I read this review The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review - Gamersbomb. They say that is a good game.. Anyone here played this game? It's the game worth playing?
-
Really wanna try out this "Red Orchestra" series. I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Finished Dead Space 1 and LOVED it, but worried that Dead Space 2 won't deliver on the storyline (completely leaving aside the upcoming third game). My roommates asked why I even played the first one because "it doesn't have online multiplayer" -____- I used to not be one to call video games art, but some of these story-driven games I've played in recent years have really turned me around. Dead Space, Half-Life 1/2 (2's impacted me a bit more), Fallout 3. Video games: Books that you can play!
Almost done with Half-Life 2 and I'm not even sure how to describe it. The story is sometimes a little hard to keep track of, but everything is fantastic (and the graphics, especially for Alyx Vance, are fooking spectacular). I'm beyond stoked for Episodes 1 and 2. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
If I'll get some passes for RO2 (they get dropped into inventory, so far two times) I'll make sure to send it your way. -
Great game if you're into open world rpg's. I have about 70 hours put into it.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 -
Yes, great game, just know that if you like it, you can sink a lot of hours into it.
-
game of the year for 2011. it was a mass lie up as well.
other than that, its simply quite an amazing game. -
Thank you all for your answers. I will try this game
-
Your profile picture... My floormate introduced me to "The I.T. Crowd" last year and I need to go back and watch more. He had a pretty darn funny role in "The Watch."
I'm not familiar with Steam (on occasion, I'll find cheap games and contemplate buying one), but I believe doing so is essentially a three day (or so) pass to play the game? Either way, thank you! Awesome sig by the way \m/ -
I'd only say Skyrim was a great game if you don't like a plot, story and love mages/archers. I personally think the melee combat in Skyrim is so bad, it should just be removed. Oh and no story. So I guess it's really hardcore RPG, you pretty much do your own thing.
-
Skyrim didn't seem all that much in terms of combat, I agree. And wait... There's a story in there? I only ever watched my friends play (I much prefer Fallout), but my personal favorite was the slow motion kills where a sword, for example, would enter an enemy. The geometry looked terrible and extremely rudimentary every time. Good to great terrain graphics and how some characters looked, but other than that... Yea...

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
When you buy a game on Steam, you have access to that game as long as the Steam service remains in existence. In other words, its solid. They should have a good weeklong sale coming up here at the end of November if you're interested in getting started buying games on Steam for crazy discounts. During these sales, pretty much everything in their catalog gets deeply discounted for at least a day, so it's a solid way to build a game library on a budget. -
Can anyone mention me a good shooter that came out around 2004 so ill be able to play it with old notebook with its 8600m gt!
Far Cry is my fav shooter ever and Crysis too heavy for my GPU. -
Crysis too heavy? I finished it with a Radeon 3450, LOL.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I had a weaker GPU when I picked up F.E.A.R. and was amply rewarded. There's the Half Like 2 series as well.
-
If you liked Far Cry, Far Cry 2 is playable (barelly) on the Mobility 3450, should run OK at low settings on the 8600M GT. As for Crysis, have you played the demo?
-
ARMA games!!! Military simulator, flying/driving/shooting etc, that is well supported and loved by a worldwide fanbase. I play ARMA 2 since 2009 and before that ARMA 1 for years on end. It has a steep learning curve but that are simulators for you, if they weren't, it would be crowded with Ritalin-popping Call of Duty Rambo kids, AKA not a lot of teamwork
A bit buggy engine for todays standard but the ARMA 3 engine, which comes out pretty darn soon will be pretty kick ! Great time to pick up ARMA 2 for free via steam or just buy the full game (unlocks high ress textures) -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I feel like I've heard that ARMA 2's pretty hard on lower-end systems. You sure the poster could play it on an 8600? -
Anything like LCPDFR?
-
Arma is taxing yes but more on the cpu then anything else. Plus one can always play lower setings and try the free version. Just read the tweak guides online, i am sure there is a setting right for that card!
-
I had a look and couldn't find any free ARMA2. All I noticed is a "free demo" of sorts. Is this the full game with low-res textures?
-
Arma 2 free - Arma 2 Official Website
Its actually a full multiplayer. I dont think it has the single player mode... But the game is no fun sp anyway
Should be on their site, just click around a bit and you should find it. -
I'll check it out tonight. Thanks!
-
Thnx Fat Dragon for the +Rep! Did you try Arma yet?
-
Nah. Maybe this weekend. I have a lot of work to do, so the games I play during the week have to be things that I can hop in for 10-20 minutes then hop out.
BTW, a great one is Frontline Tactics. It's free to play with micropayments, but you can enjoy the game without spending a dime. Very simple mechanics, decent graphics, good AI, and rather hard. -
What are some good ARPG within last 3-4 years? Open or close does not really matter
similar to
Amalur
Skyrim
Darksiders
FC3
Looking for less brain activity games, tried witcher 2 a bit but it is almost like a Strategy RPG xD. -
If you can get access, try Path of Exile. That's a true Action RPG. It's truly free2play (i.e. paying only gives cosmetic advantages).
-
For some reason I downloaded (dear God, the waiting) Planetside 2. Don't know how l heard about it (most likely a forum somewhere, including this one) and I don't know what made me do it, but I learned it was free-to-play so, at the least, it couldn't hurt to try.
So much stuff O_O Recommended if your CPU can handle this bad boy even on low settings. Someone told me that their CPU wasn't fully utilized (he has a 6-core) so I have no idea what you can run it with to get High/Ultra settings with reasonable frames per second. Apparently there will be a big patch in late January that deals specifically with the game's optimization so I'll definitely be playing all of January.
Also, Dark Souls vs. Demon('s) Souls: Anyone play either of these? Someone told me to try Demon's Souls, I believe. Apparently it's ridiculously hard and you die a lot, lol. -

Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Bioshock 2
Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 2
Walking Dead
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age 2
Dishonored, RAGE (these are not RPGs, but fun action games with some RPG elements)
Also, kind of older game, but I really liked Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines -
I'll bring up the pink elephant... MMO - EVE Online. Been playing for years, phenomenal game. Steep learning curve, but if you get into a good player run corp, you can find your playstyle and settle in and get real good real fast. Don't be fooled, I am convinced it's a math teacher's wet dream, a gigantic math simulator with shiny internet spaceships - never fear though, you don't need much more than basic arithmetic to blow up other internet spaceships. I have been known to play for hours and never undock though, there is just so incredibly much to do.
If anyone is interested, PM me and I can get you more info and set up at least in a general direction in the game. Standard 14 day trial is free straight from EVE, but I (and any other subscriber) have buddy invites that get you 21 days - and if you sign up from those, we get nice bonuses that some of us are willing to share
-
All I remember hearing about that game is the steep learning curve, lol. How old is it now?
Also, if I hadn't just bought Spec Ops: The Line, if I wasn't about to buy the Portal Bundle (because that sounds like some serious math/physics/puzzle fun), and if I hadn't downloaded Planetside 2 already, I would TOTALLY TAKE YOU UP ON THAT OFFER! God, I've always wanted to try that game. It sounds very CPU intensive, though. My AMD tri-core has enough trouble with PS2 as it is. Aaaaaaaand then there's the little issue about trying to reduce how much I play video games as of late. I lack self-restraint; nothing is working

MickyD1234 Notebook Prophet
Awesome games if you like that stuff, and the funniest story line/dialogue I have heard in a long time! Even better in 3D
-
Can anyone recommend any games like Freelancer? I've been looking for something with a similar space exploration-type feel
-
I'm going to buy the Bundle (1+2) for PC first and then, if it's worth it, I'll buy Portal 2 for the Xbox so I can play with my dad (loves physics just as much, but isn't a gamer, lol) and a friend. It will also serve as my introduction to playing video games with friends who aren't in the room with me xD

Cool! I started gaming back in the 8 bit days and these are kinda the ultimate extension of the platform game. Both are the ONLY linear games I have replayed 3 times now, mostly to listen to the dialogue and make sure I didn't miss any. Lots of true LOL moments.
I don't do on-line so I have no idea what (if any) it offers in that department, but I did DL some user made levels and they were pretty cool as well
Have fun! -
+1. I enjoyed that game very much. In Mass Effect you have plenty to explore and side missions to play, but you don't pilot the spaceship.
-
Try X3 and Evochron Mercenary. They both have a steeper learning curve than Freelancer but they may scratch the exploration itch. They don't quite have the pick up and go, story, and atmosphere that freelancer had, but they are good games. X3 is a tad more polished, but EM has some cool features. Maybe read some reviews and browse the Steam forums for both games. They might be discounted on stream right now as well.

Tried Planetside 2 and decided it's too much of a time sinkhole. I love single player games with great stories, but the occasional multiplayer always helps in terms of variety. I haven't played BF3 in a month or two because PS2 has pretty much taken over.
Upsides to PS2:
- Seems like quite the team-oriented game. Sadly, a mic is preferred.
- Fooking HUGE maps
- It's free
Downsides:
- Gigantic time sinkhole
- Takes forever to unlock stuff if you don't wanna pay anything (even putting $60 into 'Station Cash' doesn't sound like it would get me much)
- Can go as low as 18fps in large battles or just outside of them
- Sniping seems highly unpredictable (I'm with the Vanu Sovereignty)
- Terrible flying controls that would take weeks of solid playing just to get accustomed to where you're decent at flying
It's definitely worth a shot if a) you're patient enough to wait because the download time is insane and b) your computer (mainly the CPU) can handle it.
At least now I have time to finish the Half Life series (Episodes 1+2), play Portal 1+2, play Dead Space 2, try the Mass Effect series out, and purchase Aliens: Colonial Marines! God, I have no life...

What do you guys play on your ipad?
I want online strategy/rpg with not so dumbed down graphics.
Might be turn based (aka homm) or might be civilization-like, might be open world sand box with passive progression (aka eve).
Like you log for a while do something and log out and than you can challenge others with your cool progressing character or do something in a group.
What i am lacking in civilization, baldurs gate and kings bounty (homm) is massive online element.
No such games exist, right? Is something close? -

I don't have an iPad, but i noticed the last update for Civ 5 added something new to the start menu. There is a new "Windows 8" touch UI mode. -
I just ordered my 1st gaming laptop and I wanna get some games before it arrives. I want to get into gaming but dont know much games except for the popular ones. I don't really care about the genre I'm open for any game whether it be an MMORPG or an offline game.
Thanks! -
What laptop and specs and what kinds of games do you like?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Civilization 5 is a great game that came out back in 2010 and a lot of people are still playing. Tremendous value and it runs on most laptops (better if you have quad core CPU).
-
If you live in the US, check out Amazon. It's having some nice offers right now: the THQ Mega Pack for $25 is a great value if you don't own any of the games. And if you like strategy games, the 2K Strategy Super Pack is great (it includes Civ 5 complete, Civ 4, and the Stronghold Collection).
Remember: unless you really want to play a game right now, wait for a sale. There are lots of sales, all over the place. -
Skyrim is a good game
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
I would recommend you do this. A lot of great games in there. It would satisfy you gaming needs until some bigger sale comes along for you to stack up on games  -
