If anyone wants a good story-based game, the best IMO is the halflife series (frikin awesome!) and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic had a great story line to it.
I always like to swtich between a modern game and like ancient games (for example, shooting games w/ guns like Bf3 and ancient games like Fable)
Best modern shooter (yet to come out) BF3!!! -
^^Oh yes yes! I like your style. Star Wars KOTOR1 has the best storyline I have ever seen in my life. Mass Effect 1 is also good (2 is very linear but still good!)
I have never played HL1 or HL2 because they have never appealed to me. That, and the irony is that I love every Source game but I have not check out the HL series. -
Can anyone recommend any good WW2 or WW1 games? preferably where you play as the british?
Also can anyone reccomend a good RPG? Some like oblivion or diablo 2 or Dungeon siege 2 - something big and winding but with lots of equipment and skills etc -
Dragon Age:Origins is a decent RPG with lots of equipment and stuff.
There's also the Falllout series, HUGE area and lots of stuff to find and do, if you're interested in the western setting.
Mass effect is a pretty good RPG. The second one is a lot more linear and less euipment though. -
Is dragon age very linear? or can you spend hours just killing spawning enemy (like in fable or diablo 2) ?
I have played fallout 3 + the expansions. Is new vegas better? or just different?
Actually does anyone know an RPG(might also be RTS) games were you control and upgrade a ship or fleet - part by part? or anything like that -
Is there any really good active multiplayer FPS that is NOT CoD?
I'm really bored of CoD. But I like more 'realistic' games. -
Dragon age: Origins was non-linear for the most part, you had some important choices to make, the second game is much more linear. In the first game, if i remember correctly, most of the stuff you kill will not spawn back.
New Vegas has more content, but I'd say the story felt more empty. The game is great however, definitely should check it out if you liked fallout 3.
And I wish i knew a game like you asked
, would be awesome.

lupusarcanus when I think you should think about buying Red Orchestra/Red Orchestra 2. Otherwise Check ArmA, but it's too difficult IMO.
arnold-edward FO NV is basically "moar" of the same. Like Sunbros said it's story definitely felt a bit empty for me, maybe because I don't have any DLCs, people say that they expand a great deal of story. But unlike FO3, NV is closer to it's roots.
DAO is a good game, but I really got bored of that Bioware "epicness". It pretty much shares the same story as ME2. And there is no vast areas just to screw around and kill some monsters. Otherwise a really good product but not like TES/new FO series.build an army and kill some evil bunghole (it's not a swear word right? lol ) in the end of the game -

Well... you can always try CS 1.6 if you haven't already.
Harder than CoD tho, and the community sucks. -
Battlefield is very active. pick up Bad company 2 or BF3 when it comes out. more realistic than CoD in my opinion.
-
America's Army 3 is (arguably) a more realistic FPS. It's free too (with no "but you can pay for X" caveats -- it's really free).
The downside is that there aren't that many players (enough to find near-full servers though), and there are still one or two bugs which are luckily less common.
On the upside, the general community is very friendly and helpful. -

^I'm impressed! Seems like a good game! Will download or check out!

Is either BF:BC2 or CoD:BO worth the money at this point?
-
Both are still fairly active, but that will probably change in the next couple months. MW2 is a ghost town now, so I assume BO will become that way after MW3 is out.

I dug up a very great game - Airfix Dogfight. Very neat idea to fly with small model planes around the house and reenact a WWII.

I think the upcoming Borderlands 2 is also a free-roam FPS RPG and will feature a BTC (Behind-The-Camera) view... well i don't know if that's true.
Any free-roaming is good enough for me especially when it's RPG.
Oh... Just Cause 2 is awesome, somewhat GTA style. -

With Batman Arkham City being a little over a month away, if you haven't played to death Arkham Asylum I would highly-highly-HIGHLY recommend it. It's probably my personal "sleeper hit" of all time, I just got the game when Steam had it on sale for dirt cheap.
-
I still need to pick up a 360 controller to play this. It never felt comfortable with keys to me.
-
JC2 is like Mercenaries to me. It's actually almost exactly like Mercenaries, except JC2 has a lot more freedom of movement.

Heh yeah, I got mine on ebay because they are still completely over priced. But yeah, I rarely play a game on my rig w/o a controller -
Most games are fine with a Mouse/keyboard for me, but a very limited few need a controller IMO. -

Like the last level of GTA 4
that was the reason for me to buy the Xbox controller
-
GTAIV was made to be played with a controller. No exceptions.
-
I keep coming back to Spiral Knights "free" on Steam. Interesting to play with friends, particularly on the high, harder levels needing some skill and strategy.
Recommended.
-
StarCraft 2 FTW gg!
-
My favorite games right now are The Witcher and Witcher 2. Basically the golden standard of modern computer RPGs. The original is always on sale, and the second one is on Amazon for 23.99, I believe.

I have a GT 240M and t9600, please recommend games that would run at 1920X1080 on high settings.
I want games that will make the most of my hardware. Im not new to PC gaming I have just been out of it for a while and I want to know which of the high rated fps and action games will look the best while running at 50+ FPS on my laptop.
Games I already have played close to max
cod 1,2,3,4 - imo 2 was the best by far
nba 2k 9,10,11
fifa 10,11
NFSMW
burnout paradise - worked awesome and I loved it but im done with it
GRID " "
TF2 - best online multiplayer that I can play for 15 minutes or less at a time.
assasins creed - just weird
and many others
More specifically im looking for a single player shooter that also has vehicles with great graphics that's well known and will run well (1080p no AA but everything else on high)
games im currently considering purchasing are
Bad company 2
black ops
dirt 2 or 3
Men of War: Assault Squad
Dead Space 2
Tropico 4
bulletstorm
The reason I have decided to take up gaming again is because I have recently been told by my a few docs that I can no longer play sports because of injuries. -
I have a few questions for you gaming experts:
1) Does anyone know if the first Splinter Cell supports (natively or through mods) an Xbox 360 controller? If not, when did the SC series start supporting this controller?
2) Can someone recommend me good split-screen coop games? I will try to convince my wife to join me in them. RPG-like games are preferable, and it's a good idea if controls are easy. -
Bumpity bump?
-
I'll check my Splinter cell when i get home.
-
Thanks, I'd really appreciate it
-
I would check out the mass effect series, they are really good

Did anyone played Non-Target System MMORPG? any recommendations?
-
Sorry, got home late last night, and will tonight too. I will try this weekend.
-
OK, thanks for the update. I'm thinking of ordering the Splinter Cell Trilogy from Amazon and would like to know if the controller can be used.
-
I opened up the game and didn't see an option for controller, and I don't have one to test it with. My guess is no on the first one... maybe try a search? -
Thanks anyway. I of course tried to search, but if I search "splinter cell pc xbox controller" for example, all I get are entries for the more modern SC games like Conviction or Double Agent. Since the original game doesn't have a subtitle, searching is difficult.
-
any ideas for xbox 360 gamepad for original splinter cell [Archive] - Steam Users' Forums
You must strengthen your Google-fu, young one.
Short answer, not really. If you read that thread, there's a way to get it working, kind of, but it's not going to be as good as if it were coded into the game. -
Ah, nice find! It's the "plan B" solution I had already considered, using PPjoy or something similar (they recommend Xpadder) to map buttons and joysticks into keys or mouse input.
Still, thanks for the link. +rep -
mass effects, mafia 1 and 2 and dragon ages for now

He might also check out Alpha Protocol. I bought it last time on Steam sale for ridiculous 2.50 EUR. Has a very interesting story with great characters and a high replay value.
