I have a sword and shield character but I also have a mixture of magic too.

So.. I'm on lvl 24 and I was thinking the game was too easy for me so I went to Skyrim Nexus to download a mod or 2... ended up downloading like 20, as expected.
Mostly graphic enhancing mods, immersion and realism mods... and the 2k textures.
Have to say I didn't believe the game could look better but boy was I wrong.
Game looks Incredible now and it still runs perfectly.

Very happy with the Nexus Mod Manager, made installing all the mods SUPER easy. -
Yeah, that one was a tough one. Just FYI, there are a couple more mages after that one. I suggest bringing lots of resistance and health potions. Might also take a lot of dodging and reloading if you die.
Don't forget to grab the TES V Acceleration Layer mod, if you haven't already. -
I have! I think it's the reason I haven't seen a fps drop even with all these texture and lighting mods that I have installed while keeping Ultra settings and 16x AF, 4x AA.
-
I got better results from using Skyboost and it does not need a loader. Some have anywhere from 2- 8 fps extra with this Vs the acceleration layer.
-
Copy "dinput8.dll" and "SkyBoost.asi" from "bin" folder to Skyrim dir/is this the only two files used? These two are just dropped into skyrim root?
Nothing mentioned about the src folder and files.
I may not have it fully installed but no frame rate boost noted.
thx -
The SRC folder is just the source code...
Read the instructions. -
But still not sure why he included the SCR folder.
The instructions are as i posted, correct?
Now that everone knows you know what scr stands for, did you see any difference? -
Im thinking of getting some mods in now, not sure which are good ones though since there are so many. Any ideas?
-
@ LaptopNut
I went ahead and downloaded FRAPS to look for any small increases so my i5/560m sees no real benefit
hopefully it will work for others +1

@ hydra
Not everyone will see improvements and if they do, it varies but the guy is always improving the mod.
I used it because I have so many (37) graphical enhancement mods that impacted on performance a lot more, I just find less stutter from using it. -
So when you start a new character, does it erase all the savefiles from your previous character? I made a new character today; I got a bit bored with my pure warrior Imperial, so I rolled a Dunmer mage...but in the "Load" menu, all I see are the handful of saves from this character, whether I try to load from in-game or the main menu.
-
I am not sure but either way, it is best to go to mydocuments\mygames\skyrim and backup all saves.
-
Yeah Skyrim once again is PC fail from Bethesda. It doesn't like most games have separate saves for different characters. It's just one huge mess.
You'd think this would have been addressed early on since it would be assumed players would reroll many times and also likely to play more than one character at a time, just to not get bored. -
When you were on your previous character, did you make sure to make manual saves? Quicksaves and Autosaves will be overwritten, but manual saves are there for life.
There's a mod for that. I think. -
Anyone know how to use the nexus mod manager to install mods??

Starting to get some Skyrim game time in.
When ever I have a couple of hours to kill and no other obligations I will be working on this series.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
What you are starting is probably going to be two non-stop week's worth of gameplay. Good luck and have fun!

Your running a 485m/quad with 37 mods and it stutters?
We should get a stutter free shrine

Same GPU/Same improvements as you. I use a ton of mods...I don't want to count its so many lol
But yeah, I'm completely amazed that 2 simple files would make that big of a difference in my gaming experience...curious - what do you have your shadows at? Also, along with that question what mod(s) are you using that has a specific effect on shadows. For a while I had mine at Medium but since I added those files I'm tempted to toss it on ultra -
I have always had my shadows set to Ultra but I don't have any specific mods that effect shadows, what ones do you have that improve shadows?
I have to be honest, I am amazed that I am able to play for hours without a single crash considering these mods have not been created using the official Skyrim creation kit. I can't wait until that has been released though.
I tried the FXAA injector mod but found everything looked to crisp and perfect so gone back to normal, it seemed to lose that skyrim feel. -
I agree completely on the FXAA injector, I tried it and find that it makes things too sharpened for my taste... definitely works against the feel of the game.
I like the 2k textures though, they improve the game A LOT imo.
Also I think he is talking about a shadow mod that I have installed as well, that helps reduce shadow flicker and give them a more realistic look.

Actually I use another mod called "shadows not blocks" but its not on the Nexus anymore :/
For this mod to be any use though you would also have to edit the skyrimprefs.ini and change some values there. -
Created a new character, and I'm enjoying sneaking around than wacking the enemies.
Dark brotherhood is the one to go when going for an assassin build right? -
IMO Dark Brotherhood is more fun when I played a character with like 20 sneak
when I started... when sneak is high, like 80, 90+ the game sadly becomes completely broken
But yeah, Dark Brotherhood will make your character shine... and also don't forget about thieves guild.
Also make sure you improve the light armor they give you... if you have decent smithing, it can make quite a significant difference!! -

I don't use any but I may after reading the reply above mine (Or a couple of replies above mine)
But yeah, I can't wait until the SDK gets released...mods are going to be win -

