Hey guys, what are some fun games that can be played on the power saving setting of my laptop? Games that don't need a lot of power to be played. I'm flying on sunday so I need something to play, but be able to play for a long time. Pretty much any game is good

The enhanced edition is a free update, so it doesn't matter which version you get, but definitely play the enhanced edition, whatever version you buy.

Should be delivered today sometime, and I am want some suggestions for some cool new games that will run on my new machine. The last PC game I bought was WoW and Doom3. I like pretty much all kinds of games except sports games, and I really would like something with some sweet graphics that doesn't require the disk in the drive during gameplay. It is a Sony VAIO F12, and here are the specs:

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
    Intel Core i7 740QM
    NVIDIA GT330M
    1920 x 1080 16.4" screen
    500GB 7200rpm HD
    6GB DDR3 1333MHz
    blu-ray burner 6x BD-R, 4x BD-R DL, 2x BD-RE DL

If you want them to be played without discs, get steam games :)

Here is a link to a lot of specs for your GPU, including games and the performance. You can probably get most of the games on steam or Direct 2 Drive to alleviate the disc-in-drive requirement.

    Notebookcheck: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

    Crysis & Crysis Warhead
    CoD 4
    The Witcher
    Dragon Age Origins
    Mass Effect 1 & 2
    FEAR

    Far Cry
    Dead Space
    Napolean Total War
    Trine
    Torchlight
    Red Alert 3

Highly recommend "Psychonauts" for PC if you have never played it on PS2/Xbox 1. You can find it on Steam.

Speaking of Steam, that should be one of the first applications you install. It's awesome.

Basically, the biggest digital distribution platform for PC gaming.

    Welcome to Steam

You create an account and download the Steam client, and purchase your games through that account. Those games are permanently tied to your account. When you buy a game via Steam, you can instantly download it to your computer, and for the vast majority of games, you can do this as many times on as many computers as you like.

Steam also has a community system, so you can add other users as friends, and chat or join each other's games.

    Steam

Basically a service where you can buy and download the games and play them without worry of discs. There's offline mode if you don't have constant internet connection and they have neat sales and game packages too :)

Edit: Breadcrab beat me to it >:0

Don't forget that if you also own a Mac, there are games on Steam that are cross platform compatible. And in most cases (as far as I know) if you buy it on one platform, you can use both platform versions as you please. No need to re-buy that game. :D

Oh and let's not forget the bloody amazing Steam sales! O.O

Is there a game that allows you to build an empire, a city or a nation from the ground up? I would like to be able to start from the prehistoric age and then progress to the future age. Along the way, I would like to manage the economy, military, diplomacy, etc... I'm okay with any genre, RTS/City Building/Sim/Turn based.

    Games I've already played:

    Age of Empires series
    Empire Earth series
    Sim City series
    Anno 1404
Civ 4 (can't get into this game)

    EDIT:
Also, Rise of Nations, Total War series (can't get into the series either). Thanks!

Future Wars available on Steam for $8...the PC version of Advance Wars...I've never played it, and didn't find any reputable reviews...but even if it's horrible, you're only out $8 and a little disappointment...

Hey all, Im looking for a game that will keep me busy over the summer. I'm downloading Allods Online right now. I've had an MMORPG itch for a while, and while i was a big fan of WAR when I played, I can't afford a subscription plan. It doesn't have to be an MMORPG though, in fact, the more you can recommend me the better. Just please consider the following critera:

    1) The cheaper the better, I really don't want to spend more than $20, as I just bought the first parts for a desktop, and most if not all of my funds will go towards that.

    2) Low system requirements would be cool. Games like LoL that run well and look awesome are appreciated.

3)Games that are gentle in impact on the battery life would be rad. It'd be cool if I could play them while being liberated from the wall.

System Specs if they'll help: Dell Latitude E6500 Core 2 P8400 @ 2.26 GHz, 2 gigs of ram, and an Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M.

    Thanks everyone!!!

    I have an E6400. I can recommend:

Alliance of Valliant Arms, a free MMOFPS. If you want to play in the ladder, clan matches, etc, you will be underpowered unless you buy gear with real money, but for leisurely play the in-game money is enough.

Diablo 2, which doesn't need introduction. Recently a new patch came out (10 years after the game was launched!) and lots of players came back to the servers.

Have you tried Torchlight? It can run on a netbook, in the flavour of Diablo, and is around.. $10 I think?

You could try BattleForge by EA, its a free to play multiplayer RTS.

Thanks a lot for the post. I actually saw that a couple of days ago, on Steam Store main page. As soon as I read that it compared itself to Advanced Wars, I immediately bought it. I had my other half download it at home, and she is sending it out to me on a hard drive, along with a bunch of other Steam games. I should have plenty on the way, for sure, after the recent sale!

    Thanks for the thread!

I like Half Life 2 listed in the thread. The game image is so amazing and beautiful, it reminds me of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, a similar first-person shooting PC game that I played several years ago.

