I don't think there'll be a clan, but maybe during the summer I'll set up a guild. If anyone else wants to set one up, too, we can battle over members .

 

I was wondering if people here wanted to post some screenshots from the game? anything goes.. it both to see some from the game, but also to see the visuals levels people can play with on laptops. Which means, no pumping up the settings just to take a screenshot, use the settings you play with.

A quick question: Does the retail pack enable you to play for 30 days? Or do you need to play subscription fees over the 50$ to start the gameplay?

 

You can play the 30 days included without paying a subscription fee.

 

What is the difference in FFA PVP and the others? I've never played PVP only PVE back on EQ about 4 years ago.

 

Blackwand and Blackfish .. I think Stormspire or something.

I am tempted to do culture PVP as I like 'team PVP' .. but went for FFA PVP for now. More action maybe

FFA PVP is free for all
Culture PVP is FFA against any other race or various conditions (not sure yet.. groups of people always FFA? solos only other races?)

All my characters are on Tyranny.

Sparta is my main, he's a conqueror. Then my alts are Macallan, Guiness, and Jameson. But I haven't played them further than the first beach yet.

Here's some screenshots of the game running on my Q6600 8800 GT desktop. I get a consistent 30fps-40fps on 1680x1050 with 4xAA and settings a bit higher than the highest preset. The game looks a lot better in motion and these aren't the best set of screens (the game compresses them a bit), but here they are:

Can someone help a tech challenged gamer. I have an ASUS G1S and looking for recommendations on the best settings for my system. It seems it a mixed bag for me. I played the intro quest line on high at native resolution and everything seemed fine. But once I got to Tortage it was a different story. I jump back and forth from low to high. But I mainly use high with shadows and water disabled and slide the ram sharing option to max. My FPS are really weird sometimes I range from 2 to 30 on both types of settings. But lately I have been stuck around 12 FPS regardless of the video settings. Do I need better drivers? I went to the Asus website and I have the most recent GPU driver. Version 7.15.11.138. I have yet to update my BIOS form the stock version that came with the notebook. Would a BIOS update help performance of the notebook. Here are my specs:

I tuned the settings to a custom low with texture cache maxed, and at 1280x800 I get 35-55 FPS depending on where I am. If I max my res I play at 20-30 and sometimes Ill see a peak for a moment to 40fps but my average is 20-30. All in all I dont notice any visual difference from medium and my setup, yet the game is actually playable with my settings and kinda choppy on medium at full res. I prefer 1280x800 for max playability. AT first the game was rough at 10-20 and I thought I may have made a mistake going dell over the gateway FX, but after the tweaks Im happy as ever that I got the better res for work/multitasking as well as I can play very comfortably and without having to upgrade my CPU, HDD, ect.

I've never played a game that has instancing. How does it work? If u try to take a couple people into a zone with u, will they go to the same zone but seperate from U?

 

If for some reason you end up in a different instance, you can always switch instances yourself, or the party leader can bring you into their instance.

 

look at your mini map on the top right corner and look at the icon on the top left of it, it will allow you to select an instance. You wil use a different instance in a situation where there are too many people and you cant finish something because they are camping, or to find an instance where more people are playing in that area, so its all up to you. You wont see others in a different instance than you so you may have to change it when finding other people

So is it hard to find zones where there are plenty of other people playing so if u wanted to party up or just meet people?

 

no, depends on the server also, but you will find yourself forced to group alot because too many people are doing the same quest, so expect alot of people on already

 

Does anyone know where Keaira comes into the picture? I saw trailers where she was a on a mission, but how does that relate to AoC gameplay if we are playing our own characters? I'm wondering if there is a single player aspect of playing as Keaira, or if it was just for promotional purposes.

I just started playing on Hanuman. I knew it ran like crap but I never expected that. Miniimum 1680x1050 is sluggish on my comp O_O. It's like my video card stays on powersaver

I just re-installed rivatuner (formated last week, and god it was hard to find the hacked-signed version for vista 64). It runs way better now.

Any recommended drivers for a 9500M GS? DDR2, and Vista SP1 32-bit.

 

Does anyoe know how to use the assist function. What do I do after I press (F)? And what is the difference betwen assisting someone versus attacking the enemy that the other player is already attacking?

 

After you press F you should have the target that the player you were targetting has. Its useful in situations where lots is going on and you gotta concentrate on one target - assist to make sure you have the right one

You got that right. I've been to the local games shops (all 4 of them) the last 2 weeks and they're always sold out. And just after I get my new laptop so I can run the game.

I smartened up though and finally put my name down on one of the copies on the next batch that will arrive this week. Soon .... soon. Can't wait

 

It runs really great, can play it on 1920*1200 on my laptop with one 8800m GTX, shader 3.0 all high, no AA.
Just make sure you get new drivers and use rivatuner to "reset" them. That like doubled my framerate from 174.90 drivers.

 

Anyone have any impressions on comparing the game AFTER Tortage to WoW?

I played up to the end of Tortage and have been extremely busy since then....

 

Well, I'm off for three months (technically two months, three weeks), so I plan to get to level 80 soon. I'll post a review soon after I reach 80 and get to experience the end-game content, and I'll directly compare the game to WoW in one of the sections in my review, so stay tuned...

 

Yeah, from what I have heard on leveling speeds, you should easily be able to get at least one char and possibly more to 80 in that time period, depending on your schedule and how much you play per day. Evidently the grind to level cap is far quicker than some other MMOs...

 

Talked to a friend at 78... (HoX)
He said that endgame needs tweaking and additions.
Apparently from 75-80 is a bit of a grind due to lack of areas and quests at that level (and lack of people to do the highest dungeons for now)

Also, the messageboards are teaming with people who have reached 70+ and say the endgame needs some work and balancing.
Not that it isn't fun, but that life at 75+ isn't exactly complete.

There are entire trees of the talent groups which do nothing or nearly nothing for some classes or that are quite simply not worth the points.

Most of the top-tier talents are not anywhere as good as the lower ones at the moment due to either bugs or simply the fact they are underpowered.

Equipment does not scale properly and in some cases most stats do not seem to matter enough to even make a noticeable effect... yes I know they want equipment to matter less than a game like WoW, but it should certainly do something...

I got a real good look at PvP server last week, and quite frankly it needs some serious work... while everyone knew it would be "quake with swords and spells", the whole "invulnerable shield runs out and you insta-die" thing gets old in a hurry. I expect to die lots... but I'd like a shot to fight back once in a while thanks...
A big thumbs up to the guys who had the balls to kill me, but let me actually get up on my feet and away from the spawn point before coming back at me again... that whole exchange was a blast and I had fun even losing! I am considering a PvP server character after they tweak the rules a bit as it IS fun if you don't get a bunch of kiddies camping your every respawn.

Apparently the Devs agree with most of the above as the patches and patch messages seem to indicate they agree and are still tuning.

I still cannot stand to play any other MMO at this point... not even if it was free.

 

Yeah I made it to 10 on a ranger on Deathwhisper and I left after. It's just way to crazy. You can't even quest without getting camped....
