OMG. I'm always dying on the game. I need to read tips about this game. When you guys were new, do you just go on with the main quest? I tried to do the side quest but like I said, I always die.
-
i just did the first dungeon and find it's all about kiting the mob lol you'll die much less
-
Can someone give me a tip here? I'm level 5 and I can't freaking kill a bone enemy. A freaking bone! This game is about killing dragons and I can't kill a freaking bones! I've been trying to defeat this but he just kills me with 3 slashes. I'm on the main quest.
-
What kind of character did you build? What weapons (or spells) and armor are you using, and what difficulty setting are you on?
-
Steel sword, then I have an Iron health chest, then everything else is iron. I'm using the default character and default difficulty. My main quest is already on the first dragon and I'm still level 7.

Your weapons are fine - what build are you? did you put your perk points in 1h? You should. You should always put your first couple of points in the offensive skill of choice (In your situation, 1H) -

btw idk if this has already been said but iCEnhancer is getting worked on for Skyrim

Also a couple of tips I managed to find
Some useful stuff for the Windhelm fiasco
Also if you're using FXAA Post Process Injector + the Skyrim 4GB download you may have noticed that you are having problems getting FXAA PPI to work with the new version of the 4GB patch...possible fix
I haven't confirmed any of this but I plan to tonight or tomorrow -
Tried running it, my old Dell Dimension E520 couldn't handle it.
-
I think I might have to start over again, my build js messed up.
-
The style that I am playing in is way spread out and raising pretty much everything you can do in the game. I know that will make a weaker overall character but that's my goal. A character who is too powerful and specialized would make this too game easy imo, so I am enjoying having a character that actually has to plan and be careful to get by. (Plus I have a companion with me, and I can summon which helps). Would hate to have a character that can simply waltz in everywhere and pwn everything without thought. Not much fun that way

I would, that's the fun part about Skyrim. If you don't get something right the first time, the second or third time will be much easier.
I agree 100% but I would like to add that gimping yourself too hard can actually make the game unfun (No one wants to lose to a simple Skeleton or single wolf). Which is why I completely recommend at least putting some perk points in to your damage skill of choice first before anything else. -
I just noticed that the default difficulty is set to Hardest one. Would you guys recommend this difficulty to beginners?
-
You can swap difficulty at any time. For example, at the start I worked on my smithing + enchanting a LOT (got them to 90
) so the game was really tough because my destruction magic etc was very poor in comparison, and I had to lower difficulty. Now however I have the game set on hardest, and its still pretty manageable.
If you die tooo much, decrease it... once you start finding it easy, bump it up again -

The default difficulty is set to Adept, which is the "medium" setting.
Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert, Master, in order from easiest to most challenging.
I have only played the game in Master setting, so I'm not quite as familiar with the other settings.
I would suggest starting on Adept and adjusting as needed.
On Master, the lower levels are very challenging, and I die very frequently. After reaching about level 40 or so on Master, I began dying less frequently and found that most encounters were beginning to get a little bit too easy; however, there are always going to be some areas that are very tough to beat.
I think Master would be the best setting if you enjoy the sort of gameplay where you die and reload many times to get through nearly every battle.
A friend of mine started out on Adept and then increased the difficulty as he noticed the combat becoming a little bit too easy on the higher levels.
Also, followers make a huge difference. I tried playing on Master without any companions and it was practically impossible to win most combat encounters at very low level. After I started teaming up with followers I began doing much better. -
Guys, I started a new game and there are some random crashes happening. I played four hours yesterday and this never happened. help?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
are you crashing to desktop or crashing to black screen?
-
It will hang for a few seconds then it will go to a white screen.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Wow, that is a new one for me. I've never heard of a white screen crash.
If it was crashing to black screen, it would likely be your graphics card reaching its limit and I would recommend double checking to make sure you have the latest driver, as well as reducing overclock (if you overclocked) or reducing some of the graphics settings. -
Hmmm. Doesn't sound like it's a Y-axis scaling problem, then.
You could try some of the fixes outlined here:
Skyrim Tips that Help with Mouse Lag and Physics Glitches linearskillz -
I don't overclock my graphics. The game is really running without lag, it just randomly crashes and most of the time it will say that Skyrim is not responding when I pressed ctrl alt delete. There will be times that it would crash to desktop.
This is my setup
Windows 7 64
i5 2430
Radeon 6770
What settings do you think is the best for my setup? -

