You'll love Age of Conan's PVP if you can do one thing: Play it decently...
I use my combos and skills in a smart way and I usually take down players that are a few levels higher than me. WoW is a game anyone can play decently, and it'll be the person with better gear and spells that'll win the fight, instead of the one with better skill. Take the time to read through your abilities, spells, combos, and check your inventory for better gear, and you should be taking down everyone, most of them are noobs.

I just finished tortage and havn't really touched the game since.
Gets extremely dull after tortage, npc's dont speak, all you see is text. Ruins the athmosphere of the game.
Its not Age of Conan to me now, its suddenly an online text based role playing game... -
Warcraft For Life!
Die You Conan Fanboys! -
Well, Conan is certainly not for everyone and Conan fans really do need someone to keep the "kiddie pool" going.
I am glad you are on it!
-
Lol sorry , Ignore that comment , was posted by an imature very strange boy.

Let's be honest... PvP is heavily dependant on the class you play right now.
Some classes can count on being insanely to moderately effective and some classes might as well reroll until they do some balancing.
Conan DOES have skill involved when two evenly matched classes/levels or teams meet up... but much of the PvP on the PvP servers is far from evenly matched (no invulnerability = insta-dead) and is being intentionally set up by players to be completely cheesy.
Get in a real battle with someone and its amazingly fun... find a well-organized team or guild in cheese-mode and you might as well log out no matter how skilled or high level you are.
I love even losing in Conan's PvP... but I wish PvP kills would take a bit longer... especially for the soldiers who are supposed to have traded offense for defense. I'd also like to see more skill involved than some of the "guaranteed wins" that are still in the game. I don't mind advantages and disadvantages and I don't mind an uphill battle or even losing an uphill battle... but I'd like to put up a good fight while I die and be able to tell the newbies from the skilled players even when I win. -

I heard some bad things lately. I do not like the source, but is AoC going to crash like Vanguard?
http://wowriot.gameriot.com/blogs/Epidemic-Obesity/Age-of-Conan-Desperate-for-Subscribers/ -
i dont think it will crash, the game rocks, just needs more people, the instancing sucks and i never see anyone, also, im lvl 38 and i never have grouped yet, but hear i will need to alot after 40
-
Problem is that I heard it would take nearly 500k subscribers for them to profit off of the game. Monthly.
-
might i ask, from your signature it looks like you have oc'ed both your CPU and memory on your laptop? how did you manage to OC the t9300 if that is true?
-
Well the "its not WoW" people are leaving (thank Crom)
There are some people who will leave the minute their class isn't a god anymore as well. (good riddance)
The "my system can't play it" people have been warned for AGES that this is an MMORPG that requires a nice system to play it. The whole "Oblivion" thing was dead on as far as I can tell...
I am playing on a 10-month-old LAPTOP and having a grand old time.
The game is quite good, the community is improving as we speak and I am having a ball with it.
As for business model, I wouldn't declare something dead quite yet.
I imagine some flux is accomodated for...
What was this site's source for the numbers?
As I predicted this is going to be a niche game. -
-
I'm on hanuman and there is no one, except at midnight on saturdays.
But when I tried deathwhisper it was so crowded that you couldn't kill a monster without getting ganked.. I've got a level 12 barbarian on Bane and it seems okay.
I like the game but it's missing the main thing I like about online gaming
Group play.
I've soloed everything easily on a Necro, even red "group" quests. -
I think they are doing a great job at support they keep adding alot of new servers and updates, still a very young game but I'am sure it will do very well, it is only going to get better. Mippoose has no idea what he is talking about and likes to knock the game whenever he can.
-
t9300 and ram was overclocked using setfsb, there is a guide on these forums somewhere, and i made a guide showing to to do it to the gpu
here is the proof for the cpu being overclocked, its the guide i used

Just got the game and loving it! Suprisingly, I am playing it at 1440x900, albeit most settings on low, still looks fantastic. (Runs much better at 1440x900 than 1280x800...)
-
I am just critical, don't be hating! -
I think I'm the only one in here who plays PvE... eh, oh well. I still see quite a few people on my server, and I'm not much into the whole "Everyone attack each other" thing.
-
Low settings are broken lol. I'm playing @1680x1050 with bloom, all sliders at 100%, textures high, grass & shadow off. Is your 8400M GT GDDR3? Try that, textures level don't even affect FPS lol. An OCed GDDR3 8400M GT is still good. I'm pretty sure that it has great OC possibility. On my 8600GT, I can OC the shader from 950 to 1460 (with rivatuner, unlike the shader & core).
At first I was getting like ~15 FPS on everything minimum, I read that sticky o nthe official forums and well, I'm getting 15~60FPS now.
I play PvE too but now I'm on Bane culture PvP -
I am mostly PvE for now as well... I tried the PvP servers but the cheese and the pre-teen mentality got old in a hurry.
I may switch when they implement the newer "anti-cheese" PvP patches.
The PvE groups are a lot of fun... the biggest issue is that there is no real incentive to group at early or mid levels as gear is so weak that its a non-issue. Normally you group for superior gear or XP, and in Conan you get similar XP and loot doesn't matter, so a lot of people don't group. Group mechanics are really nice and it is really too bad that more people don't group. I think a little gear tuning and a better grouping interface would help a lot. -
I'll have to create a character on the NBR server but I'm currently playing on Hyperborea and my character's name there is Dammali for anyone that is currently there. She's a level 5 assassin for the time being.

