I never realized how many PC games there are. Can you play mass effect 2, even if you haven't played the 1st one? Also which fallout game would you recommend.
-
-
You can, but I recommend getting the first one too if you can. Or there's a DLC that allows you to make all the major decisions from the first game in about 10 minutes.
I'm not a huge fan of fallout, so I'm not the best person to ask about that.
If you like the medieval style of game, I suggest you look at Trine. It's an awesome Platformer. -
I really liked Fallout 2. Fallout 3 is very good, but not vanilla imo, it's too fast and battles are too easy that way. I really enjoyed Fallout 3 with mods on fallout nexus, like Wanderer's edition and Martingen's Monster mod. Install realism mods and Fallout 3 becomes an amazing post apocalyptic experience like no other before.
-
Regarding the Fallout recommendation, ask yourself this question: can I play a game even if it has 15-year dated graphics?
If yes, Fallout 2 is WAY superior to Fallout 3 as an RPG. Better story, much more quests and stuff to do, ridiculously better humor, and more challenging RPG aspect (whereas in Fallout 3+DLC you end up having a godly character who excels at everything, even if you don't try to). IMO Fallout 1+2 are the second best RPG series ever made, second only to Baldur's Gate.
Fallout 2 is also cheaper at GOG.com and has no DRM
If not, then Fallout 3 because the graphics are, obviously, much better. -
A little correction xD
I'll put Ultima 7 on the first place -
I was referring to the Baldur's Gate series, which includes BG2
-
The first starcraft.. Damn.. Good old times.
-
Now guys, before I make this post, I'm gonna get serious.
The game I recommend, is Transformers Armada. Came out in 2004 (Or was it 2007)
That game, was so hard! You first roam through the Amazon jungle fighting bad guys who give you the creeps while scary freakin' music rolls in the background. The boss fights are amazing, you fight Tidal Wave, who's big as crap can get. Best boss fight ever.
The soundtrack is also pretty good. Too good...
The hours put into destroying Starscream with a wobbling tooth!
I still have my copy from the days. it's one of those games which made the true gamer come out of me!
Awesome game...HIGHLY recommend it. It's better then playing Crysis 5000 with reality physics and such. And the games cheap too.
Get it. -
Crysis 2 is a better game than the original, IMO.
-
I never played BF:BC2, but played BF 1942 and BF2. Both were awesome!. And I only played them on singleplayer most of the time!
I never played Crysis, but I'm more toward trying the second one -
I recommend BF3 when it comes out. I played it in Alpha and it was great. VERY optimized for the computer for such an early stage. Runs better than BC2 on my computer.
-
You guys know any good racing sims, like GT5 and Forza 3, for PC? Able to customize my cars, tweaking and upgrading. Different modes like careers and drift. Most importantly, licensed cars with physics and such.
-
Sadly PC gamers get the short stick on that. Your best bet is probably Need For Speed: Shift (and Shift 2). But if you ever played GT5, you're in for disappointment.
-
RPG games i really like:
Mostly single player. (I have a bad internet connection
)
Level grinding.
Lots of weapons and armor.
Any theme. (From medieval to sci-fi.)
Tons and tons of quests.
Character customization or job-class feature.
Non-ending respawn of monsters. (100% wanted!)
Open-ended gameplay (THIS IS WHAT I REALLY LIKED!)
Please if anyone know about these kind of RPG games, let me know.
Many thanks
-
It seems like you're looking for basically an MMO, but single player. Hard to find. I would say Dragon Age: Origins or Diablo 2 (3 when it comes out) would be closest to what you're looking for. Diablo isn't very open-ended, though.
-
Yes something like that. Well i'm going wait for Diablo 3 though it's not really non-linear but i think it's going to be a good game.
-
Guild Wars 2 (when it comes out)? They probably have servers in Asia so you might have a better ping on those.
Guild Wars 2 - Top 10 Reasons to be Interested - YouTube
Fallout 3/New Vegas? Dunno if these are applicable, but they are both awesome freeroam RPGs
-
Well, as long as NFS Shift was in the recommendation. I was researching on that game it seemed like a close alternative. I was expecting more of GRID.
-
The Elder Scrolls series should also be close to what you want, lots of character customization, very open ended, single player, i can't remember if mobs respawn or not though. TES IV: Oblivion is still a nice game despite it's age and TES V will come out this fall.
-
Mass Effect fits the bill for the most part, except for monster respawning. But there's still no shortage of combat.
It's got plenty of level grinding (up to 60 ranks IIRC, and you can distribute skill points for you and your squad however you like). Plenty of weapons and armor, and mods for all of them, once again, for you and your team. Lots of missions and side quests, character customization (appearance, gender, class, powers), and plenty of decisions to make that will affect you later in the game, or in the sequels.
Mass Effect 2 is more of the same for the most part, although it's a little less of an RPG and a little more shooter. Still very fun though. -
Why'd ya make 2 threads asking the same thing?
-
Titans Quest
cheap on steam, lots of classes, with the option to combine 2 classes, lots of armor/wep upgrades, lots of stats to modify -
Have you played all of the oldies but goodies?
Games like: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, The Icewind Dale Trilogy, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, etc.
Those are some of the best RPG's I've ever played. -
Am I really the only person to mention Torchlight? A bunch of people involved with Diablo II made a game ridiculously similar to Diablo II, but with a steampunk twist and the advantage of ten years of additional refinement (the level-up system works better, as does the ability to use multiple abilities in combat (you've got two mouse hotkeys for abilties and four more in number slots, so you can easily use six abilities in combat instead of two).
-
too bad it gets repetitive after the first 3 hours, at least for me I never did finish it because it was the same ole over and over and over.
-
I can't disagree with that, but I feel the same way about any level-grinding-oriented RPG. And that's what the original poster asked for.
-
your best bet is elder scroll: Oblivion. it has open play, lots of quests, and great mods.
also consider Fall out 3 and new vegas which has great story, characters, weapons and atmosphere. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
SWAT4 + it's add-on The Strechkov Syndicate. Fun game especially in CO-OP. Two teams up to 5 persons in each against NPCs which you have to arrest of shoot, depending on the situation. Why, oh why no one will make SWAT5? I'm so fed up with CoD/BF. Every year same stuff...
-
SWAT 4 is a superb game. Nothing like yelling "ON THE GROUND" and following it up with a beanbag off the domepiece.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
hockeymass that's why even play it to this day. But I must admit, it is dying...
-
Err..............Fallout's 1 and 2 !
-
I have a bias towards fantasy realms vs. the post apocalyptic scene, as you can tell
Fallout 1 & 2 are excellent games in their own right, but I'd still take any of the games that I mentioned over them. All a matter of preference of course.
From where I'm standing, the Baldur's Gate series set the bar. Or one could argue MUD's and Dungeons & Dragons tabletop before it. -
How could I forget Bard's Tale and Wizardry!
-
Fallout 3/NV, STALKER soc/cop
-
Oldie but goody, Freelancer.
-
Arx Fatalis was another fun one back in the day.
-
Some old skool ones and my all time favourites:
- Chrono Trigger (SNES / PS1 Remake)
- Final Fantasy III (SNES / PS1 Remake + Relabel to #6)
Trust me, you won't be disappointed with the story.
-
Could try Mount and Blade. Completely open ended, can build your own armies, level up, bunch of different equipment to use. Pretty cool if you like the mideval theme.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
290 different quests
180 different dungeons
10 different races
9 different cities
dozens of class variations including custom classes
8 different birthsigns you can choose
21 different skills
5 different guild-type factions you can join with detailed questlines and ranks
300+ unique factions in the game governing NPC behavior (the PC can only join some of these)
1000s of weapons, armor, items
256 different in-game lore books you can read (some of these improve your skills - others are really great little stories)
If you are playing on PC, then you have some really amazing mods available that add 1000s more weapons, dozens of factions, hundreds of quests and new locations. Total around 40,000 different mods available to download for Oblivion, all of them 100% free.
Completely open-ended. Individual playthroughs of 300-500 hours are relatively common for Oblivion and Morrowind, and playthroughs lasting more than 1000 hours are not unheard of. I've been playing Oblivion for years and never even touched the main quest.
Also, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is great - just started this one but it also has hundreds of quests, lots of factions and an amazing story. -

