Sentries + Colossi is what I use to stop roaches.

Literally 4 well placed forcefields can cause 20 roaches to be stuck in one place, and even burrow will not let them move.

Force fields are the best counter for roaches in the toss arsenal.

If your skilled and have the terrain they work great, but if they have a mass of roaches its hard to box them in, if you just make a wall and they are smart they will back off and you will run out of energy soon to make more.

Colusus are great on paper but when I use them seems like they get eaten alive too quickly to make up there cost and tech level.

In most cases I am better off with void rays.

There main target is groups of ground units but I would rather have a few high Templar instead. The one time I absolutely use colusus is people that have a lot of static defense. The upgraded range lets them take out canons/spikes and stuff effort free.

Sentry & High Templar make a deadly combo too :D Both units are great in the hands of a master but not so much a new person.

For me its hard to get sentry when I can have a stalker instead that can blink and do more damage, though I try to get some sentry when vs terran since they have all the ranged attackers. Its a pain to wait for energy though, wish they would spawn with full energy.

It's the easiest thing ever to box in 20 roaches. Just shift and click in a box around them.

4 Colossi + 4 sentries > 50 roaches. I'm not joking. Honestly I consider colossi to be the staple unit for PvZ, and are the best toss unit in the game.

However I have been doing this really cool fast voidray to expand build against Zerg that is working pretty well. But if the zerg player gets even a couple of hydras out, voidrays just melt. So I find colossi to be essential against Zerg, especially if they go the roach/hydra build, since it basically means gg if you reach 4 colossi.

Watched your game, you opponents just did not work too well together teamwork is key in 2v2. It seemed on the later half of the game the Terran did nothing but maybe he just had all his units dead I dunno.

Both of the have these crazy immature names :/

I got my first dose of immature kiddy gamer grammar when playing a ultimate tank defense game yesterday. Just going back and forth about perverted things and im thinking to myself "seriously??" I didnt say anything because its not like you can get them to stop it would only make it worse.

Get some more good replays, if I find one that really is exciting to me I will FRAPS it and youtube it so everybody can see and not just SC2 owners. Maybe even try my hand at commentary.

I dunno I owned like 30 muta's with just 6 voids what i do is just go directly for the home base to get my lasers fully charged, then anything that comes to defend just gets instantly melted. Its less than half a second for a muta. Even if they take you out you will do way more damage than they did. The key is just to make sure defenses are not near.

Colossus are obviously owned by air and even go down fast with tanks/marines and stuff so thats why I keep away from them most of the time. If I had High Templar the boxing in stll works for roaches but if a swarm of muta show up you can do a lot of damage still with psi storm. Drop 5 in a row and it can take out a whole swarm in an instant.

I guess you have had better luck than I have with them, when I use them most of the time they dont really do me a whole lot of good. In a 2v2 I do like to use them as ground if my partner is going air.

Here's a replay of a game I had today vs another diamond player ranked at 8 with 400ish points.

My laptop keyboard has broken numbers so I couldn't use them, but nevertheless this was a pretty epic game.

I beat 1v7 insane using protoss (most use terran)

Just walled off my base with a ton of cannons, and tech-ed up to void rays.

Let the cpu kill each other mostly and then sent out my death force of voids.

They broke in 2 or 3 times with massive hordes of roaches, but roaches cant hit air so the voids took them out eventually.

I made all 7 cpu zerg, they dont seem to get much air mostly mass roach.

I did the FFA with 7 insane AI pretty easily as terran vs. protoss on the lava map.

Just lifted off to the double base island, turtled up while the CPUs killed eachother until I had a dozen BCs, then I went out and slaughtered the one that was left.

None of them ever even scouted me on the island until I took a mainland expansion to get more gas, and I easily held off their attack with my BCs because it was at least half zealots and immortals. After that it was just mass up more and attack with my BCs and some vickings to back them up.

At first it looked like the enemy had gotten a ton of void rays somehow in the time between defending my expo and my attack, but they were mostly hallucinations and with one scan to find the real void rays they were screwed.

I had a TON of extra minerals too, which I spent on turrets, marines, and hellions. Just ended up wasting them to distract the enemy so I could get more supply for air units.

By picking all protoss for my opponents I pretty much guaranteed that they would have mostly GtG units because that's what will win them the early skirmishes against the other protoss enemies. You could still get unlucky though and end up with the strongest enemy having mass carriers and void rays, but as long as you have a few vickings and use yamato cannons wisely you can still win.

Try not to spend too much time on the island though or the enemies macro advantage will be huge if they take out the other AI players fast enough.

... As soon as I can figure out how to download the US client instead of the given SEA... Hm...

Edit: Can't seem to get the US SC2 client download link. It keeps on redirecting me to the SEA one. Mind giving me the link to it? o_O

Not exactly looking for a method to change the language but rather the download link for the US Client installer itself :p It's the link provided for us battlenet users for digital download.

And for infested terrans, there's quite a few uses for them lately. One is to prevent drops if you're quick enough by fungal growth. Also to fungal growth and weaken any MM balls. Another is to neural parasite large units to change the flow of a battle. Infested Terrans are useful if you need the slight firepower advantage in a fight and also is a quick cheap source of anti air if you're lacking hydras or mutas to deal with air units. You can also burrow move to enemy mineral line, spawn a few infested terrans and start ravaging their economy.

Infestor's can't do anything to buildings. It's the overseer which can interrupt anything that buildings do (Training units, research...)

Fungal growth is very powerful too given that it completely prevents the target from moving and does a significant amount of damage.

It's most useful in fights where you already have the advantage, where it prevents the enemy from retreating, but it can also be a strong tool to assist in retreating or just to kill weak units like marines and zerglings.

