Have you played "The Witcher?" Although I was initially frustrated with all the bugs since the Enhanced Edition or whatever they call it came out it is a great game. Witcher, The (pc) reviews at Metacritic.com
If you want another Action-RPG style game but that is first person like Fallout 3 then try "Borderlands." It plays very much like a 3rd person action-rpg ala Diablo 2 but the slick fps controls make it very fun (much better than the slow down time I can't run and shoot accurately mechanic in Fallout 3 that killed the game for me) Borderlands (pc) reviews at Metacritic.com

Mass Effect 1 and 2 are amazing games. They are kinda sci-fi, but one of the best RPG games IMO.

Oh, I'm going to grab ME at some point, but I don't want to eff around with securom so I'm buying the Steam version of ME... which I can't do until school starts again because that's the only place I can get a good Internet connection. D:
I've played The Witcher, loved it. Great game despite the bugs.
How about Dragon Age? I hear lots of good things in reviews, but is it really that good? Supposedly the "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate II and I find that to be some pretty big shoes to fill... -
Ya, Dragon Age is pretty fun. I only got a chance to play a few minutes of it, but maybe someone with more playtime can give you more details.
For some reason, not a whole lot of people like replying to questions on this thread. -
I have finished Dragon Age Origins and currently playing the expansion, awakening, now if youlike Baldur's Gate, you will definitely love Dragon age, its a very good game. I would recommend it to RPG fans, plus if you have read the Wheel of Time(Novels) series, you would probably enjoy this more, as the game has many references from the novels.
-
I was thinking about Battlefield 2 from 2005, is it a fun game? I also read it had a lot of problems which put me off from checking it out, now I'm reading that it doesn't work on Windows 7 for a lot of people.
-
I want an RPG the same type as Fable as in game play, graphics and setting -
Depending on your race/class, Dragon Age has several different beginnings, and depending on the choices you make in the game, there are several endings.
The story is dark and sometimes gritty, and the choices you make can be morally difficult. For example, a young boy has been possessed by an evil spirit. Do you kill the boy to stop the spirit, or do you let the boy's mother sacrifice her life to save his life?
If you like rpgs, and you enjoyed BG and NWN, then I can't recommend this game enough. Hope you like it. -
Far cry 2 have the best graphics and gameplay is not bad
-
So I'm looking for a game or two to play...
I've always been a fan of CnC so I've been looking at CnC3 (already bought a copy, but the disk was bum (corrupt installations) and EA didn't do anything about it).
I have played WoW. I loved it. My only qualm is that it's such a slippery slope; that and I'm going to college. I don't think I'll have the extra $15 or whatever to pay for it every month.
I really love the Halo series.
I've been eying Mass Effect.
I'm looking for something I can play in my spare time. FPS and RTS are my favorites, followed by MMORPG.
Laptop Specs, if those help:
i7 720
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
8GB Ram
7200 RPM HDD -
Maybe Crysis?

I'd try Xpand Rally, great little known rally game that is super cheap now over steam.
Runs/looks great with relatively high settings/resolution on my T60p! -
The V5200 (Radeon x1600) isn't going to be able to handle many modern "high resolution, excellent graphics" games.
-
Not sure about Sports Games.
Racing: Need for Speed Shift, DiRT 2
Adventure: Batman Arkham Asylum is a really good one, Mass Effect 2 are just some to mention. -
thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
And that's your standards.... that his card won't be able to display any high res gaming
Max out CoD 2, i know i know this is "so old and outdated" but it's still a fantastic CoD, it's got surprisingly great graphics, especially when maxed out, which your card could easily do, DX9 mode enables that nice HDR, glimmer, beautiful looking water, certain campaign countries look better than others, i'd say the one with the most eye candy would be the missions where you push back to the white cliffs of Normandy after clearing out the enemy (was going to say Jerries but i have no idea who you are fighting, too tired from work). -
I've been in the console scene since around xbox. I've just ordered a M17x and am wondering what are the big PC games? I keep hearing about crysis and Dirt 2.
Can you guys recommened some others please? -
COD series
Far Cry 2
BFBC2 -
The Witcher
Fear, Fear 2
Team Fortress 2
Portal
Half life 2
supreme commander 1,2
command and conquer tiberium wars
Just Cause 2 looks cool (haven't played it yet though) -
Left 4 Dead 2 and other games made by Valve.
Fallout 3
Battlefield Bad Company Two -
Crysis - I wouldn't get it unless you love singleplayer games
MW2/MW1 - Singleplayer gamers don't get this, for Multiplayer gamers it's a must
TF2 - Really freaking fun multiplayer, doesn't matter if you suck
Portal - free I think, really addicting singleplayer puzzle kinda game -
If your new to the PC gaming world, i recommend getting Steam with " Valve Complete Pack".
Its crazy savings compared to what you get.
And Portal was offered free until May 24 so its too late to grab that.
Just Cause 2 was pretty boring story wise for me, but its so awesome to just fly around wreaking havoc everywhere. -

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clea Sky
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat
Cryostasis
Necrovision (and add-on prequel on Steam)
Just Cause 2 (Amazing in DX10)
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Haven't played it till you play the PC version) -
I recommend getting a good FPS and use the mouse/wasd keys , instead of a gamepad and you will soon come to realize the superior controls of a pc vs. a consoles gamepad !
-
I think I should of just made it like the Can my Notebook Run It thread, and just made a topic about rules and how to post, instead of actually recommending games. That way people could post like this and discuss it on their own, rather than looking at a list (hardly anyone replies to peoples questions on there now, but they will if it's on a new thread). -
Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age Origins, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Torchlight, Diablo 1 and 2(expansion Lord of Destruction), Titan's Quest Immoral Throne. That is if you like RPG's.
-
-
The witcher is probably one of the best games out there, especially if you are a big fan of fable. It's the same kind of gameplay, (or you can play it diablo style). I personally recommend Dirt 2; EXCELLENT racing game!
-
Thanks for the great suggestions
BT60 -
And for cheap easy fun that doesn't involve a last call bar hopper, look at "Rayman Raving Rabbids." Easy to play, wicked fun. Although I play my sega emulator more than anything else.