My PC features a Intel dual-core E7400 processor, 2GB DDR2 and GeForce 9600 GSO graphic card. I hope it can perform Half Life 2 smoothly.

I'm looking for a RPG or even a FPS with really good story line, that doesn't require a monthly fee, and also doesn't require internet connectivity. It would also be nice if would install right to the HD so I don't need to occupy the optical drive when playing. The last games I played regularly were WoW (Pre-Lich King expansion), and MW2 on the PS3. I'll be running this game on my new Sony F12 (i7 740QM, GT330M, 6GB 1333MHz DDR3, and 1920x1080 display)

    I don't see why not; I ran HL2 on a single-core with GeForce 6200 :)

    Have you considered Borderlands?
Its a plot-driven FPS, has elements of an RPG (character upgrades, equipment, merchants, storyline).
Tis a very good game, and has multiplayer

recommend me a game that is an action-adventure, role-playing, platform or puzzle and is not one of the following:

    Mini Ninjas
    Prince of Persia
    Spore
    World of Goo
    X Blades
    Devil May Cry 4
    Dragon Age Origins
    Oblivion

please do not recommend me a first person shooter

recommend me a game like GunBound too (with the online feature as well)

^Give Morrowind a try. It's the predecessor to Oblivion, and pretty fun. It's older and accordingly less fancy, but the gameplay is no less solid. There are some notable differences from Oblivion, but by and large if you liked Oblivion you'll probably enjoy Morrowind.

Also, for those looking for a free MMO, sign up for the Lord of the Rings Online beta; it's going free-to-play soon, and it's a good game.

Did you give the Mass Effect series a try? They are amazing games.

Also try out Half Life 1 and 2 (it's first person shooter, but it has puzzles that you need to solve and it's quite fun, even when playing alone).

please don't recommend me any more shooting games especially those from a first person's view

if it has sword fighting and gun fighting like Devil May Cry for example then that's fine but not games that focus on shooting and bombing from a first person view

yeah thanks, I've played the first

    any other more helpful recommendations?

The only one I mentioned that was first person is Half Life 2, and I only said that because you asked for action/puzzle, and Half Life 2 is one of the best.

ME 1 and 2 are shooting games, yes, but they are more RPG than anything. Look up some videos on it.

    Other games to try:

    Ghostbusters
    Batman: Arkham Asylum
    Jedi Knight II
    X-Men Origins: Wolverine
    Diablo II

These are all on the front page by the way.

I don't suppose you've ever tried Mount & Blade? I'd classify it as a kind of Action RPG, but with somewhat more realistic combat than is usually implied by the genre. It's on Steam right now for $14.99 (or rather, the standalone expansion which builds on the original a great deal), if you're interested.

Then yes, get Oblivion. It's not similar to WoW at all, but for a RPG, it's really worth it.

    Hello all,

I have a VAIO Laptop, with these exact specifications:

    - Sony VAIO VGN-CR354.
    - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.10GHz (T8100).
    - 3 MB Cache Memory.
    - 2 GB DDR2 SD RAM.
    - ATI Mobility Radeon X2300.
    - Windows Vista Home Premium.

I would ask you for some help recommending me some cool games that would work fine on my notebook and my graphic card, I'd love some "Free-Roaming" games and some other game types, too.

I'm NOT looking for online gaming, all I want is games that have story / campaign mode to play and finish, any action - advanture game would work, too.

Any good game you recommend is fine by me. Thanks.

    Have you played Prototype?

Also, I recommend the Penumbra trilogy and Devil's Tuning Fork. They're unusual FPSs. (DTF's framerates won't get too high on your laptop though)

EDIT: I forgot to mention: Devil's Tuning Fork is free. :D

I did play Prototype, liked it a lot.

I saw some gameplay videos to Penumbra a couple of mintues ago when I first read your post, I like its style and I'm gonna pick one from the trilogy to get soon. Thanks a lot man, cool game and I'm sure I'll like it :)

Movin' on to The Devil's Tuning Fork, well I saw a couple of videos for that game, too, and ... it's WEIRD! And that's just sayin' .. No wonder it's free. :D

    Sorry, just kidding.

Here are some of the games that I played (and liked). If you can remember a similar game or something, please let me know:

    - Kane & Lynch.
    - The Godfather & The Godfather II.
    - Left 4 Dead 2.
    - Mafia.
    - Prototype.
    - COD 4 MW.
    - Battlefield 2.
    - Clive Barker's Jericho.
    - Condemned - Criminal Origins.
    - The Sims (most of the versions).
    - Age of Empire III.

Ha, Jericho. I'd forgotten about that game. I don't suppose you've considered the Mass Effect series? Both are excellent games. Or if you're looking for more shooter and less RPG, perhaps Bioshock? Both suggestions there aren't quite the definition of "Free-Roaming," but they certainly aren't linear. Heck, I just recommended this earlier but I'll say it again: Mount & Blade. Crazy fun game if you enjoy that sort of realistic-ish Medieval combat. Lots of riding down poor buggers with a spear/sword/whatever-you-happen-to-have and thawking them on the head. Good times all-around.
