I'm still debating buying this on pc or console. I prefer gaming on my console and if I go get it on pc, my little sister (who plays Elder Scrolls like it was a Mature rated Sims Game) won't be able to play. So leaning toward console.
But playing with mods is SO TEMPTING. As if I don't get enough out of the game already lol.

There are something like 40,000 mods available for Oblivion.
I'm still enjoying the hell out of that 5 year old game with the mods I posted a few pages back.
Skyrim has so many new features and a much improved engine - I'm sure there will be some truly ambitious Skyrim mods.
Go for the PC version - can't your little sis use the PC, just as easily as console? -
I'm not even sure If my laptop will give me a nice graphics setting in Skyrim.
Mods vs Sister's feelings. Hmmm
I could always buy the console version AND the pc version, but she'd have to wait till I get the extra cash. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Skyrim's Engine might not be as intense as you think and they made still looking good!
-
I love console gaming, but some games that offer tons of mods like this will are just meant for the pc. -

Even better if i added performance mods to keep the game light enough to run on my 512mb of system memory.
But once ATI updated the drivers so it enabled "Hypermemory" or steal system memory for GPU i could not play Oblivion or Battlefield.
Im gonna do a proper Oblivion run, adding better textures, some new races and all of the unofficial bugfixes.
If that doesent conflict with eachother il add some more stuff. -

The 20+ journalists who got to play Skyrim for 60 minutes during QuakeCon are receiving screens featuring the characters they created.
Since they only had 1 hour to play, they didn't spend very much time in the character creator:
1. Eurogamer - Khajiit (LOL he has whiskers on top of his mustache):
2. Game Informer - Andrew Reiner - Khajiit:
Comparison of the various Khajiit we've seen so far:
3. Kotaku - Orc:
interesting, looks totally different from the Orc in the previous Orc screenshot:
4. RipTen.com - Bosmer:
looks actually kind of scary! quite different from the Dunmer:
5. Destructoid - Argonian Female
6. EpicBattleAxe.com (Daniel Kayser) - Nord:
7. G4TV - another Nord :
8. GameTrailers.com - another Bosmer:
9. Jeuxvideo.fr - race not specified, but looks like a Redguard:
10. IGN - Dunmer
11. 1up - Male Argonian
12. Multiplayer.it - Female Redguard
13. Gameplanet.co.nz - Orc
14. X-play Morgan Webb - Female Argonian
15. Gamespot Maxwell McGee - Male Orc "Knuckleduster"
16. Machinima - Female Dunmer

LOL somebody recreated the "Lusty Argonian Maid" from the books in photoshop using the Female Argonian head from the screenshot:

I'd hit it....

Nice! Lol. I was always amazed by the number of different books in TES and the time that must have been spent just on them.
-
AHHHHahahaha...
That one is a classic... -
Has anything been mentioned about the voice acting? I hope it has more than what seemed like 3 voice actors unlike Oblivion.
-
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has 70 voice actors, players free to explore from start
70 voice actors compared to Oblivion's 14. -

Some Skyrim gameplay footage
Come, watch 20 minutes of Skyrim gameplay | Joystiq
Looks great, except that it seems they are using the same leveling system that is in Oblivion, where you improve each skill by using it. I'm sure it's greatly improved compared to Oblivion, if not hopefully someone makes a mod to fix the leveling system, like the OblivionXP mod. -
Syrim and Diablo 3 should take care of me for the next year and a half.
-
For some reason, I'm having a difficult time getting pumped for this game
. I usually love jumping on the hype bandwagons.
Guess I'll fire up Oblivion and see if I can get back into the open world/adventure genre (it's been a few years). Can anybody recommend me a couple good Oblivion mods or link me to a good resource to download mods? Thanks! -

I would hardly call every single one of those "essential"...if I were you, I'd start with just a handful of major mods.
My recommendations:
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOO): really improves the level scaling system. Makes some areas absolutely deadly to a level 1, and also makes sure you won't be fighting common street bandits wearing Daedric armor later in the game. Also adds some other fun stuff.
Open Cities: adds the interior cells of cities to the main outdoor Cyrodiil world space. Instead of loading a new cell on "using" a city gate, it actually opens and you can walk right in. Will hit your framerate slightly in and near cities, but if you already run Oblivion smoothly, it won't give you any trouble. It's pretty cool being chased by a lion or something and running to the nearest city gate and watching the guards and citizens pour out to kill it.
Qarl's Texture Pack 3: greatly improves the quality of a lot of Oblivion's textures without changing them beyond recognition. Well worth the huge download.
Animated Window Lighting System (AWLS): makes exterior windows light up at night, either by turning them all on at a specific time, or making them come on staggered for a more realistic effect. Chapels look beautiful at night with the stained glass all lit up. Also adds smoke coming out of chimneys, especially in northern cities like Bruma. It doesn't change anything major, but it makes more of a difference than you'd think. -

the best way to do it is to research all the mods you find interesting, and if they include one or more of the "overhaul" mods like OOO/MMM/FCOM/Warcry/Francesco's, etc., then post the steps of your installation plan here to get feedback from some Oblivion Mod experts:
Oblivion Mods - Bethesda Softworks Forums
This is the best place to get advice regarding mods.
Up until the end of last year, I had only used two or three very small mods, but I followed these steps to install all the mods listed above, posted my install plan in the Oblivion Mods forum, got a lot of helpful advice and then a few hours later I was playing a brand new, very awesome game.
As far as OOO and other overhaul mods goes, I would advise Jaydizz to consider these carefully, as the installation order is very important. If he later plans to install FCOM (which includes the most popular overhauls), you have to do it in a certain order, so it's not easy to, for example, install OOO now and then later decide to add Martigen's Monster Mod or Francesco's. It's easier to install them all at once in the proper install order using FCOM and Wrye Bash. -

In the third screen (ScreenShot30.jpg), I can tell you I see OBGEv2, Liquid Water, probably ENBseries Shaders, as well as Qarl's Texture Pack 3, Bananasplit's Better Cities and possibly Unique Landscapes.
the other screens seem to be using various settings in OBGE to manipulate the post processing shaders, but they all have Qarl's Texture Pack 3 and likely Unique Landscapes, perhaps Natural Environments as well. -

You quoted the guy who told you heh, but I can see how it might have been a bit unclear.

i dont really get why someone hasent made an "Complete" mod for oblivion... Like with all the good graphical mods, as an exe file to just run, it would make things a heck of a lot easier...
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I would suggest to make a list of all the mods you want to install, read the appropriate [RELz] threads for each mod and then before installing anything, post the intended steps of your complete installation plan in the Bethesda Oblivion Mods forum. You will get excellent advice and feedback in that forum. -
Hey guys, do you think my GT 555m with a FH res and an i5 will be able to play this natively with medium settings at a decent fps rate?
-
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
What kind of frame rate do you get from Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Oblivion?
I have the AMD 5830m, which is ranked significantly lower than the 555m on notebookcheck.net, and I'm hoping I will get playable frame rates at 1080p, with most settings maxed. I'm able to get around 50 fps for New Vegas (with water settings dialed down) and FO3 and I get constant 60fps for Oblivion. For FO3 and FNV, however, I have to reduce some of the water settings. -

those northern lights thingy looks kinda cool

I really think Bethesda nailed snow and mountains for Skyrim, never seen any other game do these landscapes so well. -

Damn those northern Lights look great! This game just seems more and more awesome by the moment!

Are these PC screens? They definitely look better than what I've seen so far. Last screenshot is pretty awesome!

Man, I can't wait for this. Playing the Witcher games got me on an RPG kick and I'm looking forward to playing a battlemage sort of dude.
