Demon's Souls is awesome.
'course the story is left for you to infer more often then not, but hell. it's a very atmospheric game.

Knights of The Old Republic
Knights of The Old Republic 2 (despite it's flaws)
The Witcher (yes it is great)
Morrowwind
Oblivion
Fallout 3 (when it doesn't crash)
Gothic 3 (having graphics issues though)
FPS/RPG Maybe? Then you need:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat -
Well to be quite frank, unless you're going to be doing pro gaming with sponsors and tournaments and all, a cheap mouse pad + laser mouse should do you well. I'm a casual-ish pc gamer and I actually don't even use a mousepad. Most modern laser mice track well enough on hard surfaces like wood or leather that they don't really need a mousepad.
I wouldn't recommend playing keyboard + mouse on a couch though; you should probably get a 360 controller or something for that (here is a guide on how to use your ps3 controller on your pc: http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-playstation-3-controller-64-bit-windows-7-vista/).
EDIT: Also, if nobody has recommended it already, Age of Empires 3 is a fun strategy game. -

It's only at the top of the forum. -

Well digital download saves the expense of having the package made then delivered so that helps shave down the costs. As for games that have been around for a while, the development costs have been covered so any money made by selling is profit, minus the staff's salaries etc. involved with digital distribution of course.
I will definitely take a look at sins of a solar empire, seems like a cross over between homeworld and galactic civ from what i saw of it on the net.
Dawn of War II is awesome, i agree. -
Both KOTORs, book it.

Fallout 2. Seriously. My favorite PC RPG evar.
-
a thing i hate about PC games are that most of em have no understandable story and no cutscenes. Am looking for PC games with movies and cutscenes in it, like FFX for example. Right now am playing Fallout 3 and its a horrible game. its like playing WOW alone on a private server.
So is there any cool games out there with a good story and cutscenes in it? -
Essentially you are looking for Bioware's titles: Mass Effect 1 and 2, as well as Dragon Age: Origins.
-
Thanks, i already played mass effect 1, but il check out 2 and dragon age
-
Well, if you liked the style and amount of cutscenes, the other two are sort of similar. Another I forgot is The Witcher, the storytelling is also very good with cutscenes here and there.
And actually I am happy that I am not the only one who thinks that some cutscenes doesn't hurt the game. I think that many PC games who be regarded better if such 'extra details' would be there. -
No PC games from what I know ever had more cutscene than some console games, eg. on ps1, the king of cutscenes - xenogear, I think the hours I'm looking at cutscenes are more than the hours I am playing, nevertheless a great game.
-
I thought mgs3 on consoles was the king of cut scenes. That game is like a movie.
-
Agreed! Dated graphics but it's as good as an RPG gets. And the brilliant humour is a plus. I still remember seeing one really guy threatening me that he'll dispatch "a whole batallion to my location" and having the option to reply "oh no, I just wet my undies".
-
And that's for PS2...
-
You'd think, but somehow Hideo one-upped himself with MGS4. If you don't skip any, it takes almost half an hour from putting the disc in the drive to actually taking control of Snake.
Sadly, I think only 1 and 2 are available for PC, but the upcoming Rising is slated to be available on the PC as well, and if the trend continues, it should actually manage to be 102% cutscenes.
-
Ha, I feel like a spammer adding on an "Agreed!" to that. That game is definitely at the top of my list of all-time favorite games. It's one of the few that I've actually gone back and beaten multiple times. Heck, I could still probably tell you how to complete most of the quests in that thing. Highly recommended for any kind of old-school kick.
-
I probably can also write a half-decent walkthrough out of memory, that game is epic.
Are you aware of FOnline 2238, a MMORPG based on the Fallout 2 engine? It's completely free (you can donate but it gives zero benefits in-game), but it's still in beta so occasional server crashes happen (once every several weeks in my knowledge). You have to have a copy of Fallout 2 to play it.
If you decide to try it, beware that EVERYONE is out to kill you and rob you, in true post-nuclear-war wasteland spirit!
Quote from the developers:
Although there is no save function, you can pitch a tent in the middle of the desert, accessible only by you, and you can store stuff there. On one hand, a modded Desert Eagle is of no use stored in the tent. But if you take it with you, someone might have a better gun and steal it from you... -

As someone else suggested, KOTOR 1 and 2. I like the first one a lot more (story-wise). -
Hi, I'm a great fan of RTS games.
I'm looking to play RTS games, but my favourites, command and conquer generals and galactic battlegrounds both lag like crazy rendering them unplayable.
Anybody got other suggestions?
I already have:
supcom 1 & 2
universe at war
world in conflict
company of heroes
starcraft I & II
All other C & Cs
demigod
All total wars
universe at war -
Warzone 2100: A Real-Time Strategy game
Warzone 2100, all other RTS games are just kids games in comparison.
As for generals try setting your core affinity to 1 core instead of 2, may help. -
The Age of Empires series is something I would try. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion is probably the best RTS I have ever played... been playing it for 10 years and still not old.

