25 actually.
-
JCMS, your trick was amazing. I am playing at 1440x900 all high, with no grass. (I can't really tell the difference on screen...) No AA, AFx16, and it looks amazing, keeping a framerate a hair above 30 at all times.
Love the game. As far as bugs, my two biggest-
- Pauses. The game will randomly pause one time per login, once it does it once, it doesn't happen again.
- Un-runnable areas. Sometimes an invisible "wall" will stop me from running certain places, but when I jump, I can go on.
Strange bugs, but minor flaws in a major fantastic game. -
Meh. Still not worth it for a mediocre 'fatality' gimmick.
-
Mediocre "fatality" gimmick? Please, explain further, as I am guessing you have never actually played the game.
-
Is random dismemberment of hands and feet plus the occasional head not mediocre?
-
What does that, if anything, have to do with the game? They don't market from that. No where on the box does it say "Dismember bodies!". This is just a feature in a packed-full game. The game has bugs, flaws, of course... but using this as a reason to dismantle the game from glory is just ridiculous.
-
No, I'm saying that dismemberment is the only reason I would possibly ever even want to look at the box.
And is the combat click-based (think Diablo II) or is it D&D psuedo turn-based (think WoW)? -
mediocre? It's actually pretty cool and can change the outcome in PvP. There are 2-3 animations for each type of weapons. It's as random as a critical hit.
The combat is not like most of MMOs. The normal attacks are like skills, that you put in your skill bars. -
WoW styled, but a more efficient "combat system." You actually have to use basic melee combos, along with your special attacks. Very cool, to me, but that is my opinion.
But hey, like elbows and a**holes, we all have opinions.
-
It looks more like D2 to me than WoW to me.
-
Hello all,
Does anybody know where (or if) i can buy a mammoth?
Or is it still preorder only (so no way to buy it in game)?
Thanks for your reply! -
A lot of people making negative comments that have obviously never even played the game.
AoC has weaknesses, that's for sure...
However, the fatality system is more than a gimmick... your sword actually DOES something instead of just making them stagger and grunt. (or sweat)
As a DT, I have seen 4 fatality moves with just a 1-handed slashing weapon.
These are all notably different and very entertaining. They also have in-game benefits (stamina regen, you hit harder, etc)
The action is so fluid and the fataties flow with the action. It feels more visceral than any MMORPG I have ever played.
Endgame IS still lacking and there are still some serious PvE and PvP balancing to do, but this is nothing new.
(WoW is HOW old and certain classes are still blatantly and massively overpowered in pretty much ANY situation)
I still cannot bear to play any other MMORPG right now and pity anyone who cannot play AoC.
Play what you like, but please base your opinion on SOMETHING except pure supposition. -
I'd say neither mainly because the game implements collision detection, something that is a staple on FPS but not on RPGs. Let's say you use a big honking polearm vs dual wielding 1handed sword and dagger, you'll have greater reach with the polearm than the other 2 weapons making you more likely to cause damage to more targets. Basically you don't even need to have anything targeted to cause damage.
I recall one time I was hitting a target with a crossbow and another mob came in between me and the target and started casting spells at me. I was still hitting my original target but my bolts went thru the middle target causing dmg to both mobs. By the time the 1st mod was dead the second was already at 30%.
That's just one example. Another example could be troop formations might actually mean something in AoC. So given that system there is no auto-attack button - you have 3 (eventually 5) directions for each attack/swing. Spellcasting is tyically less complicated in that it is target based. -
I'm the exact same, i finished Tortage two-three weeks ago and have only really played AoC once or twice since..
Its just not the same anymore, theres just no more athmosphere outside of Tortage, just back to the old dull grinding. -
While being outside of Tortage does indeed lower the amount of voice-acting, I don't think it loses its flavor.
(let's be honest, did you really need the voice acting for the quest to go get three bricks?)
Getting to 35+ means you get to really experience the grouping system and see the actual game.
Group dynamics are very different from any other MMORPG and are a great deal of fun. -
I finally found a great group of guys to play with, and that makes all the difference in the world! It was boring when by yourself, but when in a guild... man, it's a blast!
