I was wondering this as well because it seems like you have to log on to battle.net to get to everything, including the campaign.

From what I've read, for single player you need to have internet access just to activate your game. From there you can play offline - but you won't get achievements or friend support etc lol. So yeah. Even if that other guy is in Africa with 10kb/s I think you could still log on just to get achievements if it matters since SP *shouldn't* lag due to no other need for connecting.

I live in the sticks yet have access to a local Gamestop, Best Buy and 2x Wal-Mart (including a Super one). This usually means I can just go anytime, casually stroll in and usually find normal and CE editions of games.

I just broke my WoW addiction finally only to get sucked back in via SC II. Diablo II/SC till WoW took over my soul then right as I get out, in comes SC II. I'm sure right as I grow tired of SC II, Diablo III or the new Blizz MMO will hit (Here's hoping the new SW MMO breaks my Blizz addiction).

For the Dual vs. Quad debate: Starcraft 2 Beta: CPU benchmarks ? Core i5/i7 leading - Starcraft 2 Beta, Test, CPU, Processor, Benchmark, Performance - PC Games Hardware

I guess a screaming fast dual core is the best bet (along with a good GPU).

    So who's got it pre-downloaded?

I'm at 90%. It's going slow, so you guys might wanna get started if you're not gonna get the retail! Pre-download is free, you just have to pay to activate.

I'm buying it at midnight tonight, but I already pre-downloaded it even though it said it was only for digital orders. I think I will just try and enter my key online and see if they works.

Also, today (the 26th) is my 18th birthday. We are having a party at 9 then a few of my friends and I are going to go buy SC2 at midnight! Great way to celebrate my birthday!

1more hour before I go with my buddy to wait in front of GameStop. Should I take the day off of work tomorrow just to play this game on low-settings? LOL. Hope that shi* aint true about having to play singleplayer while connected to the internet. That's so stupid.

My gamestop order said shipped since this morning (07/26) but no tracking# so I think they just changed the status and did not actually ship it.

Its overnight so should not be more than a days wait. I do not need to have it today for any reason.

I'm off. Gonna shower then head out. BBL to letcha all know how it goes. Might even take pix to show ya what's actually inside. But as you know, my desktop can't handle it on anything above low. We'll see how it goes.

    Night ya'll.

I can't sleep! Almost 1am and all of my thoughts are on playing. Why! Why didn't I convince a friend to come with and pick up the copies @ midnight!

Anyone playing online yet? I want info, like if battle.net has croaked under pressure or if all is smooth sailing. I'll accept pictures, anything to keep my mind busy while I wait to pick it up early this morning.

Hmmm soda supplies are running low, time for a red bull/cherry coke run after gamestop. Still regret not getting collector's but at the time I was short on cash.

You know I was not even excited for this game really. I love the original but it was so long ago. But since I know all of my friends are getting it and kmart is giving away a 20 dollar game card with a purchase, I thought why not.

the funny thing is, somehow the wifi just happens to be out right when i got it.

now its asking for some authentication key that u have to get online.

gotta love how the govt blocks everything.

ok now this is frikin rediculous, now the wifi even blocks bnet, so i cant even install the patch after i installed the game? what the hell. i cant do anytihng it seems

ugh .. this thing is taking way too long to install... it sounds like the DVD drive isn't even moving @ 1X speed so my 250mb/s write SSD is useless *cry*

at least blizzard thought ahead and gives you a nice intro and some good music while installing.

Alright, I've played through the first few missions and I can't belive how deep of game it is. The single player menus consist of a bar at first with extra story additions. Then, the menu becomes the inside of a battleship where you can go to the armory to upgrade your units.

Now, it is time to make a Starcraft 2 friends thread!

It seems that adding SC2 to steam in order to get the game overlay causes a drastic hit to my fps. It seems to lower it by around 10-20 fps at all times.

I preordered mine from GameSpot in April and have received zero notification of it shipping or my credit card charged. I chose the free shipping which I'm fine with, but shouldn't it at least have shipped out today?

Atleast its not as bad as FPS, and despite the handicap some people still do it.

IDK, i'd argue that its tougher on an RTS over FPS, a missed or accidental doubletap could be disastrous. Much less clicking and dragging.

I remember trying to play SC1 using nothing but keyboard and the left click. You can do everything with the press of a key, and you can move around the map with directional buttons.

Click on builder robot thing (what are they called?)
    B (build)
    S (supply depot)
    Click (choose location)

    Good times