I'm quite enjoying Supreme Commander 2. its good fun!
-
Dawn of War and Dawn of War II are both good RTS games, though quite different from one another.
-
ive heard sins of a solar empire is a really great game
-
Like an RTS set in space?
Look no further than Sins of a Solar Empire.
Oops! I see Mrbee beat me to it. +1 then for SoaSE.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
another vote for Sins, freaking amazing!
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Dawn if War 1 is excellent. Dawn of War 2 is more an Action/RPG than RTS.
Homeworld (best RTS ever) -
Yet another vote for Sins. They also just released a trinity pack with the original game and both expansions (well, mini-expansions that add content directly to the original) for $40.
I'd also direct you over to the official site's modding forums for plenty of mods, some of which completely remake the game with new factions (the Empire from Star Wars, Babylon 5 ships are a WIP, a new Atlantian race...). -
Recommend me a Shooter!
Hello, I needs me some FPS.
I have, and adore, BFBC2, and deeply enjoy the squad based action and visceralness of the game, but I don't want to over play it. I would really like to get another shooter, online multiplayer is the key element here, that has an active community. New-ish preferably, I like eye-candy. Thanks!
EDIT; I'm considering TF2 as the strongest contender. I would REALLY like Halo 3 on the PC... Damn microbungie and their lateness! Any thing around similiar to the Halo series? -
America's Army 3, perhaps. It is free and I really love its approach of trying to make tactics more important than run-and-gun reflexes. You DO need to use your brains to succeed. I haven't seen any other online FPS where you need teamwork and think-before-you-act as much as AA3. I also love the fact that you DON'T get a message saying "you just killed AverageJoe" -- you need to confirm your kills.
The disadvantages are that it's still being ironed out, so some minor bugs remain, and there's not much content out yet -- five maps, each with several game modes (the maps are very varied though), only two guns, M4 and M16 (with the possibility of using the M16 DMR which is sort of a sniper rifle), plus grenades and grenade launchers. -
4 threads in the past 2 days.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...game-ask-about-game-recommendations-here.html -
beacuse this thread is a jumbled mess. sorry but it is. sorry i didnt post in it to begin with but i didnt feel like sifting through all the posts. personally i dont feel like its any worse than all the " come play XXXXX game with me tonight" weres the random "come play with me" thread?
to those who responded to me thanks for all the recommendations! -
It is what it is. I made the list at the beginning to give at least an idea on what kind of games there are. It's not my job to put every single game on the list, just so no one has to post.
If you don't see a game you like, then you ask a question. It goes the same with the "Can my Notebook Run It" thread. I have seen tons of posts with the same questions, and sometimes about the same exact laptop.
Instead I could of just said "Ok, here is the thread. Ask questions here. Use it." and left it at that with no recommendations from myself at all.
I'm not saying you have to sift through all of the post's to find a similar question asked, all I am saying is that you should ask the question, but do it here. That's what it's here for, to minimize all of the unnecessary post's that ask the same questions over and over again.
Your welcome to do a better job if you think you can. -
Crysis or Far Cry 2 or Just Cause 2?
Which of these to get first? -
Tough decision since Crysis 2 is coming out, Far Cry 2 wasn't very good, and Just Cause 2 was an ok game.
If you plan on getting Crysis 2, then I would go for Crysis.
If not, get Just Cause 2.
Are these your only choices? There's so many better games than these. -
I went ahead and bought Just Cause 2, Crysis and Crysis Warhead from amazon. I'm going to get Crysis 2 as long as the minimum requirements aren't too high.
Can you recommend any good games? What would you say is better than Crysis and Just Cause 2? -
I'd highly recommend TF2 for a multiplayer-only shooter. The community is enormous and you'd be hard-pressed to find another shooter that's just flat out fun to play for hours on end. The game can be as serious or as laid back as you want to make it; and the servers reflect that. Heh, I've been on servers where all hostilities were put aside and we all met in the middle of the map for a fight-club-esque-melee-weapons-only-one-on-one-fight (think I have enough hyphens there?). It's a very well-polished game.
/fanboy -
There are tons of them. Have a look on the first page, under Action/FPS (it will be the first list of games).
-
I saw the recommendations in response to this post but I was also wondering if anyone could recommend any decent RTS games that have sort of dragons, wizards etc in them.
I have no idea why but for some reason just now I'd rather play something more fantasy than sci-fi.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
edit: oh, forgot to say, I'm looking to play primarily on my laptop, in case that limits the recommendations at all. -
jenesuispasbavard Notebook Evangelist
In that case, the Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth games are excellent. With that G105M in your laptop, you can't really expect to play many newer games I'm afraid. -
I know it's not the most powerful laptop but it handles the likes of Red Alert 3 with aplomb, so it's not entirely useless
Are the LOTR games really that good or is it just that no-one's bothered releasing a halfway-decent fantasy RTS game since? -
Try Kohan:Immortal Sovereigns. Esp if you want an RTS with fantasy elements on an older laptop. It's an older game, after all. Had an innovative resource paradigm for it'd time. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Ought to be able to find it for cheap somewhere. Also, there was a sequel or expansion which I never tried.
-
Hey, hey, enough with the 'older laptop' talk.
Like I said before, it handles RA3 just fine, so I think it can cope with something a little more recent than a game from 2001... -
You should try Battleforge and the Spellforce series.
Battleforge: EA BattleForge
Spellforce series: SpellForce 2 - JoWooD Productions
Hope these suit your interest!
-
Well, Steam decided for me. 20$ for crysis was too tempting. Hope crysis wars is fun XDDDDD

Hi all, looking for a new game to play now I've finished Just Cause 2. Happy with either a shooter or RPG, although after Just Cause I'm more in a mood for a similar style sandbox game, or something more open like Oblivion (which I've already played). I will be playing on my laptop in sig, so would like to be running at full resolution ideally, and would like some decent graphics to make the game more enjoyable. Cheers!
-
Kindly recommend a Car Racing game...I am through with NFS Shift and DiRT 2
Just started playing GRID, but its not in that class
-