-
Do you have to pay monthly for AoC and If so how much??
-
$14.95, standard MMO fee.
-
Are you joking the game really became much better once I left Tortage and level very quickly, the main land is very diverse and fun not to mention very beautiful graphics. As for voice acting I could care less I always skipped it anyways and just clicked through it to read the quest, i don't think I sat through 1 voice act. I'am with Kernalpanic your really missing out if you don't play this game, teaming with others is a blast.
-
You can buy a mount horse or mammoth at level 40 on the mainland villages. I've seen lots of horses and mammoths but only one rhino, the preorder mounts have added abilities over non preorder but yes anyone can buy any mount at level 40.
-
Im really stuck between AoC and WoW now,I havent bought WoW yet and dont know if i will after seeing AoC,then again there is the fact that AoC is Kinda new and i dont know if i can trust it.Man this is a hard choice!
-
AoC is like WoW's big brother. It's more difficult, requires more strategy, and can take up more time than WoW. I still love WoW, but I uninstalled it for AoC and never looked back. WoW is also A LOT easier on systems, where as AoC has requirements comparable to Oblivion.
What are your PC specs and maybe we could help you with the decision? -
well im getting my new laptop in July and im going to get wow or AoC,these are the specs.
Dual Core 2.4 Ghz
4 GB RAM
8600m GeForce GTX 256mb
500 GB HDD
17" Screen (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™ -
No such thing as an 8600GTX, but an 8600GT will run it just fine. My OC'd 8400GT runs at 1440x900, all high except shadows, low. AFx16, and an AA. I used to turn grass off, but then realized it made no difference in framerate.
*EDIT* I do also turn water reflections to "Ground Only". -
What would the size of the map be compared to WoW??and what class are you?
-
Honestly, compared to WoW, I haven't really looked, but around the same, I'm sure.
I am a Guardian. -
Not to be MR.Negative or anything but as a caster it is currently easier to play in my book. I got a Tempest of Set to level 54 before I quit after the free month but to level up all I needed to do was mash my main lightning nuke spell because it would hit everything near me and I could AOE grind since all of my spells were built in AOEs. My heals were also super fast and powerful. On boss fights in dungeons I would press 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, click my heal, click my hot, 4 , 4, 4, 4, 4. 4 would be my nuke. It was that simple and most fights were just regular tank and spank, no strategy was required at all. It may be more difficult but I have yet to see anything of that caliber play in 50+ levels. I followed the game for three years and tried to like it but it just felt more of the same old same old from FunCom after their first mmo Anarchy Online.
I would also suggest if you are an end game type of player that you wait on purchasing Age of Conan for a couple of months so that they can add more loot into dungeons, change the stats on items, and fix sieges and buildings in them. I don't know if you guys have seen the first siege video but if you youtube "AoC first siege battle" you will see a video by Sinister guild I think which was the first recorded AoC siege battle which turned out to be a major lag fest and as was stated, most of the guys in that siege had 4 gigs of ram, 8800 graphics cards ( desktop ) and 2.4ghz dual core processor type of computers. On top of this they played the siege on low settings and most people got between 8-10 fps which is almost unplayable in a siege battle.
The same people who recorded the video also pointed out that there were many invisible walls which prevented movement despite there being nothing to block them, and that at one point instead of breaking down a wall on another keep, they just ran into the wall and went right through it. The first thing they said in the video is something like "Well this is just to show that no planning or coordination is needed to do these things", referring to sieges, which means strategy goes right out the window. -
I hate to pester you but most of the info im looking for isnt on their official site,is the PvP system the same as WoW or do you have to go to a place where you fight like in runescape??like what im trying to say is on a PvP server can you just fight in the middle of the street or do you have to go to a certain area??are there different servers like in WoW where you are asssigned to for the whole game??
-
If you play on a FFA server than most places can be fought on except major towns. If you play on a regular server there will be more safe places and less places to fight. There are multiple server types but there is currently no system in the game to want to pvp other than end game sieges which are broken right now. The pvp levels and pvp gear still isn't in the game and for the most part the pvp servers are gank fests.