In particular it is extremely useful against viking harass, preventing the vikings from landing to kill your ground units AND from flying away to escape. A few infested terrans, a queen or two, and fungal growths own damage can kill vikings surprisingly fast.

    had a idea.

If you play zerg and burrow a unit in the enemies expansion area what happens if they try to build there?

they cant build ontop of your unit so can you block them like this until they get detector units? seems like a good idea to me, I see people use creep sometimes to do this but this could be less obvious and maybe faster/easier.

    I do this as Zerg.

Usually at either gold expos or the normal 3rd expo, I leave a zergling burrowed to get in the way.

Creep is easier because the overlords do nothing anyway and they also give a bigger range of sight.

I never did see the mind control or the artifact that slows down zerg in my list of things to build... maybe I did not look hard enough.

I did it on Hard not brutal, just mass vikings kills the flyers and also work perfectly to go rescue groups for the achievements as they are the only air unit that can land. Lots of missile towers too around the entire base.

Yeah I know about sight and making them usefull my thing is they can chase your overlord away or kill him and the creep will go away. The burrowed unit is permanent until they get a way to detect you.

That depending on the situation could be a lot harder to deal with, plus if its like 8 bainlings or something nasty when they finally can detect you just blow everything up :D (or dont burrow where the base goes, let them build it and a few probes just so you can burst out and destroy it to hurt economy more than preventing the build)

Of course you have to have units to spare to do this, and if you have enough units to spare chances are you could have used them to just attack and win the game. Maybe bainlings would work since they (i think) are cheap, but not sure how many you would need to instant kill a town center.

20, 15 if fully upgraded, but you'd want some extra in case a few don't hit.

20 banelings cost 1000 minerals and 500 gas all together, that's enough for 10 hydras or 5 mutas and 20 zerglings. No small investment.

Cracklings (zerglings with the attack speed upgrade) kill buildings fairly fast anyways, just use maybe 3-4 banelings to kill the workers and then a bunch of cracklings to take out the buildings or just be an annoyance until the enemy reinforces.

Lol cracklings. Fully upgraded zerglings swarming a base is a very fun way to destroy buildings and ground forces. If you have 40 of them it's like a wave washing through. It's hilarious

Yeah I tried to use zerg against AI to see what its all about and cracklings took out a town center in like 3 seconds flat with both speed upgrades. Thing is they are like final tier to get that upgrade so chances are you wont have it before an expansion from your opponent. Still regular zerglings can easily ravage and destroy a base if its undefended.

Or a base defended by Thors ;)

By the time that upgrade is available though you're betting a lot on your opponent not attacking you early, and the fact that they may have already gotten a good expansion.
Burrowing is great for harassing inexperienced players however :D Roach guerrila warfare ftw.....and baneling landmines are awesome for turtling out that first skimpy rush.

Lol but thing is most people tend to mass their armies before attacking and I'm sure a fast expanding zerg player can fit in the resources for burrow somewhere before a the opponent attacks/expands :)

Besides, they tend to turtle up a lot after you defended their first attack with units to spare so that's a good time window to check if he decides to expand or not

The main thing i see players do wrong is not counter attacking after you've repulsed that first attack. If youve got more then 10 units left its time to attack. I watched a replay last night of a zerg player who repulsed 3 protoss attacks and had 10+ roaches left each time. While his enemy had no warp gates and no units left and just left him to rebuild and do it again...

1v1 is all about the cheese. I got placed in plat doing the same BS 2x each - terran planetary fortress rush and 5 minute reaper rush. Only one of my 1v1 games has gone past the first rush/counter set, but on an annoying map. Plat is hell though, after placement I'm only so-so.

2v2, you have to be in sync with your teammate. I feel like the best guys in a given division are actively using voice comm for sure, or at least in constant communication. Sharing resources (esp gas) becomes a big deal when you can get one or more guys on your team to commit to an almost pure mineral or mineral heavy build (e.g. marines/zealots/lings and/or marauders/roaches/stalkers while the other guy(s) is busting out a ridiculous amount of tier 2/3 air and ground support)

No way 1v1 is all about cheese. You're just getting bad opponents and placement matches are of course really easy. I literally won my first 2 by worker rushing.

Also Plat league isn't that difficult. Most people only follow a certain build order to a point and have no clue what to do in late game. Just outmacro them and contain. I went 12 games without a loss in Plat. Even in Diamond league, most players only know what to do what 'till the midgame. Just survive longer then that and you'll find a lot of victories.

There is good reason tho, The player that turtles usually is gonna be out Macro'ed by the aggressive player. This game is not very rewarding to players who arent semi aggressive. Turtling without harassing is instant lose.

Heh just what I did, constant harrass :p That finally won me a game... Terran player was defending with mass marine with ghost army but then ran out of resources and i denied him expansion :p

Dark Templars saved the day :) Planetary fortress hurts a lot

1/1/1 build walls off with factory and rax.

No way you're going to baneling bust your way in.

Baneling bust will never kill a decent Terran player.

Then I need to play you because properly micro'd banelings work wonders on the normal wall

    Edit: YAY POST 1K

Banelings do 80 damage to buildings. Factory has 1200 health, and Barracks has 1000.

That means it'd take 13 banelings to kill the weaker rax. That's 650 minerals and 325 gas worth of banelings. The Terran player will scan and see you going nest.

Earliest you can get that many is around 5 minutes, by then the Terran player will have 2 or 3 hellions. The hellions can kill half the banelings before they even get up into the wall. Then you lose to 2 port banshee because you spent everything on lings and banelings.

So yeah, no way baneling bust will get through.