I went mage first/assassin second.
I use magic for the big things I can't 1 shot with my daggers but I use daggers any/every chance I get. There is something more fulfilling stalking someone and assassinating them up close and personal over just blasting them with a couple of ice spears. -
Yea, but it's a riot when said ticked off critter catches me in a corner or blunder move..SPLAT I'm toast!
A shame that anyone with high sneak does not get the most powerful spell, save or reload, disabled until that quest finished. Agree, way too easy like Oblivion. -
hey guys, do you think I should put perks on pickpocketing?
-
Its almost as useless as the speech tree.
-
I see those as low priority but I have found pick pocketing in general extremely useful and I have just joined the thief guild.I just stole a powerful fire staff that can damage multiple opponents from a sleeping mage.
-

It depends on what type of character you are playing.
If you are playing an assassin/thief character, the perk that lets you reverse pickpocket poisons is good and the ones that let you steal equipped weapons and clothes are a hell of a lot of fun.
I wouldn't recommend any lockpicking perks, though, even if you are playing a thief. You can open master locks quite easily without any perks. -
Most of the lockpicking perks are dumb IMO. Why would I need to pick locks more easily if I have unbreakable lockpicks?
-
Go to Skyrim Nexus and create an account, and then hit the Download With Manager button on the download pages.
Stealing equipped weapons and clothing is indeed fun. Reverse-pickpocketing poisons? Marginally amusing, but ultimately pointless. Unless you want to carry around 1000 bottles of poison and spend your time reverse-pickpocketing 100 of them at a go into someone's pockets just to put a dent in their health. -
How well will a GTX 560m run skyrim I've been waiting for my laptop for over a month and I have the game I'd love to know how high/ultra look.
-
depends on the rest of your system, but i assume it can run it on mid-high settings. GTX 560m is not a bad card, and it'll handle that game...depending on the rest of your system too.
-
pickpocketing levels you up so fast, as does smithing, makes the game so much more challenging if you have very little into combat. But now that I have 100 archery and 100 sneak I'm bored lol. Kills everything so fast on the hardest difficulty. I'm messing around with daggers now to try to get the 15x sneak damage (30x with dark brotherhood gloves). Bah, is there a harder mode mod lol? The deadly dragons mod is pretty fun. I still die really fast to those tough dragons!
-
@ shinakuma9
This mod sounds like it could make it more challenging. I notice 3 different difficulty mods on skyrim nexus. -
You can pretty much do anything as any build. I had no trouble completing the Companions line as a mage, the Dark Brotherhood as a mage and a warrior, and the Thieves Guild as a warrior. The rewards from both the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood will be awesome for you.
-
For anyone wondering where to start with mods, I think this linked list is great. For ease of use I recommend installing the Nexus mod manager and then using the "download with manager" button.
-
The speech tree isn't really that useless unless you're special and have gold lying everywhere. Most of the merchants have a pitiful amount of gold and you need a lot to buy and fully upgrade all of the different residences.
-
I'm level 44 nord now, I have an armor rating of 970, health is above 500, I simply just run through every opponent with a swing or two, giants and mammoths I can bring down in 2 to 3 swings, I have completed thieves guild quests, companion quests, civil war, main mission I also am finding this too easy, I'm just going to work on some sneaking like a little rat to increase my level past 50 so I can get that accomplishment on steam and see what other things I can finish in the mean time, dark brotherhood seems to be my next task, I'm getting a bit bored with the game, c'mon bethesda where is the DLC
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
The better question is when the Creation Kit comes out and also the 1st DLC will be exclusive to the X360 for like two months before it hit shelves to the other platforms. -
One month.
-
Hey guys I just did the Azura Star quest, grabbed the black star, but how do I use it?
Its just sitting in my inventory, and I can't seem to charge it in the conventional way -
You need the spell "soul trap" to fill the soul. You can buy one at the mage in dragonreach.
-
i have also a,,
hp dv6
core i5
4gb ram
amd radeon 6770m
yet at even low settings i hardly get 30 to 40 fps in Dungeons and in open areas with trees and lakes i only get 11 or 12 fps..
i cant understand this,, i use fixed dpu settings and i am using the hp latest drivers for amd gpus.. what should i do? plz help,, thanks -
In case anyone doesn't know this, it's really easy to get the house in Solitude and all the decorations for cheap as free, as long as you have more than 25k gold. Not sure if this needs spoiler tags, as there's no story info, but I'll tag it anyway in case anyone wants to preserve their innocence.
Talk to Falk Firebeard while standing behind him (you should be between Falk and a cupboard) and purchase the house. While he's still talking, hit tab to close the dialogue, use the Slow Time shout, turn around, and put all your gold into the cupboard. Wait for a bit, long enough for him to stop talking and turn back around, and maybe a bit longer to be on the safe side. You will still get the house (or the decoration you purchased) but no gold will be taken from you (since it's in the cupboard).
Are you sure that the HIGH PERFORMANCE GPU is actually switched on? -
Just FYI, Black Soul Gems (and the Black Star) are used if and only if you're trapping a human (or elf, or orc, or... etc.) soul. Will count as a grand soul, regardless of the level of the mob you're killing.
-
If you gave it to Nelacar, it's supposedly capable of trapping both white and black souls. Seems to be a bug. Haven't tested it though.
-
Really? I thought you had to choose, either white or black, not both.