-
I think the game will have matured in about 3-4 months and will be up 'n' running like WoW(not population wise of course
)but give the game time to shine and Im sure it will shock alot of people!
-
Tempests of Set are currently in need of some balancing...
(to the degree where buffing other classes is not gonna cut it)
Any class that tanks better than a tank class with only their own heal spells, nukes harder than any mage, and heals just as well as the best healer in the game is in need of some reworking....
Other classes are just as much in need of buffing as ToS are in need of nerfing.
Even just the balance between melee and caster needs some reworking.
(melee need to hit 4 sometimes 5 keys to use their best attacks, casters just run around spamming 1 or 2 buttons. It makes it worse the casters don't use stamina as much as melee do and have extra for active blocking, dodging, and running.)
However, this is no different than any other MMO out there especially in their first few months.
Back in the day, EQ1's necros ruled with an iron fist.
(their PET would kill someone 10 levels higher... never mind the necro himself which could kill any class without taking a single hit... and that was if they were nice and killed you personally instead of letting you get killed by an NPC or falling and take XP penalty!)
Every class-based MMORPG I have ever played has had god classes for the first few months. Deal for now while they adjust to player thinking. -
You can PVP anywhere even in towns but if in town expect the town guards to join in to try and keep the peace.
-
oh cool!!
Thanks for your help snowsurfer,im definatley getting this game!!
Hope to see you in game.

Be sure to post your character info and I'll add it to the main post. Deathwhisper is the PVP server that most of use play on, and it's also the "official" NBR PVP server for Age of Conan. Enjoy the game!
How much total game time do you guys have? I have around 27 hours at level 21, I fool around too much
. Type /played in the chat to see your total time played.
-
13 or so hours, Lvl 20.
-
You can outside of duels in Tortage, Conarch, Khemi & Old Tarantia?
-
Well yeah, but like I said the city guards will join in, a guy tried to gank me in a city and I killed him, no guards showed this time, but you can be killed
-
i quit the game for now because of the random freezing/bluescreening it does to my computer, no other game does it so i know it AoC, will hopefully return within the next couple of patches to see if anything was fixed, i love the game and hope it all works out..
lvl 38 demonologist, Set -
Strange... never had that problem. I did hear people with ATi complaining about the same situation. Hope it all works out in the end... terrible you pay $50, plus $15 a month for something that doesn't work too good.
-
So, as for pvp servers in AoC. Is there like, faction vs faction? or just all out free for all?! I assume you can group up and not attack each other right?
Edit: Sorry for the trouble, I found the answer to the above questions already. -
yea it does suck that i paid for the game and it doesnt work, the only solution that helps a little is to disbale three of my four cores on the cpu and one of my video cards...which leaves me with the worst game performance, the devs even admitted on the forums that the game throws the cores out of sync and doesnt like sli, they are working on it, but im surprised they expect us to game on single core single gpu systems when the box says you basically need a dual core to have any decent performance...i went from 50-60 frames to 20-30 after disabling this stuff, no thanks for now funcom lol.
-
Sorry to hear that Halo, and I feel your pain. The only solace I can give is that they said with the July update for DX10, they are also releasing their multi-core/SLi update. This should boost all of us up a little, seeing as the game isn't utilizing Dual Core properly right now.
And man, with a rig like that, you should be playing powerful games! -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
DX10 isn't being added until September.
-
Okay, my fault. Well, that's when the SLi and Multi-core is being added too. (Or refined, if you will)
-
yea i will def try reinstalling the game again within a week or two, since the latest patch fixed client crashes from the notes i have read. This game rocks and i wont give up on it, i want to be able to ride my rhino lmao. It was just released so i expect these issues. If everyone just quit forever because an mmorpg had issues at launch then i think pc gaming would be dead, so i would always give the devs atleast 2 months to get major issues out of the way.
-
Between the new Nvidia drivers, and last Mondays patch, I saw a 6-10FPS boost, giving me around 40FPS outdoors, and 25-30 in major crowded cities!
-
-
Wow Snow, very nice graphics! I wish I could turn my draw distance up that high!
-
Anyone having a problem with the new patch? It's been sitting at "Downloading Patch Information" for 30+ minutes...
