There's no harm in him asking in a new thread.

To the OP, I get all my old games from the amazon marketplace. Good selection, and good prices if you shop around. TONS of old games, I still have 47 left on my wishlist that is slowly dwindling.

If you have a joystick, I recommend X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter (lame name, but it's totally different from the first two) and X-Wing Alliance. The four of them are from the era of Pentium II's, so they should run on literally anything, and I still find myself going back and playing them again 15 years later. Getting them to run on a 64-bit operating system is a pain, but they'll run on XP just fine.

    gta san andreas (great game)
    mafia (great game)
    red alert II
    baldur's gate series (epic)
city life (entertaining, boring after a while)
fable (absolutely great, but it could lag a bit on your system, check system requirements)

Awww man Tie Fighter!! Tie Fighter was a DOS game, wasn't it? Or was it Win95? I think I remember playing on Win95. What a fun game though. IMO one of the best space combat sims ever made. I wasn't baller enough to have the version that came on floppy disks though :).

Speaking of old games - Oregon Trail or Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, anyone?

I've also started playing audiosurf. Great casual game and it only costs $10 on steam.

There was a re-release in 1995, which contained both games under the title of X-Wing Collector's Series. They were both Windows 95 games, but with a bit of googling they'll even run in Windows 7.

Sadly, it's not on gog so if you didn't get it when it came out new, it's pretty hard to find now.

    Old DOS games:
-Hugo's House of Horrors and its sequels
-King's Quest series (difficult and frustrating, to say the least).
-LucasArts point 'n click games (Monkey Island series, Indiana Jones series, etc.)
    -Adventures of Maddog Wiliams
    -Alone in the Dark series
    -Last Half of Darkness series
    -Blood series
    -Legend of Kyrandia series
And not old, but still great: the Chzo mythos games by Yahtzee

    Not at all.

I talked with a few moderators about making a "Recommend me a Game" thread for questions just like this, so we didn't have to keep seeing the same thread pop up every few days.

It makes the forum easier to manage, and people can go to one thread and either look for games from the list I created, or simply post a question.

The fact that it is made by me should make no difference. I only did it to relive the mods from having to make it. :)

All, I have purchased heroes over europe but haven't installed it yet. Can folks give me some ideas for ww2 flyers? Here are my requirements...

    1. Play-ability and re-playability are key to me. I like games that are optimized for PC and the game encourages you to continue playing. You know, kind of like an RPG.. gain levels, more guns, better ammo, more speed, etc...

    2. The game has to be compatible with 360 controller or joystick (360 preferred)

    3. Decent to Good graphics. I know 5 year old games are good but something that looks a bit more recent.

    4. Something that is FUN TO PLAY and doesn't require 100 hours of real flying time to play. I only have 1 hour of flying time so I dont want to have to purchase a cockpit to figure out how to play it.

Thanks for all your time and effort. My M11X specs are below is if the games are too demanding please let me know.

    Best Wishes,

    StevenX

That's a tough one as RPG aspects are not really in flying games. However I can list some generally good PC WW2 sims:

Wings of Prey, which just came out and is very good looking. It will tax your M11X at max settings, but still look good with settings lowered. It's very fun to play. I play it with a full force feedback system. I like getting crazy into it. I only with a had a TrackIR for it too.

IL-2 Sturmovik, is Wings of Prey's predecessor. Much lighter on computational needs (came out in the early 2000s), and still fun as well as realistic. The 1946 add on is a must. Most likely you'll only find the game in it's IL-2 1946 form, but that's ok since it comes with the original + add-on + Pacific Fighters as well. It's a good value. Problem is that the visuals are very early 2000s.

There are some other lower profile WW2 sims out there but I can't think of them. A quick google search would help, but the two I listed are pretty much the best out there from what I've heard.

