Sucks that it costs 59.99 and I only have $50.![]()
-
Yes it will. FPS might drop at some points if there are really a lot of units on the map or because of the zerg creep, but overall it will run good at ultra high FULL HD settings.
-
are you serious? your laptop will dominate SC2.
-
Hmm, I have a Asus G73 and when I play on Ultra and 1600x900 I get around 25-30 fps with dips during large battles, and I see that my specs are almost identical besides my slightly weaker processor. Guess I have to update my drivers?
-
That's about what I've been hearing - Ultra will push the best laptops in the world to their limits when battles get busy. I expect I'll be playing on High, maybe one or two settings pushed to Ultra.
-
ATI drivers are not optimized for SC2, probably the next versions might come with huge boost, i think ATI should be a little better than what it is atm vs how Nvidia is behaving with SC2, but i wouldn't worry too much... i mean its not an FPS, so there is not a huge need for high frames...
-
Well considering the game has only been seen in beta form it would be dumb of them to start optimizing for SC2 before they see the final product.
-
Well i guess depends on each companies policies, but nvidia is already supporting AA and have better framerates, i remember there was an issue with beta that i didn't experience but there was a release that some reported as fixing some issues on beta... so idk for sure, but my guess is nvidia has already done some of their work in beta. I guess by your remark you say nvidia is dumb, but imo is good to work before games are release, there are a lot of people expecting the game... so for me is a huge plus have good drivers on release day.

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
Anyone have any idea what settings i can run the game at on my xps? On my old one with a 3670 i was able to get 25+ fps at 1920 x 1080 on medium
-
I dont doubt they havent done some work on it. But it's safer to wait till they have their hands on a RTM release then a beta that is subject to change and quite possibly negate any work done.
Frankly i had no issues playing the beta on ultra settings with my ATI 5850 tho. It more likely pretty subjective. As usually the people who have problems with this kinda stuff (IMO) are the ones who are looking for something to complain about, on both sides of the field. -
You should be able to max it with shadows off. I think the shadows settings is what really kills the fps.
-
This is good to hear~ I just hope ATI releases some drivers for this game though because I really don't want FPS drops... in an RTS like starcraft it could cost you the game
. I'm pretty sure in 1v1s I should be fine FPS-wise, but in 3v3s and 4v4s I'm toast.
The Cpu also plays a huge role in starcraft 2 because the reflections and effects are run by the cpu not the gpu. I have a i7 740QM and not an 840 or 940 so I don't know how I'll fair.
EDIT: It's funny that you mention that zerg creep will kill some FPS because I am a zerg player. I guess that's the price you have to pay for being apart of the swarm
-
Your zerglings are bound to cover up the screen that the creep won't be visible anyways
-
You have an i7-740QM and you're concerned? Go away!
-
Sorry, I'll go cry in the corner
-
I do get some stuttering issues and I'm only playing on medium
1920 x 1200 but meh I'm fine with medium graphics not too much difference anyway
I'm blaming the stuttering on slow internet though it might be hardware too and I'm not sure which one's being a bottleneck in my case. Might be my GPU
I have Q9550 CPU and 9800M GT SLI GPU
-
you'd probably be best off with the i7 620m or a dual core processor. Starcraft 2 is not optimized for multiple threads so theres no real point. Anything from the midrange i5s to the i7 620m will run sc2 great. I mean in reality if you have a decent cpu and ram you should be fine for medium and beyond for sc2. Blizzard never really tries to cut out the low end class from playing and i know i played the beta on a compaq cq60 straight outta best buy.
-
Don't worry, it will "only" drop down to around 19-20 FPS (at least for me with 720QM), which is still smooth enough. Some points I didn't even noticed without FRAPS when I played zerg. So don't worry, you are good to go with that lappy to kill all enemies of the swarm on full HD/Ultra settings, without worrying that you might loose the battle because of low fps, since you will barely notice the fps drop.
-
There is another (long) thread about this...and SC2 utilizes all 4 cores, so a Quad core CPU is better for SC2. Soon I won't even remember the last game which was better with 2 core cpu
-
Care to link?
I only found this one:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...ards/499000-starcraft-2-dual-quad-core-4.html
Concensus that I could find is that while it will use four cores, they were far from tapped out. Dual core i5 is more than sufficient. -