Try the old Gothic games. They're pretty special, mostly because they're all about survival, slowly leveling up your character and learning new techniques, all while questing for different factions. They go for a pretty realistic approach (as much as possible in a fantasy world, ofc) and have some pretty nice details, like your character holding his weapon in a different way as he learns more and more techniques.

Are there any 3D dungeon crawlers? or Good RPGs where you can get cool armor and have many class setups (for replay value)? I've played New Vegas and Oblivion but my hard drive crashed with all my saves and I don't want to restart either of them :|
Dragon Age Origins maybe? Two World 2? -
Dragon age has a few optiond for replay value, but the story is basically the same without a whole lot of open world feel to it.
Torchlight is a dungeon crawler, or wait for Diablo3

Anyone got a recommendation for me. I used to love playing games like the Wing Commander Series, Strike Commander, Privateer, and Freelancer. I miss that genre of game. What is everyone playing?
-
Revenant was very good too. Don't know if is easy to get and if will work on Win7.
On the other hand, but not "dungeon" style are the Freedom Force series. Also "The Baconing" sounds promising. -
I think space combat sims are pretty dead. However, if you've never played Freespace 2, it's a phenomenal example of the genre, and it's been liberated by the publisher, so it's free. There are places where you can download it, and also mods to bring the graphics up to a more modern level. For a game from 1999, it's just awesome.
-
Yeah, there aren't many games in the genre anymore. You might like to try Black Prophecy which has a Freelancer feel. There's also Evochron Mercenary. There's always the X series if you haven't tried it. And a couple of oldies that still look good, Freespace 2 and The Babylon Project.

I started again Stalker call of pripyat.... I played for 8 hours straight, man this game is addictive x)
-
I never played the stalker series. What makes them so great and addicting?
-
I don't really know... I guess I just like killing mutants in old radioactive buildings
If I had to tell why I like those games, I'd say
- Great atmosphere
- Great freedom
- Many side quests -
Best free game in the world?