Are you running the 4 GB Patch? I think it is the game reaching its RAM limit and it will crash. The 4 GB Patch will rectify that by adding in +2GB of RAM allocation to the game. -
I don't care for nexus. I don't care for websites in general that try to require you to register with them, or censor and delete content. I think they should check for viruses and malware, and that's it. Let people decide whatever they want to do with their game that they bought.
-
I'm going to try this. I just found out that the crashing happens to many people. Is Bethesda aware of this problem? I hope a patch would fix this permanently.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
They are working on it as we speak. They are going to integrate their own version of the 4 GB Patch. -
Nice to hear that. It's really ridiculous because I'm getting paranoid about the game crashing while me playing. I literally save every 5 minutes.
-
Is it true that the 4gb patch involves simply one line of code? Why didn't Bethesda implement this from the start?
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
It is Bethsoft. They never get anything right out of the box except the lore and immersion.
-
Guys, where can I find a good one hand sword and a shield?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I have 2 different versions of the 4gb patch, also know how to do it manually.
I have the game running well now 5940x1200 getting proper eyefinity took a while as that was a huge hack that HaYDeN pulled out of his hat, my performance problems were AA related.
Going from 2x AA to no AA made my frame rate double and stopped the strange lag I had waiting for textures to load.
Ready to start an epic adventure now

Good starting set would be Steel-based. Just find or buy some Steel Ingots and Smith away! Make sure to always upgrade their quality once in a while. -
So I really need to level up Smithing? Damn, I focused on archery, one hand and blocking.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Well you can find or buy a set at smithing shops but it is highly recommend that you should invest in Smithing and funnel perks in either crafting light material set or heavy material set.

Ok, I'll start leveling my Smithing.
Kinda OT but is it normal that my fan is running all the time when playing this game? And usually the laptop reaches 65 degrees. Is this normal? -

What about archers, do you build/craft bows/arrows?
I feel weak early on having no means to defend myself up close but I know it will pay off later.
Also if you make a npc po'ed at you and they are important npc so they can not die. Is there any way to get the agro to go away and them to be friendly again? I walked into the first house I found on my venture out into the game after the first area and it was a little shop and I was reading the books and accidentally hit the key for "take" when I was trying to exit the reading.
Now that npc attacked me and I killed him like 5 times and he kept comming back to life, then he killed me.
Now every time I load my game I spawn outside with him next to me agrro'ed and he kills me in 2 or 3 hits before I can get away. -
With my character I have pick pocketed npc's, even attacked them and all I needed to do to get them to stop attacking was to sheathe my weapon. Sometimes you have to redraw your weapon and re sheathe a couple of times to get the thing to work.
-
You cannot craft arrows i think but you can make bows and a high blacksmithing level also lets you upgrade weapons and armor.
-
Did you try yielding? Sheathe your weapon, or hold block and try to "use" the NPC.
If that doesn't work, disabling and enabling the NPC might work. Open console, click on NPC, type disable, type enable. -
Guys.. is the update 1.1 more stable than 1.3? If it's OK.. i need your feedback about 1.3 if you recommend me to update or wait for the next one.
-
I have updated to 1.3. The advantages are better control over your inventory and some optimizations. On the flip side, the dragons are not giving off souls after update.
-
I noticed this. Also the textures are really low res on the dragons for some reason. Damn you, Bethesda!
-
Hahahah omg, I haven't fought another dragon since I patched but this is hilarious. First they have the dragons flying backwards and now they don't give souls and have low rez textures for some reason? They are trolling us hardcore.
-
I killed a dragon and it fell to the ground and just spazzed out like it was having a seizure.
-
Wishing to get my laptop fixed asap since I really wana play this game
-
I've been getting more dragons than ever after the patch. all of them give souls too.
-
I wonder if the creation kit is going to allow networking between devices...it would be nice if someone could code up kind of a L4D(2) kind of environment for dungeon delving.
-
Moreover quest line optimizations were better in Oblivion than in Skyrim. So many quest lines are broken in this game.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
There is a mod that will allow you to craft arrows. However I usually don't see the point because there are tons of arrows littered in places you explore anyways to use.
For those pesky NPC's just reload the game or set a command like Oblivion to set them non-essential and KO'ed them. Or you can also console command disable them after you shut their AI down and then re-enable everything. That should reset it.
I am having problems of them landing to attack me in their aggression line. Like they got serious ADD or something.
Well you are pretty lucky then that your dragons are acting normal. -
Seriously, in the last two weeks I haven't been able to fight a single dragon. If I come near one, they just keep circling overhead and will never attack me. I even saw one attack a giant and I used Dragonrend on it, and it clearly worked; a red dot came up on my compass and its name and health showed up, but it ignored all my hits and just killed the giant and flew away.
-
guys is it normal that my fan is running constantly when playing this game?