3 separate games not really an expansion.
Any one of the 3 games gives you full online via battlenet, but for the single player campaigns you have to buy all 3.
We can only hope the 2 next games are somehow reduced in price for that reason atleast for those that bought the first one, but I some how doubt it. -
Oh wow so its really just a ploy to make money. Im guessing each game will consist of a campaign for one race?
-
Maybe we'll find some hidden coupons in the CE edition for the next games
-
You ever play any of the Dawn of War games? Each is a stand-alone expansion, where you could play online (though your choice of army to play online might be limited) and would be given access only to the campaign of the expansion you bought, unless you bought them all.
A ploy to make more money, yes, but the results were expansions that really made a difference, not just one or two units added and a few extra maps. Each iteration of the first DoW series (not counting Soulstorm, which sucked) had a better campaign than the last, and multiplayer got more fun and interesting. In the second series, same thing: the campaign is better, more refined; the multiplayer rocks; and Chaos is f***ing awesome.
This ain't much different. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yes exactly.
Blizzard however said that while only one race per game that the campaign is as long as any other game so basically much more material per race vs cramming all 3 into one game with shorter storylines. -

Blizzard said that any one of the 3 games will give you the full access to bnet. So no handicap if you only own one game and not advantage if you own all 3.
Im sure they were have some kind of perk to owners of all 3 like different avatars and things like that but nothing that effects the actual gameplay. -
I wonder how they're planning to handle the introduction of new units? Like what what if the next game in the series introduces 2 or so new units for each faction? Is it pretty likely that Blizzard will offer a patch to make those units available across both versions? Or would they make us purchase the next game to be able to use those new units in bnet games?
-
I don't know how can it be possible, but to day i wen out shopping at my favorite game shop in Shenzhen.
Over there i can always get original games for very little money and i was very surprise they had Starcraft II in chines version ready to go for 5 euros with license
I dont speak fluent chinese so i left it there ! -
I plan on picking up the game at midnight as well, but I don't plan on waiting in line for 2 hours for it. I'd rather just roll in right on time at 12:01 am and just pick it up as I don't really expect any sort of big line for the game in my area, but I could be wrong ... maybe there are a bunch of SC fanatics just like me that I don't know of.
-
Got my launcher downloaded and credit card ready. I don't know where to pre-order from Europe so I just wait till launch time and buy the license. I'm so pumped up for this game. It's been about 6 years since I last play this game. It was my first RTS game and is still my favorite
(although I'm terrible at playing against human
)
-
Most likely purchase new game to use new units. That's how it worked for SC1 and BW units. you chose to either play SC vanilla multiplayer or brood war multiplayer and whatever new units, like dark templar etc were in BW you could only use in BW MP.
-
I took free shipping with a pre-order, so probably won't get mine until end of this week.
-
I ordered from ebgames back in May with overnight shipping. Will I be receiving the game on the 27th or will it be 28th or later? Just wondering.
-
^ My guess is 28th.. I have it through amazon release date delivery, so I should be receiving shipping notice tomorrow I'm betting.
-
I've found that gamestop has been getting better with midnight releases. I usually show up at 12:15 and the line is almost gone. Better than waiting in line for an hour beforehand.
-
I'll probably pick this up after work late on the 27th. Hopefully they aren't sold out.

Not if what they have said is true, any one of the 3 games gives you the entire online experience. There is no need to buy more than one part of the Trilogy to have every unit and ever aspect of the online battle.net
You are only getting the additional single player campaign.
Broodwar was an expansion pack, SC2 is a trilogy its totally different. -
Didnt see this mentioned anywhere and i did participate in the beta for a few months. I remember seeing an option for offline mode or w/e.
However, Im back in africa (where im at 10kb/s) and just trying to figure out if youre going to have to be online to play single player? -

Just one more day guys! Although for me it'll be a little while longer, since I first have to get a good computer... :'(
-
True, I'll probably be doing that as well because I know they won't run out of copies.
-
I don't know if it's so much a ploy. I think it's how the business works. I do hope there is reduced price, but I'm seeing this being the model with other RTS's. Like DoW II has a good campaign as well as the xpac, they MP has more races and modes, but campaign is focused on a single race to play. The expanion was only like 15hours of gameplay too.
if it's good, then I'm willing to pay for it. If it sucks then people, including me won't buy those games. Plus blizzard supports their games with patches, fixes, and listens to the community.
I see, I had not heard they would update MP for the single game including units through the trilogy releases. I understand they're all standalone games in terms of single player, but I can see MP not getting the new units unless you have a license for the games. Still like how Relic does their releases. CoH were stand alone releases weren't they? I would like to see where Blizz have mentioned the MP would be a one time purchase, constantly updated thing. -
i got my copy!
