I've stayed away from Fallout is because I just can't see a RPG game with guns, I like the medieval kind of RPG's like Morrowind, Oblivion and soon Skyrim! So my best choices would probably dragon age origins 1 or 2 (which ever you think is better) or the Witcher 2.
-
Never played Dragon Age 2, but from what I hear, Dragon Age: Origins is a much better game, More RPG style. the action is different than oblivion because it pauses right before it starts, and you can plan the moves of your entire party before the fight starts, and can pause in between to change styles. Look up some youtube videos of the witcher 2 and DA:O if you can't decide to help you make up your mind.

Looking for a game recommendation...
Some games I have played before and really enjoyed are:
World of Warcraft
Diablo 2
Age of the Empires
Age of Mythology
I think I like games that are MMORPGS and online RTS games.
I should also add that the game must be playable on the T420 with NVS 4200 -
If you like online RTS then SC2.... For the MMO side just wait for GW2. We should have a release date soon.