The above image is from the original title: Baldur's Gate. The picture you have up for the series is actually from a completely different and unrelated game released by Black Isle studios in 1999 called Planescape Torment. A game of similar style designed of the BG Engine, it is a top class RPG that immerses the player in an obscure world putting you in control of the main character whose persona is both strange and intriguing. A great game in it self however not part of the Baldur's Gate series.
And since we're on the discussion of Black Isle studios, you should definitely put Fallout/Fallout2 on that list (both of which I enjoyed more then the most recent addition to the Fallout series). IMO Fallout 2 will go down as one of the best open-ended RPG's of it's time...if not of all time. The open ended nature, its amazing character development/progression/voice acting, the spectacular story and post apocalyptic setting, the countless and ingeniously devised dialogue choices, an amazing system of character/skill/class customization and the immeasurable slew of other phenomenal game aspects make this title a top choice for any RPG fan out there.

Thanks for the info Maverick.
As you can see it was a large list to create, so I didn't get everything 100% perfect, so Thanks for pointing that out. -
Fallout 2 = the best RPG ever.
Fallout 3 = the most hyped RPG ever.
While we're at it, check out FOnline, a MMORPG based on Fallout 2. It's in beta stage so some quirks still have to be fixed, but it's very enjoyable. WARNING: like on the MMO wasteland is HARD! You will be shot on sight unless you are on a guarded city. You've been warned. -
Anyone have any experience with MMO's? I've been playing WoW for the past 3 1-2 years, but its just becoming too easy overall for me. For me, it feels like it takes no effort to go anywhere in the game, and I'm getting fed up with the game becoming so easy.
Any chance anyone could recommend a decent mmo that isn't as easy as WoW, has good pve and pvp, is fun, takes time to accomplish things, and also feels like there is a sense of community? -
- easy to reach level cap (takes about 1 to 3 days depending on where you start), which means grinding is only useful to buy fancy looking items that don't give you any advantage in PvE or PvP
- the whole game (3 campaigns + 1 expansion) will keep you busy forever (I've been playing for about a year total not counting several interruptions, and I've not finished the side quests yet)
- alliance battles and guild battles are intense and very fun
- skill matters way WAY more than items, and competitive PvP gear is very easy to obtain
The only drawback I think is the sense of community. Very few guilds (= clans) actually have a sense of community beyond the "hey, anyone up for a guild battle?" "sure, why not?" etc. Luckily I'm in a guild where people actually help with PvE unless they are busy elsewhere. -
I see. How long is it before Guild Wars 2 comes out? Would it be better to wait for 2, or pick up the first one now?
-
-
Given that you can get the whole package for €25 or so, I think it's good value. The whole package is huge, as I said, and GW2 won't be out for at least 1 year so you still have plenty of time to enjoy the MMO part before everyone leaves to play the newest shiniest game.
-
Guild Wars isn't really harder than WoW. I've played for years now and while some of the PvE content was really challenging, it was even MORE challenging to find a group!
PvP is a blast though...I play it just for that. A few alliance battles and 4v4s are fast, fun, and action packed. But nothing is really "hard" so if that's the only thing you're looking for then you're better off just saving your money. -
Of course that's the opinion of a casual gamer, I gather that hardcore gamers find all games easy -
Its more that they take no time / effort to obtain things that make them easy. -
As to MMOs, there are alot out now.
Fallout, as mentioned.
Aion is popular apparently, I think it's a Korean title. Aion's graphics are pretty nice - there are alot of vids on youtube.
Darkfall is being slowly revamped to tone down the grind before you are pvp-viable - need great ping though, which I do not have.
Age of Conan just released an expansion, which is having it's problems. I'm currently playing this and enjoying it. The older content is smooth sailing (crash/bug-wise I mean). There seem to be plenty of people, the low-lvl areas on Cimmeria-pvp server seem quite well-populated. Unlimited trial in the starter areas (up to lvl 20 content and plenty of lowbie pvp if you like).
Everquest and EQ2 both recently released expansions again. EQ1 is planning on opening a new server (soon they say, but you never know). No word yet on what type of server rules (progression, pvp, whatever).
There are also some smaller titles that have come out without fanfare and that I know little if anything about.
DDOnline is free-to-play, with subscription and extra content available for purchase if you want. Highly enjoyable, IMO.
Lord of the Rings is going free-to-play as well, soon if it hasn't already, likely on the same model as DDO, since they are run both by Turbine.
That's about all I've got, atm. Just about every MMO that's been out for more than a few months has a trial offer. Check em out! -
I've looked into aion and it looks amazing. A lot of people have said that theres very little to do a the level cap though. My friend played it and ended up quitting because of this. -