Here you go!
First seige in conan? Sounds so fun! Sounds like vanguard to me..
One of the big selling points of conan, am I right?
-
One thing not mentioned for performance, I have had better luck with anisotropic filtering (set the complexity to 1) than with bilinear or trilinear as well.
Some other things:
-Set to medium
-Turn OFF shadows
-Turn OFF reflections
-particles to MEDIUM
another annoying thing... every other patch or so it resets these to standard medium settings!
For Mippoose
It seems you are new to this whole MMORPG thing...
-WoW doesn't have massive sieges at all...
-WoW had its share of problems that early in its development too
-Every game that I know of that has them has had issues to iron out with massive PvP.
-Lag and performance are always an issue.
-I wonder if the poster was running on HIGH for a seige? (every L2 player with half a brain went to low-detail for seiges)
-Conan actually runs well and is FUN out of the box... Vanguard didn't run well on even the recommended specs and was not fun even when it did. -
You can also set up AF to 16x, all the nvidia cards since GF 4TI can do it freely. At worst you will loose 2 or 3 FPS.
Also, most important, switch to shader 2.0. 3.0 seems kinda bugged and gives you a really big hit on performances. Shader 3.0 hasn't even really been used outside of the Doom 3 Engine. (For exemple, even Oblivion only uses it for HDR, World in Conflict supports 1.1 1.3, 2.0 & 4.0 (DX10) ). I'm really looking forward to DX10 in AoC -
AOC is much higher rated by actual players!
-
If there is a Mippoose on the AoC forum , it's not me and he is a fraud!
I just linked that to push your buttons.
It's a gamezor, chillax. -
Oh and btw, I do not play WoW. I do not know where you got that from... But you are seriously mistaken.
-
-
LOL -
Huh? I don't know about funcom but MMOs are never finished when they are released. -
Besides, why would the WoW community care or become concerned that AoC is apparently "stealing" players from their fanbase? Again, what you are posting is totally ridiculous. -
The WoW community doesn't care about AoC because 99% of the people whose computers could play WoW couldn't play AoC at reasonable settings.
WoW looks good very easily, which is where it catches a lot of people. -
who cares what game is better or worse, atleast its not as bad as big mother truckers for xbox..see?
anyways age of conan has technical issues that bother me right now, such as freezing, out of memory errors and sometimes blue screening..which no other game gives me, otherwise its amazing. I played WoW for about 1 hour and quit because, believe it or not, i used to game on a laptop with a 32mb s3 unichrome pro gpu...enough said -

I finally got out of Tortage (I didn't want to get done with the game too quickly). One thing I really hate once you're out of Tortage is that there's no more voiceacting, except for a few destiny quests. I wouldn't care as much if Funcom didn't tease us with the amazing voiceacting in Tortage. Since you get choices to have a conversation with a NPC, and conversations can become pretty deep, voiceacting would really help. You lose so much immersion without it. It's great game either way, but voiceovers were a big part of the game to me. In EverQuest II I could care less about the voiceacting because most of it sucked and was really annoying. It was boring in EQII because you're not really pulled into the conversations the way you are in AoC. Anyway, all of the quests really got a lot of attention when it came to story. Almost all of them are very story-rich and much better than any other MMORPG I've ever played. Some quests could end when you complete the task or they could unexpectedly start an interesting questline, that always has a great ending. So far, I'm still loving AoC and I can recommend it to anyone even considering buying it. Go get it. Period. Don't even consider it anymore, just go get it
.
-
-
Well I guess it couldn't be as bad as Vanguard.
If that's a plus. -

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I thought only some of the voices in EQII were done by them. They couldn't have done voices for hundreds of NPCs.
-
I've never gotten the out of memory error. 2GB of Vista @1680x1050 running on high
-
my biggest problem right now is the random freezes, thre game will stop and freeze my computer making me have to do a forced shutdown, no bluescreen or anything, it will just keep it on the game screen, kind of like when you take a screen shot in the game but it never returns to motion. Crysis, ut3, cod4 do not do this so i know its not my comp. anyone else get this?
-
Here is a really good multi page guide showing different cards and settings performance, seems AOC is very responsive to a more powerful CPU. Guide: http://www.gamespot.com/features/61...clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;picks;story;2
-
Wondering what the best driver for AoC would be for my laptop? Got the 169.09 from laptopvideo2go, but wondering if there's a better one for performance? I have an Acer 5920G with an 8600M GT card. Thanks!
-
175.16 or 177.xx
-
I'm receiving the best performance I've ever had with 177.35. Try it out. Also, try opening windows media player and just leaving it minimized in the background - it's a little old fps trick that seems to work well with AoC sometimes.