    FYI, I bought IL-2 pack includes Lock-On, IL-2 and the Pacific Expansion ($7.50) with IL-2 1946 ($5). I bought them at Gogamer.com

edit: Ooh I forgot if you can find Battle of Britain II it's a damn good WWII fighter especially with the latest patch. I bought that from GoGamer for $3.50

    Have you tried DiRT 2?

It's more Rally Cross racing, with both dirt and street tracks.

Not as customizable as the NFS series (color, decals, rims, body kits, etc), but it is really fun.

Umm, well I don't know of any free roam racing games except for the earlier Need for Speed games like "Need for Speed Wanted".

But ya, if you want a free roam game that isn't racing but has cars available, GTA IV and Just Cause 2 are good ones.

I would also mention Saint's Row 2, but it is a TERRIBLE PC port.

I think I asked this on another topic but this seems to be a good place. How's the X3 game/series? There was a Steam sale but I decided to pass. I've always loved the future space motif with trading/exploring etc... (think Escape Velocity/Freelancer) but I here it has a sharp learning curve. I tried EVE but never got into it but I didn't want to learn while paying a monthly fee. Is the story/universe good? I'm just worried that its overly complex and lacks little story outside of "earn more money." Any input would be appreciated while I wait for the next sale.

I just tried Torchlight demo on Steam. It's great IMO. I just bought it.
    What about Fallout 3?

STALKER: Call of Pripyat is a GREAT game. If you don't want to shell out $30, try Shadow of Chernobyl then.

IMO, don't go for fallout 3, for some reason, I felt like I was doing nothing, like I was alone is some planet, with nothing to do, no ammo, no weapons, no nothing !!

They say Dragon Age: Origins is the best game out there, but I didn't try it, nor did I see a preview of it, so I can't tell you anything that is a personal opinion.

Elder scrolls: Oblivion got some nice reviews, but I don't think that you'll liuke the graphics, that is if you're looking for some really nice graphics.

    hope this helps

I thought Dragon Age was... myeh, but if you liked Mass Effect 2, I'm sure you'd be all over it. Graphics were a bit console-port-ish, but there's a hi-res texture mod floating around out there that's pretty good.

I did however enjoy Fallout 3. It takes a while to get into it. You start out at about the level of an average dude with a quicksave button, but you eventually get pretty darn powerful, and there are lots of fun "builds" you can try out, too. And don't focus on the main story quest for too long, either - allow yourself to get distracted, and set out to explore once you can survive the wasteland on your own. Exploration is its own reward in that game.

The only bad thing about Fallout 3 is that you kinda feel you're not changing anything at all. Well, some things do change (people talk to you differently and stuff), but still, it feels too "artificial", like you just triggered an event.

    Hey folks.

Just checking out what's been happening on the gaming front.

Looks like I've missed a fair amount of action.

Still gaming on C2Duo 2.50GHz and 8800m GTX 512mb,4gb mem.

I mostly play first person shooters and noticed that BF:BC2 looks like the game of choice at the moment.

If any of you reading this happen to have the same sys specs as myself and also own a copy of BF:BC2 hows the performance playing this game on these sys settings? What res and detail level do you run it on?

Any other gaming recommendations you would like to suggest please go ahead.

    Many thanks.

    DOA.

Ps. Anyone having problems updating to 197.16?

Just Cause 2 is like GTA IV. It's a sandbox style game (go anywhere, do anything kinda game).

Check Youtube for some video's on it. It's a pretty fun game.

Currently working my way through Fallout 3 + DLC (be starting the Op Anchorage scenario sometime tomorrow...), so I'm wondering what I should put on my plate next.

Thinking of an RPG, a good long one with loads of content, since FO3's been spoiling me with lots to do. After FO3 I am thinking perhaps a change of scenery (read: probably not sci-fi) is in order.

And no, I'm not terribly interested in Alpha Protocol. I already played Oblivion a while ago.

Any good suggestions? My lappy is in my sig, so anything it can run, please let me know!
